shymmex: ^^^^Are they the same women that almost defeated the Yoruba calvary army?Dahomey invaded Ketu (Yoruba) and defeated them more than once, although I don't think Ketu used horses in warfare, but Oyo's cavalry invaded and defeated Dahomey multiple times. This link gives a brief overview of Oyo vs. Dahomey: http://books.google.com/books?id=Bn3OLJa9DFoC&pg=PA137 On the Egbas, my understanding is that the Egbas defeated them in 1851 and 1864 when Dahomey invaded (Abeokuta was a fortified city at that time). |

These women were pretty badass. |
^^^ The reason I didn't is because it's full of hyperlinks that give additional information on places, people and things mentioned, and there's also a discussion in the comments section where the author gives some additional information due to a comment from someone else. I thought it made more sense to read everything in context and with additional information so I left it as it was. If you want to post the article complete with the hyperlinks, pictures, and comments, that's fine. I didn't think it was necessary though. |
shymmex: ^^^^Why don't you want to post the pictures? What do you mean? |
An interesting article from the Smithsonian giving a brief overview of the female soldiers of Dahomey: http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/history/2011/09/dahomeys-women-warriors/ |
I said it before, but the truth is, as much of an error as this might seem, everyone knows he only came there because of the black people there, hence the emancipation day visit. If he wants to talk to Indians he'll go to India. This is nowhere near as big a gaffe as people are making it out to be since his visit to the country, and at the time that he did, had a racial motivation in the first place. |
dasparrow: @PostThey run long distance alongside the Kenyans and Ethiopians. Nigerians and most other West Africans usually don't do well in those. |
SmoothCrim: I know this is man in glass house throwing stones...As long as you know, that's fine. |
SmoothCrim: Ghanaman hereI saw the Ghanaian runner in the finals as well. Oh wait. . .no I didn't. Never mind. ![]() |
Congrats to her. |
Balotelli's case has always confused me because Italy is one of the worst countries a black person could try to represent nationally. I think he did it partially for the money, but maybe he did it just as much to play with and against the world's best in Europe rather than staying local. |
koruji: Thank you. What did the CIA do in Africa during the Cold War? Go and find out. |
What bothers me the most is that his clear display of constant confusion and ignorance and his disingenuous nature will go totally unnoticed or will be ignored by most people when elections come around. |
EzeUche: I thought a Yoruba would know an Edo name?Blessing Okagbare is Urhobo. I'm pretty sure Freewilly is not Yoruba. |
Sad. She didn't do that bad, but I hoped she would win one. |
lol, pretty big mistake, but he was just speaking frankly and I can't be that mad at him for saying what he honestly believes. He only came there because of the black population of the country anyway (hence the emancipation day visit) |
Doesn't it sound silly to you to compare all of black Africa to just 40 million black Americans? Get over the predictable loss and move on. |
