Politics › IPOB : Kanu Not Begging For Freedom. Thisday. by PhockPhockMan(op): 4:37pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
By Emmanuel Ugwu The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) Thursday clarified what it considered a misinterpretation of the petition that its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu sent to the British government over his travails in the hands of Nigerian government.
Head of IPOB media and publicity, Comrade Emma Powerful, cleared the air in a telephone chat with our correspondent, saying that Kanu “is not begging to be released” even though his freedom has been circumscribed since October 14, 2015.
He said that it was necessary for IPOB to make it known to the whole world that Kanu only wrote to the British authorities as a bona fide citizen to formally notify them of his “persecution” in the hands of the Nigerian government.
Powerful explained that since Kanu is a British citizen the authorities of that nation is under obligation to take action to protect its citizen who is in trouble hence it was wrong for Kanu’s petition to be misconstrued as pleading to be freed from detention.
In the petition dated March 24, 2016, written by Kanu through his counsel, Hon Ifeanyi Ejiofor the detained Radio Biafra director said he was “a victim of travesty of justice” and therefore called for the British government to be on the watch” on the progress in charge No: FCT/ABJ/CR/383/15.
“it is repeating the obvious to state that our client is a full British citizen by virtue of which position he is entitled to al rights, privileges and protections guaranteed under the British laws and conventions http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/03/31/ipob-kanu-not-begging-for-freedom/

Ekiti State House of Assembly has directed all their members not to honour any invitation from the security agency for their safety. The assembly at a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, said the manner by which Hon Akanni was detained for18 days without cogent reasons gave credence to the widespread insinuation that the agency was being used by the All Progressives Congress to forcefully impeach Governor Fayose. The Speaker, Hon Kola Oluwawole, said the House had resolved that members should shun any invitation from the DSS, saying they have it from the grapevine that they are still after some of their members over spurious allegations. “We are lawmakers and not law breakers. If the DSS has started on a good note, we would have cooperated. But going by the questions posed to Hon Akanni during interrogation as to why he was resisting Fayose’s impeachment shows that they have sinister motives. “We have collectively resolved that based on that suspicion, we may not be able to honour any invitation by DSS because of our safety”. A speech read by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, praised the National Assembly, traditional rulers and concerned Nigerians for their swift response, leading to the release of Hon Akanni. Hon. Afolabi Akanni was freed from the custody of the Department of State Security Services last Friday. Aside from Akanni, the assembly announced that the trio of Hons Musa Arogundade, Badejo Anifowose and Sina Animasaun, who had gone underground since March 4, when some DSS allegedly invaded the assembly complex, had resurfaced from hiding and had reunited with members for legislative duties. Aribisogan advised the DSS to stop subjecting the lawmakers to unnecessary trauma, saying what they were made to pass through during the trying period didn’t portray Nigeria as a democratic and civilised nation. http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/03/Don-t-honour-DSS-invitation-again-Ekiti-Assembly-directs-members/ |

Abagworo: APC has been playing Mr Nice Guy which I don't support. They should stop worrying about people voting and just announce whatever result they please. That was what PDP did in Rivers State and Abia State in 2015. People's vote never counts. I'm disappointed in you, why are you revealing the secret behind Okorocha's victory in 2015? You claim to be in Imo State, yet you know 100% all that happened in Rivers and Abia. Why are you people so pained that APC had a disastrous outing in Rivers state. Where do you people expect the votes that will make APC win. With woeful performance of APC in all tiers of government, I can tell you with confidence that PDP is now a valuable instrument in the hands of the people to sweep out APC and their atrocious government. Just look at the disaster Okorocha's government has turned out to be in once glamorous Imo State, my beloved state. In 2019, you will have a lot of reasons to cry to high heaven because, APC will never smell DOUGLAS HOUSE again. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. |

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over the non-release of outstanding results of the March 19 Rivers State and National Assembly rerun elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) .
In the results so far declared by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, the PDP cleared three federal constituencies, but shared two state constituency seats with its main rival, the All Progressives Congress.
While speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, the Deputy National chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, alleged that the electoral body was taking instructions from the ruling party on what to do with the outcome of the Rivers rerun which he claimed his party won overwhelmingly .
Secondus said:” Now in Rivers, because PDP won all the election despite the intimidation by the military, the results are being released piecemeal because APC has failed woefully in all the constituencies.”
The PDP chairman, who accused INEC of turning itself to a parastatal of the APC further alleged that the Commission has not fixed a date for fresh election because it was waiting for instruction from APC.
“They haven’t fixed a date for rerun because of APC. INEC is now being supervised by the leadership of APC and the Buhari administration.”
” They are no longer independent and we are losing confidence in INEC. In the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) election date was announced but suddenly because they knew APC was going to lose and because of that, they postponed the election after we had spent money and time.
” All these show that INEC is now a parastatal of APC. The danger is that this current leadership that will conduct the general elections in 2019 has been compromised . http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/03/30/rivers-rerun-inec-favouring-apc-pdp-alleges/

Longeria: SEE KANU'S LETTER TO BRITAIN
24th March, 2016. The High Commissioner, British High Commission, Abuja 19 Torrens Close Maitama, Abuja.
Dear Sir,
RE: FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA VS NNAMDI KANU & 2 ORS CHARGE NO: FCT/ABJ/CR/383/15
NNAMDI KANU: A VICTIM OF TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE AND A CALL FOR THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT TO BE ON THE WATCH.
We are Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the 1st Defendant in the above captioned criminal charge, hereinafter refers to as “Our Client”, and on whose authority and firm instruction, we formally bring to the attention of the British Government the deliberate design by the Nigerian Government to subvert the course of justice in the above criminal trial.
It is repeating the obvious to state that Our Client is a full British citizen, by virtue of which position he is entitled to all Rights, Privileges and Protections, guaranteed under the British Laws and conventions. We are therefore constrained in the circumstance, to formally notify the British Government vide this medium, of our well informed reservations, and apprehension, that Our Client is undergoing persecution in the charge above referred, and deliberate design by the persecutors to frustrate every effort of the Defense team aimed at giving Our Client a fair trial.
We are not under any illusion that the British Government has taken notice of the highlights in the presidential media chat granted by President Muhammed Buhari on the 30th day of December 2015. Prominent among his worrisome but most prejudicial comments in the said media chat, is his insistence, that Our Client cannot be granted bail by any Court. The President in the referenced media chat, referred to Our client as a flight risk for possessing dual citizenship. It is the position of our Law, that dual citizenship is a constitutional right of the citizens of Nigeria, clearly provided for under section 28 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended 2011. Dual citizenship is not a crime under our Law. Our reservations on the President’s comment was underpinned by the findings made in the ruling delivered on the 29th day of February 2016, by Hon. Justice John Tsoho, wherein Our Client and the two other Defendants were denied bail.
The learned Judge, in advancing his reasons for arriving at the decision, and in consistence with the direction conveyed in the aforesaid media chat, specifically referred to Our Client as a flight risk, on grounds of his dual citizenship, and on the basis of which he denied him bail. It is apposite in the circumstance to remind the British Government, that Judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria are appointed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in line with the provisions of Section 250(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended 2011. This Section provide thus;
Section 250; APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF JUDGE AND JUDGES OF THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT 250(2)
“The appointment of a person to the office of a Judge of the Federal High Court shall be made by the President on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.” We therefore submit, most respectfully Sir that by virtue of the powers conferred on the President in the above cited Law, the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammed Buhari, has overriding control over the appointment of the Federal High Court Judges. The learned trial Judge in denying Our Client bail on the 29th day of January, 2016, granted accelerated hearing of the substantive charge. Accelerated hearing ordered by the learned presiding Judge in the matter connotes total annihilation of all forms of delay in the trial intended to debilitate the tenets of fair hearing.
Also, instructive to mention, that the Court is under duty to allow the Defendants unfettered access to relevant materials and facilities that will aid them in the defense of their case. This duty is not only sacrosanct and compelling, but is provided for under Chapter (iv) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as (Amended) 2011, particularly in section 36(6) (b), among the fundamental rights of the citizens. In the course of our defense, We are usually confronted with situation where we are handed the short end of the stick in the face of deliberate refusal/delay in obliging us copies of the Ruling delivered in open Court.
The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended (2011), specifically section 36(7), allows a Court or Tribunal, only seven days, in a criminal trial, to keep records of the proceedings, Rulings and Judgment delivered therein, within which, it shall be made available to the Accused person(s) or person applying through him.
It is disheartening, that our successive applications for the certified true copies of Rulings delivered by the Honourable Court, on the 9th February 2016, 19th February 2016, and 7th March 2016, have not receive any attention. Either by deliberate design or omission, the Rulings, above referred, are still being shielded from us as at today. It is more painful, when it comes to mind that these Rulings are not only fundamental but a necessity to a successful transmission of records of the Court to the Appellate Court.
The Court has always been served with copies of our Notices of Appeal, anytime an application for the certified true copy of the Ruling is submitted, which ordinarily, would have spurred it for expeditious action but the reverse is usually the case. On the face of this frustration, the defense is confronted with apparent dilemma in offering our client the best legal services he deserved, in the defense of these bogus charges preferred against him.
The Application brought by the Federal Government of Nigeria, requesting the Court to protect the identities of the prosecution witnesses by the aid of facial masks and screens while giving evidence in the course of proceeding, was heard on the 19th day of February 2016. Upon the hearing of the aforesaid application, and our objection, the Court declined to grant the application, and consequently ordered that the hearing of the matter should be conducted in the open. Members of the public and press were also ordered by the Court to continue to participate in the proceedings. Surprisingly, on the 7th day of March, 2016, when the trial was scheduled to commence, the Director of Public Prosecutions orally applied that the subsisting order of the Honourable Court, made on the 19th day of February, 2016, be varied. The Learned D.P.P, insisted that the prosecution witnesses have refused to attend Court to give evidence, unless their identities are shielded from the public. On the strength of the above application, and despite our vehement opposition to the application, the Honourable Court made a volte-face, and proceeded to grant their request, by varying the very order it made on the 19th day of February, 2016.
Though we have successfully lodged an appeal against this perverse ruling of the Honourable Court, but it is now incumbent on the British Authority to turn their torchlight on the process complained of, against the obvious persecution of its own citizen. Relevant to mention that the detail accounts provided by our Client in his vicious experience in the hands of the operatives of the State Security Services while in their custody, revealed how the investigating officers boasted to him that the British Government was instrumental to his arrest and dare him to watch out for future development in the matter. It is therefore, our humble expectation that the demonstration of palpable commitment by the British Government will to a larger extent neutralize the concerns and fears raised by the remark under reference. It is on the strength of this obvious maneuvering and deliberate design to subvert the course of justice that we most humbly request the British authority to begin a race against time, for more noticeable impact in this matter. Attached herewith for your ease of reference, are copies of our press briefing granted on the 18th day of March 2016, Certificates of registration of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Radio Biafra respectively, in the United Kingdom Registration certificates of Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) in other countries of the world, and video clips of how the Nigeria Military personnel massacred innocent and Defenseless members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Aba-Abia State, on the 9th day of February 2016.
We shall keep you abreast of every development in this matter as we progress.
Accept the assurances of our deepest regards Sir.
Yours faithfully

INEC Releases Latest Poll Results From #riversrerun Election. SNAPSHOT.
The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) released the latest poll results from the Rivers State rerun election today. The Rivers State rerun election on March 19th had systematic security challenges and violence forcing INEC to cancel some electoral exercises. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Rivers State Aniedi Ikoiwak, who issued a statement with the poll results, said “some of the State/Federal Constituencies and Senatorial seats are inconclusive as a result of reports of election cancellations and elections not conducted for reasons of serious violence in some units.” He added that a “new date to conduct [the remaining polls] will be communicated to the public after due consultation with the Stateholders.” According to Mr. Ikoiwak a total of eleven State constituency and four Federal constituency results have been declared by INEC to date. http://saharareporters.com/2016/03/29/inec-releases-latest-poll-results-riversrerun-election

While Western authorities remain “decidedly muted” over the liberation of the ancient city of Palmyra from Daesh terrorists, many Western readers have lavished their admiration on the UNESCO site's liberators when commenting on dry factual articles. Sputnik has compiled a small number of these readers' responses.
While Western journalists wonder why their Western leaders “appear unenthusiastic” over the biggest military defeat of Daesh militants in Syria so far, their readers aren't concealing their admiration of those who fought to liberate the ancient city of Palmyra.
Comments in the US media:
Los Angeles Times
"Dilemma indeed. How to explain to the American public that the US really didn't oppose IS because the US thought IS would deliver the coup de grace to the Syrian government? Instead, IS will soon be driven from Syria by the Syrian Arab Army backed by Russian air power Meanwhile, the CIA backed mercenaries and the Pentagon backed mercenaries are fighting each other in the small corner of northwest Syria not yet controlled by the Syrian government.
No doubt telling the truth will not be an option. Instead we will get more phony 'narratives' duly conveyed by the LAT and other mainstream outlets."
"It took a real man like Putin, in a country that still knows right from wrong, Russia, to solve the Syrian war."
Wall Street Journal
"I wonder if this means the Syrian civil war is once again at risk of ending? If so, what measures can we take to ensure it continues?…the irony here is that it's not clear that I'm being sarcastic. Many here would post the above or close to it in all seriousness."
"Since Putin got involved the situation gets worse for IS! LOL, and Obama said that Putin will leave defeated! O tries to claim to be part of Putin's success now!"
"The USG won't give up its bad habit of overthrowing elected governments it doesn't like. Regime change is one of those euphemisms to muddy the waters, as if calling an elected government a 'regime' legitimizes illegal US aggression against them. Russia has waged a serious war against ISIS in Syria, and against the US-armed, trained and supported groups, many of them affiliated in one way or another with the terrorists and all acting as a proxy US army to bring down Assad. The US goal has never been to stop ISIS, only to show it can still pick and choose other people's governments."
"The advance by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces showed how reliant the regime remains on help from Russia, which said Sunday that its warplanes had hit more than 100 targets over 24 hours in the vicinity of Palmyra.
Putin is killing Islamic State terrorists. That's a good thing. This is how it's done Obama, 100 bombs in one day."
Comments in the UK media:
Daily Express
"The West owes Putin a debt of gratitude."
"This is the difference. Obama supports, arms and then apologises for terrorists. Putin destroys them."
"Had the west supported Syria and Assad, Palmyra would still be intact, there would be no drownings, EU would be safer and refugees would still be living at home. Our foreign policy is a foreign disaster."
"Well done Putin. He has the 'balls' that Cameron and the EU politburo lack."
"Who would you most trust to fight and protect the interests of your country — Cameron, Obama, or Putin? Bit of a no brainer really isn't it."
Daily Mail
"America could take some Tips from the Russians.. They get the job done."
"Putin has invited Western countries to assist in the de-mining and cleanup of Palmyra; whether the West does or does not assist it's another public relations coup for the Russian President. Come on Obama, Kerry, Cameron and Hammond, it`s time to call it a day and tell your Wall St bosses that the game is over, and you've LOST."
The Independent
"I could not help but smile when I read that the US command claimed two air strikes against Isis around Palmyra in the days leading up to its recapture by the regime. That really did tell you all you needed to know about the American 'war on terror'. They wanted to destroy Isis, but not that much."
"It is not only Dave that has been quiet, the whole western media have been quiet about it as well. Now if the Americans had liberated Palmyra,it would be front page news, story after story but because it is the Syrians, Hizbollah, Iran and the Russians, it is hardly mentioned. Just goes to show who runs the media in the west."
"ISIS is a 100% western creation, to give the West reason for continuous military presence in the region, for decades to come. That *was* their plan. Now let them mess with Russia if they have the nerve: Turkish F-16 haven't even taken off, since the day the S400's became operational in Northern Syria…"
"Shame that the West Media does not allow its readers access to the true story…"
"The silence of Western leaders over the recapturing of Palmyra is for the same reason the allies during WW2 never once bombed the tracks that took millions of people to the Nazi death camps. Vested class interests. From Standard Oil, Ford, ITT, Coca Cola to IBM, to name a few, that kept the war going.
ISIS is a creation of Western imperialism; oil, political power and profits are the basis of the present silence. The same reason why Turkey keeps the border open with Syria – oil deals with ISIS. For them it's business as usual. The point is us and our response in how we protect our own class interests." An eye opener. Thanks. |

Like new clothes getting used to the body, a new way of making money through the sale of new-born babies and child-trafficking is gradually being perfected across the country in different dimensions. The racket of mating young girls and boys to “produce” children for sale to desperate buyers is fast gaining prominence not only in the South-East but also in the South-West. Operators of the homes and their syndicates usually scout for teenagers or other classes of females with unwanted pregnancies or yoked with inordinate desire for materialism, who they lure to their herbal clinic for delivery. If this category may find rationalisation in today’s world of freedom of anything, even to be in chains, some syndicates, however, do not need the interference of providence in their trade, so they simply recruit some teenagers, who are then impregnated by their male syndicate members, and kept hostage throughout the gestation period. Thereafter, the owner of the home pays them off and, at a negotiated price, hands the babies to the desperate childless women who patronise the herbal clinic for fruits of the womb or to other shades of clients for their nefarious ends. Investigations revealed that the patrons of these homes are high-heeled and well-to-do couples who visit mostly at night in sleek automobiles. The business is now common in South-Western Nigeria, especially in Ondo State, as the traffickers smile to banks every day. In Ondo State, child-trafficking is now common unlike in the past when it is regarded as not only a crime to humanity but also to God. Of recent, over 10 cases of child-trafficking have been reported and handled by relevant security agencies in the state. These included the two suspected Camerounian ladies, Ngala Nungu and Mrs. Mende Cecilia, who were arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Calabar seaport for allegedly stealing a five-day-old baby girl. Nungu claimed that she delivered the baby at Okitipupa through the help of a lady who specialises in herbal medicine. Interestingly, some individuals who specialise in this unwholesome act told The AUTHORITY that they do not deserve to be punished since they help to satisfy people’s needs. Among them is the Chairman of prostitutes in Ondo State, Ms. Rose Ojeme, who told journalists when she was arrested in January that she was into the business to make a living and that she gets over N50,000 per month through the business. In January, 24 suspects were arrested in Ilu-Titun in Okitipupa Council Area of the state by the NIS state command. Also in the same month, the state command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) apprehended two women traffickers who specialise in bringing under-aged girls from South-Eastern Nigeria to Akure, the Ondo State capital, for prostitution. According to NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. Ayinla Olayinka, the two traffickers were arrested at a hotel in Akure, where the evil acts were being perpetrated. Ayinla disclosed that the two were in the business of bringing under-aged girls into the state for prostitution in the pretext of engaging them in legitimate work. The two teenagers - 16 and 17 years respectively – were said to have been brought from Akwa Ibom State and were locked up in different rooms by their managers, who let in on them various men of low esteem to have a fill of their carnal lust for a fee. Confessing to the crime, Ojeme and her deputy, Mrs. Susan John, said they were only helping the two girls to meet with their needs, adding that they were only “hustling’ to make a living instead of stealing. Meanwhile, one of the rescued teenagers disclosed to newsmen that five men were having sex with them daily, but that the “rent” was going to their Chairman, Ojeme. Narrating the pathetic story of her bungled search for greener pastures, she said: “We followed a friend to Akure from Ikom, Akwa Ibom State, to Akure on a promise to be working in a supermarket, but we were lured into prostitution on getting here after we had been locked up. Five or six men would have sex with me every day. For instance, every Friday, six men will sleep with me and N6,000 will be paid to madam, while on Saturdays five men must have sex with me and the money paid to madam.” Another case of child-trafficking took place last week when 17-year-old Tessy Obianu was nabbed by the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for allegedly selling her baby to a couple in Onitsha, Anambra State, for N500,000. Her action, according to the police, was influenced by a specialised child-trafficker, a certain Mrs. Chibuzor Okoye, who allegedly convinced her to sell the baby to Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Kalu, who were desperately in need of a baby. The police command’s image maker, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the agency was tipped off on the crime when Tessy’s father, Mr. Henry Obianu, who lives at Ogbese in Akure, reported that her daughter was missing with her pregnancy. According to the report, Tessy ran away with her pregnancy in January, 2015 but later re-appeared in May with neither the pregnancy nor the baby. Following investigations in Onitsha, the police arrested the alleged specialist child-trafficker, Okoye, at No.3, Tonny Olisa Street, Awada. Okoye was alleged to have sold the said baby girl to the couple who lives at No.8, Uzogwu Street, Onitsha, for N500,000, a crime he confessed to, adding that he gave Jude the sum of N200,000 from the said fee, out of which Jude claimed to have bought clothes and shoes for Tessy and also gave her N30,000. On her part, Mrs. Okoye said she forced Tessy to sign an undertaking that she would never come back for the baby, before the money was given to her. According to Mr. Adeola Subomi, who works with a charity home in Ondo State, the business is thriving because of young girls who these days run away from their homes to avoid the stigma of unplanned pregnancies outside marriage and having to care for illegitimate children. Therefore, “they stay away from home for some time, deliver their babies and return home with pittance.” The other side of the coin is the problem of marital infertility, which is driving desperate wives into any venture that could give them babies, at least to save their marriages and breathe some air of fulfillment. Subomi noted: “After long years of marriage, if there is no child, the woman will be so desperate, especially to keep her marriage and also to avoid societal stigma.” Nevertheless, he advised couples with child-bearing or fertility problems to rather adopt children legally and avoid running foul of the law. Adoption process in most states of the federation, he stated, requires prospective couples to pay prescribed fees upon successful interview with the Director of Social Welfare. http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/03/End-of-the-road-for-baby-factory-owners-in-Ondo/
