Ma'am pls, stop saying what you know nothing about.

LagosismyHome:
It's bank who put that requirement not CBN so it varies from bank to bank ... I have checked CBN guidelines in the past . I am too lazy to go find it and post it here

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 3:37pm On Aug 01, 2019
It is a CBN rule maám, No bank will sell PTA for someone traveling with a one way ticket or someone who has a return ticket with a journey less than 4 hours.

LagosismyHome:
no go enter one chance ooo........ what exactly do you need all that drug for , also hope it not for you . Think about your liver

Only take what absolutely necessary . if these are prescribed drugs then ok. if these are just caution or preventative drugs then maybe you dont need to have as much

regarding one way then check with other banks. Some banks agree for PTA with one way ticket . I not not fully sure of other ways to get currency other than finding a trustworthy black market exchanger
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 9:18am On Jul 30, 2019
You will only get PTA from any bank in Nigeria only if you are buying a return ticket. and the MAX you can get is 4k dollars.

JTDeus:
Same here. Abuja interview July 11th, case last updated July 25th, status changed to issued July 29th.. God is ever-kind. Are there others still on AP?

While we await delivery, please, I need more info on PTA. What's the max one can get? Which bank is more favourable?

Same dude interviewed me.

HE took him almost 3 mins before he asked me my first question, which was when did you finish high school?

spaccleinc:
Hello guys.

Visa denied last week Friday at Lagos Consulate. Please, kindly help review the interview transcript and advise if it's still worth it to apply with this same admission offer / any other advice or tip that comes to mind. Thank you.

VO: Oh... That's just one year

Me: Yes... After that, I secured a job as a project engineer at **** Engineering Limited, and I've been there since then.

VO: As a project engineer?

Me: Yes

VO: And you're still working there?

Me: Yes, currently working

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 10:02am On Jul 15, 2019
Thank You sharwama.

The VO gave me an upper cut and got me lost, I lost it under tension and pressure. I fumbled, and it was all my fault. I will be going there prepared

sharwama:
Hey Fada!
You people should shift, I just want to cry. My chest is paining me.
I am really sorry about your denial but these responses were not what we talked about during our mock and transcript review na. Shebi we agreed we won't tell the VO anything that can implicate us? Which one is you couldn't leave your job for 18 months? As in was this response not for. "why are you not going with your wife" or something?
And then you were saying tuition is just $15k, that's like 5.4 million naira, then total, 9 million naira, in a country where about 98million citizens are poverty stricken and can barely feed? You really sounded cocky and it's not even your money ooo, na your papa go pay am! If it was affordable, why you no sponsor yourself?
Okay, what have you been doing since, shebi I told you how your response to this question ought to be. What happened sir, was it pressure?
You can take GRE again and get good funding to reduce cost, yes. However, at the end of the day, you still need to convince the VO that you are worthy and deserving of this visa, with or without funding.

Dear People,

Interview: 12the July
Location: Lagos consulate
Status: Denied

My profile GPA 3.18/4, GRE: 289 Bsc.: Food Science and Technology. Working experience: I have been working since 2015. Intended Msc.: Sustainable Energy.

I was interviewed by a black American in his mid 60's at window one.

The below transpired

V.O: Pass me your passport and I-20
Me: I obliged

V.O: Types for forever
Me: I was just wondering.

V.O: After 5 mins , the old man decided to talk. He asked when did you finish high school?
Me: *2007*

VO: When did you finish your Bsc.
Me: 2015

VO: Since then what have you been doing?
Me: I have been working

VO: Why are you just going for your Msc.
Me: At my present place of work, I signed a bond that wont allow me leave my new job role for 18 months after employment and the bond just expired few weeks ago.

VO: I can see your tuition is a lot of money, about 25k.

Me: My Tuition isn't 25k, my tuition is just 15K and my living expenses is 10k that sums it up to the 25k

VO: That's a lot, who will pay it.

Me: That's affordable and my dad is the one paying the bills

VO: What does he do?
Me: He's a prof of Law at Bleep school and he's also into clearing and forwarding.

VO: You are not qualified.

Thinking I should re write GRE and aim 300+ and apply to schools that are generous with funding.

What do you think?
PoliticsRe: Video Of Senator Elisha Abbo Assaulting A Woman Inside store by Pepperoni001: 7:24am On Jul 03, 2019
We are only QWERTY keypad warriors in this country. Just to make empty noises.

WHen are we hitting the streets to say no to RUGA.
When are we hitting the streets to demand at least 20 hours power supply daily?
When are we hitting the streets to ensure every Nigerian kids roaming the streets are back to class rooms?
When are we hitting the streets to demand bar of governance be raised in Nigeria?
When are we hitting the streets to demand Buhari to ensure the immediate release of Leah Shuabi?

The noise on social media is becoming too irritating

NSNA:
A lot has been said about Senator Elisha Abbo slapping and beating up a shop keepers friend.

One thing I noticed is that he got violent when the girl started speaking Yoruba over the phone.

Watch and be the judge

When the VO ask you for instance: Why did you choose this school? What will your response be like? The more reason you have to choose and search for schools yourself.

My own opinion tho.

Hi everyone and I’m trying to apply to a school in the USA .. the agent told me it’s around 200$ .. please house I want to know how true this is thanks y’all

Ellakemzy:
Good day Everyone..Testimony time. Sorry this is coming late.

Visa Approved
19th June 2019
7:30am appointment
Abuja.

That fateful day, I got to the embassy at 6am my interview was for 7:30am..waited outside for about an hour in my taxi..About 7:03am people started lining up at the front of the embassy, I ran to join the queue. I was among the first 25 people. The normal process started, all the different check points passed it was now time for the interviews. So it was just three people conducting the interviews on windows 6,7 and 8. Window 6 was a white lady in a late 40s I think, the lady was drilling people Seriously (asking where you worked, what you earn, when will you graduate, how much is the tuition and all the normal stuff)and dashing out rejections. Window 7 with a white man in his late 30s ,he was a bit more lenient, gave rejections too buh better than window 6. Then window 8 a white old man in his 60s if not older, the man was slow buh he was given approval to everyone going to him. That was the window I was praying to go to...

It was now my turn, I got interviewed by the white guy at window 7

Vo:Good Morning ( as if he was rushing to say it first)
Me: Good morning (smiling)

Vo: please pass me your i20 and your passport
Me: did so
Vo: thank you for passing me your documents (weird)

Vo: After looking at the i20 for a few seconds...Have you been to the US before?
Me: No, I have not had a reason to

Vo: looking at his Computer and typing...Why University of Central Missouri
Me: I chose the University of central Missouri because the school offers...(he cuts me off)

Vo: How many schools did you apply to
Me : 3 schools, University of central Missouri, University of Maryland, University of Idaho

Vo: Any other admit?
Me yea University of Maryland

Vo: so why not Maryland?
Me: Because they came me admission for MS Telecommunications (because he could ask another question I explained further) So I applied for Ms Computer Science and months later I got an email that the competition for MS Computer Science was tough that they will not be given me admission BUT I can transfer my admission to MS Telecommunications if I want to without having to pay for another application fee..that I did but they is not what I want.

Vo: ok (nodding and typing) who is sponsoring for this?
Me: Family....my brother in law

Vo: Was he part of your undergraduate education?
Me : Yes

Vo: What does he do?
Me : He is a successful businessman. He has( he cuts me off again)

Vo: do you have any proof to sure like bank statement or..
Me: I have his bank statement

Vo: can I have it?
Me: passed it to him

Vo: after looking at the bank statement for a few secs..Who is Mr Tola *****
Me: My Brother in law

Vo: I'll will put you on administrative processing..we will check to make sure the bank statement are authentic and if it's not you will be banned from the US.. Do you still want to proceed ?
Me: yes please
Vo: hands over the yellow paper and the white paper and said have a great stay..
Me: smiling my 32 teeth...thank you very much

My bank statement had about 7 million plus in it. My tuition and living expenses is $18,547. I went home rejoicing because I know my bank statement was real so there was no cause for alarm. I went online to check my status on Tuesday the 25th of June to see that my Visa has be issued..

I want to thank God for the smooth interview. And also everyone on this forum.the advice, the transcripts, everything here was really helpful. Thanks guys I appreciate .Also Mr H, he helped a lot, conducting mock interviews for me, advising me on how to go about answering interviews.Your testimony is on the way.Thank you very much

A few advice I would give is firstly smile..it helps and also be confident (it's ok to be scared but don't let them see it)...do your homework( research, know everything you need to know) A girl before me that was interviewed was asked when she would graduate ( she was going for MS ) and she said 2020(next year?) The Vo was even asking her is it 2020 or 2021 ..she still said 2020..and the next thing was rejection.

Now to my questions...
1. Please is there anybody that is going to Missouri this August.PM please
2. Or maybe you know somebody that is already in University of central Missouri..to assist me with accommodation I would really appreciate
3: what is the cheapest way to get to Missouri( which flights would you suggest..
Thank you...

People of Nairaland, I am here again, pls help me

Interview date is fast approaching

Cc: @sharwama is there any progress?

VO: Good Morning, Pass me your I-20 and SEVIS receipt.
ME: Good Morning, handed over the requested docs.
VO: Why are you going to US?
ME: I am going to US for my Graduate Study in Sustainable Energy at Eastern Illinois University.
VO: How Many Universities did you apply to?
ME: 4 Universities: Eastern Illinois University, North Eastern Illinois University, Murray State University and Georgia Southern University.
VO: How many accepted you and how many rejected you.

EIU have the largest biomass installation in USA, and it’s driven by two biomass gasifiers, the first application of this technology in Illinois and its environment. As a living laboratory, the Renewable Energy Center provide me a realistic working experience on campus. I will be opportune to enroll in CERE 5983 Sustainability Practicum, with that I will be able to job shadow with various operations related to energy production, conversion and conservation.
This center will afford me first hand opportunity to learn how energy is utilized to support the need of a community.
Aside the reasonable tuition, fees, and room and board rates, Eastern offers a textbook rental system, this will save me hundreds of dollars per semester.
VO: Any standardized test?
ME: GRE: 289 and TOEFL: 80?
V.O: What will the degree do for you?
Me: I would like to hold a managerial position at Energy Commission of Nigeria upon completion of my program, a Masters in Sustainable energy will not only qualify me for the position, This degree would give me an edge over others who might be equally interested and also equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to fit in and work perfectly well in the energy industry.
VO: Who is paying the school bills?
ME: My dad is paying the bills.
VO: What does he do? Pass me his SOA
ME: He’s a lecturer of Law at University of Ibadan and also a business man, hands her his SOA
VO: I can see you married with Kids, why are you not going with them.
ME: My wife just got started work with XYZ bank and there’s a bond she signed with them that won’t allow her leave her duty post for two years.

VO: You can pick your visa in 3 days.
ME: Alright, have a great day.

You have to go to either WAEC or NECO office to send the statement of result to WES. You don't have to pay for another money for wes to evaluate your O'level statement of result. As a matter of Fact WES started asking for O'level August 2018.

While I was applying to EIU last year, the international student office contacted me to tell my school to send them my transcript, I told them that my school is on administrative strike and it is practically impossible to send them the transcript. I told them that WES will be sending them a copy of my evaluated transcript, which I did and was accepted, as a matter of fact It saves me more dollars sending WES copy than asking my school to send them.

I hope the bold paragraph answers your last question
Moshkom:
Lol.

Oh! OK. The OND and HND can be send together, i'm sure of that (i will beg my sch to do that) but inclusion of my O'level, is it possbile? and if NOT will i've to pay another fee to WES again? won't my said REFRENCE No cover all the evaluation up ni? since i guess it's the 'goods' i purchase frm WES and they should renderd all my 'service' that is 'refrence' with my no. smiley

wow! it will make sense if i will be allow to send them my WES evalation myself. but shey it's sure they will allow? i mean all US schs allows that? because i want to be sure to avoid walaha during the application.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 12:48pm On Jun 18, 2019
You better take one step at a time no need to rush, It's like learning to fly
Or falling in love..

That being said;

My brother do the needful first because it might be easier for the needle to pass through the eye of the camel than getting your school to send your transcripts and confirmation to WES.

You see that admission, you go get am.
You see that America, you go reach there.

But please, do the needful FIRST before targeting admission type.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 12:13pm On Jun 18, 2019
I am no where near that SIR? *chuckling*

It cost about $245 to evaluate both ND & HND with wes. That is only possible if you have sent them both ND&HND transcript, O'Level Inclusive. After the evaluation is done, you will be notified and your copy will be sent to the address you indicated when registering with WES.

Sometimes the institution you are applying to in US will ask your school to send them the transcript, however you can send them WES evaluated transcript in lieu

Moshkom:
OK. How long does it take and how much SIR?

and after the evaluation is it that i will have a personal copy sent to me?

and i THOUGHT during application of MSc, it's 'MY' school that is suppose to / will have to send my transript to the sch i am apply to. or can WES do that for me too?

Thanks for the reply and the in-coming reply SIR
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 11:43am On Jun 18, 2019
To start with, you need to evaluate your transcript to USA standard using WES. It takes time, I will advise you to start with that..

SHARWAMA'S APPROVED VISA TRANSCRIPT.
Date: June 7, 2019
Venue: Lagos Consulate
T08100187629ime:6:30 a.m
Gender of VO: Male
Window: I Didn't notice, I was blown away by his cuteness and jerry curl grin grin grin
Ok it was the second to last window, before the exit door.
I: (Smiling) Good morning sir
V.O: Good morning, please pass me your passport and your I-20.
I did and he was like "please push your passport a little bit further". I pushed it and asked, "is it okay now sir?"
VO: Yes it is. Why are you going to the US
I: (deep breath + killer smile) To uhm, pursue a masters degree in Biology, Biomedical Science Concentration at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City Tennessee.
V.O: Why this degree?
I: I really want to work as a research scientist at a renowned biomedical research Institute here in Nigeria. Unfortunately, a masters degree in Biology or a closely related field is the minimum requirement for such a position. So this degree would not just help me hone my research skills or build my critical thinking, it would qualify me for the position I really want, when I return.
V.O: So why did you pick this school?
I: (Gesticulating with magical hands) For me, it wasn't just about the generous funding I received, which I am extremely grateful for by the way, it had a lot more to do with the student-faculty relationship I have built with my potential supervisor, professor Burna boy. We Skyped a couple of times and we have chosen a thesis topic I am super excited about.
V.O: What other schools did you apply to?
I: I applied at Texas A&M University, Commerce
VO: uhum(while typing)
I: Cleveland State University Ohio and Kansas State University Manhattan Kansas.
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before?
I: I have not had the need to sir.
VO: Are you married
I: No sir
V.O: You said you have funding, let me see the evidence
I: My school did not give me an official letter but it's on the I-20(I pointed at the document so he looked at it)
V.O: Ok I see $9590 to be payed by someone ,who is this?
I: That's my mum sir
V.O: What does she do?
I: My mum is a business woman, she sells African fabrics and traditional bridal attires
V.O: Yes do you have any proof, I want to see evidence.
I was confused and he mentioned "or bank statement"
I: (Killer smile)Yes, with all pleasure. Just a moment please.
So I got the bank statement
V.O(while looking at the statement) Doesn't your mum have other children to sponsor in school?
I: (I never expected that question, so my English technically failed me, so I looked at him and answered) All of us have finished school, it remainder two of us.
I was so embarrassed about my grammatical blunder but I was glad he understood the point, we were all done with school except two of my siblings.
V.O: Ok, I will be approving your Visa. He hands me the white paper. Talked about pick up in three working days, gave me back my SOA and I-20, asked me to keep it carefully and I would need the latter at the port of entry... Told me to have a wonderful day
I: (Killer smile) Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the day too.
Yup, I bounced out of the building grin
THE END grin grin grin

His project is being funded by the Alzheimer's association and d US National Institute Of Health.

Why did you choose EIU?
remove that I came across it on usnews.
Speak with assurance and confidence.

Please go and do serious research about your school and how the program you are going for is uniquely offered.

What will this skill do for you?
It is looking better but is not perfect until you talk about how it reflects on your job directly. Stop being generic.

Brown2Green:
Why did you choose EIU?

Avoid the temptation of saying the story of your life. You met who?
That waters down your point .

Compare that to ..' The renewable centre in EIU is...'
You're expected to have carried out indepth research on ALL the schools you applied to. Take out that ratio of this to that.. Virtually all schools have an impressive ratio . Go work on that point.

What will the degree do for you?
What benefit has the degree to your career plans?
That is exactly what it means!
Your response is very weak.
In what does he do.. You better respond so you can be put through the best way to present it.

If you're not going with funding, you MUST go with the motive of making a perfect impression and on time.
