zboyd: Actually, it's mothers over here that tell their daughters that...as a way of making them think twice or thrice...before dropping their panties for a man.
How does that make them think twice

I see it as women taking back the power in a relationship centred around sex
Why marry when you can have a booty call

Ahh.....

I almost forgot you were the dude that casually throws words like intelligence and ridiculous around..

Your rebuttal is noted

You are free to believe anything you hold

ihedinobi2: Oh c'mon, it's only yourself that could possibly believe that you don't think your perception is the right one. In fact, it's downright ridiculous that you should say that you don't think it is right in the face of all your arguments in the past few months and this very post where you consider our "puzzle-solving" amusing. What is so amusing about it, pray tell?

Let me tell you very plainly what I told kimco until I had too much to do to keep tracking plotholing and asspulling arguments all over the place: a story is poor when by the end of it there is anything that the teller does not account for. What is wrong with a story when there are plausible explanations offered by the teller for things in it? What have you and kimco offered as a plothole here that has not been explained in at least one plausible way?

Plus the story is not finished. What kind of intelligence does anyone need to know that until a story is finished, there can really not be plotholes? Plotholes are truly unexplained events or features in a story. And if a story is still being told how do you know that they will not be explained? By what characteristic can you tell when something CANNOT possibly be explained at all even by the end of the story?

MizMyColi:
Talking about unfollowing specific posts, doesn't really solve the issue at hand, does it?
I unfollow all threads immediately I comment.
That doesn't stop a shared post on one of such threads from popping up on my NL dashboard.

For me, I apply fast scrolling and selective reading.
Other times, I just click on the shared with me button, without actually reading anything for the sole purpose of maintaining a clean and clear dashboard grin
But I make sure to read all my shared posts, later on, when I'm in the mood.

Ehen

Talking of Unfollowing

Ceasar1, did you unfollow and follow again me again, what I do na embarassed embarassed
I'm sorry I don't understand what you wrote above

I am saying people share posts..it appears on my time line

Some are cool..some are not

I'd rather unshare those uncool posts without unfollowing the person who posted them which you suggested
Nairaland General › Re: We Need An Unshare Button For Other's Posts by pickabeau1(op): 10:51am On Sep 24, 2014
Gboliwe

Interesting point you make on sharing one's posts
However I guess the idea is that you want people to get to that post quickly unlike following which has so many posts

But this is specifically for those who you are following and they share posts

MizMyColi: I should be one of the culprits, I think.
cheesy cheesy cheesy

I get to see annoying shares too.

But then, like me, it's prolly a way to let an individual know that they're acknowledged, instead of quoting, especially if nice stuffs are said about me.

I really dunno how Admin might get around that but if it gets soo annoying, unfollowing the person for a bit might suffice imo.
Unfollowing..
That is more troublesome as it means I have to re follow at some point again

Best to Unfollow specific posts
Nairaland General › We Need An Unshare Button For Other's Posts by pickabeau1(op): 10:30am On Sep 24, 2014
Ever since the share button, people just share other moniker's posts in a seeming indiscriminate manner

Some are worthy of note and allow me go to the thread to browse
Others are not and can be annoying.

Seun please can you add an unshare button where we can unshare others posts
The facility is only available for personal shared posts
I would like to unshare unsavory posts from others

kimco: dats the same way kishi allowed kakashi to use more than 5 kamuis even intially he cud only manage two. Arguing with "facts on this manga has become like a comedy show now.
That makes sense
When obito and kakashi reconciled the added power increased the limit on the kamui

Don't forget also a perfect susanoo which was only the preserve of madara was gifted to kakashi spiritually

This is the power of uchiha love no jutsu
TV/Movies › Re: Naruto Information by pickabeau1: 10:06am On Sep 24, 2014
now i get the quandary...

you say i say my perception is the right one..

i never implied that..

However the persistent zeal to solve the puzzles as you call it always seems amusing to me ...

I guess the result is like any internet argument where no one seems to agree and it goes back and forth and on and on and frankly no one knows what the issue was about really ...

Let me state my view

Every story has what is called building blocks and further development of a storyline works on those blocks
Deviations are allowed once in a while but tend not be overused as the focus is on the development of the hero

Kishi is a good writer. He is defying his own blocks and continually miraculous giving more and more powers to his two main figures
All to prove the new generation surpasses the old

OK

No need for further brickbats

On sasuke's feats - i wish him the best

 @tayoccu

ihedinobi2: Actually, you're right that it is about perception. What you are wrong about is that your perception is the right one. You see inconsistencies, others see puzzles. You try to prove that they are inconsistencies, others try to prove that they are the mere art forms of a good writer. Then you pronounce that they are inconsistencies merely because the story is arguable. That is a roundabout argument.

I personally Kishi is very good. I keep wondering what he'll do next. You don't agree, that's fine. Just don't try to ram it down my throat that you're right because then you'll have to prove it and no amount of proclaiming and declaring that the story is inconsistent will save you from the job.

PS: have you ever been in a fight or beaten a difficult challenge? smiley You may not believe my answer unless you have. Victory is an adrenaline shot especially when it comes after a very hard fight. When you beat the mother of all chakra, you know that nine bijuu are your toys to play with and you play with them. Lol.
@kimco
Funny story
But on this wave..there is no bridge that can cross this chasm

They believe Kishi's story while some see inconsistencies
Let's take it like that

Tomorrow its chakra vs souls

Next its minato making himself a jinchu

Interesting post coming from a lady

Glad u see how it goes on in guys minds.. note however being faithful is also important

Lily4star: Some 2 days ago, a girlfriend of mine sent me a message very early in the morning, this is how the chat went.

Babe: I dey vex seriously,
Me: why?
Babe: Nah my bf vex me,
Me: what is it this time again?,
Babe: which one is again?, like am always complaining,
Me: talk jor,
Babe: Can you imagine the I.di.o.t telling me all I ve to offer is sex?, like wtf,

Me: really?, let's be serious, what ve you offered him so far, what has he gained from you, that he would be able to boast to his friends about,

Babe: I ve been faithful to him for a year now, never cheated on him, person wey I calm down for, nah em come dey tell me this rubbish,

Me: so nah been faithful you get to offer am shey?, mumu FYM, nowonder the guy tell you wetin em tell you.

Babe: babe stop am abeg, wetin you mean?,

Me: free me abeg, we go yarn later, I just wake up, I get chores to do. Babe all you offer is sex, better give yourself brain.

Babe: I blame you, fool, nah me wey carry my matter tell you.
Me: I hear, later abeg.

Seriously this alone has said it all, she has seen being faithful, giving sex as a big deal, something they both enjoy, am sure the guy must ve taken his time to think and realise all he gains his just sex, while she gains more, and trust me I know this my friend well, she can be demanding, annoying, she can lie for africa and very LazY too, that's why I don't ever take her serious.

Girls abeg give yourselves brain, stop making these guys feel like all we ve to offer is sex, must a guy be the one to care for all your needs?, nah your papa?, try and be independent and see what happens, some girls can't even give their man a reasonable advice, or make a reasonable contribution when he askes a very sensitive question, am sure some girls(if not most) won't be able to give their bfs advice business wise.

Why won't they treat us like prostitutes? undecided, don't be a liabilty.

The H word.. lol
Its a fact of life

On the polygamy issue this is a matter of different world views

TV01: ...ah! the "H" word!!! Please don't give someone HBP 0 grin!

It hasn't changed and will still be the model - if not legal form - of some even where polygamy is pre-scribed. Mistesses and concubines are very evident in the West.

However, without being overly delicate, woman will still need intimacy and where the man with the means is unable or otherwise occupied, men of lower rank can garner a little something.

First, on the whole, polygamy creates way more issues than it resolves. I repeat, the only thing polygamy really serves are mens lustful desires. Even if polygamy helps reduce the number of widows; it will disproportionately increase the number of singles. As has been noted, polygamists are not for the most part marrying aged singles or widows. Like Western men trading their forty year old for a newer model, polygamists just start a collection grin!

And the dynamics are much worse for women and children. The wives can't even be indignant or righteously outraged.

OP

I think it is wrong for a wife to be foisted on you without your consent
I also think it is doubly wrong considering you have invested materially in the construction of your home

I think hubby should look at housing his new wife elsewhere
Family › Re: A Thread For "Everything Polygamy"! by pickabeau1: 2:31pm On Sep 23, 2014
TV01: Re the bolded, my point is that if it's "faithfullness" to whom is the man faithful? Not to the women, but to his own desires. So even if you argue that it is "not cheating" - as it's accepted abi? It cannot be termed faithfulness, as it's simply not a requirement for him, nor can it be demanded of him.

If it's not entirely myth, it's not long-term tenable. If that was the case, ordered socities would never have sprung up. Human socialisation has changed in some ways, but pair -bonding has been since forever.

Men are naturally protective and defensive of their own women. Be that family, tribe or ethnic. I want my female relatives to make good marriages. I have no intellectual issues with a black woman marrying a white man, but still feel a visceral response. Especially if the bobo is wor-wor grin? I shudder when I see sisters smoke, but feel nothing if its white women.

Women were only spoils and "booty" (yeah, I see what you did there angry ) if they were from enemy tribes. And more likely inter-marriages ("giving away" their daughters) would have been common and used to form alliances.

And then - even as now - not everyone would have been able to marry - poor men, suffering short and brutish lives, with no sex, since forever grin! Societal evolution didn't create marriage, it just made it more accessible.

Always good to chew with you Pick. Come, are we derailing grin!

TV
I agree with the bolded.. alliances and war booty grin grin

I can imagine how d lesser men of those days coped when the women will naturally gravitate to the richer ones to be the nth wife rather than be their first wife - hypergamy again grin

yes we derail

For me.. polygamy was a bit unfair to men of lower means but suitable for men in the upper strata - pick and choose grin
More kids - more labour - more harvest -- more wealth

It meant the man was the be-all and end-all

However the issues it tried to solve still exist (prevalence of marriageable women - widows, 30+, 40+ with no or little hope of being married)With female empowerment as it is, women dont need to look to a man for financial needs however the companionhip need still stays

It can be in a mono or poly setting as long as the components are met - hand giving by a person of authority

Nice debate

majekdom2: apparently sheqina is being sentimental like I said being responsible is not a gender issue. some guys have got their flaws too , just that we have got more females with the lacadestical attitude. no one says career overr marriage . get married and yea , ur hubby can't still support you in whatever you wish for yourself. if he doesn't then he does not love you enough .his fear is you might be more successful than him . I haven't in my lifetime seen a woman who dumps her family just because she is now so successful. someone asked , how many women that are successful are in their husbands houses .I would ask are there no unsuccessful women that are divorced. so which is better being successful or living ur life for a man you don't love.
good for her

The post is clear in my opinion

Women need this so that they are not left in the lurch in life

TV01: I find it hard to see how faithfulness can be unilateral? Even between 2 people
Or how it is faithfullness between more than 2 when they are not all faithful to each other, just the women to the man and he does not have to be faithful to them?
Apologies, it simply does not compute. And although I'd appreciate aclear explanation, I won't drag.
TV
I understand your concept of bilateral equity in faithfulness perfectly
As i said it only works in a monogamous union

In a polygamous union its more of a spider diagram with the man at the centre
However it does not translate to polygamy as cheating as being insinuated

The mindset is more likely yes..but they are not the same

TV01: Read it, but with my "Christian fundamentals", I simply do not believe that men "evolved". Nor have I seen any evidence for it. If evolution were true, we shouldn't even have sexual reproduction, it doesn't make much biological sense.

TV
Its not the evolution part ala Charles Darwin

women traditionally were spoils of war are raids and loots

They were shared as booty

Only the powerful men had access to these women leaving the less able men with scraps

Hence the evolution

Typical from you.. its not new

Once you start on a line of thinking.. you continue on it obtusely

Let me humour you

There are no careers where woman CAN perform

Note this is different from women are working in all careers

Next..

ok i saw this late

The issue is not about women working.women in the previous generation worked and raised kids
Its about a new breed of women who are not interested in working even though they have degrees and can work and just want to be settled maritally

Crystal?
sheniqua: You hardly get any reasonable points on NL so I am not surprised

So who are these girls without ambitions that want to sit home and do nothing?

No i am not fighting

I didnt get your points initially as you were asking rhetorical questions which need no answers

You insisted you were not.

Are u asking now the root for polygamy? or how a man becomes a polygamist?

About Allah/Jehovah we are aware that christianity in Nigeria is less than 200 years old.. so your question i dont get...

bukatyne: This 'you win' is very annoying undecided

Were we fighting or competing here?

If one does not believe in Allah or Jehovah, what is the major root for polygamy? Culture? Why did our fore fathers have 2 or more wives? Is it still relevant today?

Doesn't a man marry a wife first (monogamy) and decides on no 2 to infinity before becoming a polygamist?
