This weekend represents the ninth anniversary since a Mourinho team last lost a home league match, but the former Porto, Chelsea and Inter boss insists he is not interested in records, concluding: “If we have 10 minutes to go and we need to tie the game, I think of titles, not records.”
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho this weekend celebrates the ninth anniversary since his last home league defeat, representing the continuation of one of the most impressive modern-day football statistics.

The Portuguese coach last tasted defeat domestically during his spell in charge of Porto, on February 23, 2002 when Beira Mar overcame the Dragons courtesy of a 3-2 victory, and since that encounter, Mourinho has notched 147 league games without loss, through spells at Chelsea, Inter, and now Real Madrid.

In those games, his teams have achieved 122 victories and 25 draws, scoring 331 goals with only 87 in reply, and in his seven months at the Santiago Bernabeu, he holds a 100% record, not just in La Liga, but in all competitions.

The visitors to the capital on Saturday are relegation-threatened Levante, who have already suffered a crushing 8-0 loss to Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey this season.

The Special One's Run

P W D L
Porto Feb 2002-summer 2004 38 36 2 0
Chelsea summer 2004-summer 2007 60 46 14 0
Inter summer 2008-summer 2010 38 29 9 0
Real Madrid summer 2010- 11 11 0 0

Mourinho must navigate just three more matches to reach an iconic milestone of 150; Levante, Malaga on March 3 and Hercules 10 days later.

And should his team negotiate those matches, the small matter of champions Barcelona in the second El Clasico on the season is on the horizon, with the fixture to be played on the weekend on April 16/17.

You guys are very right but i don't think it is easy for a youth player to develop at madrid considering the pressure that is placed on the club. Sergio canales, Granero , pedro leon, negredo, dani parejo and soldado played better in other teams than when they are in madrid. I would have preferred a more focused youth president and a coach like pellegrini to stay in madrid for like at least five years to stabilize things. Mourinho will always go for result and will sure seek the needed players to achieve that. I just want those youth players to leave for like three years and come back later to take over because they are just wasting their talents right now. The midfield is too choked up and even the forward line is choked up right now for morata to even come up to the first team next season.

I hope there will be some changes by the end of the season when some players will be told to leave and we can re-organize ourselves. Fabregas would not be popular today if he was still at barca and he should only comeback when it is just one year left for xavi in other to to take over. Our youth players should just go and develop themselves in other la liga teams and comeback only during the transition period because there are just too many stars that will not sit on the bench.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: FC Barcelona Fan Thread: "Més Que Un Club" by Pharoh: 1:41pm On Feb 18, 2011
Ajalenko

The hunger might not be there because arsenal is not a rival like RM or espanyol and they are even more of a friend than a foe. The fabregas factor is there and they have the same  total football philosophy like barca. There is no hatred between the coaches or players to hate like CR7 so the intensity will not be there but that will be different in the second leg. Except it is an Hi5 lol, then it will surely be a full 90 minutes of concentration for barca like the second match against inter. Remember they did not show any hunger against inter in the first leg except in the last 20 minutes and arsenal is not yet a Chelsea in which the rivalry ran for three consecutive seasons.

I expect the rivalry to be tough if they ever meet again next year just like rubin kazan and that will be the same for inter as well if they meet also . I think another factor was that barca did not come for a win but a favorable result in other to finish everything up at nou camp. I think there is a form of respect for arsenal as well as they are very unpredictable, they are one of the few teams that can hold the ball, move it round for barca to chase and make something out of it as well. Barca came for the away goal which they got and with their strength in the nou camp, they hope to finish it off but who knows 2moro?. I will be looking forward to that match as well and the key for that day will be an early or first goal for any of the two teams.

To say the truth, i think the main rivals this year for barca in europe  are  arsenal and bayern so barca should take those teams very serious if they want to win the champions league. I bet you even teams like Manu, madrid and inter the other lesser rivals for now will be praying for arsenal to carry the day.  As a madrid fan i don't want to meet any team that can move the ball around very well like barca, arsenal, bayern and even in la liga like villareal.

Pharoh, I think you are taking this thing too personal.
Nothing written here has any bearing on the actual games (unless you dey play Rapido or maybe William Hill grin). So let's all relax. Just like when you watch a movie sometimes, we take sides, even though we know it's all acted. Footie is just a game at the end of the day.
Thank you bros correction taken and we are already cool on the sevilla thread self if you check it out, from now on everything is fine and i don't take anything personal oo   cool.  I play those things and thats why i tell people that i don't give a damn if they beat madrid 20 - 0  grin, i know where my heart belongs to lol. Barca has been very good to me but am not counting on them this weekend sha because they are down. I understand all your points and correction taken so no more of this anymore.

I went back to watch the two matches for last seasons encounter and i came to a conclusion which i kept to myself but it was confirmed again during this last match and even more. But one thing i will just tell barca fans is that, it is the team that goes through that will be remembered and not the one who played the better football. The winning team or the team that gets the better advantage over the two legs will surely go through, this is not the time to prove which of the team is better or not.

The same thing happened with inter last year, better team but inter qualified, arsenal is coming to the camp nou in other to qualify and not to be a better team than barca. It might even be a possession that will be split in a 80:20 percent ratio but the most important thing is who goes through.
Arsenal is following their objectives of 1) to beat barca and show that they are no pushovers, 2) they have learned their lessons and just want to pass through barca for the records to the next round.  Barca at this point should rethink what is in it for  them in these two games because i feel they are trying to prove too much that they are better than arsenal. I might be wrong but this is my little analysis but at the end of the day, la liga teams for me but na madrid get the cup sha.  grin

Ribadu is just like every other politician that will make empty promises only for the government to be hijacked from him when he finally gets in there. I don't believe tinubu and the others are just there for the benefits of this nation, they are surely there for their own self interest. We know what is happening to fashola right now and if ribadu eventually gets there the sponsors will surely ask for their reward. Ribadu should have gone to the national assembly because it is very obvious that some people are simply pushing him and this was never his initial ambition in life.

Politics › Ribadu Pledges One Million Houses, 30 Million Jobs ( Acn's Manifesto ) by Pharoh(op): 12:39pm On Feb 18, 2011
IT was a day for Nigeria’s renewal for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday as it kicked off its presidential campaign with a colloquium in Abuja.

The event apart from being a novelty in electioneering in Nigeria, was issue-driven and the common denominator in the speeches of the party leaders was the birth of a new Nigeria through the ballot at the forthcoming April general elections.

One after the other, ACN leaders including its presidential candidate, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Boss Mustapha, Chief Audu Ogbeh, former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others brought current disturbing national issues to the front burner at the discuss.

Ribadu, who was the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), went into the specifics of his administration if elected into office and how they will be actualised.

He promised that an ACN administration would “bring to all Nigerians a sense of hope that would radiate across the land when the party initiates its one million houses a year and through this scheme alone, open the doors for 30 million jobs. Imagine what we will do in the area of arts and culture with the creation of a national endowment of the arts that will empower our young men and women to be productively engaged through this country’s first structured cultural entrepreneurial scheme.”

On the power sector reform agenda of the ACN, Ribadu said: “Now that we all know that the ruling party has completely lost the will and is incapable of summoning the vision of tackling the power sector challenges, it is important to share our broad thoughts on how this priority sector is located at the heart of our economic development programme. How can a country like Egypt with 80 million people be able to generate 25,000 Giga watts of power and South Africa with a population of 35 million generates 40,000 megawatts while Nigeria, the presumed leader of the region, only generates 3,000 megawatts of power.

“ACN administration will move promptly to diversify the energy mix and invest in decentralised renewable energy such as wind, solar and biomass, especially in rural areas, with limited grid access.”

According to him, an ACN government would also provide fiscal incentives for private developers by employing clean technologies in areas like coal power generation. “Through a vigorous consumer education programme, we shall also promote the most efficient use of energy.”

He said as citizens of other countries, especially in Africa, are protesting against their dictatorial leaders, Nigerians should act sensibly and effect the change they are yearning for through the ballot.

He said Nigeria needs a leadership that will create a united, modern, secured and just society to meet the challenges of the 21st Century and also address corruption, insecurity, and economic failure. This he identifies as the three fundamental ills now plaguing the country.

Ribadu said unless Nigerian leaders actively disable the capacity of corruption to regenerate, “through a cocktail of excellent laws, professional enforcement engagements and a vigorous public education on its dangers to our social health, no governance policy will work.”

He lamented that 50 years of failed leadership and corruption had “conspired to deny Nigeria its place of honour and pride,” but quickly added that the future of the country could still be written in “bright and warm colours.”

Ribadu stressed the need to address decades of under investment, policy incoherence and a failure to appreciate the crucial role of modern infrastructure in economic development and social cohesion that have put Nigeria in the class of failed nations.

The presidential candidate said even though it had become fashionable for most leaders to talk mechanically about change in the country, including “those who have inflicted the worst injury on the nation’s treasury, the change that Nigeria needs now must start with a leadership that is transparent, accountable, competent, experienced, and virile.

“We must not lose the significance of this event as it is occurring against the international background of momentous political changes taking place in the north of our region - from Tunisia, through Egypt, to Algeria and Yemen, where young people are kicking against enthroned autocracies that have pinned their nations down for decades.

“They are tossing off decades of oppression and failed forms of governance. In an exciting display of people’s power, these young men and women are demanding, negotiating, and securing democracy through the slogan of change. If we fail to urgently realise the vision of a modern Nigeria, the echoes of currently muted, but potentially destabilising, change will soon consume our land.”

Ribadu therefore promised that if voted into power, his administration would “be guided by an unalloyed loyalty to party principles and programmes anchored on social justice compact targeted to the transformation and development of the nation on the ethos of distributive justice.

The former anti-graft czar noted that Nigeria for long has suffered “failure of governance, failure of economic management, and a failure of the national social contract,” pledging that an ACN-led Federal Government would tackle the ills of the society by revitalising the economic and social sectors such that the chronic problems of power, infrastructure, social amenities, and unemployment get the true attention they deserve.

“The ACN must take these matters serious and work to reverse the leadership and integrity deficits that characterise many departments of our nation’s life. What we need today is a transformational leadership model that shows courage in making difficult decisions with respect to issues that has plagued the nation.”

In an interview with journalists, Tinubu said ACN under a free and fair contest would win the 2011 presidential election.

He noted that ACN is a party of ideas and committed to the transformation of Nigeria to save it from the ruins of the past.

Tinubu said: “When you look at the country, the social amenities, our economic level, empowerment of our people, we have over 10 million unemployed graduates and all these tell you that the country is yearning for change. If you prevent rigging and manipulation of results, ACN will carry Nigeria to the promised land. We want to provide a 21st Century leadership that has the courage, firm determination and vision to drive the nation. The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has no room in South-West, they are suffocating themselves, and we will sweep the bad leadership and underdevelopment away with our broom”.

He described Ribadu as a courageous, determined, forthright individual that has good vision for the country.

Mustapha said as the leading opposition party, “ACN needs to position itself in the vanguard of not only changing Nigeria’s debased political ecology brought about by over a decade of misrule by the ruling party but to defend, deepen and consolidate its democracy and overall well being.”

He said the party would achieve that through concrete political engineering and consciously redirecting the nation’s politics from that of big men to that of big ideas through its well thought-out policy options as encapsulated in the party’s manifesto.

His words: “Now that the nation’s political space is already being seriously fouled by the sheer incompetence of the PDP, we have the patriotic duty to individually and severally see to it that this great country of ours does not degenerate beyond what it is now. Our first step towards doing that is to come up with concrete and practical measures to eradicate abject poverty, secure life and property, expand human capacity in science and technology.”

In his overview of the ACN manifesto, Ogbeh, who heads the Manifesto Committee, said the party would provide Nigerians a genuine democratic alternative to the existing political order that tends to constrain the economic development of the country.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola after reeling out his administration’s achievements, said the PDP has no manifesto that can galvanise Nigerians into action.

The party’s National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, who was absent at the event, was said to be attending ACN convention in the United States.

Other party stalwarts in attendance included the Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, his Osun State counterpart Rauf Aregbesola, and the Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Others were the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, erstwhile Governor of Jigawa State Saminu Turaki, one-time Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, and former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Akpan Udoedehe.

Politics › Ribadu Throws Cheap Shots At Ciroma. by Pharoh(op): 12:24pm On Feb 18, 2011
Malam Nuhu Ribadu’s Campaign Organization has accused the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF), led by Malam Adamu Ciroma, of insincerity over the issue of a northern consensus candidate.

The organization made the accusation against the backdrop of the decision of the Northern leaders to brush aside the presidential aspiration of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) flag bearer and that of his Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) counterpart, General Muhammadu Buhari.

Although the organization said it recognizes that the Northern elders were actually looking for a northern candidate under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), it said they had all along created the impression that they were looking for someone who would represent the interest of the entire north and not that of a section of it.

With that in mind, the organization wondered why the NPLF would not back another northerner other than Atiku Abubakar if its objective was truly to protect the interest of the north.

The ACN candidate suggested that it seems more likely that the northern elders were actually looking for someone who would protect their private interests rather than that of the north.

It said that the ACN flag bearer, as an anti-corruption crusader, happens to be a credible candidate who has served the nation meritoriously for 25 years. It further pointed out that he proved his mettle as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when he was entrusted with the responsibility of dealing with such crimes in the country.

lol at the bolded part. I can't believe they lost at home yet again. There's really no use for the return leg.
I think Villareal has a good chance of going through after the 0-0 draw away at Napoli. They can get a win at home at the Madrigal but I must say that Napoli are really good. A tough game it will be.
Well i will not write them off because they like Valencia and athletico madrid are European cup veterans and they do better in this competitions more than la liga so all hopes are not lost. There is no excuse why this club cannot be competing for the top four spot in la liga every season if not even winning it someday but they are just something else these days.

As for Villarreal, i will be very very sad if they go out at this stage but it will be very tough for them as they did not get any away goal and napoli is very determined to make it in Europe. Villarreal is better in my opinion but they have been having problems lately in scoring goals and i hope things will change when they meet in the second leg fixture. Well there is still hope for both clubs but sevilla just have to step it up or they will be dumped out and the only thing remaining for them is to fight for another Europa league qualification next season if they can even make it. Getafe, soceidad and A.madrid will give them a tough time as i don't even see espanyol and bibao coming down from their present position.
