cococandy: there's no conspiracy. Read my post to francistony.
The thing is that it just happens that when we have to make human characterization of abstract figure that we haven't seen, we use the ideas best suited to us and the role that figure is going to play in our lives.
It is that simple.
Igbos have female deities. And each is ascribes a feminine gender because of the role it plays in the life of the people who worship it. For example We have ani, goddess of the land/soil. She's responsible for fertility(which include soil fertility and female fertility; ignorantly, male fertility wasn't recognized as something to be worried about then)
The man was the father of the family so chukwu was ascribed the male gender because his role was the father of the other gods. If the gods were going to have a father, it would make most sense in our human mind to make him a HE because men were fathers. It is only a natural thought progression.
Human beings create their own idea of God that's why we have so many varying versions of who God really is all over the world. It doesn't make it necessarily true but it helps us be grounded in our relationship with the idea or who we want God to be in our lives. So its all psychology n mindset that gods must be male? So Christ who referred to God as Heavenly Father was also a mindset I now see why God must be she. That will undo the eons of brainwashing Females will now be able to reach d top once we say God the Mother... Why stop there Jesus is female or maybe transgender Christian feminists......carry go kaboninc: I wonder what the economic benefit would be should we continue this debate that obviously leads no where. What we stand to gain debating on if God is white or black or brown or whatever, especially with bland kids here. The same bible which most of these people steadily make reference to says all humans are in his image, was the same bible introduced to us by the whites and still the same bible some of us have found solace in it. Same bible made reference to God as a 'He'. In my opinion, a 'man' signifies 'authority', 'superiority', 'head', 'most powerful' and every adjective that points to the 'top'. Also, what's the gain we'd derive pacifying these ladies who decide to on their own to feel inferior here that they can refer to God as a 'she'! If you refer to God as a she and 'She' answers your queries, meets you in times of your needs, so then good for you. You can also substitute all 'He' in the bible with your 'She'. But for those who don't buy this awkward idea, why crucify us? when i saw the article online, i thought it will be seenfor what it was Dangerous revisionism by a group of hallucinated femmes who believe changing the gender of God will atone for the differences in the sexes, that this female God in the sky will turn men to birthing and bleeding humans so that women can do whatever it is men do.. However i can now see the struggle is real women really want God to be a she. I did not know it was this bad |

cococandy: now we are getting somewhere.
God became 'white' because the white men had the upper hand. They had guns. They brought the religion. God was who they told us he was. Whether we liked it or not.
Same way he became a 'he' because those who made the decisions that mattered about him where men. He became a HE because men wanted him to be. Relate?
With this, we needn't argue any further. I knew where you were playing to.. So ur point is now that God is a human creation since men assigned gender to him and not the words of His only Son or even traditional religions Chineke or Chukwu is denoted as male Olorun is too Zeus Etc So it is a global conspiracy to make God a male connotation ? Ok |

cococandy: God is not racist.
But is the presentation made of God by the first white missionaries who brought Christianity to us a racist one? Maybe not intentional but yes it is racist. Pictures of White Jesus. Pictures of White apostles. Pictures of White everyone-that-mattered.
If it didn't affect the psych of the black man, why are black scholars all over the place trying to prove that Jesus was black? They know what happened there. Whether he was really black is topic for another day.
But I've seen a m0r0n once in while say that even God chose to come back to earth in the form of a white man because of one bla bla bla reason. You don't think any of the early representation of God as white man had something to do with that?
It is the same way the representation of God as HE induces the occasionally m0ron to say God is a man and that makes the male gender superior.
Deny it all you want, it is basic psychology at work here. Africa was not colonized because God is white It was because the white people had guns Making.God black will not change the economic realities that the whites n blacks face |

So God is racist too..... choi this joke is getting more serious cococandy: Ok you don't see the relationship. Now that's better.
I didn't expect you to see it. So I won't hold it against you:
It is the same way a white man won't see the relationship between racism and the Christian God/Jesus being a white bearded old man/white young handsome fellow respectively but blacks can see it.
Our points of view are not the same. |

Summary I dont see the relationship between God being referred to as He and male chauvinism You dont need Gods gender to do that cococandy: your problem is that you're the first to pounce on my post to try to argue against it when actually it was meant more for coogar and his line of argument. (Basically that God is a man)
You need to slow down and stop misunderstanding posts not meant for you.
I told you before that I don't agree he should be referred to as a she or it because of the centuries it would probably take to recondition the Christian mind that he now plays a different role than that of a father which we assigned to him. That would be like redefining the religion all together. So i agree it would be confusing and problematic.
But I agree it gives it gives male chauvinists leg to stand on when trying to present the female gender as inferior. I saw their reason for that. And I see it being displayed on this thread and many like it too..
Except you're saying you don't agree that it has that effect on(which I would not be surprised if you say you don't see it)
I don't even know what you're on about again. SHIM help us Ah........ (no MEN there) Nonso23: lets use ASHIM then Perfectly aligned with the cause! |

cococandy: It is lost on you.
If you actually believe God is not man, face coogar and argue against his argument instead of being unclear about where you stand.
Is he a man or genderless? ok....you still dont get it with your pretty head I will expatiate once more..phew The issue once again..is not whether God is a man but which pronoun should be used to refer to the christian God
Christian feminists are up in stitches because they believe that the fact that God has always been referred to as He gave males spiritual backing to perpertuate the patriachy.
So if they make God agender or a She.. this will help in making God less masculine comprende? Nonso23: Abi? even easier to spot the humble boobs and arrogant ones. Good idea! Totally in support! Well i dont want to debate the sex of God theologically That he is referred to as He is enough for now cococandy: You do realize that 'God is not man' in that scripture means God is not human (just a way of saying humans lie but God doesn't) If not it would imply that only men lie.
Every part of the bible gives the distinct message that God is not human and I'm here reading arguments about god's gender when I thought I've seen it all.
You're up in stitches too. All of you are. i guess the discourse is lost on you Ok |

If refering to God as a he makes nairaland dudes and those like them interpret it to mean the female gender is inferior, is that any surprise they would say so? A simple understanding of the reasons why God began to be called a man in the first place should be enough to eliminate childish arguments about the gender of God. good....i wondered why u laid a rant if u had read d text... you did Referring to God as He predates Nairaland.. so saying that is the reason why females are inferior?.... haha Females are not inferior..we are all equal before God but in marriage there is a head which you also agree with So what is the issue exactly To know why God is a He Not a Man...dont get it twisted |

cococandy: You guys on nairaland have taken your chauvinism a little too far.
Pause and breathe.
gods in many religions were variably male and female depending on what role each one played in the lore of the people who worshipped it.
The 'gender' of God is man made. Just like the various religions that we make up to associate and worship him with. And yes I said him. Why? Because that's what I've been taught and it is become a habit.
Just like most of you were taught and those who taught you were taught until it goes back to the first persons who ascribed the gender to him. Before I answer you Have you read the article about feminists saying God should not be referred to as He At least read before u pounce.. |

Darkrebel666: the god of the christians is definitely a 'He' .. its not rocket science. if god was a 'she' - he would have been addressed as goddess instead. Never in doubt But the paucity of causes is the genesis for crappiage such as this - God is not a he - Free the Nip-ples etc |

I agree God is genderless and has both fatherly and motherly characteristics
God has decided to be denoted as a Father. Denoting Him as a she is also not balanced.

which one is representation.. stop prevaricating The church is a collection of people (both male and female) and referred to as a bride..hence a she..no issue there We are talking of God..should God be referred to as a HE or SHE or transgender? Simple bukatyne: Sai!
What part of it is a representation don't you get.
Ok, God is a male, the Church is a female (afterall, na woman be bride) |

The spirit world is genderless... we cannot comprehend God as genderless and the male gender is used to denote him.
Just how the Church is called she... Imagine reading 'it is the bride of Christ'
This is not equality or inferiority or superiority and has no bearing to this discussion Ok..if God is no He or She, why did Christ call him Father And what pronoun do you use with father |

Father represents head of authority, and Yahweh sent Yeshua, hence calling God "father".
