Having following this all through, what i noticed is that the op can't give life a meaning without attachment to a god, these are the traits that led to invention of religion in the first place. You felt a hollow, you felt disturbed. Stick to religion it works for you. The same peace you have now is a psychological comfort, the same thing buddhists, islamists, judaists feel. That afterlife tinge does a lot to the mind, and the mind is really powerful it controls the whole being. The good thing is you found peace.

You believe in confessions you heard from 'professionals' but find it hard to believe in the confessions of those who claim to have witnessed paranormal events?

Good grief!. . . . . .if you ever ruled as a King, you would be the king of double standards.
How do you expect people to believe you experience something that never works in a controlled environment. That these professional confess to using it and we see it. There was even a bbc documentary on the Togo team about it. Everyone sees that, so no one argues about it. There's no double standard here, we talking about involvement of voodoo in African football and there are proofs...to potency of the voodoo and there are no proofs.

In the words of Sherlock Holmes: I do not feed my mind with irrelevant information.

Nonetheless, what is Araba?

Wande Abimbola's juju cannot be any more potent than any of those nameless ifa priests you would find in any ramshackle hut in Idanre or Ilesha or even in Ikorodu here in Lagos.

Materialism nibbles away at the spiritual potency of these sort of individuals. Why do you think monks, hermits and religious people in general abjure materialism to toe the path of asceticism? Because fame and wealth are inversely proportional to spirituality: the more famous and wealthier they are, the less spiritually active they become.

Which is why I think that Wande Ambimbola, though has more media coverage than his occultic colleagues might still not be worth his salt as an Ifa priest.

The ones that wield real power are usually unknown.

Esu is not a dark god - his two-timing personality, puckishness and mischievousness — (like the story wherein he stoked conflict between two tightknit friends over 'the colour of the cap a man was wearing) — are why he's mistaken to be evil and a dark god.

Esu is also misconstrued to be the Devil because he is tasked with the duty of bringing misfortunes on those who go against Olodumare's commands.

Don't forget that Orunmila listens to Olodumare's commands first-hand then passes it down to Esu (Orunmila's right hand), who would then bring the message to the Ifa priests on earth (Aye). Would Olodumare brook this concatenation if Esu was indeed evil?

Esu also has 200 names in Yoruba - one of which is Lagemo Orun which means sacred child of Heaven

How can someone they call a sacred child of Heaven be a poecilonym for evil?

Esu is not a dark God. Dark gods —and by this I mean no-nonsense gods— are the likes of Sango Olukoso, Sopona (god of small pox) etc.

Why aren't you acting with the likes of Iya Rainbow and Yinka Quadri? You should be acting in the Yoruba movie industry since memorising oriki for Esu is a Superman all-in-day's-job activity for you. grin

I want proof of this. A picture, a video. . . . . . .anything to lend credence to this.

So far the whole ballyhoo about voodooism making unwarranted forays into footie has been based only on hearsays. Just like professional boxers who in the past claimed that some of their colleagues used charms and amulets to boost their performance, all of these remain unfounded allegations.

We need proof. . . . . .not just hearsays or rumours making the rounds on the grapevine.
I don't know any proof you might need for the presence of voodoo in African football apart from first hand confessions from professionals, even a white man Stevanovic attested to it when he coached ghana.
Fact is that the paranormal has not been proven.

This is what wikipedia has to say about Prof. Wande Abimbola: Wándé Abímbọ́lá is a Nigerian academician, a professor of Yoruba language and literature, and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ife, and has also served as the Majority Leader of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Does a man with this kind of academic repute come across to you as your regular juju man? grin

Yemi Elebuibon is an ifa priest. Ifa priests are diviners—the bridge between Orun and Aye—. And they usually have no need for Kanako. Such charms are used by worshippers of the darker gods.

And I don't think Yemi Elebuibon has anything to prove to anyone. It's not like they are trying to proselytize anyone.

If you know about Kanako and its purported side effects then why would still ask why it hasn't supplanted modern means of transportation or made transportation in Africa easier?

@bolded___That's like saying why are miracles never wrought when the cameras are rolling. Ridiculous.

How does sending your kid to school to become lawyers and doctors a sign that their deities don't work for them? And how is poverty a sign that their deities don't work for them?

@emboldened__that's idle talk for idle minds. Whoever believes in such needs a MRI scan. I think deities would have better things to do than dabbling in sports. Don't believe every crap you hear on the grapevine. I grew up hearing stories about how India beat Nigeria 100-0 in a football match and how they played without boots, and how they made the ball turn into ghouls and lions in order to scare off our goalie. Any Nigerian kid that had a colourful childhood must have heard this as well, does that make it true? grin

Maybe their deities have Fotografizophobia i.e fear of getting photographed. grin
Lol, do you know what Araba means? That's his rank. Wande Abimbola is a pure babalawo, he even had this interview where he said he gets invited for divination outside the country and his nickname in ife was Baba Ifa. Ask any ifa worshipper who Wande is.

What do you mean darker gods, no god can be darker than esu in ATR and ifa priests gives him his accolade ;
Esu laalu ogirioko
Olominile fejewe
O belekun sunkun keru o belekun grin.
ATR is polytheism, they take into cognizance the 201 deities.

No one is talking about Nigeria India rubbish, voodoo is used in African football till date, I've read about it with first hand account from player and coaches. There was a time Nigeria went to play and pigeon blood was all over dressing room and the coach told them not to enter. Even the famous Nigeria Senegal incident comes to mind. Taribo came out about it recently and Oliseh complained of it. Mali chief priest boasted of it on TV.

Any diety wey dey fear camera never sabi him work.

How do you reconcile the two? I mean, the Atheist is Hundred percent Sure there's no God but Agnostics are not sure and you link them together. Doesn't the fact that atheism being hundred percent sure god doesn't exist invalidate any idea of god having the possibility of existence? If somebody is hundred percent sure that something doesn't exist can the same person be uncertain of the existence of that same thing?
Please check your dictionary, all atheists in fact most do not claim to be 100% sure.

(narrowly) Belief that no deities exist (sometimes including rejection of other religious beliefs).

(broadly) Rejection of belief that any deities exist (with or without a belief that no deities exist).

The second definition suggests agnosticism.

Is it the medicine man that's hunched over a cauldron in some ramshackle shack in a slum village in Ekiti that would have the time or feel the need to come online to prove to you that Kanako is real? If you want proof then leave your comfort zone. . . . go to the most diabolical places you know of in Nigeria. Source for proof yourself.
True, but i want you to also know there are very good babalawos who travel around the world. Prof. Wande Abimbola and Yemi Elebuibon are examples, it takes them nothing to go win the prizes.

Kanako has side effects. If for example a person used it to teleport from Osun to Edo state during daytime, when he/she sleeps that night it is said that the walk he skipped in the afternoon would be done in his sleep (dream) i.e the walk from Osun to Edo, thus causing the person to wake up feeling extremely enervated and completely drained of energy. It could also lead to death. Now you know why the charm is only used in extremis.
I know about kanako. It's always hearsay when it comes to African voodoo. Why is that these things don't work in a controlled environment cameras start rolling.

If all you've said are indeed true then I don't think people would still be worshipping these African deities.

That worship and deference to these deities have endured for centuries only means that these deities are working for them. Don't you think?
Emotions trumps logic when it comes to beliefs. Even babalawos are now sending their kids to school to become lawyers and doctors grin. That you remain in a religion doesn't mean it's working for you, most folks in the villages are poor, what happened to blood money? There are people who keep running from shrines to shrines and later end up in the churches then turn atheists. I read an article about voodoo in African football, if voodoo really works we should have the world cup by now. Even those veterans later came out to say it's all mind conditioning. Come to think of it, voodoo works and the largest black nation is not the world power? The only thing you need to keep someone in a religion is fear.

There are legions of proof. You only chose not to believe in them (which I respect), but know that not believing in something does not make you immune to it.

I've told you to source for proof yourself . . .go to the most diabolical places in Nigeria. . .visit a shrine of one those no-nonsense gods and act impudently in their shrines just to see if they exist or not. . . .you after all have nothing to worry about. We can only get answers when we research and do necessary groundwork. . . .so get to it grin
I have had my own experience and i will seek for more proofs. Someone doing that also. Like i said when cameras start rolling voodoo dont work. Check out the thread :

How can most atheist be agnostic atheists? Are these not two different terms?
Agnosticism is the uncertainty about dieties, and atheism is the disbelieve in gods. Agnostic atheists are those that don't believe in dieties because their existence is yet to be proven.

What do you mean there is no proof of the paranormal? shocked shocked

Have you heard of Kanako?—our own form of teleportation—.

Go act unruly or take a scat in front of one of those Sango shrines, and wait and see what would happen to you or your family within a month.

Do that first before you make such naïve, untrue pontifications.
I've heard of kanako and even made posts about it, but the truth is no one around can prove these things. If kanako were to be so effective we won't need better transportation systems in Africa. African voodoo is misunderstood, it is the result of confirmation bias, hard wiring, selective bias, placebo effect and African philosophy. The mind is a very powerful tool and it plays a lot of roles in these things.
There's no proof of the paranormal yet, and there have been prizes for anyone who can do that up to the tune of a million dollars since the 70's, and no one has passed yet.
One just got debunked recently in the religion section.

I am an atheist. Proudly so.

Two years ago, I was bitten by a spider. Without a lot of the gory details, there was a large hole on my knee and I very nearly lost my right leg. One night, writhing in pain in the A&E ward, EKSUTH and gasping for breath, I was almost certain that the end for me had come. It was a horrible feeling. My family was gathered around in tears. I wanted to cry but I couldn't. I was losing a lot of strength from writhing and struggling that later that night, I resolved to relax and give up for the worst.

I woke the next day fresh as a daisy. Whatever happened overnight, I'd never know but that was the beginning of a marked recovery. I felt fresh, whole, even happy. My leg hurt a lot less than it had since two months before then. Three weeks later, I was discharged with an almost completely healed leg.
Probably a black widow, but how did it get so bad? You didn't seek medical attention early enough?

Walking down memory lane......

Back then in B3up, I remember it was angle 7.

I was woken up by the urge to pee.

It must have been around 12-01 am but I did not bother to check the time.

It was pitch dark. No light. Everyone was asleep

The toilet is at the end of the hall, close to Papa's room.

After hesitating for a while, I looked outside, it was also dark and there was no moonlight and saw someone, dressed in all white, walking outside on the corridor. I watched from my bed as he walked down the corridor and came into the hostel from angle 1.

I ducked. It seemed he slowed down. And he also seemed to be floating.

I suddenly remember Madam Kos Kos. Maybe this is her boyfriend.

He began walking floating down the corridor. I covered my head with my blanket and pretended to be asleep.

"Is he getting close?" "Is it a ghost?"

After a while, I dare to peep and see the ghost thing like man floating out of the hostel.

And I still need to pee.

So, I get up and walk to the toilet, ease myself and go back to bed.

Scary
Your mind playing a hell of tricks.

I tell you. And to think Atheists consider themselves as enlightened. Enlightened my sooty, black arse. Enlightened people that show discernment only once in every 20 years. grin. Religion could arguably be the opium of the masses - especially when common sense has been sacrificed on the altar of religious fanaticism, but atheism is ten times worse than the worst form of religion.

If this message I'm sending to you did not happen by chance, but is of traceable provenance (my mind), then how logical is it for someone to wake up one bright morning, see the intricacies of the earth's geography; the seasons, time; the hills and mountains; the beautiful firmaments; and even the complexities of human brain, and then blindly chalk these all up to happenstances?. . . . .or that evolution drivel.

Even Leonardo Da Vinci asked to be given Viaticum while he was on his death bed. Like the IQs of these atheists can even measure up with a single strand of Da Vinci's nose-hair. grin
Most atheists are agnostics atheists, which to me is an intelligent standpoint. We don't really know why we are here, we could be experiments, there could be God and there could be gods or more intelligent beings. Religion is man made, and there is no proof of the paranormal.

Yeah, I was in my nursery then. My elder brother who was in primary, developed this habit of living me behind while going back home from school. On that faithful day, he instructed me with his bag and then went on ahead of me with his friends. Because of the weight of the bag, I wasn't able to move faster, so I was far behind. Then just like a twink of an eye, everything happened at once. A Mitsubishi that has a failed break was targeting a hospital sign post beside me and I couldn't even see what was happening. The people around there were shouting and till today I haven't realise how I was able to run out of that Mitsubishi car because I was so sure that I couldn't have ran that quick and fast with so much heavy loads on me. I still remain grateful to God. Cause am sure some thing extraordinary helped me that faithful day.

Mine was in secondary school during the inter-house sport preparations. I wandered off during the field events and suddenly heard people calling out to me, i looked up to see a javelin descending with full force to where i am, i froze. I didn't even know the action i took but the javelin went past me by inches. I didn't even know what to say. Everyone there thanking God. I could have been dead or terribly wounded.
