Orders refund of money for already conducted exams By Laide Akinboade Abuja— Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, yesterday, reiterated the Federal Government’s ban on Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, conducted by tertiary institutions for admission into universities and other higher schools of learning in the country. Adamu told journalists in Abuja that any institution that violates the directive will be punished by the Federal Government. He said: “The ban is with immediate effect and under no circumstance should any institution violate the directive. Those who have already advertised for the conduct of the Post-UTME under any guise should stop the exercise immediately. “If any tertiary institution has already conducted Post-UTME, such an exercise stands annulled and money taken from candidates must be refunded immediately.” He said the emphasis had become necessary to ensure that no stakeholder was left in doubt about government’s position on the matter. He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, any educational institution, after secondary education, is regarded as a tertiary institution. Therefore, all tertiary institutions, by whatever name it is called, after secondary education, must be subjected to admission through JAMB.” He added that universities were at liberty to expel any student who failed to meet up with the requirements for any degree enrolled for. He said there was no empirical evidence to show that since the inception of Post-UTME, universities had been having better students, adding that students were still being expelled annually for low performance, even as they gained admission through Post-UTME. He said parents and guardians spend fortunes on transportation, hotel accommodation, examination fees and sundry costs, just for their wards to gain admission into universities; while in some cases, parents die in the process of travelling to secure admission for their wards, a situation he described as painful and avoidable. Adamu directed the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the appropriate departments in the ministry to communicate this directive to relevant agencies and institutions to ensure strict compliance. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/fg-dares-varsities-conduct-post-utme-face-sanctions/

Most of us love the notion of being in a relationship that lasts forever; A relationship that is strong and withstands the test of time. But the reality can be a hard pill to swallow, with many marriages ending in divorce. Here are seven secrets of couples who stick together forever: 1. Learn to forgive, forget and move on This is one of the most important factors that determine the longevity of a relationship. Unless both partners are forgiving, a relationship cannot last long. 2. Have healthy fights When two adults live together, fights are inevitable. It is how we fight and resolve issues that matter. Having healthy fights can be a sign of a healthy relationship. Just ensure that the purpose of your fight is to resolve issues, rather than to throw accusations and/or blame each other. 3. Discuss finances As much as you would like it to be otherwise, life is not a fairytale. You need to face practical issues such as each other’s finances and savings, and your future money-oriented goals. 4. Keep boredom at bay Nothing can kill a relationship faster than boredom. We, as humans are programmed to gravitate to new experiences. So when a relationship gets stale and boring, our need for something new and exciting arises. How do you keep boredom at bay? Talk to your partner, find out hobbies and interests that you both share and nurture that. 5. Hold each other’s hands whenever you can There is actual scientific evidence to back up the theory that holding hands can make your relationship stronger. 6. Show appreciation Never take your partner/spouse for granted. Showing appreciation and gratitude for both the little and big things that they do is a great way to let them know that you notice and are grateful for their efforts. 7. Share a kiss in bed before falling asleep With work and life taking its toll, spending quality time with your partner is becoming more difficult. Most couples have scheduled s*x, preferably on the weekends when they don’t have to worry about work. So what about the rest of the nights? Just because you don’t have the time or energy for s*x does not mean you cannot have a special, intimate moment. It can be something as simple as kissing your partner good night, every night, that can strengthen your bond and bring you closer together. All these ingredients come together to ensure that a couple stays together, no matter what hurdles life throws at them. http://www.firmtech1.com/2016/06/check-out-7-secrets-of-couples-who.html?m=0

This is according to SA to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications & New Media, Lere Olayinka. Read the statement below.. ‘A management team from Zenith Bank Plc visited Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, over the involvement of the bank in the funding of the June 21, 2014 governorship election of the governor. Their visit to the governor followed a reported denial by the bank that it was not part of the funding of the election. The team was led by an Executive Director, Sola Oladipo. It also had two zonal directors of the bank and the Ado-Ekiti branch manager. When accosted by newsmen, the ED said they only came to see the governor. Asked whether the bank really dissociated itself from the claim by the governor that it was part of the funding of the election, Shola could only mutter some inaudible words. He eventually said the spokesman for the bank was not on the team and could not say anything. While commenting on the development, Governor Fayose said the bank officials came to beg him over the issue. “They were begging me and that the matter should not go beyond this level. I asked them why did they go to the EFCC to tell lies. Why did they have to lie that money came from the Office of the National Security Adviser? If the money is for me why did they have to link with me what is not.” More photos: http://www.firmtech1.com/2016/06/photos-zenith-bank-management-team-pay.html?m=0

Photo: Man bags 7year jail term for impersonation and obtaining by false pretence Gabriel Charles (pictured) was yesterday sentenced to seven years in prison, after he was found guilty of charges bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. Gabriel was arrested for posing as an operative of the Economic and Financial Ctomes Commission. Using this persona, he obtained money by false pretence from Dr. Precious Gbeneol, a former Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Abuja under the guise of helping her to close a supposed case brought against her. Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Apo, Abuja, found him guilty of the two-count charge brought against him by the EFCC amd sentenced him to six months in prison on count one and seven years in prison on count two without an option of fine. While the sentences are to run concurrently, Justice Kekemeke also ordered that he refund the N880, 000 collected to his victim. Police arrested two men who specialize in defrauding car dealers in Lagos by issuing fake bank cheques and fake bank alerts, Vanguard reports. The suspects were nabbed on Tuesday, June 21, when one of their victims raised the alarm when he discovered that an alert he got for the payment of the vehicle sold to the suspects was fake. According to Vanguard, prior to their arrest yesterday, the suspects, who claimed they were sent by their boss, had succeeded twice in issuing fake bank alerts and stealing cars from dealers at car marts. The victim identified as Ifeanyi became suspicious of the transaction after he allegedly received bank transaction alert for the payment of the vehicle. His suspicion paid off after his assistant, who was sent to the bank to confirm the payment, informed him that the said transaction did not reflect in their bank account. Another car dealer, who spoke in confidence, said yesterday was not the first time criminals were using fake bank alerts to purchase vehicles from the park and getting away with it. “God has exposed them today.” he said. “The last time it happened, the bank server was down so they just allowed them to go. Later we found out that it was a fake alert.” The suspects, who were almost lynched by the dealers, confessed to have succeeded with two vehicles sometime ago from the same New Way Park Berger, through same fraudulent method. They were later taken to the police station. Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the case was not reported at Kirikiri Police Division. Source: Vanguard

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi
Amaechi, has approved the report of
the Ministerial Committee on
modalities for the establishment of
the Nigerian fleet in the maritime
sector. Amaechi, while receiving the report of the committee in Abuja, pledged to provide the necessary instrument for the implementation of the recommendations of the committee. According to him, part of the fund to be used in the implementation of the report will come from the Cabotage Fund. The Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund was created by the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act 2003 to promote ship acquisition by supporting ship owners. Section 42, Part VIII of Section 44 of the Act empowers NIMASA to collect and administer the fund, under guidelines by the Minister of Transport, after approval by the National Assembly. Amaechi said: “Let me say that you are more serious than I am on this and that I will give you people the necessary instrument to implement it. “Part of the fund we will use is the Cabotage Fund.” The minister warned that the criteria for choosing who should benefit must be transparent. He said: “How do you choose those qualified to access the fund because in the 60 per cent you would have, I am sure that most of you will want to access the Cabotage money as part of your equity contribution. “If you are selfish, I will pull it out. “It means that I must not see your private interest. “You must ensure that everybody’s interest is involved, otherwise you will tear the maritime sector apart.” Amaechi directed that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council should commence the implementation of the report. Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Olu Akinsoji, said that the report provided three categories of maritime transportation that Nigeria could establish a shipping company. Akinsoji listed them as wet cargo, dry cargo, coastal/offshore support service and facilities. He said: “The road-map to the successful establishment of a Nigerian fleet is the implementation of this report as well as repositioning NIMASA. “Consequently, this report must not gather dust. “On our part, we have taken a bold step to advice the minister on the way forward by a simplified table of action plan and an associated graphic version. “The plan emphasised the need for the establishment of a Nigerian Fleet Implementation Committee.” Akinsoji said the committee noted significant barriers to the full realization of the objectives of establishing a sustainable Nigerian fleet. Former Presidential Adviser on
National Assembly Matters, Senator
Florence Ita-Giwa has reiterated her
earlier stand that she will only
consider mediating only with any
credible group in the Niger Delta with
the aim of ending the vandalism and
restiveness in the area. Ita-Giwa noted that she has no affiliation with any of the groups apart from being the leader of the Bakassi people under the aegis of the Bakassi General Assembly, a body collectively struggling to ensure the resettlement of my people. In a statement signed in Lagos, Ita- Giwa added that inasmuch as she is interested in any moves aimed at restoring peace and developments in the region, she would consider serving if the federal government is willing to engage in discussions with credible Nigerians who have genuine interest and sympathy for the people of the region. The statement read in part: My position is still the same and that is the fact that I will accept to mediate for any credible group and it is important to note that I do not have affiliation with any of these groups apart from my position as the political leader of the Bakassi people struggling along with other Bakassi people to ensure proper resettlement of my people. “Again, I will serve in order to put in place a lasting solution to the hostility, thereby bringing succour to the people of the region. “I shall also be willing to be part of the dialogue for the benefit of the people of the region and by extension, the numerous displaced Bakassi indigenes who have been neglected over the years,” she said. “As a major stakeholder and mother in the region and indeed Nigeria, I am willing to be party to any dialogue that will bring peace to the sufferings of the people of Niger Delta. http://www.firmtech1.com/2016/06/militancy-i-will-only-mediate-for.html?m=0
