....tasks Buhari on INEC, Judiciary reform. By Emmanuel Elebeke A former Information Minister and the gubernatorial candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance at the April 11 elections in Nasarawa State, Mr. Labaran Maku says he is confident of victory at the electoral tribunal sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital. He said that citizens of the state should expect the state to be the first to get justice in this new dispensation. The former minister made the declaration Thursday during a press briefing on the conclusion of their presentations at the electoral tribunal in Abuja. Maku told the media that at the close of the tribunal presentation on Wednesday, the electoral body (INEC) failed to close its case without a single witness before the tribunal, after filing 25 witnesses and boasting of having enough evidence to counter APGA’s claim of massive irregularities during and after the election. His words, “rather than bringing the witnesses forward, INEC withdrew its case because its witnesses turned hostile and were not prepared to testify under oath”. ‘’After all the entries, reviews of witnesses , presentation of documents and motions, claims and counter claims, I am more certain and convinced that Al-Makura ought not to have presented himself ab-initio to be sworn in as governor of Nasarawa state. ‘‘I think it’s unfortunate that the electoral act and the constitution allow people who rigged elections to be sworn in as opposed to the constitution in 1979, when electoral petitions were handled before swearing in. “For me, the electoral body that proclaimed Al-makura the winner could not present the witnesses it said it had. It was evident that INEC and APC went for a reckless and fraudulent mutilation of results.” According to him, ‘Most of the Adhoc staff recruited by INEC were APC members, so they did all the damage because if you conduct a survey in the state you will observe that 7 out of 10 people will tell you APGA won the election”. He further reiterated that he would never have gone to court if he wasn’t convinced that he won the election. He however, challenged President Mohammadu Buhari to live up to his promises by ensuring that he makes INEC and the judiciary better than he met them, reminding him that he has the opportunity of reforming the two organization which he once claimed robbed him victory at the polls. ‘‘I have no reason to doubt the INEC and the judiciary under the leadership of President Buhari because when he contested election and lost, he said the INEC and the judiciary robbed him victory and now he is in charge, I expect him to bring that change he had always wanted in both organizations. ‘‘President Jonathan has really transformed Nigeria from 2010 to date. His party PDP lost many states to opposition parties and he congratulated them. He also lost to Buhari and called him to congratulate him. That makes him a good democrat and true reformer. ‘‘What I expect President Buhari to do now is to take the INEC and judiciary reform to the next level by making them to be more independent.’’ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/im-confident-of-victory-at-tribunal-maku/ |

By Bartholomew Madukwe LAGOS—A 27-year-old man, Saidi Abubaka, has been charged before an Isolo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly biting off the lip of another man, one Abubakar Abdulahi, 25, for refusing his sexual advance. The accused was said to have committed the offence at Ago Palace Way, Okota, where the defendant and complainant reside. According to the police, Abubakar was arrested for his involvement in indecent act by forcing his victim into unlawful sex and assault. It was gathered that the matter was reported to the police at Okota Division. He was arrested and allegedly confessed to committing the crime. Abubakar was charged with indecent act, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and assault under the Criminal Code. The prosecutor, Mr. Abayomi Abass, informed the court that it was not the first time Abubaka was involved in sexual assault of males. Abayomi told the court that the accused had been arrested on two occasions by the police for harassing and molesting males for sex. However, when the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty. Presiding magistrate, Mrs Y. R. Pinheiro, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Meanwhile, the matter has been taken over by Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko, following the transfer of Pinheiro. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/man-allegedly-bites-off-anothers-lip-over-refusal-for-sex/

Demdem: Ffuckfuckfool, u and ur friend are shameless liars. There was no election in Rivers. My position is the election must hold all over again and let both Wike and Dakuku present themselves to the people all over again while the people choose whoever they desire in a conducive atmosphere. That is true justice. DEMDEMUMU, Your stupidity knows no bounds. You are the one defending that illegality called Local govt election conducted by Amaechi, and you're here deceiving your fellow fools that there was no Governorship election in Rivers state. Although, I know you as a deranged fellow, but I never believed it has gone this bad. For your information, there was election in Rivers state, and the winner Was Nyesom Wike. |

obailala: Succour at last to the wailers!
Although, the title of the thread is deliberately misleading. The court did not strike out APC's challenge, rather they only struck out the application to have the election materials inspected in Abuja.
Anyway, I dont see APC winning Rivers state even in a free and fair election, but that phantom votes gap has to be closed. You don't live in Rivers state, I do. The hatred for Amaechi and APC after the defeat of Jonathan is unimaginable. I didn't expect Dakuku and APC to get as much they got. |

agabusta: There is nothing here na. Phockphockman why u dey celebrate nothing? Why are u been manipulative with the headline to fool some semi-illiterate here who does not read full reports?
The court had earlier granted APC permission to examine the materials. They just tried to push their luck further by requesting that all the materials used for the election should be transferred to Abuja.
This seems unreasonable to me anyways. Why should all the materials used for election be transferred all the way to Abuja?? A lot can happen to the materials in transit.
What they the APC need, is to emphasise that the judgement granting them permission to examine the materials be enforced to the letter. Since they are the party at the centre, it will be easy for them to get enough security to go to Rivers with their forensic experts to examine these materials. Eventhough I support APC on this case, this request to me is frivolous. No vex, I'm only celebrating APC's stupidity. |
