Politics › Re: Aguiyi-ironsi Killed True Federalism In Nigeria, Says Ishola Williams by PenSniper: 12:12pm On Dec 27, 2014 |
Dede1: The post is arrant nonsense that usually gave rise to an idiotic phrase such as “North are born to Rule” in Nigeria and equally identify the nitwits from the south who helped create such crass utterance.
I wish to lay my hand on the early educational and career formulation of this so-called Maj-Gen. Ishola Williams. Again, it only in Nigeria that such person could become a sergeant in the army.
Nigerian constitution at the era in discuss does not have position of Acting Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister which was the reason the British refused to assist militarily because such request for British military intervention must come from the Prime Minister.
It is still beyond the pale of my imagination why Nigerians, due to tribal pressures, refused to accord respect to historical facts. Instead, they tend to wallow in unfounded conjectures.
It is a known fact that Mallam Zanna Bukar Dipcharima was not a ranking minister in Tafawa Balewa’ government. I can not fathom what informed the opinion among certain Nigerians that one party in a coalition government that could not form a government on its merits at the polls could all of a sudden produce a Prime Minister within a partnership government. Maybe the Kanuri people of Nigeria were born to become Prime Minister of Republic of Nigeria.
NPC and NCNC were the coalition partners in government and jointly agreed to have Tafawa Balewa as the Prime Minister and K O Madiwe the Ranking Minister. Since the Nigerian constitution did not make prevision for the post of Deputy Prime Minister, for all intents and practical purposes, the ranking minister deputizes for the Prime Minister.
In the aftermath of January 15, 1966 coup, both NPC and NCNC could not agree who should become the Prime Minister as the two parties nominated two candidates in the persons of Zipcharima and Mbadiwe. The constitution clearly stated that when coalition partners could not agree on consensus candidate for the post of Prima Minister, the parliament had to be dissolved and a call for fresh election.
It is safe to say that the so-called Maj-Gen. Ishola Williams has wrong grasp of the word-federalism. During the Tafawa Balewa led Nigerian government, the power of the government was still constituted at the center as it is today. What spurred the talk of this ill-informed true federalism in Nigeria is beyond my imagination? I guess folks are not misconstruing democracy for federalism. Very stupid post and nonsensical analysis laced with unwarranted insult. Your arguement is so porous it deserves nothing but the dustbin. The question is, was true federalism in operation in Nigeria before Ironsi took over ? Yes. Did he kill it with decree no. 1 of 1966 ? Yes. Should he have nominated Dipcharima from the, same majority party of the slain Prime Minister ? Yes. Should he have nominated Mbadiwe, (going by your line of thinking) from a junior party from whose tribe no leader was slain in the coup ? No, because doing so would have completed a military plus civilian coup by Igbos. What Gen. Ishola Williams said was perfectly right so i cannot, unde(rstand your grouse with it except to exhibit your myopic nitions. :Truth is, Ironsi simply exhibited traits common to a section of this country which is to arrogate wisdom and perfection only to themselves by which they murdered peace in Nigeria starting from the sectional coup while engaging in self-righteous blame of others for their woes. |

Politics › Re: Aguiyi-ironsi Killed True Federalism In Nigeria, Says Ishola Williams by PenSniper: 11:30am On Dec 27, 2014 |
Beaf: Why? Do you think true federalism is something that can just be magically invoked on the country in a democracy? The truth is, with good intentions, GEJ can achieve true federalism considering the prevailing circumstances. |
Politics › Re: Aguiyi-ironsi Killed True Federalism In Nigeria, Says Ishola Williams by PenSniper: 11:26am On Dec 27, 2014 |
yarodin: But seeing the irony of what Ironsi was killed for is so funny. They kill Ironsi because the thought he was reserving total power for all Igbos and that we will start dipping into the profits of their ground pyramids. But once they got back power and the oil boom was just around the corner, they immediately adopted the same policy they so hated. A wise man who died in the backyard of a foolish man, e get as e bi - Fela Anikulapo Kuti. That is the way the cookie crumbles. |
Politics › Re: Aguiyi-ironsi Killed True Federalism In Nigeria, Says Ishola Williams by PenSniper: 11:22am On Dec 27, 2014 |
Beaf: With due respect, the bolded is an immensely stupeed comment. True federalism requires several fundamental constitutional, societal, fiscal and organisational changes.
You think the President can simply get a copy of the constitution, cross out some lines, alter others, add a few fresh ones, then sign it? Are you living on the Moon?
Sometimes I wonder why some folk pretend to know things they so obviously don't. Dude, you don't know the meaning of true federalism, so please keep shut.
@topic Yes, Ironsi did us bad and those that followed saw his actions as the greatest gift through which they could enslave and brutalise the nation. Correct. Ironsi was the villain who laid the foundation for southern slavery due to inordinate ambition. |
Politics › Re: Aguiyi-ironsi Killed True Federalism In Nigeria, Says Ishola Williams by PenSniper: 11:10am On Dec 27, 2014 |
Abagworo: I understand Aguiyi for ending true Federalism. It was to appease the North who later killed him.The Igbos and South-South were highly advantaged with Nigeria's new found oil wealth in the East and Midwest but Ironsi chose to reduce that advantage so as to prove that Igbos wanted Nigeria to remain one. Absolutely wrong. Ironsi did it for selfish reasons- for absolute control by him and his ilks. When the news of decree no. 1 of 1966 broke, its celebration was limited only to the east, led by Ojukwu. Dont try to justify what requires no justification. |

Amaechi's commissioner for Info and Comms said her govt would not respond to unintelligent talk and silly conjecture. What then do we call this statement that she released to press, a non-response or half-respond ? As for asking for evidence, we all know that our level of corruption in Nigeria has acquired such sophistication that we leave no traces behind. Again the commissioner dodged the issue of non-payment of salaries which confirmed that truely, salaries are yet to be paid. There is no point defending the indefensible. |

torhuke: Buhari is an agent of Balkanization and retrogression. Nigerians shine your eyes. Buhari spared president shagari because he is Hausa Fulani and sent Vice President Alex Ekwueme to prison because he is Igbo. Buhari sent Ambrose Ali and Adekunle Ajasin to prison eventho the tribunal he set up discharged and acquired the duo. In the case of Pa Ajasin, he was discharged and aquited twice but was still sent to jail. Yet he spared many nothern politicians from his draconian clamp down. Buhari denied tai Solarin access to medicine and treatment eventho he knew tai Solarin was an asthmatic patient before he was imprisoned. Buhari said in 2008 that Abacha is not corrupt and didn't steal any money from Nigeria.. Why wouldn't say so when Abacha is no less Hausa Fulani. Buhari toppled a democratically elected govt and is the only head of state who never planed a transition to democracy yet he wants to be president under a democracy. What if abdusalam abubakar chose to be like Buhari and not plan a transition and hand over to civil rule, Buhari would av graciously served under that military govt. Like he served under Abacha's govt of tyrany and wickedness. Do u know that if there was no Buhari, there may not have been an IBB as military head of state and there may not have been an Abacha as military head of state? Imagine that Nigeria has been practicing democracy since 1983 till date, wouldn't we have made considerable progress as a nation? It was general Buhari who destroyed that democracy and imprisoned anybody who dared to request for a transition to democratic rule. Atiku abubakar some weeks before the ApC presidential primaries told apc delegates not to vote for a religious bigot like Buhari.. Nigerians shine your eyes. Buhari is being repackaged in beautiful carton of lies and deceit. Buhari can only take us back, never forward.. Don't say we didn't tell you o. Buhari didn't build any rifinery in Nigeria, he only commissioned it. The rifinery project had been ongoing for over 6 years before Buhari toppled Shagari's govt. Inflation under Buhari in 1984 was 40%. The only credibility Buhari has to his name is the war against indiscipline which of clouts was selective and inequitably applied depending on whether u are from the north or south. If not for Buharis lack of vision and foresight, Lagos would not be experincing the kind of traffic and gridlock it is experiencing today. It was Buhari who refused to approve the Lagos metro line project in 1984/85. Let the house rat tell the bush rat oo that a vote for Buhari is a vote against the labours of our heroes past. Hhhhhmm. Well said, thank you. Let the GMB minions keep fooling themselves. They will soon learn that the Yoruba do not suffer from amnesia. Besides, Tinubu concocted APC idea for self rather than Yoruba enhancement. |

Why are Nigerians not bold enough to undertake that clear and straight forward approach?, cos some groups are afraid, and therefore are willing to destroy or even bring their group to extinction as long as the other group is destroyed too. This was what Obasonjo daughter was trying to point out to her dad on that letter about the unsustainability of the present system.
