Politics › Re: Atiku Abubakar And Peter Obi Raise The Hands ADC Aspirants (Picture) by PDPGuy: 12:52am On Feb 20 |
casualobserver: What qualifies as consensus is strictly defined by law under the 2026 electoral act. For a candidate to emerge by consensus, it means either he is the only candidate or other candidates must sign a letter withdrawing and endorsing the consensus candidate.
Once 1 candidate refuses to withdraw, you cannot have a consensus candidate and it automatically goes to direct primaries.
BTW this also whittles down the power of governors in determining who becomes senator etc. if you are truly popular amongst the party faithful in your district, no governor can stop you getting the ticket. I think this is progress. I know a governor in the SW who likely won’t be going to the senate. Wow. I bet the governors will do everything in their power to pressure the NASS, or lobby Tinubu to send an amendment bill to NASS for them to add an indirect primary provision in the Act. I really don’t see how the governors would fold their arms and watch one of their most powerful leverages be taken away just like that. |

Politics › Re: Atiku Abubakar And Peter Obi Raise The Hands ADC Aspirants (Picture) by PDPGuy: 5:07pm On Feb 19 |
casualobserver: I don’t think many understand the impact of the new electoral act on Atiku. Indirect primaries have been abolished. It is now 1 man 1 vote. The days of delegates and dollar rain are over. This is a serious injury to Atiku.
Obi’s chances of clinching the ADC ticket just shot up from 0% to 35%. That’s the good news for Obidients.
The bad news is: if Obi gets the ticket, it’s a guaranteed landslide victory for Tinubu. Also, the same 2026 Electoral Act permits parties to choose their candidates via consensus. So, Atiku could as well rain the $$ on the ADC EXCO to declare him as the party’s consensus candidate |

abduleez1: Yeah, the economics really did these beautiful Super Jumbo jets some damage.
At least, Boeing made a killing with the 747s with massive profits over the years. Can't say the same with the A380 that almost bankrupted Airbus, if not for government support.
747s had over 50yrs ruling the skies with thousands ordered. A380 already being obsolete barely 15yrs into its existence. 🥲 Kudos to Emirates for keeping that jet kicking and flying the flag, unlike other airlines that just dumped theirs in the desert or parking lot.
What's even weird, the last A380 rolled out of the factory in 2021, while the last 747 produced was in 2023.
I hope to one day see, feel and get a taste of the A380 experience. Impressive jet man. You're one lucky fella to have experienced both
Reminds me of one other very weird looking plane.... The Airbus Beluga. Yeah, even in Emirates basic economy, their A380s are as comfortable as the business class on any U.S. airline 😂 That’s how lucky I’ve been to have boarded the current queen of the skies. Airbus should be giving ‘egunje’ to Emirates for the next 20 years for almost single-handedly keeping the A380 program afloat till the very end 🤣🤣 |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by PDPGuy: 2:19am On Feb 19 |
abduleez1: Didn't fully appreciate how massive and groundbreaking it was when I read about it in novels while as a kid.
The first wide body jet ever produced. I always thought it was ugly and not that big compared to newer planes. Seeing it first hand today was eye opening. Can't believe this plane be flying for over 50yrs now.
Seeing how massive that plane is I wonder how an A380 would feel looking at it upclose or standing next to it. For real! The B747 would only look like the taller sister. It’s sad that Boeing has ceased production of that iconic jet due to airlines now preferring the fuel economy of the 2-engine jets, as that iconic hump will forever be associated with Boeing. But I’m also glad that I’ve also boarded the A380 four times (all with Emirates airlines) within the last 6 years. In those flights, I was constantly shocked by how quiet the engines revved and how spacious the cabin was; it was almost as though I was being teleported to my destinations 🤣 |

abduleez1: Saw a Boeing 747 flying low this morning at Lagos and damn, that jetliner is actually beautiful. I always seem to think it's ugly prolly because of the ugly paint jobs I see of it in the 80s with that painfully ugly TWA airlines livery.
Seeing it a little upclose today changed my perspective. I was on the street trying to buy something this morning and looked up the approaching airplane and saw 4 jet engines— it piqued my interest as I initially thought it was an Airbus A380 by Emirates. As I couldn't see the Emirates name on it and how weirdly quiet the engines sounded compared to the past where I surely knew an Emirates or British Airways plane likely flew past my house because of the painfully loud and powerful sounds from the engines.... I got curious what I was looking at, not until I finally saw the hump, I visually confirmed it was the B-747.
Couldn't really pick the airline flying the plane as I was more concerned identifying what type it was. I just remember a white and light blue Paint job but the name was kinda blocked from my vision down below.
Lovely jet man. My fellow B747 fan, I sight you! I was always fascinated by its size and relative comfort when I took trips to London (BA) and New York (KLM) |

We have 11 months to the election.
How is it not possible to plan for them in 11 months? Just 9 states.
There's simply no reasonable excuse to do this manually, in my opinion You’ve raised a salient point about adequate preparation. But all I’m saying is that tech ain’t 100% infallible. Even in the best of circumstances, 2-3% of the PUs may still experience technical glitches. So, I wouldn’t totally discard manual transmission of results. In fact, I would propose that INEC should have an administrative rule which would mandate the various party agents to remain at the PUs till e-transmission of results is complete |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by PDPGuy: 8:54pm On Feb 17 |
To be clear, I support real time electronic transmission of election results from the polling units. However, it is highly unreasonable to propose that, in cases where real-time transmission of results isn’t possible, the entire election in the affected PU should be discarded and mandating a fresh election. |

CAF has received official bids from:
🇲🇦 Morocco 🇿🇦 + 🇧🇼 South Africa & Botswana (joint bid) 🇪🇹 Ethiopia
The CAF Executive Committee will meet this weekend to make the final decision on who will host AFCON 2028.
I think CAF would likely award the rights to 🇿🇦 + 🇧🇼 based on their available infrastructure, and climatic conditions. A June/July AFCON cannot be held in Morocco, during that period, due to general excessive heat; unless the Moroccans decide to host the tourney in their coastal areas where temperatures range between 25C-27C. |
