The National executives of the National Association of Ondo State Students, NAOSS, has hailed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, for his resilience and doggedness in protecting the lives and properties of his people. The student body expresses joy over the display of courage by the Governor on matters that affect the lives of the people. The student leaders during their courtesy visit to the Governor in his office, particularly lauded the governor and his South West counterparts for showing interest in the security of lives and property of their people who gave them their mandates. Speaking through the National President of NAOSS, Comrade Ayoade Kikiowo, the student body applauded Governor Akeredolu for his various infrastructural projects such as construction and renovation of public schools through SUBEB, aggressive road construction and rehabilitation across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state among others. The NAOSS executives described governor Akeredolu as a focus and committed leader of his people, urging him to continue the good works to further make lives comfortable for the people across the state. Responding, governor Akeredolu saluted the student leaders for their good approach to leadership, just as he commended them for appreciating what his administration was doing in all sectors to develop the state and the people. The governor also used the occasion to encourage the young graduates in the state to embrace various windows of opportunities open to them in the areas of agriculture, entrepreneurship and many others, to make them employers of labour rather than looking for white-collar jobs which are no longer available. He said his administration was ready to give them all necessary support and work with them to make them successful. Blessed Michaels k https://citadelng.com.ng/2020/01/17/naoss-backs-akeredolu-and-southwest-governors/

The Vanguard Newspaper has presented a nomination letter to the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the award of the Governor of the Year 2019. The Deputy Editor of the Newspaper, Mr. Adekunle Adekoya who led other members of Staff of the Newspaper to the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure, said the Board of Editors of the establishment sat and examined the performance of the Governor for the award. According to him, the Newspaper found that despite dwindling allocation and scarce resources, the Governor has been able to spread developmental projects across the three senatorial districts of the state. Adekoya said:”We are here to formally present a letter nominating the governor for the Award of Governor of the Year 2019. We didn’t pull this out of the air. It’s an annual program of Vanguard Newspaper where the Board of Editors start examining the performances of key public figures and players in the private sector. “The 2019 was very challenging and the search for people deserving our award was very hard. But despite the challenges we were able to identify key performance. In the south western part of the country we noticed Arakunrin, we know the profile of Ondo State. It’s in the public domain. Despite the dwindling allocation and scarce resources, the Governor has been able to spread projects across the state. “Apart from that, we noticed that this present administration inherited backlog of salaries and pensions. What we are trying to achieve is to showcase the prudent management of scarce resources. This is not an open report, we are just highlighting a few of your achievements. “Let me also say that no one from Ondo State influence us on this , it’s out of our own volition. Infact, if anyone has influenced us , we won’t be here at all. So, we have now come here for formally present the letter and also formally invite the Governor and his wife and the memebers of the executive coucil to the program holding on Friday, 20th March , 2020 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos State.” Responding, Governor Akeredolu thanked the Newspaper for taking time see the work his administration has done and also deem it fit to honour him with an award. Arakunrin Akeredolu said:”When I got to know about this I was surprised. My team at the ministry of Information told me that there are some of your representatives that have gone round to assess our work. I knew from there that this is a serious thing. So many people bring letter for award that I reject them but I know Vanguard is a very serious publication.”I can assure you, if we have tried to influence you , you won’t be here. Whether in the confine here our outside in public, we will continue to praise God . The work that we have done , it’s God who have made this possible. There is no contractor that we have given money to start work. They must have done it up to 30percent before we would look for fund to pay them. Most of our contractors and most of the works we have done, we have done it that way. “When we got here , our IGR was between N700Million to N800million, today is over N1.5billion monthly. You spoke about how we have paid workers’ salaries and cleared backlog of salaries and pensions. It will take me time to owe workers because I believe they are entitled to their wages. And if we have some crisis they will know and they will understand. “The NLC here has done so much and they are understanding. When they come, we show them, give them our books. We are still owing them one month and we will pay very soon. We should be able to do better , but we are limited. The state will get more funds when we have more industries and that’s why we are having many industries at the Ondo-Linyi industrial hub. The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, has declared that the launching of Operation Amotekun did not violate any law, noting that the outfit is not a paramilitary as it was being insinuated in some quarters. The Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami had declared the newly launched South-West security outfit, ‘Operation Amotekun’ illegal. But while reacting to the Malami’s verdict, Akeredolu, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said Malami is yet to back-up his claims with any sections of the Nigerian Constitution. The governor said “when he comes out with relevant portions of the law on the matter, we will consider it and respond adequately as the law stipulates.” Akeredolu said in an interview on Politics Today programme on Channels Television on Wednesday. “One thing is clear, laws are not made in the office of the Attorney General; he can only interpret the laws and give positions of government on matters relating to the law,” “We owe Malami no obligation of consultation over Amotekun; Malami should go to Court if he is not comfortable with Amotekun” The governor added that the governors from the region are yet to meet since the pronouncement from the office of the AGF. Akeredolu, who is also the Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, insisted that the governors will fight the battle in the court of law on the legality of the outfit. https://citadelng.com.ng/2020/01/16/akeredolu-blows-hot-over-amotekun-on-tv-program/

The Ondo State House of Assembly has ratified the appointments of councils Çaretaker Committees for a duration of six months. A letter to that effect was written to the House by the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. A similar letter of request was sent to the House last week but failed to scale through at plenary owing to a breach of legislative procedure observed by Honourable Abayomi Akinruntan representing Ilaje coñstituency 1. He drew the attention of the House to the fact that list of Supervisory Councillors was not attached in line with the legislative procedure of the House. After a robust deliberation on the matter, the House stepped down the tenure elongation request and ordered that the the Çaretaker Committees across the 18 Local Governments be dissolved. Following a new letter of request from the Governor asking for ratification of appointments of new management committees for the 18 Local Governments in line with laid down legislative procedure, the House invited the prospective Chairmen and supervisors to a screening. Presenting the report of the screening Committee to the House, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Honourable Ogundeji Iroju noted that all the nominees exçept two met the requirements of the screening. He therefore pleaded with the House to approve the appointments of the nominees for a period of six months. After a voice vote, the appointment of the Council Management Committees for a period of six months was approved and adopted. Speaking after the ratification, Speaker of the House, Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David noted that members were called back from recess because of the importance attached to the exercise. He observed that local government elections will hold in April adding that the Committees will be dissolved in good time to accommodate the democratically elected Government at the local level. While expressing confidence in the Ondo State Independent Electoral Committee (ODIEC) to deliver a credible election, Oleyelogun urged all parties to cooperate with members to usher in a hitchfree exercise. He added that the lawmakers will continue to support things that would help our democracy to thrive. Addressing journalists after plenary, Chairman, House Committee on Information, Honourable Olugbenga Omole attributed the entire process to the interplay of democracy. He added that the House was aware of the local government election scheduled for April this year but said steps would be taken to accommodate elected Representatives at the grassroots when the time comes. Meanwhile only two Supervisors did not scale through the screening exercise. One is from Ondo East ànd the other is from Akure South.

The Western Nigeria Security Outfit Operation Amotekun (leopard) is to be launched today. The South-West governors agreed to set up the security outfit at a summit organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria last year. The summit, which was attended by the governors, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the South-West, was convened following serial killings and kidnapping in the zone by Fulani herdsmen. Below are some of the things you need to know about the security outfit. • Each state donated 20 vehicles each, making 120 Amotekun vehicles. The vehicles would be dispatched to the respective states. • The headquarters will be at Ibadan, Oyo State. • The Operational base will be in Gbongan, Osun State. • The size of the troops would be determined by what each of the six states had capacity for and based on the level of security threat. • Every state government will fund the troops in its state. It is the capacity of a state that will determine the size of troops it needs. • The idea behind Operation Amotekun is in a bid to localizing policing • Salary of personnel will not be below the minimum wage. • Their operation will be seamless. If something is happening near the Oyo border, the Ogun Amotekun can cross into Oyo and vice versa. https://citadelng.com.ng/2020/01/09/operation-amotekun-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-western-security-scheme/

Commuters and citizens who violate traffic and sanitation laws in Ondo State are now to face the wrath of the law. The stern warning was given by the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Transport, Mr. Tobi Ogunleye. He explained that the inauguration of the committee was the initiative of Governor Akeredolu to ensure the enforcement of sanitation and traffic rules in the state. Ogunleye said that following their inauguration last week Friday, they had swung into action and he observed that they have been seeing positive results from their efforts. He explained that their scheme of operation is all embracing as it includes traffic, sanitation and occupying empty stalls in the market. He disclosed that the committee resume duty at 5 a.m and close by 9 p.m every day and have been using persuasive approach in their scheme of operation in a bid to create more awareness on traffic and sanitation rules. However, he said that recalcitrant offenders that refuse to follow the laid down rules would soon be made to face the full wrath of the law as the time of grace is past. He observed that the illegal shops constructed along the road are the major cause of traffic congestion on the Oba Adesida road. He noted that there are empty stalls at the Oba Afunbiowo market along Arakale road and urged the traders to move to those stores. The Hope can also report that sanity has been restored to the Oba Adesida road as residents carry out their commercial activities with ease. It could be observed that the road which used to be busy from Toyin bookshop through Texaco, Ijomu junction down to the post office area along the popuplar Oba Adesida road, the roadsuch that motorists drive with ease as commercial drivers now have access on their line to stop, pick and to alight passengers at their various destination along the road. The fuel station close to the pedestrian bridge have a relief as many motories are seen driving in and out of the fuel station to buy fuel while some even have the privilege to get a packing space within the station to make repair of faulty part of their cars. It was also discovered that the ijomu junction which was taken over by some petty traders disrupting movement of vehicles heading towards Oke ijebu Axis has been deconjested as no trader was found within the location. Speaking on the present situation, a trader who sells ladies wears in a rented shop at the erekesan market, Mr Andrew Folayo appreciated government for taken the step to sanitize the market road. Traders should co-operate with government to maintain free flow of traffic”, he said. After months of planning, the much touted Operation Amotekun, the South West Joint Security Patrol outfit kicks off tomorrow amidst anxiety. Security experts who spoke with The Hope yesterday expressed optimism that the coming on board of the security outfit may end the nightmare of insecurity across the state. A former Commissioner of Police in River State, Mr Samuel Adetuyi said the launch of the outfit was a welcome development which will herald peace and harmony to the region. Adetuyi, now a legal practitioner said the regional security outfit will reassure the people that government cares for their security. He said with its debut, business growth will be boosted while the residents would now be able to sleep with their eyes closed. Adetuyi lauded South West governors for their initiative and urged them to provide the needed financial and logistic support to make the security outfit a huge success. His words: “Operation Amotekun should be encouraged by everybody. It is an innovation and the grey areas must be continuously looked into for the operation to succeed. It is a move against hoodlums ravaging the Southwest, but the relationship between the stakeholders must be thoroughly looked into and all aspects must be resolved for the programme to succeed. “Police have the constitutional right to protect the states, but police cannot do it all alone, others joining the police, their operations must be looked into intently, for all different approaches to crime, different views and all these differences must be resolved for the outfit to have great success. “I love the enthusiasm of stakeholders in the region to wipe out the scourge, but there must not be an ego issue in this case. Everybody must downplay ego for Amotekun to work”. Meanwhile, Ondo State Commandant of Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Mr Busuyi Ojo Asoga, a.k.a Ijaya said his men are ready for the take off of Amotekun He said it will chase out criminals from Ondo state and south West in general. The OPC leader said all security agencies have agreed to work together to ensure the success of the regional security outfit. Senior Special Assistant, SSA to Ondo State Governor on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo said the essence of the operation is to curtail security challenges in the south west zone. Dojumo hinted that the Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 11 AIG Adeleye Oyebade and all the States Police commissioners, Directors, State Security Service (DSS), commandant of state Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) among other relevant stakeholders across the zone would be present at the Thursday launch. He said necessary security logistics would be provided for the effective take off of the operation adding that operational vehicles, motorcycles and communication gadgets have also been procured. According to the SSA, all the governors of South west states would be in attendance at the event and that the Ondo state governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would chair the occasion. He described security as a panacea to development adding that various relevant stakeholders would be incorporated in the operation of Amotekun saying the job of effective security is for all and sundry. The governors expected at the occasion are Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Adegboyega Oyetola (Osun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu ( Lagos) and Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (Ondo). https://citadelng.com.ng/2020/01/08/amotekun-roars-into-operation-tomorrow/

Donald Ojogo is the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo state. In this interview with select newsmen, he speaks on the people’s expectations and government’s desires for 2020; he equally reacts to some claims of the main opposition party in the state ahead of this year’s governorship election. Excerpts: This is an election year in the state, what should be people’s expectation from the government in this 2020? The year 2020 is the year of so many expectations. It will be year of expectation from electorate and the people of Ondo state. It is also the year of desires on the part of government because there are several things that are ongoing that should be taken to the destination of our minds. There are so many things that government are trying to initiate in form of projects. This year, 2020, is promising on all sides. The first and most important thing we desire from God is long life and peace for all to witness those good things in 2020. Governor Akeredolu will inaugurate some projects to mark his third year in office ahead of the governorship election , will people not see this as political or coincidental? Well, if you say it is coincidental, you are correct and if you say it is strategic on the part of government to complete them as you have said ,yes. We ought to have completed them before now because our desire was not just to keep them in abeyance, No , i don’t think so but if you say so, you might not be totally wrong. What is even wrong if we commission them and make them our campaign points? Fine, because one of the reasons this government came into power is to be able to bring development closer to the people and if there are one or two things that have been initiated by the government in form of projects and they are likely to be commissioned in an election year, so be it. It is a plus to any government to have tangible things to point out when it is the time to campaign . So we thank God that we have a lot of things to point out during our campaign period. But the opposition PDP in the state urged the people not to expect any miracle from your government, because your government has failed the people of Ondo state. How will you react to that ? Well, i never expected anybody in the PDP to say anything different from what you have said he reportedly said. I wouldn’t expect anybody to say anything different. The government that has within three years taken very courageous steps in terms of developmental initiatives that have surpassed the previous years of PDP government that was in place, how would any PDP person commend such? No right thinking PDP man will clap for this government. That is the truth. So if they are not clapping for us, we won’t be angry and we are not even taking it in any negative form. That is the duty of the opposition and if they are not saying that, who will say it? But the truth of the matter is that whoever is saying that is just trying to echo the mindset of the frustrated minority. Whatever they are saying is the voice of the frustrated minority. The PDP spokesperson was emphatic about the level of transparency of your government in the execution of projects. What is your take on that? If he acknowledged the fact that projects are executed, that’s fair enough of him, but the other leg where he intends to know much about, if the projects executed are transparently done, the books are there. Why do we have the ministries of Budget and finance ? Let them go and verify. They can take maximum advantage and leverage on the freedom of information law. Let them come out with facts and figures. Our books are clean and transparent enough. This government is courageously accountable to the people, so if they feel some projects have been done, i salute their courage for saying that. Where they feel there was no transparency or accountability in the course of the execution of those projects ,it is left for them. We are very serious in delivering good governance and we can not add the burden of trying to get facts for the opposition; that can’t be added to the duties of government, they must do that, they should not be lazy. Governor Akeredolu will be so busy attending to more state and political engagements this year. Won’t that affect governance and his health ? I can assure you that no government activities will be affected in any way. Since 2016 that government came into place alongside major political activities in 2015 and 2019, nothing was affected in governance and 2020 will not be different. Payment of salaries will not be affected in 2020. Governor Akeredolu prioritises the welfare of workers in the state and that resolve is unwavering in him and we have all inculcated the belief that the welfare of workers is paramount. Politics can not take the shine of the welfare of workers in the state. I can assure you that. On the health issue, unless someone is still trying to play the role of the Governor’s physician, we have gone past that with gratitude to God. Undesirable and unmerited expectations have been kept at bay. I can tell you that Mr. Governor has been full of vigour since he came back; focused and stronger to continue the good work. The opposition party alleged the governor to have lavished the state funds on her daughter’s wedding in Mauritius by sponsoring members of his cabinet and lawmakers in the state. What is your reaction? I remember in my response to that pedestrian story, I made it clear that the few Cabinet members who were not more 5, attended in their personal capacities. These are not just puerile but pernicious stories powered largely by ignorance on the part of those responsible. Does it not turn logic in the head to think those who attended the wedding did not have the capacity to pay their bills before being appointed as cabinet members? For the records, the Governor never mentioned it at cabinet or at any meeting that his daughter was wedding in Mauritius. He kept it to himself and made it a wholly private affair. In any case, a national daily even wrote an editorial on it but we felt it was not worth any efforts to respond because such will only drag us into an avoidable conflict. I believe the editorial was largely influenced by what was available to the paper, and that was outright misinformation that was given to the public was also given to that credible platform. But in this case, it was a hasty and jaundiced judgement. The truth remains that Akeredolu did not organise his son’s wedding in Canada when he became governor. The couple in question had wedded long before he was even nominated as governorship candidate. It is the tradition in the family for Akeredolu’s children to do their traditional marriage in Nigeria and choose anywhere in the world for the white wedding. It didn’t just start today. It is just laughable that a man who refuses to charter a private jet with state funds even though it is not disallowed, will spend same on the wedding if his daughter abroad. https://citadelng.com.ng/2020/01/03/akeredolus-projects-are-campaign-points-for-his-re-election-ojogo/

...regular payment of salary obligatory, not an achievement Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday said God preserved his life for the purpose of serving the state better. The Governor, who got emotional while giving thanks to God for sparing his life, thanked God for his preservation and blessings in the outgone year 2020. Governor Akeredolu addressed Public service workers in the state on the occasion of the first working day Prayer meeting for the Year 2020, which held at the premises of the Governor's office, Alagbaka, Akure. He declared that his administration is ready to pay the new Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000) minimum wage as soon as the ongoing negotiation between the Organised Labour and the State Government is concluded. The Governor said the state is among the very few states already discussing the implementation of the new minimum wage. Arakunrin Akeredolu said: ”The Organised Labour and Government have been having discussions and negotiations, and we are fine-tuning our conclusions to ensure that we come up with the most acceptable and sustainable salary structure, considering the financial strength of the State. I wish to assure you that payment of the new wage would commence as soon as the on-going discussion and negotiation are concluded.“ The Governor reminded the people that within a space of about three years, his administration has embarked on massive infrastructural development across the three senatorial districts of the State. He said his administration has also made unprecedented improvement in revenue generation and laying a solid foundation for the sustainable economic turn-around of the State. Governor Akeredolu noted that the state government under his leadership has stepped up and widened empowerment schemes for women, men and young entrepreneurs by providing trade support loans. He stressed that above all these, his administration has ensured peace and order in the State. “In doing all of these and more, we have kept faith with the demands of workers' welfare. In spite of our dire financial challenges, we have been able to fulfil our promises of regular payment of workers' salaries and other obligations to the people of the State. “I always hold the firm belief that regular salary payment and promotion of deserving public servants are not achievements, but purely obligatory. You can bear testimony that we have almost concluded the payment of inherited salary arrears.” Akeredolu said. The Governor thanked the state Public service workers and political office holders for their cooperation and understanding in moving the state forward. Speaking earlier in his exaltation, Rt. Reverend Jude Arogundade, Catholic Bishop of Ondo, called on the Governor to rally the people of the state for wealth generation and creation in the state, stressing that the state doesn't have business to rely on federal allocation any longer.
