Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, yesterday lauded Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko for transforming the Sunshine State.
The Minister said this at the inauguration of the state’s residency card initiative, known as Kaadi Igbe-ayo. He noted that Mimiko’s programmes in the last four years were in tandem with the welfare initiatives of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

He said, “During the build-up to the October 20, 2012 governorship election in the state, I wondered how some people, who boasted that they would uproot the Iroko would achieve their ambition by using just brooms.

“I thought they would bring bulldozers and caterpillars to cut down the Iroko in Ondo, but they smashed the deep rooted tree with mere brooms until the Iroko fell on them and smashed their brooms to shreds.”

Maku urged the people of the state to support the Mimiko’s led administration in order to ensure the success of its policies, which would make life meaningful for them.

He challenged Mimiko not to be excited by the commendations that greeted his first term but to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

A 31-year-old woman from Whitehall is behind bars after being accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the heart and killing him on the day that they were supposed to get married.
Officials from the District Attorney’s office say Nacola Franklin is charged with one count of criminal homicide in the stabbing death of 36-year-old Billy Brewster.


Investigators said police received a 911 call from 1580 Olympic Circle in Whitehall at 2:19 am on Saturday. When they arrived, Brewster was found in a second floor landing outside his apartment.
He had been stabbed twice and was taken to Lehigh County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just over an hour later.
Investigators said the couple lived together in the apartment. They were supposed to get married on that day. Police have not said what the motive was for the killing.

A grieving daughter unable to foot the cost of her mom’s burial slept next to her corpse for eight months, according to reports.
The gruesome living arrangement came to light on Thursday when bailiffs were sent to the apartment in Munich, Germany, to recover the now dead 70-year-old pensioner’s debts.
After being asked to see her mother, the unnamed 39-year-old told an appraiser that she had died in July 2012.
And she showed him the decomposing body that was lying on a sofa bed in the Moosach district home’s only bedroom to prove it.


The Local reports the daughter, who was living on unemployment benefits, did not know she could apply for $4,100 in state help to cover the funeral costs.
Cops said she’s been sectioned at a psychiatric facility by her own request.
Officers are now looking into whether the daughter was fraudulently claiming her mom’s pension during the period.
But they say they don’t believe that’s the reason why she harboured her lifeless body for so long, so it is unlikely she will be prosecuted.
