And this made frontpage after 2 yrs!

I really don't understand how Law came into that list. With the advent of democracy, lawyers have been making it big time. Now, people are free to exercise and defend their constitutional rights.

Furthermore, the legal profession doesn't start and end in litigation. Gone are the days when u'd have to wear ur robes and appear in court before u make it as a lawyer. Now, most corporate bodies have a Legal department which handles its legal issues. No sale of land can be effectively concluded without the involvement of a lawyer who usually takes 10-20% of the cost of sale.

Every election period, lawyers make hundreds of millions of naira for handling a single election petition. This is money d Op may probably make in 2 yrs.

Anyways, my point is that the profession is very diversified. From criminal law to oil and gas law; from international law to property law to corporate law, the list is just endless.
A brilliant lawyer will fit into any of the numerous options and make serious cash.

So, Op Shun abeg. The legal profession shouldn't be on that list.
Hello, are u a lawyer?

REjoinder to my man has two cars and I trek around...

A thread titled ''My man has two cars and I trek around, isn't this selfishness? Click here:

https://www.nairaland.com/1984853/man-two-cars-trek-around
was created a few hours ago wherein a girl indited that her man just got another car while she trekked around and inquired whether or not it wasn't selfishness by the man.
Nairalanders inquired what she meant by 'my man' whereupon she said that ''we are in a committed relationship''
Now I read the comments that followed this revealation with stupefecation because most of them -- which for the sake of brevity will not be produced here --
were heart wrenching, contumelious, and savour of selfishness and inordinate hatred.

The pith and thrust of the comments is that the girl was stupid, greedy, a who.re to have harboured such thoughts. Some asked whether she felt she had a right or deserved anything simply because he was giving the man pus.sy and asked whether he was her father.

Some posited that the girl whom they labelled a gold digger had further reinforced their resolve not to marry a Nigerian girl. (Whatever that represents)
Ultimately it was a consensus that the 'stupid, useless girl should go work and make her own money, buy her own car and other views to that effect.
Now my snag with the majority view is that it reeks of selfishness and self centeredness with a vestige of frustration peppered with airs of miserly.
It was as if such a thing is a taboo and unheard of and many were calling for the poster's head

It follows that there is no longer any need for sacrifice for another.

It follows too that a girl should never make any (major) demand or have any such expectation from a man especially if she isn't married to him.
Now how do we reconcile this stance with what is at times obtainable in the society?
I know a guy in my vicinity, who as a young pastor had zilch, was paid a paltry sum then, whose wife, a banker sponsored their wedding. The guy used to use the woman's car before getting his.
Know one too that finished before the guy, got a job and helps him majorly in school financially.

I wonder if any guy now can sponsor a girl in college even without expecting something in return given the sentiments so far.

Again these days especially on Nairaland guys are wont to insult any girl that demands anything from a guy. Such phrases like olodo, asha.wo, asssh.ole gold digger, is he ur fada, are rife and they will be quick to say ' go work and make your own money' bla bla bla. This they say only when money is involved yet they expect these same women to be as they were in the 70's in terms of 'all other facets'.

They also forget that in this part of the world people do things that are not their direct responsibility, train their in laws in schools, build houses for them, start business for them etc.

Let me state that I am a proponent of women being independent but the whole enchilada was way too much.

Romance / Re: Find A Guy Who Calls You Beautiful Instead Of Hot by Peromnia: 7:04am On Jun 18, 2013
Good, but personally the word ''beautiful'' is now a platitude to me. It has lost its meaning. It's effect is now spent.
Most people now assume that you use them just to impress them. Thus, the tendency of viewing a sincere compliment made with that word as an affected and ingenuine one is ginormous.
Again, most girls have heard that word umpteen times, and it may no longer cut ice with them--- some may just see it as what everyday guy says to a girl to get her. (My opinion)
I rarely compliment women and do same only when it is expedient and sincere.
I prefer using other epithets like 'fly' 'braw' 'bonny' etc.
Cheers.

Umartins1: Oga, everything you wrote above na total gibberish. When has answering every question become unlawful? You said two of the Maths questions had no correct answers and if a candidate had shaded henceforth, he's in a mess! Na who tells you this? Na complete rubbish you talk. Besides, the pie chart has answer. Though, with the way you talk it shows you're still a 'kid' in JAMB. Do you want to tell me that those that scored 300+ answered just 30 questions? Huh? We need to wake up from our dreams and come out plainly. JAMB or their systems err. There's error somewhere. I just pray they take a review of the results.
The guy i think is inexperienced. You were harsh though.

Continuation of the above:
As regards students being immature in age, we have EXCEPTIONS, eg. Socrates, even somebody like Reuben Abati of GEJ graduated with a First Class at age 20.
But these exceptions are infinitesimal.
The above nothwithstanding, we are taking the case under normal circumstances.
Last time in JAMB exams, a question was asked in Government thus:
'Nigeria practised which system of government in the second republic?
Now tell me how an average fifteen year old would know what a second republic of Nigeria was, which and which year were taken as second republic, let alone deciphering the system of government that was practised, whether unitary, parliamentary, presidential etc.
So, you see that maturity in age is needed by an average student to provide an answer to a technical question like the above.
In other words, if you present a question like the above to 100 students with age range of 15 to17 and 18 to 20. I wager that the greater percentage that would get it correctly would be from the latter group.
Or tell me the kind of philosophy you want to teach an 'average' sixteen year old in the university
What do you think?
The other day, I visited one tutorial centre. To my utter dismay the guy was telling them, (not a slip of tongue) that the population of Nigeria was 6 million. They were all listening with rapt attention whereas every farmer in the village would refute it when taught such rubbish as lecture, because being mature the farmer would know that the population of a state like Lagos is far more than 6 million. How would they know? These were students that were preparing for this just released WAEC exams. I was gobsmacked and couldn't restrain myself from intervening politely.
Finally, I am not trying to discount the various factors that could be attributed as the cause of this anomaly as immaturity in age, but all I am advocating is that students are now more immature in age as used to be the case hence their inability to discipline themselves, place their priorities right and have a sound grasp of what they are being taught.
Thanks for your attentiveness.

Seconded.
A teacher last time at where my little sis attended lessons was teling those over pampered kids the diff btw Federal and Confederal systems of govt and they were just mopping at him. When he asked questions, their face showed that notin was understood.

Please I am Nnamdi. I recide in the East.
Finished secondary school five years ago. Presently I stay with my brother who sales wares.
I took this last JAMB exams which to the glory of God was relatively favourable. I put in LAW.
Seeing numerous number of people complaining of leaving school without job gets me disillusioned as regards furthering my education.
Sometimes, I get bored when I open my books. I just feel like ending this whole academic pursuits and find something else.
And being that am out to study Law, I don't really see many career prospects for Lawyers.
The alleged little amount that Lawyers earn is not also helping matters. Maybe I am not yet enlightened or haven't had my eyes opened.
All I want are good reasons (or benefits of education) that will serve as motivation for me to move on and continue with my preparations for the aptitude tests or just abandon this education stuff.
Thanks for your attention.
