Minemrys: u are a weird one bro. How can one love series m0re than a m0vie? I doubt the dcau will be c0ntinued. The flash time travelling is to give a positive ending to a bleak resoluti0n. As for star girl, they better end at seas0n 2 if they kn0w they d0n't have stories to tell. Guy how far your book? Hope say you dey get sales? |

abduleez1: Really?? Or it is the deal Netflix made to retain it a year longer before exclusively going to HBOMax?
I know friends make a ton of money but 1 billion a year? Or you're confusing deals they made spanning a period of years(usually 4-5yrs) to use it's IP. If that's it then it would translate to around $250mn a year. Besides it's a series with a huge amount of seasons and boatload of episodes. Hence the size alone will increase its value. You can't compare such success with smaller titles.
Streaming and vod are only good when selling licensing to others for IP use. They turn profit in the long run but you can't compare it's profit margin with that of theater released features.
You can't compare profitability of films like Aquaman, Avengers movies, Joker in theaters to Streaming or VOD platforms. They cost huge money and their BO returns are huge (1 billion plus). You can't get that with vod. Vod takes a very long time to mature and generate such amount of money with time. I'm yet to even hear or see Vod get that capacity to generate a Billion from individual watchs or rewatch.
And what you are comparing is acquisition of IP rights and not actually money made from watch or rewatch of said movie on Video on Demand or Broadcast as compared to per tickets sales of movie in theaters.
If what you're saying is TRUE then why are studios losing their shits_ and postponing Big Budget movies instead of heading straight to Vod like their low budget counterparts?? Even WarnerMedia head Stankey said "Wonder Woman 1984 is a theatre must-release project and not vod, saying it can't match theater released film profitability". My brother, there is Google oooo. Check and confirm it yourself bro. |

Minemrys: yea, bt then again, s0me stories are better told in certain ways and 0n certain platforms. So stretching a darkseid story into layerz on televisi0n isn't creativity. Guy, go and watch Westworld. Then, come back. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 8:09pm On May 22, 2020 |
Minemrys: ehen na. I never thought any0ne would run out of stories for the flash, bt guess what? They did. What would u tell abt Uxas if it aint the c0nqueror arc? 0nce u finish, then in later seas0ns, u realize the writerz start shifting fr0m the main character and start focusing on other characters in a show abt darkseid. For instance the flash, arrow. Your concerns are from a certain perspective. However, Give HBO $100M - $150M and see if they will not deliver one of the greatest shows in comic's history with Uxas. You need to watch more series bro. |

Minemrys: friends is a show for alm0st all audiences. You can't c0mpare that with Uxas. A story is as good as you tell it. Warner Media has the best story tellers in abundance. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 5:03pm On May 22, 2020 |
Minemrys: dude, there are stories that d0n't work out well as series. I mean, what were they hoping to tell with inhumans? Same with a darkseid show. You'd run out of stories eventually and start filling it with fillers. Dare devil failed cos of the script and directi0n. Run out of stories for Darkseid? Guy na wa for you o. |

TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 10:25am On May 22, 2020 |
SMUAG: Nolan is good, but bro, you are overrating him. If Peter Jackson can't do LoTR in 2hours, I don't see how Nolan will do that. For me, Peter Jackson is way better than Christopher Nolan. Just my opinion. Both are good, infact extremely good. Together with James Cameron, they are Hollywood's Holy Trinity. They never go wrong with their interpretation of movies. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 10:21am On May 22, 2020 |
abduleez1: Nope I don't buy that idea. There are various and numerous comic characters and various level of importance and popularity. Some don't belong in the small screen, while some are definitely well suited for the Big screen. Characters like Uxas you don't really need a tv series character development style to know what he basically IS. Same for Supes, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman etc.
Being a theater film doesn't really translate to poorer character devt, it all depends on the writing, direction and portrayal. Besides for character devt that's why you got sequels or prequels to handle that.
The public reach of Big screen release is also far greater than series. Also profitability on big screen has many positive potentials over series. Guy, Warner Bros still makes $1billion a year from the series "Friends" which ended 15yrs ago. The casts of the show still earn an estimated $20m every year from the shows reruns and Licensing agreement. Please, know your facts before talking about profitability. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 10:13am On May 22, 2020 |
Minemrys: to me, the perfect number for a series to c0mplete its arc is 8 seas0ns of a 10episode run. Cos to be h0nest, the other epis0des are fillers that s0on bec0me plotholes. That's why i love how to get away with murder. Lol.... How to get away with murder. Started out well, then turned to bunkers. |
TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 10:10am On May 22, 2020 |
Minemrys: bros, what story do u want to tell about Uxas in a series? His love life, family or what? U can do this in a 2 hour story bro. Do u kn0w why inhumans failed as a series? Cos s0me stories aren't meant to be stretched. No, inhumans failed because it was a shïtshow. Eew, have you watched the show? From graphics to VFX to characteristion to choice of location were absolute garbage biko. I Stopped watching it after the first episode! Dare-Devil failed as a big budget movie but succeeded as one of the best comics TV series ever produced. So guy forget, it doesn't matter if it's on Cinema or small screen, a good film sells itself. What decides everything is the money to be made. Green Lantern is coming to TV.

abduleez1: I'm not saying that but honestly using Darkseid in tv would be inefficient and underused.
For the backstory and devt of Darkseid's backstory, that's the reason we are getting NEW GODS. It's to be directed by Ava Duvernay. We are putting some real good confidence in female Directors— I like it.
After New Gods have been introduced on the Big screen, sequels would prep for a big Event movie, probably under the Justice League banner. That's a good development which I already applauded in the past. Remember however, that i only used him as an example. |

Are you saying that Darkseids backstory cannot be developed on the small screen for an eventual Box Office big budget movie? My point here is, there is nothing stopping DC from doing a mini-series/full series on him this year before they release a big budget movie in the cinema with him as the big baddie... it's exactly what Marvel did with Thanos, but they did it with 20 movies instead. It's same principle, just different execution. Not everyone reads comics, and so not everyone will understand comics movies in the same way. Take a look at Green Arrow for instance. He became a household name here in Nigeria through a series... |

Minemrys: u kn0w why i hate series? Alot of it are filler. They over stretch stories that are unimp0rtant and atimes seas0ns eg the walking dead. S0metimes the writerz get c0nfused down the line. We share same dislike @bolded. However, i don't watch series longer than 10-13 episodes. There are exceptions though, like Viking's and Supernatural, but i stopped watching Supernatural too at some point cuz of same issue. Series from HBO, NETFLIX, BBC, FX, STARZ, SYFY, EPIC, CINEMAX, AMAZON, HULU, are mostly 6 - 10 episodes most of the time. I think it's mostly NBC, FOX, CW and ABC Studio's that overstretch series unnecessarily. |

abduleez1: It was a pretty slow burn, I almost got tired of it. it eventually came alive at the tail end— last 3 episodes. But it didn't get much publicity and hype except for the fact of the big leads Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne. Most people didn't even talk about it in the series thread.
Yep, I know of the BIG budget LOTR series Coming to Amazon, honestly I can't wait for it. They paid really huge sum to gain rights to the IP.
DIDN'T know Man in High Castle was that big. I was also disappointed with that Carnival Row...the series was all talks and no action. So much for the hype!!! Yeah, Man in the High Castle was a big one for Amazon, brought in a lot of subscribers for them, and the series lived up to expectations. |

pu7pl3: Maybe but it's not a bad thing to want your character fleshed out..some people still prefer movies tho like me
If you can remember I told you the only series I had ever watched was GOT, I only just started watching series when I joined this thread and all of them have been superhero series...I dont need toomany to see toomany scenes of a character to make them feel relatable or built up A lot of people prefer it the same way as you do too. I'm the one that made my siblings love series too cuz they too prefer one off movies. It's just that i prefer well rounded stories, not the one dimensional clusters that is prevalent in BO movies. Box Office is now used mainly for flicks and VFX... |

TV/Movies › Re: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by philfearon(m): 9:13pm On May 21, 2020 |
Minemrys: dude, n0lan would find a way to do seas0n 1 of GOT in 2 hours. It's abt kn0wing what u want to tell, how to tell it and achieve it. GOT was fr0m a b0ok, guy. And u are telling me N0lan can't adapt a b0ok into a 2hour film? He did incepti0n that had many characterz in it and was able to tell a story. How abt TDK. Lord of the rings is one film i find unnecessarily l0ng and would've benefitd fr0m a 2hr run time.. He could...but will the characters be as developed? That's my point bro, character development. There are a lot of things he will be forced to cut off because of runtime. |
