The displaced traders of Soyeyya Market, demolished by Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), have sued the agency and African Petroleum, purported to have "bought" the market for use as parking space.

A case, which is fixed for
hearing on November 30, was filed on their behalf by the state chapter of the National Conscience Party; and the aggrieved traders have also decided to submit a petition to the state's House of Assembly and the commissioner of police.

The traders are accusing LAWMA of "unjust oppression" after forcefully carting away their wares without any notice. The act has rendered about 2000 traders jobless who daily loiter around the demolished market hoping their wares will be returned.

"On Monday, they came to drive us away," said Isa Mohammed, one of the traders. "But we did not pay attention to them. Our boys were just playing cards when the Navy officers, who came without having name
tags, started shooting."

President Goodluck Jonathan
yesterday called for the
revitalization of the Nigeria/
Egypt Joint Commission during a meeting with the new Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Youssef Hassan Shawki.Mr. Jonathan said
the Commission, which had its last meeting in 1991, needed to be resuscitated to oversee the expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Noting that the bilateral relations with Egypt is very important to Nigeria, the President assured Mr.
Shawki of the full cooperation and support of the Federal Government in the performance of his duties. Mr. Jonathan also said that Nigeria will take all necessary actions to ensure the security of its territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea.

Speaking at an audience with the Cameroonian Minister of External Relations, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the President said action will also be taken to actualize the establishment of Nigeria/Cameroon joint security patrols.

The President stated that his
office is fully commited to the protection of Nigerians and Cameroonians living in the border areas of both countries.

American rapper, Rick Ross,
Kenya's P-Unit, South Africa's Jozi and Nigeria's Wande Coal have been added to the list of
performers at the 2010 MTV
Africa Music Awards (MAMA) with Airtel scheduled for Saturday December 11.

Rick Ross, who will be visiting Africa for the first time, has been described by the New York Times as "one of rap's most potent and creative forces". The rapper made his debut in 2006 with the chart bursting single ‘Hustlin', and currently has four solo albums to his name plus a collaboration album with Tripple C.

He is nominated in the Best
International category at the
2010 MAMA.

Nigeria will hold a presidential election on April 9, 2011, the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) said on
Tuesday, ending months of
uncertainty over the timetable for polls in Africa's most populous nation.

Parliamentary elections will be held on April 2 while
governorship polls in the
country's 36 states will round off the process on April 16, INEC chief Attahiru Jega told a news conference in Abuja.
