Since you have every documents available, just wait till its 60 days to your first day of class so you can then request for Emergency date. Be rest assured that dates will still open up. Wishing you the best. fdecisive: My ogas and madams good afternoon. Please I need guidance.
Finally got I-20 this morning. Course starts early August. As at this morning, Lagos had no dates. I saw September 23rd in Abuja. Was making yanga, hoping better dates will open up... Or perhaps Lagos will open earlier dates since @EducationUSALagos facebook webinar yesterday, the consular lady suggested so.
Logged in this afternoon, to see earliest date in Abuja now October, Lagos still no date yet. Became concerned. "I better book a date first and see how things go oh". Swiftly books Abuja, and told self: a bird in hand is worth millions in the bush.
After booking, to test things, I clicked on Reschedule Appointment tab, and saw this message: "If you cancel this appointment, then you will have exceeded the limit of appointments, and will not be able to schedule another appointment until another MRV fee has been paid."
Questions:
- I thought I got a couple of times to change dates?
- Will I still be able to switch back to Lagos and book a new date if a better dates opens up? Or am I stuck with Abuja until it's time to book emergency?
Please guide me. First time applicant. |

Good morning. I’m praying that you will get your desired scores. Please, I need materials that you studied. I will be glad if you can assist me with it. drlaykay: I wrote my IELTS today and I really need my listening to be up to 8. I made a few mistakes that could slide me to having 34 which is 7.5.
I'm extremely confident of other parts. In fact, I'm not sure I will get any answers wrong in reading. But all this result with a 7.5 in listening will drop my CRS to about 430 from a possible 480...
I'm so tensed. I can't even sleep well. I don't want to write this exam a second |

Please I need a bit of quick advice. My current passport will expire June next year, and I need to schedule an interview at the embassy asap for Fall 2021 resumption. Will my current passport validity suffice or should I go ahead and apply for renewal before I start my visa application process.

My visa was delayed last month in Lagos.
However, I updated my profile, choose previously denied and choose Abuja as my next venue.
I requested for an emergency date and it was denied.
Can I still use the same MRV to seek another emergency date and what are the implications.

Don Matthew donmattalayo: I've been a silent reader here for 1+ years.
Embassy Location: Lagos
Date: 30 October, 2020
School name: Texas Tech University
Program: PhD (Chemistry)
Undergraduate Degree: Chemistry (1')
Funding/Financial Aid: Full ride
Status: Approved
GRE Acers, thank you so much for your prayers. We made it.
Now to Biometric:
A young lady saw that I came all the way from Jalingo to have my interview. She asked why I chose Lagos instead of Abuja, I told her that dates were unavailable in Abuja when Lagos consulate opened. She also asked if I have visited Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State before, which I answered NO but I'll be visiting soon. She said she's been there and she's wishing me good luck with my interview. This conversation helped me relax so much.
My conversation with VO.
The VO has just opened (two other guys have started interviewing others, one was asking so many questions in which I was supposed to meet with him but within me, in my spirit, I was rejecting him.) God answered my prayers, bringing another VO for me.
VO: Next applicant please Me: Good morning sir VO: Good morning
VO: Pass me your passport as it is packed for you. Me: Ok sir
(VO just checked the financial part in femtosecond)
VO: So, where are you going in the US? Me: I'm going to Texas Tech University to pursue PhD degree in Chemistry with concentration in Organometallic Chemistry.
VO: Where do you work? Me: I'm an academic staff at Taraba State University
VO: Are you married? Me: No
VO: I intend approving your visa.... Go to counter 22 to pay your reciprocity fee. Me: Thank you.
Everything, not sure it's up to 1 min (30 secs thereabout). Meanwhile, the other two VOs were still questioning their own applicants .
Alhamdulillah .
Thank you Pepe and Bayonle for everything you do for me. |

I get what you are trying to say here. Always let your left hand side of your I-20 equals the right hand side, hence you won't have to be doing unnecessary explanation. If your Tuition & Fees is 20k and living expense is 7k, your estimated cost of attendance is 27K. Now you have a funding of 25K, you will be left with a deficit of 2k. Now, assume you sent a SOA with a closing balance of 10k as family or personal funds. Please follow up with your DSO to quote the personal or family funds to be 2k instead of that 10k. Doing this both sides will be equal in amount and the VO will be able to interpret clearly. sonofakin: Let's assume total cost of studies is $40,000 and one gets an assistantship of $30,000. It means the deficit is 10k right? So when you request for your I-20 and submit your assistantship letter, you need to also submit a bank statement for the deficit. So on that right side, your assistantship amount shows as 30k, then maybe self or family support should only show that 10k deficit. It should not matter even if you submitted a bank statement of 200k. My point is that you I-20 isn't showing your actual deficit, you will be relying on the VO to do the maths or you should be prepared to explain. I don't know if you understand my point |

Congrats my gee Evans211: Visa Approved!!
Profile- Program: MA Political Science GPA- 3.28/4 Deficits- $6,677 GRE- 318 School- Texas Tech University (Spring)
I had a very concise interview. Before I proceed into proper details, permit to use this medium to thank Samuel (Sammy like I fondly call), Fortune, Fairheart, Mathew, Francis, Acers family, and a host of others I am yet to mention; these amazing lads gave me the mock interview and confidence (some deadly guts) to face my fears.
Sunday (4th Oct, 2020) is just like every other day where I casually mailed Lagos consulate with a view of booking an expedited appointment with no much expectations. I barely recall sending a mail that Sunday! On Monday morning, I got a mail from lagos consulate slating an appointment by Friday! FRIDAY? that must be a huge joke! How could I possibly pay sevis fee, fill my DS-160 form, get an updated I-20 to spring, going through the hassles of documents printing in just 4 days?! Hell no... I'm skipping this appointment. I was so damn sure about this on Monday but by Tuesday morning, I reflect on my thoughts and realized how golden this opportunity is. I presented my case before these great guys, Samuel and fortune who offered to help with documents printing errands and transcript drafting respectively, while I take care of other tasks.
Wasn't really thinking of the mock interview preparations until Thursday afternoon after arriving at my lodge close to the Lagos consulate at VI. It was a tedious experience filled with funny memories.
Thanks to the virtual mock interview organized by Mathew, Sam, Francis et al where I was given a friendly but yet, rigorous drilling, critiquing my transcripts which helped in boosting my confidence. Studied through the night with an open but yet prayerful mind...
By morning, I headed straight to the consulate; tho a walkable distance but I booked a cab. Upon my arrival, I focused my gaze on the scanty applicants (about 35 in total) contrary to the usual expectations. I shaped my mind and blended with the cue while I await my faith. Waited for about half an hour before the rain started (that's a story for another day). The CGFI official instructed us on the document arrangements while we align on a single line heading straight to the interview unit..............
The VO is in window 9, probably in his mid 30s. A very wonderful and yet witty conversationalist. He denied about 4 applicants ahead of me and issued 3 approvals. I won’t lie, my morale was dampened but I kept a straight face. A lady just ahead of me was literally begging the VO to reconsider his denial and almost not leaving the spot! (In my head I was like, hey pretty! Leave that spot before you annoy the VO.. don’t implicate me pls........)
Here goes my interview with the VO
VO: Good morning, pass me your passport and I-20.
Me: I obliged.
VO: What are you going to do in the US ?
me: I am going for a Master’s degree in Political science with Concentration in International Relations and Public Policy, in Texas Tech University, Lubbock.
VO: not a single word from him as he kept typing......(I wasn’t sure if he heard me but I kept my cool).. So who is sponsoring your studies?
Me- Well, I was offered a Graduate teaching assistantships with full tuition waiver and some monthly stipends to help offset my living expenses and my uncle will help with the deficits.
VO: ...keeps typing for a couple of seconds, this time around a bit longer than usual. So what does your uncle do?
Me- He works as a Real estate Developer and owns a wholesale supermarket.
VO: where does he work at?
Me: Lagos
VO: okay. ...keeps typing.... So where did you graduate from ?
Me- The University of Ibadan in May, 2018
VO: Have you ever travelled out of the country ?
Me- No sir, I had no reason to.
VO- Are you married ?
Me- No sir.
VO: What is your program start date?
Me: 04 January, 2021
VO: Oh! You said you graduated from University of Ilorin?
Me: No sir, I graduated from the University of Ibadan.
VO: I see... Okay. I will be approving your Visa. have your reciprocity fee paid at window 23 and make sure you make travel plans not more than 30 days before your program start date.. you will need your I-20 at the POE ...........blah blah blah... I smiled as he utter the golden words!!!
From what I observed, the interview lasted less than 2 minutes! No other documents requested. Financial statement was handy but he never asked. |

Your friend need not to bother herself with schools right now. All she need to do is spend more time on studying and how to ace her GRE. Her GPA is quite low and all she can do to make up for the deficient GPA is to score 300 and above in GRE, get good letter of Recommendations too, write a well articulated statement of purpose. Remember, for every profile there's always a school for you in the UNITED STATE OF AMERICA. Yes you can reach out to me Istanbul8819: I spoke with David Melton and as a matter of fact he was the one who told me that a new policy is in place that makes it impossible to offer a GA until I finish a semester. I have also been admitted to study in EIU for FALL 2020. I was also funded with GA and a deficit of about 4,500 Did you speak to David Melton personally? Please if you haven’t, you need to message or call in ASAP and explain to him how you needed to be funded to be able to attend EIU. Istanbul8819: Good day good people,
Please I require help with some decisions. I applied to two schools for master's degree in Technology with a Nigerian CGPA of 4.09/5.0 . Eastern Illinois University and East Tennessee State University. I was given admission by the two school.
For Eastern Illinois University, I wasn't given any funding and the Graduate Coordinator said GA and TA are only given after completing a semester. The total cost for a year is $25,000 plus. $13k plus for Tuition, $2k plus for fees, and $10k plus for living expenses.
For East Tennessee State University (ETSU), I was given a merit scholarship worth $11,500 per year. The total cost is $46k plus. So deducting the $10,500 scholarship I still have a deficit of $35k plus.
ETSU is quite expensive and I was wondering how those who attended the school did it considering a lot of students here have attended the school and a lot recommended it due to their generous funding. I would want to know how they do it or what I am not doing right.
I prefer the Eastern Illinois University though but I don't know how to go about getting funding there to reduce the financial burden considering the difficult time we have now.
Please kindly help me with information and help.

Like you’ve rightly said, your school will send both ND & HND transcript to WES. WES costs about $220 for WES ICAP which is course by course evaluation and that’s the one you should do. If you have any question you can ask here so gurus can answer it. Princekenuk: Someone who has OND & HND will request her polytechnic send both to WES? Since it is the school that usually delays, if she has an insider that can speed up the process in her school, that would be fine? Then how much does WES cost presently and the process?
