Jarus: Na wa o
In this age, someone still thinks Edos are Igbos.
And another person thinks Oba of Benin is the only king in Edo state.
Too much ignorance on display on this thread. Don't mind them, the problem with some nairalanders is that they claim you be experts in what they know not. |

Politics › Re: Yoruba People Contributed Nothing To Buhari's Victory - Alhaji Shamsudeen Usman by phyllosilicate(m): 7:58am On May 13, 2015 |
This man should go and learn maths. The south west gave Buhari 2.4 million votes. Thought the difference between Buhari and GEJ was just 500,000, the south west made Buhari win.
Here is the prove. Let us assume that the SW voted the same way they did in 2011, then of the 2.4 million votes Buhari had, he would have gotten only 400,000 and GEJ would have added the remaining 2million to his.
So if we subtract 2millon. From Buhari 15,426,921, he would get 13,426,921
And had those people voted for GEJ as they did in 2011, he would have gotten and additional 2 million to his 12,853,162 votes, which is 14,853,162 and would have won the election. |

Remarkable: The same way the SW considered themselves first by backing Fashola or a younger and vibrant politician as the front-man/flagbearer of the APC, bah??
The joke is on you guys, but it seems you haven't realized it, or you're just playing dumb and hoping , somehow, the North will collapse and leave a booty for the SW to bask in the largess of Nigerian politics.
We have you guys' script, homie; it aint gonna be forgotten, not in the next for years, ESPECIALLY in the next 4 years. Don't complain. You sow? Yup, you reap! (and/or wear too! lol) What made you assume I am from SW? I am not. |

JuanDeDios: I see you really have it all confused and need some help sorting it out. Here -
The "Edo languages" or "Edo group of languages" or "Edoid languages" are Bini, Esan, Afemai, Ora, Urhobo, Isoko, etc. They are not "dialects of Edo language"; they are Edo languages. Now, let's help you understand this.
The above listed languages are not dialects of Bini. They are languages. I think your confusion arises from failure to appreciate the nuances of words and thus understand the proper USES of the word "Edo". To you, Edo = Bini. In a context, it does. But in the context it is used here, it does not. What I am trying to explain to you is: Edo languages does not mean dialects of Bini. An "Edo language" is simply any language that belongs to the same linguistic group (or subgroup, if you like) as Bini.
If you still don't get it, google "language group" or "language family". That should help further. Okay, I get you. I only disagree with the op used of the word dialects to classify them. |

JuanDeDios: No. But where is the insult? Point it out please. Thank you. I find it insulting for you to insinuate, I speak of what I am ignorant of. I am from edo state, grew up in Benin and know our history. There is a difference between Language and dialect. For example, yoruba is a language and there are many Yoruba dialect. Edo is the language of Benin people. Estako, Ishan, Urobo, Isoko, Akoko Edo are not dialects of Edo language. if an Akoko Edo man speaks, a Benin man would not understand anything. |
