Health / No More Ebola Virus In Nigeria, Health Minister Declares by Philtrik(m): 9:36am On Sep 24, 2014
The Minister of Health in Nigeria, Onyebuchi Chukwu has revealed that Nigeria is completely free of active Ebola cases, adding that all contacts of the deadly disease have been released from surveillance.

Chukwu made this disclosure on Tuesday, 23 September, 2014, at the United Nations General Assembly holding in New York, USA.

Th UN meeting, comprising of all 193 members of the UN meet in New York to among other things discuss on ways to halt the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) ravaging West African countries.

This is more than two months since the index case, the late Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-America imported the deadly virus into Lagos while on a trip for a meeting of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS) in Calabar on 23 July.
According to the minister: “Presently, there is no single case of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria – none. No cases are under treatment, no suspected cases. There are no contacts in Lagos that are still under surveillance, having completed a minimum of 21 days of observation.

Onyebuchi Chukwu
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu
“None of them are showing any symptoms. Monday (22 September 2014) will mark the end of their 21 days of observation and the plan is to get them discharged from surveillance yesterday (Tuesday 23 September 2014). Nigeria will be as clean as any other country as far as Ebola virus disease is concerned.”

Prior to Chukwu’s revelation, Rivers State had been home to over 400 contacts under medical surveillance. As of Monday night, only 25 contacts remained. The deadly disease was contained in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub and Port Harcourt.

Nigeria suffered only 21 Ebola cases with seven deaths recorded after the late Sawyer imported the deadly virus into the country.
Meanwhile, Chukwu added that as Nigeria has been able to successfully contain the virus, preventing stigmatization of Ebola survivors is still a challenge.
“Three terms became part of our lexicon: surveillance, quarantine, and isolation. Surveillance is sort of like house arrest. You don’t criminalize them. The person is actually a victim, not a criminal. We monitor their movements, the rest of the family are counselled about what contact can and can’t be done. We have contact with them every day. You can imagine what this effort must have been like when we had 300 in Lagos and over 400 in Port Harcourt.

“That is the first time we are denying that individual the comfort of his own bed. We put him in separately from the isolation ward from those who are confirmed. If malaria, we discharge them to their doctor to be treated for malaria,” the minister explained.

Chukwu also praised the Director General of the World Health Organisation, WHO, Margaret Chan for sending physicians to Nigeria.

Politics / The US Just Started Bombing Syria. This Syrian Man Is Live-tweeting The Strikes by Philtrik(m): 11:12am On Sep 23, 2014
The US is now launching its first-ever air strikes in Syria against the terrorist group ISIS, the Pentagon announced at about 9:30 pm EST, revealing that the US military is "using a mix of fighter, bomber, and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles" along with the air forces of Middle Eastern allies.
.
But the news was actually broken 30 minutes earlier by a Syrian Twitter user in the city of Raqqa, where ISIS has its headquarters, who heard the strikes and speculated — correctly, it turned out — that this was the beginning of the American air campaign. The Twitter user, named Abdulkader Hariri, posted that "massive" explosions had rocked ISIS headquarters, and that the skies were full of war planes and drones. Here are his tweets, which are chilling to read:
.
Breaking: Huge explosions shook the city in what might be the beginning of US airstrikes on ISIS HQs in Raqqa— Abdulkader Hariri (@3bdUlkaed6r) September 23, 2014
.
The airstrikes 5/6 concentrated near the 'governorate building' ISIS's main HQ. Meanwhile, sounds of warplanes can be heard clearly— Abdulkader Hariri (@3bdUlkaed6r) September 23, 2014
.
The sky is full drones over Raqqa now— Abdulkader Hariri (@3bdUlkaed6r) September 23, 2014
.
Reports of similar airstrikes on Tabga town and brigade 93 in Ein Essa.— Abdulkader Hariri (@3bdUlkaed6r) September 23, 2014
.
The air strikes are a major escalation for the United States against ISIS, which has effectively erased much of the border between Iraq, where the US has been bombing it for weeks, and Syria, where Obama has been more reticent to intervene. Here also is an eerie video, quickly posted by the Syrian activist news agency Step, that purports to show those first strikes over Raqqa.
.
These tweets and videos, posted by Syrian activists bearing witness to American strikes in their backyards, are only going to get more common as the US air campaign accelerates.
.
The US is bombing Syria to destroy ISIS.

1. Nobody can create a
FOLDER anywhere on the Computer which can be named as CON. This
is something funny and inexplicable?
At Microsoft the whole Team, couldn’t answer why this happened!
TRY IT NOW, IT WILL NOT CREATE
A “CON” FOLDER.
After Trying it, I thought it’s
Impossible to Create a Folder with 3
letters but i was able to create many Folders with just 3 letters but CON,
No way.
.
2. Again this is something funny and
can’t be explained? At Microsoft the
whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn’t answer why this happened! It was discovered by a Brazilian Programmer. Try it out yourself. Open Microsoft Word and type =rand(200,99) And
then press ENTER, Wait and see what happens!
Is this a Bug or What?
.
3. A flight
number from one of the planes that
hit one of the two WTC towers in U.S
by Osama on 9/11 was Q33N. In Microsoft
Word, type that flight number i.e Q33N.
Increase the font size to 72 then Change the font to Wingdings,
You will be amazed by the Findings, You should see the Picture of a Plane, 2 Tower Building and a Symbol
meaning Danger.
This has actually been in existence even before the
Incident. Microsoft should be able to
explain this.
Am sure by now, You should be
looking for your PC/Laptop to Try
them Out..

Health / Former Nigerian Head Of State Ibrahim Babangida Hospitalized In Germany by Philtrik(m): 8:38pm On Sep 21, 2014
Former Nigerian Head of state and Military dictator, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has been hospitalized in Germany.

Sahara Reporter made it known that the former leader was rushed to Germany 10 days ago after he became ill. He was said to have been moved from his hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger State out of the country in desperate need of prompt and adequate health attention.

However, President Goodluck Jonathan, who was earlier reported to have departed Nigeria for the annual United Nations General Assembly, is billed to pay the ailing general later today in Germany.

A press statement released from the President’s office earlier today, Mr. Jonathan’s handlers reveals that he plans to spend one day for a private visit in London, this was said to be in disguise of paying the former Military leader a secret visit, according to Sahara Reporter.

It was however made known that IBB, as the former General leader is popularly called, is down with ailment relating to a chronic back ailment which he earlier had surgery in Germany, making him to be seriously ill although a friend of the former dictator who was trying to make the illness look less important and not so serious said he is “getting better.”

It would be recalled that just recently, members of the National Assembly blamed the regime of former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida, for the poor performance of the Nigerian Armed Forces in their fight against the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.

4. Radioactive Remains Found in Ancient Cities
harappa

In Harrapa and Mohenjo-Daro, radiation levels are so high in the ruins that people theorize that an atomic bomb explosion around 1500 BCE killed the population. Many people believe this to be ridiculous, and the theories are full of pseudoscience, but people still argue over it.

3. The Voynich Manuscript
This has been proven as an authentic manuscript from the Middle Ages, but no one has been able to accurately decipher it. It is believed to be a medical book, however. Itt has become one of the most famous cases in the history of cryptography.
.
2. Antikythera Mechanism
This mechanism from the Hellenistic Period is an ancient analog “computer” that was designed to predict astronomical positions and eclipses. The mystery surrounding it, though, is that nothing this complex was made until centuries later. What happened to the technology?
.
1. Bermuda Triangle
Over the past centuries, many ships and air planes have disappeared or met with fatal accidents in the triangular area on Atlantic known as Bermuda Triangle. In several cases, no trace of the ships and aircraft has been found after the disappearances even after having done thorough search operations in an around the ocean area where such incidents took place.
The most frustrating thing about these discoveries and myths is that no matter how much scientific research is done, we will never know for certain what happened. This mystery is a wonderful part of life, but also frustrating.

Science/Technology / 10 Mysteries That Science Can't Explain by Philtrik(m): 11:50am On Sep 04, 2014
Human civilization has been on the Earth for a long time (and the Earth was around for even longer than that).
So it would make sense that there are mysteries surrounding ancient civilizations… so much happened, yet we have documentation of what or why.

Here are 10 mysterious and strange discoveries made in archaeology. Science has yet to fully explain them (or if it has, there is plenty of room for doubt). It’s hard to speculate as to the truth of the situation, but it’s also impossible to dismiss them as hoaxes.
.
10. Interlocking Stones at Puma
In Bolivia, there is a large temple complex that includes perfectly interlocking stones from the Inca civilisation. In Inca traditions because it is believed to be the site where the world was created. This stonework is so precise, it’s unknown how it was possibly built so long ago.
.
9. Baghdad Battery
A few of these items have been found, also referred to as the Parthian Battery. These terra-cotta pots were created in Mesopotamia and seem to have copper and iron inside, creating a basic battery if there were electrolytes present.
.
8. Co-Existing Dinosaur & Human Prints
dinotopia-2-huge
Although many of these fossils were proven to be faked, there are some samples of human and dinosaur fossil footprints found together in the same ancient rock layer that are a mystery. If they were real, this would disrupt the theory of evolution.
.
7. Crystal Skulls
These are carvings made of clear or white quartz and they are allegedly pre-Columbian Mesoamerican artifacts (Aztec or Maya civilizations). There are no rudimentary carving markings though, making it difficult to determine if they really are ancient artifacts… possibly possessing powers.
.
6. The Magnetic Hill Of Ladakh
Have you ever heard of a place on earth that defies gravity? unbelievable, is it? Nestled in the lap of snow caped Himalayan ranges and silver valleys, Ladakh in India has a Magnetic hill where a vehicle moves up a steep hill even with their ignition off. The Magnetic hill or Gravity Hill is situated at a distance of 30 km from the capital city Leh and is located on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik national highway, at a height of 14,000 feet above sea level.
.
5. Ancient Flying Machines
ancient-flying
These small models depict small flying crafts or airplanes. However, lighter-than-air flight wasn’t accomplished until the 1780s. So how did ancient civilizations know enough about flying to make models and sketches of flying machines?

Health / Japan Develops 30-minute Ebola Detector by Philtrik(m): 10:43pm On Sep 03, 2014
Japan Develops 30-Minute Ebola Detector.

Following the upsurge in the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in West Africa, Japanese researchers say they have developed a new method to detect the presence of the deadly disease in 30 minutes.
.
According to Professor Jiro Yasuda and his team at Nagasaki University, the new technology they developed could allow doctors to quickly diagnose infection of the Ebola virus.
.
Representational image
The team also stated that their process is also cheaper than the system currently in use in West Africa where the virus has already killed more than 1552 people, according to the World Health Organisation, WHO.
.
“The new method is simpler than the current one and can be used in countries where expensive testing equipment is not available,” Yasuda told AFP by telephone.
“We have yet to receive any questions or requests, but we are pleased to offer the system, which is ready to go,” he said.
Yasuda said the team had developed what he called a “primer”, which amplifies only those genes specific to the Ebola virus found in a blood sample or other bodily fluid.
.
Using existing techniques, ribonucleic acid (RNA) – biological molecules used in the coding of genes – is extracted from any viruses present in a blood sample.
.
This is then used to synthesise the viral DNA, which can be mixed with the primers and then heated to 60C to 65C.
If Ebola is present, DNA specific to the virus is amplified in 30 minutes because of the action of the primers. The by-products from the process cause the liquid to become cloudy, providing visual confirmation, Yasuda said.
It was gathered that a method called polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, is currently widely used to detect the Ebola virus, which requires doctors to heat and cool samples repeatedly and takes up to two hours.
.
“The new method only needs a small, battery-powered warmer and the entire system costs just tens of thousands of yen (hundreds of dollars), which developing countries should be able to afford,” he added.

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, Isco; James, Bale, Benzema.

Real Sociedad (4-3-3): Zubikarai; Zaldua, I. Martinez, Elustondo, De la Bella; Markel, Granero, Zurutuza; Chory Castro, Prieto, Agirretxe.

No prizes for guessing the biggest news to come out of those line-ups. Cristiano Ronaldo is indeed injured and does not make the squad tonight as he looks to fully recover from the knee problem that has plagued him in recent months. Isco comes into the starting XI.
