There are so many forms of mental illness of which can be treated or managed, but here in Africa mad man na mad man, they are left in the streets, the lucky once have their relatives take them to psychiatric homes to lock them there.
Kudos to you bro, you've done a lot already, he might not have had a decent conversation in years. Feeling loved alone helps our mental process. If you have the funds you can get him to see a psychiatrist. Thank you!

Religion has its ills, but i think it serves as a psychological utopia for many. There's a way the thought process control our being, a lot of christains put up positive attitude during hard times because they believe Jesus is with them. Some get well after brief illness due to the placebo effect prayer gives them. Although it's cons far outweighs the pros, that still is an advantage. It takes psychological maturity to drop religion and it has nothing to do with age.

True, you live and you learn, then nature and nuture tends to shapen man. I relate with every stage of the so called soul age.
The teaching sounds knowledgeable, but the truth is it's not a fact.
Someone posted that our brain is wiped off its previous life, if so, how then do we know we were once here? As for flash backs and dreams, the brain can't reproduce what it hasn't come in contact with before while it's alive.

Well i think the thread itself is faulty, atheism is not even a thing rather the absence of it. The question what has atheism done for humanity shouldn't even hold. The truth is if we had actually remained religious fanatics the human race won't achieve much that it had today. There have been occurrences such as drought, famine, pandemics that the people actually thought it was from god. I could as well say atheism is fundamental to human development, because for those who were not born into atheism and became atheists, it took that tiny spark of doubt to start their journey.
This same tiny spark of doubt is what made Galilee Galileo doubt that the sun was not moving as believed by the bible, this same tiny spark is what made scientist find out the truth about the earth being geoid rather a circular plate with pillars supporting it as opposed to the bible.
There were times people thought incurable diseases was as a result of sin, it will take some moments of agnosticism to go further, past religious beliefs for a christian to go into the lab and make a cure.
There were times people were scared of the sky because of the tower of babel story, now we have astronauts out there. A religious fanatic who has swallowed the bible hook, line and sinker will actually not want to venture into the sky so as not to make god angry.
So irrespective those scientists stance of being a christian, their moment of agnosticism[which actually leads to atheism] pushed them to create what christians boast of today, which is ironical. I hope you get my drift.

Buddhist are actually atheists i.e they don't believe in God or any diety whatsoever, however they believe in religious doctrines like reincarnation and karma. The religion is human-centred, so they are religious atheists.

That's the problem of African parents, they are supposed to try to understand you, but you on the other hand should be aware of your environment, you are in Africa!
Try to be part of their religious activities when you're with them, and be a very good kid. The truth is the average Nigerian thinks being an atheist means you don't have a moral compass, suprise them by being a better person they'll come around.
