Politics#3yearsinoffice: Innovative And Supportive Initiatives From The First Lady's Sta by Peezol(op): 5:28pm On Feb 24, 2020
1. Accelerated Birth Registration Plus (ABR+)

Children whose birth are not registered with National Population Commission are automatically without a nationality and therefore at risk of being a victim of child labour and abuse; having limited access to education and other social amenities.

Prior to the Akeredolu led administration, Ondo State birth registration coverage and performance was among the poorest in the south-west. For almost a decade (2011 – 2018), Ondo was never among the top 3 states with the best under-1 birth registration performance in the South-West. In fact in the south-west, Ondo state had the worst under-1 birth registration performance in 2011. This negative narrative started to change when the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, began to invest in birth registration. The investment started in 2018 with the implementation of the Accellerated Birth Registrion (ABR) pilot project in Ifedore LGA. The result from that pilot showed that there was a 280% increase in birth registration in the first month of programme implementation and a 535% in the second month.

The success recorded in the ABR pilot project was then replicated in 2019 as data from UNICEF show that Ondo state became the state with the best under-1 birth registration performance in South-West. It is worthy of note that between 2018 and 2019 there was a 150 percent increase in under-1 birth registration performance in Ondo State. This is the highest percentage increase in South-west and 2nd highest in Nigeria after Bayelsa State. Up to 2018, the birth registration of children under the age of 5 in Ondo State has never been up to 100,000 in a year. In 2019 however, as a result of the State Government continuous investment in birth registration through the ABR Plus project, the birth registration of under 5 children was recorded to be 206,973 in 2019. This is over a 100% increase compared to the 70,120, 72,854, 91,402, 72,047, and 77,198 that were achieved in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively.

PoliticsAketi: Three Years Of Competence, Character And Courage by Peezol(op): 1:00pm On Feb 24, 2020
It's exactly three years today that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, took over the mantle of leadership of Ondo State as the sixth democratically elected Governor of the sunshine state.

Three years on, the road to redemption of the state has been a story of a dogged driver, poised and determined to drive the people to a destination filled with prosperity and unprecedented development.

Today in Ondo State, Governor Akeredolu has shown leadership with integrity and passion, setting a new pace for truth, trust and courage in leadership.

Across the world, there are three "Cs" that measure the place of a good leader- Competence, Character and Courage.

These three Cs are what Governor Akeredolu has employed to change the narrative of the state by giving governance a new meaning, with a display of uncommon love and passion for the people.

With competence, the Governor has set the state on the path of accelerated progress, development and growth. He has developed every sector of the state. His character has aided the progress of the state.

Unarguably, it is only in the state that contractors are mobilized to site with zero naira. Arakunrin Akeredolu has practically taken his integrity to the market to bring goodies to the state. No wonder he is now being referred to as Mr. "Talk and Do".

Courage, of course, has been displayed by Governor Akeredolu in many ways, especially on issues that affect the people.

Governor Akeredolu has shown that he is a fearless Owo man who will damn every consequence to stand with the people.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, an achiever and an accomplished man in his chosen career, Governor Akeredoku has over the years carved a niche for himself in public service with the manner he has delivered on electoral promises and developed the sunshine state.

Today in Ondo State, potable water supply, which was below 4% before Governor Akeredolu assumed office has now been improved. The Akeredolu administration has rehabilitated over two thousand water facilities across the state, while also sinking new ones.

This administration has also recorded uncommon stride with the introduction of Kamomi Aketi urban water kiosk, where people make use of digital card to fetch clean and safe water. It's the first of its kind in Nigeria.

Today in Ondo State, there are over 800 public primary schools that have been renovated and reconstructed. More schools have already been earmarked for reconstruction and renovation in the year 2020.

Within the space of three years, Governor Akeredoku has constructed massive roads, attracted over five industries into the state, situated at the Ondo-Linyi industrial hub in Ore, constructed the first flyover interchange in Ore, provided numerous job opportunities, built new hospital, improved the healthcare sector with the purchase of multi million naira equipment, procured medical equipment worth billions of naira, and lots more.

The people are daily reaping the gains of good governance in Ondo state, and subsequently now refer to the Governor as Mr. talk and do.

As we roll out the drums to celebrate three years of purposeful and people driven leadership, it's important to note that the only option left for us is to move to a greater height with Akeredolu. Let us move to a glorious place.

Happy Anniversary to us all.

Operation Amotekun: Ondo Government promises flexibility in recruitment process
Following the unbundling of the regional connotation of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Operation Amotekun, the Ondo state government has vowed to make its recruitment process flexible.

Speaking on the programme AM today,on Ondo State Radiovision Corporation Television (OSRCTV) the senior Special Assistant to the Governor on security matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, said the exercise will be devoid of politics and avoidance of individuals with questionable characters.

Alhaji Dojumo also revealed that the level of partnership with the police for effectiveness will be top notch as they will be part and parcel of the operation.
On the eligibility of the individuals to be recruited, he said the vanguard will accept anyone who is a resident of Ondo state, speaks Yoruba fluently and knows their way around.

The security adviser stated that community policing which the Nigeria police is anchoring, is one that will benefit all of us from the ward up to the state level.
It would be recalled that the Operation Amotekun bill scaled second reading in the Houses of Assembly in Ondo and Oyo states.

The draft bill was also ratified in Osogbo by the Osun State Executive Council.
The Ogun State House Assembly confirmed receipt of the draft bill from the executive.

PoliticsGovernor Akeredolu A Fixing Puzzle In African Leadership. by Peezol(op): 10:21am On Feb 18, 2020
Africa has been known as a Continent of poor Leadership. Over time the few leaders who posses the quality of integrity, transpiracy, accountability and inclusiveness of governance are highly celebrated for example the late Nelson Madela of South Africa. In most cases such leaders are often described as extraordinary leaders.

According to Dean Bokhari, Extraordinary leaders emanate character and convey passion. Their ethics are uncompromising, and they serve wholeheartedly. They are balanced in both confidence and compassion while maintaining composure at all times.
No one is born with extraordinary leadership qualities. Leadership is not inborn. Leadership is the result of several different qualities.

Extraordinary leaders are extraordinarily competent at their craft. The first example that comes to mind is the Ondo State Governor and chairman Southwest governor's forum Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association NBA.

In Southwest Nigeria, the chairman of the Southwest governor's forum Arakunrin Akeredoulu is the most popular governor in the region. The Ondo State governor is popular for his conscious effort to make the civil servant state an industrial and agro business hub (Ore industrial hub and pig village respectively) in Ondo State.

I know a lot of people who have benefited from employment opportunities in Ondo state a country where job opportunity is a rare commodity for Young school leavers, about 10,000 youths are employed by the Ore industrial hub alone.

Akeredolu as a great leader, has fostered collaboration in the State Government by setting up conditions that make it conducive for his team and the people to work together. One of the keys to an “engaged” government is one that thrives on collaboration. Where people help each other because they want to, not because they have to. And this is wonderful for the government and the people of the State.

The governor has constantly pointed out that, the people's belief in his administration is the encouraging tool to his publicly hailed performance by locals and international bodies.

Judging from Akeredolu's personality, the governor does not impose decision on his people, this attribute of Arakunrin Akeredolu was manifested again during the local government chairman and counselorship primary election in the State.

Ondo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress APC hail and praised the governor for his clear stay off, from the local government chairman and counselorship primary election of the party.

#What an attribute that worth emulating#

PoliticsOndo First Lady Indicates Interest To Partner FUTA On ICT And Solar by Peezol(op): 12:43pm On Feb 13, 2020
In her quest to proffer solution to the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, the wife of Ondo State Governor has indicated interest to partner with the Federal University of Technology, Akure to train female students on Information Communication Technology and Solar power.

She is championing the training under her non-governmental organisation, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation, BAAF.

Mrs. Akeredolu disclosed this today when she visited the school of Engineering and Engineering Technology of FUTA in a courtesy visit to seek collaboration with the management of the institution.

According to her, the training would focus on two areas that were of utmost importance to this digital age, which are ICT and renewable energy, solar in particular.

Explaining the reason behind her decision, she emphasised the need to change the archaic tradition that limits female child to study certain courses in the university, while others were assumed to be for male students alone.

She said: “This is a digital age and no one should be left behind regardless of your gender. In the field of ICT, we have just a sprinkle of women, and to change the narrative we must tell the young ones that they can do it”.

Mrs. Akeredolu bemoans the low percentage of women's contribution in the economic and the industrial landscape of the Nation, due to the old assumption that some educational courses weren't suitable for women.

The BAAF Founder disclosed that she determined to provide solution to energy problem in Nigeria through renewable energy, as a result of her experience with power supply when she ventured into fish farming.

She emphasised the purpose of the partnership in order to sustain the programme, noting that FUTA was capable of making solar energy affordable, in order to reduce usage of fuel which had contributed to the climate change.

She explained further that, although she was concerned about raising the next generation of women that would be the future technology leaders, lend their voices to issues at the decision table, she didn't intend to turn them to male.

She noted that her determination to change the narrative about womenfolk by training the young girls that would contribute to the development of the nation and their immediate environment, birthed the BEMORE Summer Bootcamp for GirlsNaija.

This gesture, she said was a new dimension of empowerment in digression from the usual distribution of equipment which First Ladies in Nigeria were used to.

The Dean of the faculty, Prof. Aremu Akintunde assured of the readiness of the institution to provide necessary and needed resources for the training, including human, saying FUTA had enough facility to achieve the dream of the First Lady.

He stated that the proposed training would go a long way in achieving the goal of the institution, ‘Technology for Self-Reliance', while thanking Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for the TechHub he put place for the institution.

The governor commended the founder of CACIN, which comprises different Non-Governmental Organisations in Ondo State that are concerned about the campaign against cancer, championed by Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN.

Commenting on the lectures which were on the three common types of cancer; breast, postate, and cervical, Akeredolu pleaded with the younger ones not to engage in early sexual activity, saying they have enough years ahead to enjoy the act.

In her remarks, Mrs. Akeredolu, founder of CACIN, commended committee members of the Coalition and the support donors.

According to her, cancers in general was the rationale behind the formation of CACIN, while emphasising the need for organisations to team up against the disease, in order to achieve the desired result.

She noted that BRECAN focuses on breast cancer alone, and couldn't have been able to shoulder the burden of attending to other types of cancers, hence the need to build synergy with other NGOs to get things done, and spread the tentacles.

Mrs. Akeredolu lauded the role of FMC, in the campaign against and treatment of patients by partnering with BRECAN.

She said CACIN was founded with a sincerity of purpose, noting that she understood what it means to experience cancer attack which was why she came up with support fund for the indigent victims.

According to her, she would continue to beg people to donate, regardless of the public misconceptions about the gesture, saying there were thousands of victims under the care of BRECAN.

In his welcome address, the local organising committee chairman of the Coalition Against Cancer in the state, Dr. Aba Katung noted that the campaign against cancer initiated by Mrs. Akeredolu had been yielding positive outcomes, saying that the formation of the coalition would create a paradigm shift in cancer control in the state.

He stated that there was no clear cancer policy, considering the low rate of the implementation of National Cancer Control Plan in Nigeria, adding that the N725million set aside for the treatment of cancer by the Federal government was insufficient.

He affirmed that plan was ongoing for the establishment of Cancer Care Center in the Federal Medical Center, Owo, facilitated by BRECAN.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Friday Okonofua, Vice-Chancellor, Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, said he was impressed with the pace of fight against cancer spearheaded by the wife of the governor.

Okonofua, who was represented by the Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of the University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Lawal Oyeneyi, advised individuals to undergo cancer screening as a preventive measure, noting that there was no ample facility for the treatment in Nigeria.

Dr. Anna Weiss, a female breast cancer surgeon from Harvard, and team member of SHARING HOPE MEDICAL MISSION from the United States of America, implored individuals not to be ashamed or embarassed to be screened.

Chief Imam of Owo, Alhaji Aladesawe commended the efforts of the wife of the governor in the campaign against cancer.

He also lauded the magnanimity of the governor for paying pensioners the new minimum wage.

The Olowo of Owo kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, encouraged all participants to make use of the lectures, while also commending the initiative.

He advised the people of Owo to give maximum support for the current administration, while highlighting some achievements of the government.

Dignitaries at the event included the deputy governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, the Secretary to the State Governor, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde, Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Gbenga Ale, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, secondary school students, market women, among others.

The event features free breast and cervical screening, lectures and presentation of breast self examination dance, SEKEM.
