PoliticsPanic In Lagos, Ogun Over 'Fulani Invasion' Text Messages by pheesayor(op): 3:31pm On Mar 15, 2010
There was panic in Lagos and Ogun yesterday, following the reported influx of armed Hausa-Fulani herdsmen into the states.

But the police doused the tension, assuring residents that all was well.

Many residents received text messages on their mobile telephones that the herdsmen came into the states from the North.

Some of the messages claimed that the herdsmen came from Jos, Plateau State, where hundreds of children and women were killed in Dogo Nahawa last Sunday.

The messages asked residents to be "alert" and beware of "strange faces".

The Lagos and Ogun Police commands said there was no truth in such claims.

At Mowe, Kara and Ibafo on the outskirts of Lagos yesterday, the herdsmen were seen trying to settle down.

They were arranging their household items in makeshift homes.

They rebuffed attempts in speak with them.

The Lagos Command described the text messages alleging the arrival of trailer loads of strange elements with dangerous mission as false.

A statement by Commissioner of Police Marvel Akpoyibo said investigation revealed that there was no truth in the claims.

The statement entitled: "Security Alert", reads: "The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to various text messages currently in circulation and on the internet, alleging the arrival of trailer loads of strange elements in the state. Investigation carried out so far has revealed that there is no truth whatsoever in these seemingly alarming text messages.

"The state police command has, however, put proactive measures in place to ensure safety of lives and property of all law-abiding citizens in the state. Members of the public are, therefore, advised to continue to exercise their civic responsibilities by covertly passing information on all suspicious characters to the police rather than encourage the spread of false text messages that were circulated in the first instance to cause scare and restiveness in the state.

"The police command is sincerely appreciative of the collaborative efforts, who have continued to render assistance to the police on our collective resolve to realise our mission statement of ‘zero tolerance’ for crime in Lagos State.

"Members of the public are hereby advised to go about their lawful business without fear as the state command is determined at all times and by the grace of God to guarantee service delivery to the good people of Lagos State.

The Ogun Command yesterday placed Kara near Ibafo on the Lagos –Ibadan Expressway, under a 24-hour surveillance.

A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, described the herdsmen as harmless traders.

"No single offensive weapon was found on them after a thorough search and interrogation conducted by the senior officers of the Command who were drafted to the area.

"Without mincing words, these visitors are pure Hausa Fulani traders who have come with their family members for their genuine businesses and not for any harm," Adejobi stated.

Adejobi said the herdsmen did not come from the North but were displaced vegetables/fruits dealers in Akani - Modo Market, Mile 12, Lagos.

They were displaced following the development projects being undertaken in the market by the Lagos State Government, he said.

In Jos, Plateau State, there was anxiety yesterday – exactly one week after the killings.

But there were fears of a fresh bloodbath, with the arrest of over 45 youths by a joint patrol team of the army and the police.

Most churches in Vwang, Turu, Chugwi and Fwil did half services. Many worshippers rushed out of churches over fear of possible attacks. Most of the churches closed half way into their services, when the news of the arrest of 45 suspected militant youths who were said to be coming from Lafia, Nasarawa State, was broken.

The news kept transporters off Jos yesterday. Most passengers who left Jos for Port Harcourt on Saturday, with intention of returning yesterday were stranded.

A text message received from Port Harcourt from a Jos journalist said they were "finding it difficult to come back after the news of the arrest that went to the press".

Police spokesman Mohammed Lerema, told our reporter on phone that the "arrested persons were still undergoing interrogation and as soon as they are done, the outcome would be made public".

A member representing Jos-South and Jos-East in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, urged the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Paul Dike, and the Chief of Army Staff, General AbdulRahman Danbazzau, to hold the General Officer Commanding, 3 Armoured Division, Jos, Major General Saleh Maina, responsible for the Dogon-Nahawa killings.

"So long as General Maina remains the G.O.C of Jos, there is no guarantee for peace in Jos, because we have totally lost confidence in him," Kaze said, adding:

"Maina declared to us that the Army has taken full security operations of Jos and Plateau State. He added that since then maintenance of law and order in Plateau State is now a military operation. He further assured all that he was going to do the job professionally and in accordance with the law.

"So, he must be held responsible for the carnage at Dogon-Nahawa because he said he has taken over the full security of Plateau State. He even ordered all other security agencies to be subjected to his command against known constitutional provisions. Therefore, he should be held responsible for anybody that is lost since he took over the security operation."

PoliticsLawmaker Seeks Suspension Of Plateau From Nysc Scheme by pheesayor(op): 1:34pm On Mar 10, 2010
The Minority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu has faulted the continued posting of youth corps members to Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

The Lawmaker, who spoke with reporters at the assembly complex yesterday in Akure, said it was totally wrong for the managers of the scheme to post fresh graduates to the troubled state knowing full well that there have been violent crisis in the area in the past 10 years.

“It is criminal for the National Youth Service Corps to post people to the troubled zone when the area is noted for crisis. We all living witnesses to how youth corps members have been the target of these crises in Jos,” he said.

Mr. Akinsoyinu said corps members posted to the area always passed through untold hardship, lamenting that some corps members were still missing after the January 17 crisis that broke out in Jos.

“I think the NYSC scheme is no longer relevant in this country, the programme was created after the civil war to integrate the various ethnic groups in the country. But now that the civil war is over, we don’t need any more integration,” he said.

Unhelpful government

The lawmaker also blamed the federal government for not finding a lasting solution to the Jos crisis, saying government has failed in its duty of providing adequate security for its citizenry.

Mr Akinsoyinu, who is representing Ondo West in the state Assembly, said for crisis to cease in Jos, the federal government must make sure that all the people that are involved in fanning the embers of crisis in the area are brought to book.

“The crisis in Jos is fast becoming too many, government must brace up and get to the root of the matter. There are many people who are fuelling the crisis that should be brought to book,” he said. “Some cabals are behind the crisis, and it is only when these cabals are probed that Jos will enjoy peace.” He also disagreed with the people calling for the imposition of state of emergency in the troubled state, saying, “state of emergency will not bringing solution to the crisis. Since there is no external influence in the crisis rocking the area, government will only be wasting time by imposing state of emergency in Plateau. It is their leaders that are causing problem in the area,” he said.

PoliticsSoyinka Calls For Criminal Proceeding Against Turai by pheesayor(op): 11:04am On Mar 09, 2010
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has called for the institution of criminal proceedings against the wife of Nigeria’s ailing President, Mrs. Turai Yar’Adua for kidnapping her husband. Soyinka, who made the call at a rally, “Women Arise for Change Initiative” organised to mark the International Women Day held in Lagos and the world over yesterday, accused the first lady of keeping President Yar’Adua unduly and illegally under false imprisonment.

The rally which was tagged “1000 woman march” kicked off from Allen Avenue in Ikeja and terminated at the Lagos State governor’s office in Alausa where they presented letter to the governor for onward delivery to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.
In attendance were political and human rights activists including African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Prof. Pat Utomi, Presiding Pastor of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare and Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, among others .

Speaking during the rally in Allen Avenue Roundabout, Soyinka remarked that Turai had kidnapped President Yar’Ádua “under false imprisonment. If it were in a civilized society, Turai should be in court by now for kidnapping and false imprisonment. This is far more than abusing her spouse.
“Turai is also abusing a sovereign nation. She is abusing and insulting the intelligence of a nation. Release President Yar’Adua now. Stop insulting and belittling his family. Even his mother is not allowed to see him. This is sacrilege. I think we should begin criminal proceeding against Turai for kidnapping and false imprisonment of President Yar’Adua.”

He urged the first lady to release President Yar’Adua to enable him address his countrymen about his health condition, saying Nigerians “are no longer happy about the manner the first lady is insulting Nigeria.”
The Nobel laureate described the renewed Jos massacre that left more than 200 persons dead on Sunday as pathetic and sad.
Soyinka said Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ogbonna Onovo and other security chiefs in Plateau State and the country should be held responsible for the recent carnage and massacre.

Characteristically, Soyinka carpeted lawmakers at the state and national assemblies for their failure to do what is expected of them. He accused them of “busy collecting Ghana Must Go” bags filled with state funds that could have been used to promote public welfares and well-being in the country.
He lampooned the IG and security forces for going to sleep while gunmen unleashed mayhem on innocent Nigerians in Jos, saying “they should be held responsible. Worst still, the legislatures instead of doing what is expected of them, are busy collecting Ghana Must Go. Women should rise up because women and children are the major culprit of the crisis.

SportsLagerback Wants Beijing Olympic Players In Eagles by pheesayor(op): 3:18pm On Mar 02, 2010
New Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback, has demanded for the dossier of the Nigerian Under-23 team that reached the final of the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. The Swede, who would be unveiled to Nigerians tomorrow (Wednesday), told the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)’s bigwigs that he would want the entire members of the Olympic team to start his re-building process of the Super Eagles.

According to an NFF source, the former Sweden coach was of the view that a squad that played and lost 1–0 to Argentina in the final of the Olympic Games, must be very good players and should graduate to the senior team.

Lagerback expressed surprise that the Nigerian team is still struggling after reaching the final of the Olympic Games two years earlier, adding that with those players that held the world spell-bound, the Eagles should be among the best in the world.

Our source stated that Lagerback said he would want a compile the dossier of all the players and find out why some of them were dropped from the Super Eagles, stating that he would give preference to the Olympic team players first. Speaking further, our source disclosed that Lagerback is also expected to pick local players from the domestic league and camp them occasionally before picking those who would join the main team for the world cup camping

mr_me_too:
Lmao @ this thread. U guys are funny. IMO and remember this is just me, I don't speak for any other man. . . the remake was wack!!! It was just all over the place and not well co-ordinated. If the original was 10/10, this was a 2/10 at best. One of the best and simplest reviews I saw about this was, "The original was made in an era talent was discovered and this remake was made in era talent is created" I think that pretty much sums it up.
I was about commending the remake but going thru ur comment now I'll just say "in this part of the world where natural disasters almost do not exist, seeing artistes like that come together and the scenes from the earthquake brings tears out of one's eyes, I'll tell you I shed tears, yes I did".
But IMO the original will always be perfered just because it is the ORIGINAL, Michael was a perfectionist.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Rated ‘fifth Worst City’ by pheesayor(m): 2:23pm On Feb 15, 2010
that's the point in Lagos and even the whole of Nigeria. Infrastructural development is not an issue but the issue is maintainance. Nigerians are DIRTY!!!
An example is the walk-ways disposal meant for little wastes like pure water nylon & from Ikorodu road down to Mobolaji Bank Anthony and co have been turned to refuse bins for home refuse. Simply put, those in Lagos are the worst enemies of the state.

blackcypha:
WHY wud Abuja be on the list when it is just developing?
IT shud be said that population is NO EXCUSE TO BE RATED POORLY OR TO BE A SLUM.Why?Becos NEW YORK ,NY HAS OVER 22MILLION PPLE, AND TOKYO HAS over 3O MILLION PPLE  yet these 2 cities r by far cleaner than Lagos. How come u dont see ameriacans DUMPING THEIR REFUSE ONTHE STREETS OR Tokyo residents THROWING WASTE OR DIRT IN THE DRAINAGES with their over population?
THey dont have OPEN DRAINAGES OR SEWAGES LIKE IN MOST PARTS OF LAGOS.They defnitely aint got POTHOLES on their roads and they dont have refuse disposal problems,
lets be realistic OUR DIRTY CULTURE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EYESORE THAT WE SEE, not our population!
Besides lagos is not 18million pple, dats exaggeration, the real figure lies betwee 12-15mill which can still be managed well if we r disciplined.

and please when will NIGERIANS LEARN TO STOP YAKKING GIBBERISH ON THREADS LIKE UNEXPOSED ADULTS?
Let us wake up it is the 21 CENTURY,we have THE INTERNET AND SATELLITE TV,WITH GEOGRAPHICAL SATELLITES OF USA AND JAPAN IN SPACE, YOU DONT NEED TO
GO TO SUDAN TO KNOW DAT IT IS A FAMINE PRONE COUNTRY!VIDEOS FROM THE INTERNET AND SATELLITE TV SAYS IT ALL, LIKE WISE NO FOREIGNER NEEDS TO VISIT NAIJA TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING , NOTHING IS HIDDEN IN THE MODERN WORLD.Notice that no US city made the top ten even when it is clear dat cities like PITTSBURGH in the US  are among the cleanest and safest in the world!Isnt dat surprising?
Yet we nigerians know alot has to be done and we can only hope dat tins will improve.instead of  denying the facts in the name of BLIND PATRIOTISM, lets us
face reality and take our destiny in our own hands, chase out these miscreants in power who have made a mess of Lagos (as a result of neglect)and nigeria as a whole  and vote credible leaders dat will take us to the promised land.

PoliticsAondoakaa Apologises To Akunyili by pheesayor(op): 8:52am On Feb 12, 2010
The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), on Thursday apologised to the Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, over disparaging remarks in a newspaper report.

Aondoakaa, who was redeployed to the Ministry of Special Duties on Wednesday by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, was reported by a national daily (not The PUNCH) as having described Akunyili as someone seeking cheap popularity.

In the report published on Monday, the former AGF said Akunyili’s controversial memo asking ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua to hand over power to Jonathan, was “self-seeking.”

Speaking further on the memo, which was rejected last week by members of the Federal Executive Council, he advised her to go and confront unstated issues about her tenure at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

Aondoakaa reportedly said, “What she is trying to do is self-seeking. Let her go and confront herself with what happened in NAFDAC.”

The information minister swiftly replied Aondoakaa by telling him in a letter to clarify the comments in the story within seven days or face legal action.

But, in a February 9, 2010 letter to Akunyili, tiled “Re: Retraction of libellous publication,” Aondoakaa adopted a conciliatory tone.

Addressing Akunyili as “My Dear Sister,” he wrote, “I wish to draw your attention to the above subject matter conveyed by your letter dated February 8, 2010.

“While much of the quoted words in your letter can rightly be ascribed to me, the import of the last sentence, to the effect that ‘let her go and confront herself with what happened in NAFDAC’ was meant to be in the positive but was wrongly presented in the negative.

“The correct import of the above quoted words is that the honourable minister had already earned a reputation for herself while at NAFDAC and needs not seek to do more by embarking on the present course of action to the detriment of a resolution already adopted unanimously by members of the FEC.

“Accept the assurances of my highest regards and consideration.”

Initially when I started with the supplements(June last year) I lost 4 kg, weighing 105 from 109 but recently I checked and found out I've lost an extra 5kg weighing 98kg, it could have dropped more but I must confess it's not easy crontrolling what you need. Those cravings can be hard to control but I'm trying and will lose more weight soon.
Also I've booked an appointment with a doctor for general body check up. The blisters in my mouth continues to show up and I dont know what to do about it. Then, at times when I sleep in the afternoon, my whole body shakes and I wake up suddenly, is this an apnea?
