See Why Yahaya Bello May Be Above 44 Years

Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, has announced the death of his mother, Hauwau Oziohu.

In a statement on Monday, Bello said his mother died at the age of 101 after a brief illness.

Bello, who is said to be the youngest of six children, was born on June 18,1975. So his mother was 57 years at the time of his birth.

The 44-year-old governor said the matriarch will be buried on Monday in line with Islamic rites.

“With total submission to the will of Allah, on behalf of the family of Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi, we regret to announce the passing away of our matriarch, Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello who answered the call of Allah this evening after a brief illness,” he said.

“We are relieved that her passing was peaceful and painless. Her funeral will be held today at Her resident in Nagazi, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State in accordance with Islamic rites.

“Until her death, she was aged 101 and survived by children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many adopted children.”

In December, 2015, TheCable analysed the puzzle on Bello’s age.

In his biography, the governor said: “He started his early education in 1984 in LGEA Primary School, Agassa in Okene LGA.”

But If he was born in June 1975, he would normally start his primary education in 1981 – as most of his age mates did. Pupils started primary school at five or six in the post-colonial era.

But the biography says he started his primary school in 1984 – which means he was at least three years behind schedule. By starting in 1984, he was nine years old, and would have been in class with his younger sibling had the parents not decided to make Yahaya the last born in a family of six.

The puzzle remains as Bello buries his 101-year-old mom who had him at 57.

The scheduled hearing in the appeal by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has been put off by the Court of Appeal, Abuja.

The court had, last week sent notices of hearing to parties in the appeal. But, when parties got to court today, a panel of three Justices led by Justice Stephen Adah sat to hear other cases.

The panel later rose, with a promise that another panel will be reconstituted to hear Oshiomole’s appeal.

Parties were however, taken aback when, rather than having a new panel, a female official of the court announced to a packed courtroom that the court has elected to hear Oshiomole’s appeal on a later date to be communicated to parties later.

Oshiomhole and his supporters, who have been in court since a little over 8 am, are currently meeting with their team of lawyers on what next steps to take.

As he exited the courtroom, with his supporters behind, Oshiomhole told journalists that he would await the court’s decision in the case.

Oshiomhole’s appeal is against an earlier judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which among others, restrained him acting as the National Chairman of the APC.

Benue attacks: Group declares war, gives herdsmen 48-hour ultimatum to relocate

War has been declared by youths in Benue state following the rise of attacks on their communities - The Tiv Youth Organisation has given herdsmen in the state 48-hour ultimatum to relocate - The group urged Tiv youths to embark on self-defense as a matter of urgency The national leadership of the Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) on Saturday, March 7, declared war on herdsmen following the repeated attacks and killing of innocent residents of Benue state.

According to the New Telegraph, the group who is worried by the increased attacks gave the herdsmen a 48-hour ultimatum to vacate the area and face elimination upon the expiration of their demand.

Timothy Hembaor, the national president-elect of the organization in a statement urged Benue youths of Tiv extraction to resort to self-defense to checkmate rising cases of attacks and killings. Nnamdi Kanu to lead 1m liberation march in US
March 6, 2020

By Emma Elekwa, Onitsha

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will on June 20, 2920 lead a one million march in Washington USA, against religious persecution, enslavement and oppression of Biafrans in various parts of the country.

The group, in a statement on Friday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the march would also target on the liberation of victims of neo-colonial subjugation in Nigeria on that fateful day near Capitol Hill Washington.

It said the US authorities and law enforcement agencies had already granted permission for “this once in a lifetime march” to draw global attention to the unspeakable human misery and rivers of blood flowing throughout Biafraland and Nigeria at large.

The statement party reads: “We the global and indomitable family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to humbly notify Biafrans, friends of Biafra, persecuted Judeo-Christian communities in Nigeria, victims of Fulani terrorism and state sponsored genocide, including all who are reeling from brutal Fulanisation and genocidal land grabbing tendencies of the vandals from the Sahel aided by the regime in Aso Rock- about the upcoming IPOB One Million Man Match scheduled to hold in Washington DC on 20th of June 2020.

Read Also: Nnamdi Kanu absent at dad’s, mum’s burial
“Our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his entourage will lead this march of Biafrans, the forcefully dispossessed, all victims of Fulani religious persecution, the enslaved and oppressed minorities in Northern Nigeria, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world on the match towards the liberation of victims of neo-colonial subjugation in Nigeria on that fateful day near Capitol Hill Washington USA.

“We are delighted to announce that we have sought and have been granted relevant permits by the various US state and federal law enforcement agencies in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia as millions of Biafrans and non-Biafran persecuted Christian communities from across the globe are expected to storm Washington DC for this once in a lifetime march to draw global attention to the unspeakable human misery and rivers of blood flowing throughout Biafraland and Nigeria at large.

“IPOB’s determination to set free all captives trapped in the British created Zoo is unwavering and relentless. We have reached many and are continuing to reach out to all representatives, groups and associations of marginalised, opressed and subdued communities across Nigeria domicilled in the USA to be part of this historic event.

“This unique event in Washington DC will bring home to politicians and policy makers in Capitol Hill the true state of deplorable human rights abuses, lawlessness and premeditated genocide of the Abba Kyari led regime of Fulani cabals in Nigeria ruling in the name of the late Buhari.

“The reign of Fulani terrorism, despotism, impunity, genocide against Judeo-Christian ethnic groups and judicial rascality of the Supreme Court of Nigeria will laid bare for the American audience to fully grasp the level of evil going on in Nigeria.

“It would also afford IPOB an opportunity to demonstrate our unsurpassed global might and prove to the entire world how serious, determined and focus we are towards the enthronement of universal freedom, democracy and rule of law for all not just for Biafrans alone.

“Only after this march will the world finally appreciate the level of human misery and pain inflicted by cattle herding, uneducatable and violent minority from the core Sharia Arewa North on the rest of the populations unfortunate enough to find themselves trapped in the British Colonial Experiment (BCE) gone wrong called Nigeria.

“What is happening today in Nigeria, with the help of a corrupt judiciary, is far worse than what obtained during the darkest days of apartheid in South Africa. All the ethnic cleansing going on in the Middle Belt, religious persecution of Christians in the north, genocide in South and forceful Islamisation of Christian enclaves will be better appreciated by opinion leaders right across the world after this march.

“We are going to let the world know how Fulani illiterate ‘elite’ have steadily relied on British colonial patronage to float five of the world’s deadliest terror groups.

” How this same Fulani group have successfully perverted the judiciary especially the SupremeCourt in their now successful quest to perverse democracy.

“Not since the reign of the demonic Idi Amin Dada in Uganda has Africa witnessed such complicit judiciary in the persecution of innocent citizens and subversion of the spirit and letters of the law.

“Boko Haram, Fulani terrorist herdsmen, Al-Qaeda in the Mahgreb, ISWAP (ISIS in West Africa Province) Ansaru and bandits are all terror groups and killing machines set up by Fulani ‘elite’ who enjoy unlimited British support and patronage.

“The public in the USA will finally know that both Nigeria Senate and House of Representatives are busy promoting laws to give greater funding to terrorists who will one day attack American interests. Nigeria have succeeded in becoming the only state in Africa where terrorists actually run the central government.

“We are calling on all Biafrans (Ijaw, Igbanke, Igala, Idoma/Igede, Annang, Efik, Ogoni, Igbo, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Isoko) all peace loving religious groups and associations from Southern Kaduna, across the Middle Belt down to the east and west living in America and other parts of the world to come out with their children and march for Freedom for All on because the pathway to our freedom is in our hands.”

Politics / Oshiomole: I'm Worried About What I Will Be Remembered For As APC Chairman by phylshan: 4:55pm On Mar 07, 2020
Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says he is more worried about what he would be remembered for than on how long he spent as chairman of the ruling party.

Oshiomhole said this after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa on Thursday.

A federal high court in Abuja had ordered his suspension on Wednesday and the police took over the APC secretariat after the ruling.

But in a confusing manner, a federal high court in Kano, on Thursday, issued an interim order halting the suspension of Oshiomhole.

In law, a court of co-equal jurisdiction cannot review the judgment of another.

Speaking about the attempt to get him “out at all cost”, Oshiomhole said it is possible that he has made mistakes but there is no human being who is perfect.

“You see in whatever you do, those who want to fight you will fight you. But I know that my tenure will be defined my God not by man. And I worry more about what I will be remembered for when I was chairman rather than how long I was chairman,” he said.

“I am convinced that I have done my very best, mistakes would have been made and I want to see the one person who will say he has never made mistakes. But if there are mistakes of the head, we have the capacity to correct mistakes of the head. But I know I have not set out to make the mistakes of the heart. It is just that by the reason of the position that I occupy, it is not quite appropriate for me to join at this hour in explaining who is responsible for the losses that people point out and they want to heap on my head.”

Oshiomhole said despite some notable achievements of the party under him, his opponents still believe that he has not done enough.

“Even when we have lost some states, I ask you did you see one newspaper that congratulated Oshiomhole when we won in Kogi, Bayelsa before the court took it back?” he asked.

“But look at the narrative, once it goes the other way, if we succeed it is not me, if we lose it is me. I know even in corporate organisations, we have what we call profit and loss account, you have profit and loss that is what is called balance sheet. If you look at my balance sheet, I know I am not the best chairman in the world but I believe I have given my all even at the expense of my family well-being and family life to support my party, to ensure that I work sometimes almost 20 hours a day to ensure that I provide the desired leadership that APC needs.”

He also accused Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, of turning around to hurt him despite playing a key role in his emergence.

Obaseki and Oshiomhole have been having a running battle since the governor indicated interest in another term.

“Let me also say that those behind this plot, the hands you saw which includes as you saw yesterday the Edo state governor and his people jubilating but that is the irony of life. You helped in giving birth to a child and the child looks for cutlass to chop off your neck. It has happened in history, it has happened in this country so I won’t be only person,” he said.

“I am proud to say that I have done my best not only when I was a governor, I have done my best as chairman of this party. I have worked not only along members of the party and with support of the good people of Nigeria for the president to be re-elected, for us to have majority in the two chambers of the national assembly.

“Those fighting me couldn’t deliver even a counselor of a local government in their unit. And they just feel that if they cannot give me orders then they must do everything to embarrass my person, but I believe that he who God stands with no man born of a woman can bring him down.

“I can’t say more than that. Those who are parading themselves, holding meetings at night, my prayer to my God is that let them meet at night. What they do at night will be destroyed by light in the day time. I don’t go for night business I do day business. They know themselves, they know me and I know them.

“And I am proud of the support that I am getting from the ordinary majority of our party and even majority of our leaders.”

Politics / IGP To Oshiomhole: Don't Go Near APC Secretariat by phylshan: 12:02pm On Mar 07, 2020
The web of crisis surrounding the embattled National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday got more entangled as the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, warned the former labour leader against showing up at the party’s national secretariat or moving near any formal function of the party in an official capacity.

The IGP had given Oshiomhole the stern warning in obeisance to an order of an Abuja High Court, which gave an interlocutory order restraining Oshiomhole from parading himself as the National Chairman of the party.

Though the restricted National Chairman had obtained another order from a Federal High Court in Kano State, which restored him as the APC National Chairman, the party insisted on obeying the first court verdict, since the courts are of coordinate jurisdiction.

The two courts orders had been a source of confusion as it had divided the National Working Committee and other chieftains of the party. The IGP met with the different factions of the NWC at the Force Headquarters, where he handed down the warning.

But as the meeting with the IGP was going on, security was beefed up at the National Secretariat of the APC on Blantyre Street in Wuse 2. Saturday Telegraph noticed men of the Nigerian Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) patrolling the area under the directive of the FCT Director of DSS, who was seen with about five men of the Service on motorbike. Speaking with Saturday Telegraph, a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), who preferred anonymity, said the chairman’s fate had “been sealed as he was asked by the IGP not to appear at the party secretariat in official capacity”.

The NWC member also explained that the Acting National Secretariat, Hon. Victor Giadom, has been asked to oversee the party until the leadership announces an acting National Chairman. “We have just finished the meeting now and the IGP asked Oshiomhole not to come near the party again. Giadom would be overseeing the party pending when the leaders will announce an acting chairman. And it won’t be long that the party would announce an Acting National Chairman.”

However, some personal staff of Oshiomohle were prevented from gaining access into the party secretariat. The staff, who came with two Toyota Jeep cars were asked to go back from the entrance gate of the party.

From 7am when staff reported for work till 8pm when they left, the APC National Secretariat that is located on Blantyre Street was kept locked. Only few security men where seen going on and out of the secretariat. Even after the Oshiomhole staff identify themselves, they were still denied access to gain entrance into the secretariat. They were later asked to move away from the gate of the secretariats.

Enough is enough, say Oshiomhole’s men.

This is coming as a faction of Edo APC loyal to Oshiomhole said enough is enough over repeated attacks and threats upon the peaceful co-existence of people of the state, particularly, the continued embarrassment of the person of Oshiomhole and his exalted position.

The group also said there would be no right of first refusal or reserved slot for Governor Godwin Obaseki who is battling for second term ticket in the party. Chairman of the faction, Colonel David Imuse (rtd) who stated this during a press conference in Benin City, said the party’s governorship ticket will go to the person who is able to persuade members that he deserves their trust and confidence.

“There will be no right of first refusal, no sacred cows, and no reserved slots. Our party ticket will go to the person who is able to persuade members that he deserves their trust and confidence. We will not be harassed, bombed, intimidated or arm-twisted to give our support to any person. Enough is enough,” said Imuse.

Flanked by APC chieftains and aspirants Imuse said all aspirants, “Including Obaseki, if he chooses to remain in APC, will have to submit themselves to the party primaries.” According to him, all indications are that Obaseki has been going around shopping for a political party that will accept his overbearing and obnoxious determination to foist himself on the political class to actualise his desperate bid for a second term.

“We wish to sound a note of warning to Obaseki and his co-travellers who are determined to destabilize our party that they will not succeed in their dastardly plans. Any person who aspires to contest the forthcoming election to the office of the Governor of Edo state should conduct themselves appropriately as outlined in the Constitution of APC,” he said.

Osagie backs boss

In the same vein, the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, blasted a former Minister of State for Works, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, for comments made against Obaseki, noting that Ogiemwonyi’s inability to manage his private family affairs disqualifies him from the bid to govern Edo State. Osagie, in a statement, said Ogiemwonyi’s political career was initiated by his estranged wife, Senator Stella Oduah and was also terminated by her when she got fed up with him, saying such a character cannot be trusted with the mandate of a local council let alone a state like Edo.

“Ogiemwonyi’s political career was initiated by Stella Oduah who was then his wife. She also ended his political career by withdrawing the ministerial appointment she once nominated him to hold. Oduah has since dumped him, bringing his brief venture into politics to an end. So, you can see that this man who cannot manage a woman and his home certainly cannot run even a local government let alone a state like Edo with all our historical and contemporary sophistication.

Osagie also said that Imuse is not an executive member of the Edo State chapter of the APC and has no right to make statements on behalf of the party in the state, while alleging that Imuse is a member of the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), a body which he tried to use to factionalise the APC in Edo State.

“One Imuse addressed the press purportedly speaking on behalf of the Edo APC. We want to inform the public and Edo people that Col. Imuse is not an executive member of the APC in Edo State and he has no right to make any statement on behalf of the party. We urge all Nigerians to disregard his comments, as they are not only a nullity but of no effect whatsoever,” he said.

Lawyers knock Judiciary over conflicting judgment

Some lawyers have however knocked the judiciary over the two conflicting judgments. JusticeDanlami Senchi of the Abuja High Court had on Wednesday ordered a temporary suspension of Oshiomhole, pending the determination of a suit pending before the court.

The court gave the order following an application of interlocutory injunction asking the court to suspend Oshiomhole, having being suspended as a member of the APC from his Etsako Ward 10 in Edo State. The application was filed by Mustapha Salihu and five others through their counsel Oluwole Afolabi.

However, in a conflicting judgment on the same subject matter, Justice A. Lewis- Allagoa of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano ordered parties in the suit to maintain status quo ante bellum pending the hearing and disposal of the motion on notice filed before the court. Reacting on the two orders, an Abuja based lawyer, Chief Loye Olowokere said judges should not be too eager to grant every ex-parte application brought by lawyers.

“Law is not that an ass as some people think, and assuming it even has the semblance of an ass, those who administer or practice it, that is, the lawyers and judges aren’t asses. Decisions of courts should be based primarily on precedents and the imperatives of relevant statutes and not really on whims and caprices of judges and lawyers. “There are laid down procedures and precedents for the grant of an ex parte order by any judge.

That is, the applicant must establish a case of extreme urgency; the circumstances must be compelling. “He mustn’t have been tardy; he mustn’t be guilty of delay, etc. But it appears to me that all these imperatives aren’t being followed or respected nowadays as ex parte orders fly all over and from most of our courts to the embarrassment of the legal profession. “We even see instances of judges granting ex parte orders where the statutes clearly forbid them from doing so. Some lawyers have also thrown caution to the winds by applying for ex parte orders on behalf of clients in clearly ridiculous situations. “It appears we are reenacting the ugly days that led to the cancellation and annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election through an ex parte order, and Gen Sanni Abacha mischievously stated that he sacked the Ernest Shonekan interim national government in order to save the judiciary from plunging the country into anarchy”.

In his own reaction, a law lecturer, Dr. Godman Ebisike, said due to the very large expanse of Nigeria’s land mass and its attendant communication hiccups, it appears in genuine situations that conflicting judgment in rare cases cannot be avoided.

“But the present strain or feature of conflicting judgement in the Oshiomhole’s case arises from forum shopping,” he said, saying that conflicting orders are avoidable if “forum shopping” based on selfish interests is jettisoned.

“In my view, cases of contract and tort can only be commenced either where the defendant resides or where the cause of action occurred. If not, then the parties should have recourse to the state high court where the cause of action arose or where the defendant resides. Another lawyer, Femi Adeoye, said the conflicting decisions in the Oshiomhole’s cases are, “indubitably the consequence of a brazen abuse of process by the parties involved.” According to him, following the institution of the first action, it amounted to an abuse of process for the second action to be filed on the same subject. To him, the second action ought to have been subsumed in the first suit.

“The court ought to have declined jurisdiction in the second action provided the existence of the first action was brought to its attention as I expected it would have been done. If this was done and the judge in the second action nevertheless decided to proceed, then the judge would have acted improperly and should be sanctioned appropriately.

‘We are ready to pardon, re-admit erring members’ Governor Obaseki, has however said that the state chapter of the party is willing and ready to pardon and readmit erring members who sincerely return in remorse while assuring the people that his administration will not relent in efforts at improving education, infrastructure, healthcare and other sectors of the state’s economy. Obaseki said this while speaking to party faithful and leaders in Edo South Senatorial District of the state, where he noted that the party will commence registration of new members from Monday to strengthen the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

“This gathering is to send you back to your units, wards, Local Government Areas, and state levels to strengthen the party. Our goal is to get not less than 500,000 card-carrying members of the party before June 2020. It will be a shame for any unit leader who can’t boast of 100 members in each unit. “The APC is one; my quarrel with Oshiomhole is that he listened to people and created division in the party. I called him to dissociate from the group and speak up but he refused till today.

I am not a happy person with the judgment from Abuja; it should not have gotten to this point. “For our brothers who have been misled, if they retrace their steps, the party is big enough to accommodate us all, he said, while calling on all APC members in the state to continue to embrace peace. “From Monday, the various registration teams will visit your wards and units. Our goal is to bring a new generation of leaders into our party, the APC. We need more people on our side to enable us to move forward,” he noted.

Clear your name, Edo govt tells Ize-Iyamu

The state government also charged Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to clear himself of the heavy burden of a N700million case hanging around his neck while arguing that the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no grounds to comment on any issue bordering on the APC in Edo State because he is not a member of the party. Osagie who made the allegation said: “Just as we have seen with the case of Oshiomhole, who was suspended from his ward, an action upon which the FCT High Court judgement was based, you can only become a member of the party from the ward level.
