Update on Wenger’s proposed change to the offside rule:

Sources say the 4 British football associations, which make up half the IFAB votes, are vehemently against amending the rule at their upcoming AGM in March. The associations claim that enacting the rule change in a men’s World Cup year would cause “tactical chaos”, with teams scrambling to develop new tactics to adjust to the change.

FIFA, which has 4 votes in the IFAB rule-changing committee, are favorable disposed to implementing Wenger’s idea. Because there are no majority votes in favor Wenger’s proposal, it is highly unlikely that the rule change would take effect this June.

Instead, a more realistic time for the enactment of the amendment is June 2027, just in time for the women’s World Cup.

Though her senior brother was always adamant she was born in 1922 and not 1923 as she claimed, so she may have been 103 already. A great innings for a great woman who spent 60 years of her life adopting and training dozens of children beside her own from her 30s and well into her 90s.
