TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 7:32pm On Jun 06, 2019
congrats fam... I am next in Line. I am drafting my Transcript and will post here tomorrow

Leone26:
Hey guys, so my visa was approved this morning at the Lagos consulate 7a.m. appointment. Na today I see as una talk say dem dey bounce people. Now sef na pink paper dem dey give o.

I was directed to the sweet black American lady at window 7 smiley..Yeah she drilled me wella and cut me off a few times when I was trying to speak at length.

After greeting her. She asked how I heard about the school.
Me: In the 3rd year of my bachelor's degree I used a textbook on mechanical engrg design published by Dr. Asiabanpour, (she cut me off here saying so the text was recommended to you by a Prof, which I replied in the affirmative).

She then asked me to list the other schools I applied to.
Me: The University of Texas @ San Antonio, and Wichita State University, Kansas.

She then asked when I graduated and what I studied.
Me: I completed my BS in 2014. Studied Industrial & Production Eng.

So she asked what I've been doing since 2014, in fact she read out what I filled on my DS form about a 2-month internship I did in 2017 where I worked on an offshore pipeline construction project as a Junior QA/QC Engr.

So she asked what I do presently.
Me: I am currently a Project Engr. with zzzzz International Ltd in PH, and it is a Nigerian EPCI contractor (engrg, procurement, construction, & installation). I provide technical support to more senior mechanical systems engrs in the planning and execution of mechanical construction projects at offshore/swamp facilities operated by Shell Nigeria.

I could tell that she was reading through my DS form throughout. Pls fill your forms very well, clearly and professionally explain what you do at work here.

She then asked why do you want to study this course (MS Mech & Manufacturing Eng. at Texas State University, San Marcos).
Me: I will have better opportunities and be at an advantage to join a major EPCI contractor like Subsea7
as a mechanical systems engr. when I return, because they value young engineers who've gained international exposure from their studies especially in the States. Also this program would enable me build technical competencies across 4 key in-demand disciplines: advanced materials eng., mechanical eng. design, micro electro mechanical systems, and additive manufacturing. (I speak very fast and gesticulate when I talk, and this helped here).

She then asked who's paying for the rest of my fees. My I-20 details are: tuition - 7,890 + living exp - 19,225 = $27,115. I got a graduate instructional assistantship that qualified me for instate tuition and a salary of $13,002.
Me: My Dad would cover the rest. He works as a Senior Project Engr. with xyz in PH and my mum would be supporting him. She manages an elementary school owned by her and my Dad.

Next I heard was congrats your visa has been approved. You can pick up in PH, let me get the new pick up location address for you. Na so I just dey talk thank you Ma. thank you Ma smiley

Biko guys try and prepare your responses very well. I had to record mine on my phone and listen to them everyday on my earpiece and this really helped. Trust me I was tensed due to the rate of denials I witnessed, but I just shut them out even when a well dressed dude before me was denied by the VO. The guy was telling her that he likes teaching and wants to give back to the society, when she asked him what his course would do for him.

Lemme go and book my flight men...fly emirates or Qatar air. I go like see that Dubai airport way my aunty dey use yab PH own...(I have never travelled outside this una country).

Thanks to God for everything, and also to folks like @brown2green and @fairheart who critiqued my transcript. Yes, I did the GRE (303) & TOEFL (105). Pls folks make out time and read previous threads especially towards the May, June, July times. They really helped in my prep.

Thanks for the advise, however is there anything wrong with EiU

juliusdudu:
Fill your correct profile and go for your interview. The VO may not even notice this.

However, you must be well prepared t defend why you are attending that school. In my opinion, that is where your real challenge lies. Cheers
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 10:09am On Jun 05, 2019
Thanks so much

Brown2Green:
Ok. Cool

That error is also reflecting in Canada database.

That's my advice for you.
If the VO asks you why there is such a variance you can explain that you were ignorant of the process so you consulted an agent to assist you and that brought about such error.

But now you're well informed about the process .
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 8:25am On Jun 05, 2019
I'm actually married with two kids.

That's the only error he made.

Brown2Green:
That might even not be all.

He must have filled that you're married cus that's what those agents are good at.
Like I said , confirm the exact details he filled.

Its a tough one here bro.

You have to show to the VO how you got to make that error.

You can explain that it was done by some agent and misrepresented.. This is a very dicey situation.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 8:12am On Jun 05, 2019
He filled banking for me as against food science .

Brown2Green:
It will raise all the color of flags. As far as you took it to the interview , that DS 160 is saved on your profile.

That's why if one changed course or school after denial, you hear them asking why the change.

You have to know exactly what that guy filled for you because any variance is a red flag.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 7:55am On Jun 05, 2019
Dear Nairalanders,

I have been admitted to Eastern Illinois University graduate school to study sustainable energy for fall 2019. I have received my I-20, paid the sevis fee and also paid visa fee. I have picked a date but yet to fill my DS-160.

Here is the challenge, in 2017 December, I attempted to travel with my twin bro to USA to attend a cousin's wedding. I approached a family friend who runs a visa consultant agency to 'package' us. He collected 200k to assist us pay visa fee, pick dates, fill the form, but he mixed up my educational qualification with that of my brother (I am a food science graduate and my brother is a banking and finance graduate). I didn't even noticed it until it was a day to the interview. Though I was denied, but now it's about time to fill another DS-160 form for my F1 visa though *filing it myself* once beaten, twice shy . Hope it won't raise a red flag and what can I do? Because my WES evaluated transcripts state Bsc Food Science and Technology. Pls advice

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 10:42am On May 16, 2019
use UEMS and select UPS, it cost me about 95 dollars to get mine in just 3 days

brainy02:
My I-20 Form is ready for pick but the transit cost to Nigeria is way too much the least via DHL is 120USD to be delivered in 5 working days.

Pls anyone know of an alternative to how to cut this cost Pls.... Maybe have it sent to someone there before finally coasting home

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 9:02am On Mar 27, 2019
go to WWW.WES.ORG

open an account with them, you will be issued a reference Number, go for WES ICAP evaluation, it's expensive though, costs about $220. After the payment, allow your school to SEND both ND and HND transcript to WES for them to be evaluated. After a while, you will receive your evaluation report, it will be given in the USA bsc standard, then you can use the US equivalency to apply to schools.

Best of Lucks

Adtek:
How will I do that?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 1:30pm On Mar 26, 2019
DON'T LET THESE UNINFORMED PEOPLE'S OPINION AFFECT YOU. SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPT TO WES TO BE EVALUATED. AN EVALUATED TRANSCRIPT OPENS A LOT OF DOORS.

I got same error message, I put a call through to the Admission office and I was advised to send in my GRE scores and Transcript. After a while, they confirmed that they have received those documents and my status changed to : awaiting dept decison

KingStefan:
I applied to Georgia Southern University Fall2019 MPA program.
Though I'm facing some challenges in my application status, it all seems complete and submitted but they still send me messages to check my status for incomplete documents.
I was waived for application fee though.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Pepperoni001: 11:32am On Mar 25, 2019
that's one of the 3 schools I applied too and the same course: Sustainable energy.... But I am yet to be offered admission, my status has been: "pending dept admission"

Pefuele:
I was delayed at the Lagos Consulate last year and I hope to go back soon for interview.Intially, I went with EIU and my course was sustainable energy now I hope to go with TAMUK which is Electrical Engineering...
I envisage this question:what has changed about your application.
Here is the response I came up with:
My current application is across various domains as it combines not just science and technology management but emhasized engineering which address more of my professional problems.
This application is more broad, opens me to different challenges as compared to the a more specific and narrower previous..

Please help critique

My Travel Transcript

I left Nigeria (with Qatar airways, 12 pm flight) on Sunday, August 12, 2018 and touched down in O'Hare airport, Chicago on Monday, August 13, 2018 around 2:30pm. The flight from Lagos to Doha, Qatar lasted for 10 hours while the layover was about 8 hours and from Doha to Chicago was 14 hours. The queue at the airport was quite long but the officers were very efficient so I didn't spend so much time on the queue. When it got to my turn to be interviewed, I handed my I-20, declaration form and passport to the CBP officer. My interview with a CBP officer went thus:
CBP: Where are you going to?
Me: I'm going to Eastern Illinois University for my master's program
CBP: How long is the program?
Me: Two years
CBP: (While handing over my documents) Welcome and have a nice stay in the U.S.
Me: Thank you.

The officer stamped my passport and wrote "IN" on my declaration form with a red marker.
After, I claimed my luggage and was directed to the secondary section. I declared my foodstuffs so the officer asked me if they were all dried and processed and I answered in the affirmative. I placed my luggage in a scanner and after the scanning I collected the luggage and left the airport. Some school officials picked us at the airport and dropped us in one of the school's residential apartments where we stayed till Friday, August 17, 2018.

My first week here was hectic with orientation, job interview and trying to adapt to a new country. Students and staff here have been very helpful. I've gotten an apartment and an on-campus job at the library and everything is moving on fine.
Once again, I thank all members of this thread for contributing to this invaluable resource. In a special way, I thank BigFrancis for assisting in paying my fees. Thank you all.

Below is my final transcript (Abuja)

Vo: Good morning
Me: Good morning
Vo: can I have your i20 and passport
Me: passed it
Vo: I can see that you're going to UL
Me: yes please
Vo: when did you graduate first degree
Me: year 2011
Vo:what have you been doing since then
Me: I went for the compulsory NYSC from nov 2011 to oct 2012, I Stated working with abc bank from apr 2013 to Jan 2018, then I joined bdc bank in feb 2018 till now
Vo: so what will you do after this degree
Me: I intend to come back to nigeria to work for 2 years after which I will start my own ict consulting company, did you know that online transactions in nigeria actually hit 86 trillion naira last year? Yes, it did and Q1 2018 is already at 36 trillion naira. This is a good sphere to play in and there are more challenges that needs solutions ( I mumbled jumbled a bit here)
Vo: how much do you earn?
Me: about 314k monthly
Vo: how did you choose this school
Me: it was recommended by a colleague of mine who also did his masters there, I researched the school for areas of interest and I matched with Dr. MT, I mailed him and he requested for my cv and test scores, he was impressed and recommended me to the grad cord Dr. AM who then advised me to apply. I did and I was granted the admission
Vo: you said you wrote GRE
Me:yes, I did
Vo: what's your score
Me:314
Vo: what of TOEFL
Me:99
Vo: how do you intend to fund this degree
Me: I was granted a fellowship of 14k+ and I have been saving for 5 years and I have 11k making a total of 25k both of them covers for my tuition while my uncle who is also my mentor will cover for the monthly expenses
Vo: do you have documents to that effect
Me: (passed fellowship offer letter and both banks statements mine and uncle, fixed deposit and treasury bill certificate of my uncle) I explained further while she was checking it: my uncle actually placed the money in fixed deposit until I'm ready so as to generate more interest, my investment is on call deposit which I liquidated before coming here(the money came in 2 days ago and I know she will definitely notice, it was a genuine call deposit investment)

After perusing the documents and typing

Vo: I will hold on to this document for confirmation, if found false you and your uncle would be banned for 10 years, do you still want to submit it
Me: yes definitely
( she returned my i20 and folded banks details into my passport and placed it aside)
(Me don dey korinsinu--oluwa ese, na so devil rear head)
Vo: wait, you've been denied in Lagos before?
Me: yes, I was denied last year
Vo: what was the reason
Me:I wasn't given a reason but I was actually advised to reapply.(I had already started stammering. I wanted to say because I didn't give enough reason for ties but smth just gum my mouth)
Vo: typed very fast and gave me white copy and said the remaining pick up stuffs
Me: thank you so much.

Well, above is actually my sixth attempt, 5 in Lagos denied 1 in Abuja approved.

Don't give up, give it one more push. God is never late, if you know you know

My sneakers had no lace, forgot it in Lagos

Wore only a round neck and chinos

My hair and mustache was unkempt, didn't bother to cut it

Forgot my shakomended glasses in Lagos

My point: by all standard it was just God
