There are several seaports in Nigeria, Rivers state alone has two functional ports (PH port aka Port of Port Harcourt and Onne port) among other ports in the country. The so called Onitsha port is an inland water way, not a sea. No amount of dredging done on river Niger can turn it to a sea. Which merchant wants his ship damaged for going off-sea? South East is landlocked, shipment to Onitsha will have to be transferred via a standard port.

You see my friend. Lagos is strategic, it also took more than federal presence to build Lagos to what it is now
