Please, for those that have insured their cars in the UK, please how did you get cheap insurance?
I have tried Marshmallow, Admiralty, elephants, RACs but I do get a high fee. I have reduced my annual mileage, uses international Drivers license. Please, if you know what I need to do, please let me know.

Paid £1606 2days back when I did mine and the cover includes driving in EU. It’s a 2020 SUV and I was very suprised to see the price as well. Was getting £1150 or so for black box but I wasn’t open to being monitored for 1yr and I didn’t take it.
If it helps, register on compare the market, then on the same browser you should have AutoTrader open, that way when you’re browsing for cars, you get to see the insurance cost straight away (I’ll gladly explain more on this if it’s confusing with the way I explained).
However, people say adding another driver brings down the cost but I think that’s illegal if the other person won’t be driving at all.
Furthermore, the same insurance would cost £4791 if I was staying in SE London but I don’t live in London anymore but I edited address to see how that influences the price. And my insurance also covers me when I’m driving other people’s car.
Finally, don’t include breakdown cover when you take out the insurance. I got a breakdown cover for under £17 with pinginsure. And my insurance provider is Esure.

When I passed my driving test some months ago, it was £60 for 2 hours i paid to my driving instructor on the test date.....

As it should be 100%. Some instructors are just very greedy.
My test was 11:30
And I had lessons booked from 9:30-12:30 and I booked that long cos I had plans to learn the “show me” questions on that day.

This bit depends on instructors really. My old instructor wanted £180 on test day and I was cool with it cos it was like the norm in my area.
My new instructor wanted just 3hrs of lesson payment which I did use up cos I did like a 1hr 30 mins warm up driving on test day. And I just paid £90 on test day.
Some Instructors are just greedy because there’s no point in overcharging on test day really

First time driving?? Yes.
I honestly can’t remember how many hours.
But I was on and off with the lessons. Maybe about 50hrs.
In my opinion, I believe finding the right instructor does help a lot.
I changed my old instructor because I was learning a whole lot from YouTube than I was with him. He just sits without making comments et all.
We just drive around the same place everytime and I’m quite sure that’s not the test route.
Switched to this new instructor and dude was very verbal, he tracks all his students test route and make me try them out as well.
Students pass every week as well.
Instructors does work but if you’re not learning anything then just change instructors. £30/hr is a lot to waste if anyone is not learning.

Passed my driving test today and was a first timer. Took so long because I was on and off with learning.
Helpful tip for anyone would be just get started with lessons and plan to get your license soon, that’s definitely saving you loads of money.
And it’s really hard to get a date now and an advice on this would just be to login to the site on Monday by 6am as that’s when new dates gets released and afterwards, you can just use this app I use to get an early date. Just select the dates you want and turn on autobooking. This app took me from Jan 2023 to early October 2022.

In a nutshell, we sent all the docs across and contract signed.
Got to know the reason the whole documents requested were quite a lot. So landlord just bought the house last month and we were going to be his first ever tenant so he was quite scared he said.
Turned out he’s a really cool bloke and even dropped off a bottle of champagne for us before leaving.

Good evening house, just need clarity on an issue.
So basically, I’m in the process of changing apartments and I did go for a viewing. They took my details and Missus’ own and ask about our pay and stuff.
Fast forward to earlier this week, they asked for ID’s and proof of address and details of employer & landlord details. My current landlord I think he replied to their email and same as my COO at work.
Afterwards they asked for employment contract and last 3 months payslip and I sent that as well.

Told Missus about it and she’s not a fan of being pushed around that much and she told me these requests are really off. I felt that way too because my current apartment, all I had to do was show proof of residency and that was it.
These new guys have ran credit checks and asked for literally everything. It’s not like I’m applying for a mortgage or something.
Has anyone moved apartments recently and is this like the new normal?
Because I can’t seem to recollect people on student visa being asked for this amount of documentation.

1. Let's assume I get a credit limit of 2,000. What is the maximum that I can spend from the card in a month?
2. What is the repayment like, monthly or can be spread over some months?

(1). £2000 is the maximum every month and there might be charges if you go over the £2000 limit.

(2). If you spend like £300 out of your £2000 limit in June, you can choose to pay off the full £300 and that way you won’t have to pay any interest. You also have the option to spread it over for a long period of time but that would mean having to pay interest.

Also, if you’ve got a Netflix subscription, try and watch the credit card episode of this series. It’s really explanatory.

Used them once before but I’d give it a 4 out of 10. In-flight entertainment was non existent, there’s no WiFi on board.
There was barely any leg room too.
But you get 23 x3kg allowance and RAM is quite cheap too.

Aqua and Capital One was credit karma app telling me I was eligible.

Can you try out Aqua and capital one.
I got a phone contract 4 months after I got to the UK and i got Aqua credit card like 14 months after I’ve been here(1yr+). Got Aqua and capital one about the same time. Capital one gave me £200 limit and Aqua gave me £1200 but they’ve recently increased my limit to £2600.
Up till now, clear score doesn’t even display anything as regards to my credit score but this credit karma app works for me.
But the interest rate on my Aqua was like 53% and capital one is like 49% I’m not sure about the exact percentage because I pay my full balance by direct debit so I’m unbothered about the interest rate.
Credit karma kept on displaying that my credit score is excellent and I never paid attention to it until this Amex card came up in the group.
Also I think the app you use to check your credit score might be of help in some way because credit karma was helpful to me and last week, some weird app called “credability” was telling me my score was 214 out of 700 whereas credit karma was saying I had a 640 out of 700.
Sorry it’s a long read but I was worried many months back as well so hopefully this helps in some way.

I’m sure they did check my details with what was in my credit report and they asked a weird question towards the end which was “How old is my oldest bank account”
I was honest with that question as well.
I felt like every details I did input matches with what was on my credit report because I’m sure there’s now a hard search on my report because of this application.

Didn’t send any document. Just typed in my details like name, address e.t.c.
It got approved and I got an email saying I’ll get my card within 10 days or so.
I’ve been in the UK for only 2yrs.

For a 'complete noob' start off with 15 hours, see how you go with that and then top up with prolly 5 hours or as required.

For a driver with zero hours driving time, you unfortunately need an instructor.....

Spend this money joor, how would you feel, if i told your employer to cut your wage......

in all honesty boss the least I’m seeing is £22/hr
And plss how many hours do you think I should enroll for knowing fully well that I’m a complete noob.

Please house any helpful tip as regards enrolling to driving school cos I’ve never drove a car all my life.
The price I’m seeing is scary too and I just need to learn as quick as I can.
Any recommendation as regards a cheap deal or tip will be appreciated

You can try calling them and they'll ask for only the transaction ID.

I got my BRP two weeks ago and it came with NI number at the back. My wife also got it on hers. I came with a Tier 2 and not too sure if it’s only a Tier 2 thing.

I think it's applicable to only tier 2 and refugees

You should get your NI number typically in like 5 weeks from the point of the interview; max 7 months.

You do not need a NI number before you can open an account. You can try Monzo - all that Monzo needs is a valid visa that you can live in the UK. NatWest is also another option that doesn't require a NI number.
