Morocco record the biggest margin of victory by an African team in the knockout rounds of Olympic football 👏🏾👏🏾

I strongly believe that, come Sunday night, D’Tigress will become the first African women’s team to advance to the Olympics knockout round…

We should have pushed to win this game. What if Australia defeats France in the Aussies last game?
There is a faint chance that it would happen because this France team are, head and shoulders, the best team in the group.

SportsRe: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 5:54pm On Aug 01, 2024
Johannes’s 3-point shooting and France’s overall 3rd quarter offensive onslaught were key to today’s defeat.

But I’m confident that D’Tigress will beat Canada, to finish 2nd in the group and book a ticket to the quarterfinals.
SportsRe: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 5:03pm On Aug 01, 2024
The ladies need to attempt more 3-point shots, especially as the French pressing has receded to the paint.

Some journalists are now suggesting that Ofili’s name was removed from the list of 100m runners at the last minute because AFN officials needed her fresh for (potentially) the two 4x100m relay races, and the 200m. They believe that she has brighter prospects of winning a medal in the 200m than in 100m discipline.

So, in essence, what the AFN and NOC are saying is that Ofili doesn’t have the stamina to run in 10 races (4 rounds, each, in the 100m and 200m, and 2 rounds in the 4x100m discipline)

Either way, she should have been consulted and informed of the change, rather than finding out a day to the start of the athletics event. Smh

...yeah, inexperience...What your view of the game 2mw...Glad we finally have a real point guard in the team...noticed,Okoro did not step on the floor at all,or did she? Also I noticed the Coach played it like march madness, the rotation was just about 7-8 players of you noticed.
I think Wakama may opt for a zone defense within the first few mins of the first quarter, especially after seeing that Australia had their best offensive spell, in the first quarter, against D’Tigress. As the French are offensively better the Aussies, it would be wise not to play loose defense in the first 5-6 minutes.

I also think Tomi would get some minutes; but her effectiveness is up in the air. If the French shackle her like the U.S. did during Olympic qualifiers, then I wouldn’t expect her to drain many threes

Naivety killed Puerto Rico. Why would you commit a foul with less than 2 seconds left, thereby allowing your opponent to convert two free-throws

I never said that.

What I asked you is what perks senators were getting in 3rd republic that would lead Tinubu to accept being thrown into jail for 9 months to try and get back.

Let me help you with timeline.

Senators were sworn in December 92 as part of a transitional government headed by IBB. IBB only allowed Legislative elections to hold so that he could legitimise himself as a civilian president. The senators could only compete under 1 of two parties, both of which were formed by IBB

Senators would draft laws that they could not pass, the bills had to be approved first by a military council, and after that IBB.

IBB finally allowed presidential election on June 12 1993 after having postponed elections like 3 or 4 times. In the same June 93 IBB annulled the elections.

2 months later IBB dissolved the government, announced ING by decree proclamation and unilaterally appointed Shonekan as President and Abacha as CODS.

That's why I keep asking what perks the 3rd republic senate enjoyed that Tinubu would endure prison for 9 months and the threat of execution to enjoy?

Olagunsoye Oyinlola was the first military governornor of Lagos state under Abacha - I remember this from Primary school tables - and a life long political enemy of Tinubu to this day. Why on earth, would Tinubu be angling for a commissioner post under him?

Tinubu had a lot more to lose than gain in that era. He was a wealthy man on the street level and didn't need to risk his life for the uncertainty of that political environment. The 90s weren't like today where success in politics was a sure banker.

We're talking about an era where Abacha jailed the election winner in Abiola, jailed his senior colleague and former head of state OBJ, jailed his own number 2 man in the country Oladipo Diya, and had even his own former oga IBB running in fear.

We're talking if an era where Abacha allowed only 5 political parties ro exist, and he was the presidential candidate for all 5.

What possible perks could Tinubu have enjoyed in 6 months of a quasi democratic regime that would convince him to risk his life and freedom to reclaim?
Speaking of IBB, rumors were making the rounds that Abacha was killed because he planned to arrest IBB before transmuting to a civilian president in October 1998.

I wouldn’t be surprised if IBB actually enlisted the help of foreign intelligence services to kpai Abacha, because as you said, if Abacha had no issue with jailing OBJ, Yar’Adua, Diya, Abiola etc, it would have been foolhardy for IBB to think that he was immune from Abacha’s fangs

We seem to have a short memory. We were put in a group of death!!!! I honestly didn't expect the girls to make it out of the group considering the calibre and pedigree of teams in our group.

I am proud that they pushed Spain and Brazil to the wire and infact with some luck they could have gotten wins or draws against Brazil and Spain. Waldrum should be allowed to continue in my opinion but he should be given the target of winning the next AFCON.
If he should be allowed to continue, then the attacking play of the team has to drastically improve. Players should have the spatial awareness not to run into each other

Yes, after these Olympics, they should move into the top 10 from their present 12th position

Interestingly, D’Tigress are the highest ranked Nigerian senior national team, haven’t lost to ann African team within the last NINE years, and basically have one foot into the quarterfinals.

But they have been generally treated like trash by the sports ministry..

I’m afraid this is the last match that Waldrum will preside over as the head coach.
I’m sure his critics in the sports media would be laughing their backsides off somewhere 🤣😅

Omo you know what I'm looking for. The events that we are in

100m both sexes, 200m both sexes, 4*100m both sexes, 4*400m both sexes, 4*400m mixed

At least there is an outside chance in at least one of these events.

Why is there zero communication to the point that three people will often go for one ball or be beaten by a simple 1-2?
