It doesn't work for most Africans. The woman is likely to become Americanized. The last one even shot his wife, the grandma and finally killed himself He is acting from lessons he learnt. Business / The Fate Of Traditional Isps As Starlinks Debuts In Nigeria by PericomaNwankwo: 7:49pm On May 30, 2022 |
Earlier in March, we talked about the negligence of the African market by Satellite Internet providers. Well, two months later, as against earlier reports that Starlinks was meant to debut in South Africa first, rather, the Satellite Internet giants got the go ahead to launch into the African market by Nigeria and Mozambique. Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa and also the most populous African country and hence, leads the market in West Africa, while Mozambique is a Southern African country with a lean economy. So, what is the fate of traditional ISPs in the face of Starlinks debut and the competition it will bring? We will treat this development in regards to the Nigeria consumers and try to discuss how it will affect the traditional internet market of a country of more than 200 million people. About 35% of the Nigeria population use the internet, this is approximately 105 million people. Now that is a huge market for any internet venture. Yet, the sad thing is that 60% of these users live below poverty standards. Most phone users do not even have the second value cost of their phone in the bank. Despite this, Internet service providers run a rather non-competitive market as the cost of data is almost the same across the different service providers. With the introduction of Starlinks, we will see a correction in data charges as these Internet service providers will struggle to retain their customers. Here are the predicted adjustments that the introduction of Starlinks Satellite Internet will bring to the Nigeria market. Absolute abandonment of traditional Internet service providers by major organizations and entities. These institutions include banks, financial entities, government owned organizations, high security infrastructures and the rich and middle classes. This abandonment will be followed by migration to the use of Satellite Internet. This development is because of Satellite Internet has a higher security than the traditional internet. Also, the satellite internet will be unlimited at a cost of less than $2500/ 1.2 million Naira per year or about 350 thousand Naira at first installation and then 60 thousand Naira Monthly subscription. The Starlinks business plan goes for $500/300 thousand per month and a $2500 installation price. (All estimates are at current exchange rate as of publishing time) The upspring of business data centers that will monetize the Starlinks technology and it’s numerous benefits. These data centers will offer paid times to customers for them to use their Starlinks WIFI. Starlinks installation will present a job opportunity for the tech savvy. This opportunity will enable them to make a living from installing Starlinks network dish for individual and industrial users. The traditional internet service will become something for the individuals or below average earners. Those that cannot afford Starlinks will continue to patronize the traditional providers. What is the fate of traditional ISPs as Starlinks debuts in Nigeria? Traditional ISPs will continue to serve the below average earners that cannot afford Starlinks. But we will surely witness a massive migration of major businesses, organizations and entities to Satellite internet as Starlinks is not just cheaper, but is also safer than the classic internet. Business / Africa’s Position In A Clean Energy Based Future by PericomaNwankwo: 12:03pm On May 30, 2022 |
Let’s face it, a future of renewable energy sources will hugely impact the incomes of not just the world’s biggest economies, but will also have a drastic effect on the African Market, which it’s biggest economies rely heavily on incomes realized from trades in hydrocarbons; the leading contributor of toxic wastes into the environment. It is important to predict and act on Africa’s position in a clean energy based future. As developed nations already have diverse income streams, Africa is dazed with bigger challenges as they not only have to adjust to diversify income but also deal with the sophisticated process of migrating infrastructures to clean energy. However, getting it right in Africa required just one thing: Engaging the right human resources. While this sounds easy, it has been the basis of the African problem. Blessed with vast natural resources, engaging the right personnel to manage and utilize the resources to utmost usefulness has been a stumbling block to the continent’s progress. Africa currently accounts for 23% of world Uranium supply, while also accounting for 10% of world’s oil production. Yet, the continent ranks the least in implementation of clean energy innovations. With this metric, we can predict that Africa holds the potential to be one of the leaders of the walk towards cleaner energy. AFRICA’S POSITION IN A CLEAN ENERGY BASED FUTURE The continent must learn from the mistakes of the oil and gas sector; the mismanagement, gross corruption, unequal wealth distribution, environmental damages and societal crisis. The oil boom came with no corresponding education of the people. The lack of proper education led to blessings that came with the oil boom to turn to curses for the indigenous people. All these in turn led to little development in the midst of huge gains realized by the continent from oil and gas trades. A Uranium boom will surely put the continent in the spotlight again as mineral explorations will rise in the coming years as interests in renewable energy intensifies. A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM OF UNSTABLE POWER SUPPLY Adoption of renewable energy will also present the continent with another opportunity to finally resolve the problem of unstable power supply; A major deterrent to industrial development. Nuclear power plants powered with domestically sourced uranium specifically ran and manned by the right specialists will finally see the lights shine on Africa when viewed from the orbit. AN EFFECTIVE TACKLE TO THE PROBLEM OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN AFRICA In one of our posts, we had talked about the many challenges of self-driving in Nigeria, with the success of a Uranium boom and the innovations that will come with it, we will see increased adoption of electric vehicles across the continent. A stable electricity will also motivate the indigenous auto industry to migrate to production of electric vehicles. CONCLUSION Africa must do more to position Herself in the Renewable Energy based future by taking proactive measures today. Employing the right personnel, impacting the right orientation on the populace and ensuring that the environment is protected are a few of these measures. With this, the continent can secure a bright spot in a clean energy based future. Source: https://thefuturist.blog/2022/05/30/clean-energy-africa-future/ |
