Travel / Re: Why Does It Cost So Much To Travel To Nigeria? by Pittbaby(f): 11:37am On Apr 08, 2010
nope not based on mileage , i think its based on the route , competition , regulations and capacity available at local airports

USA to SA is cheaper than USA to naija .

I die laughing >>>>You have the wrong date of birth on such an important document and you are thinking of how it will affect a lottery you have not won. Bros please go to WAEC and go and start working on getting that corrected . Unless your intention is to stop your education at the secondary school level , I think there are more important considertaions here

good luck
Travel / Re: My Registered Company Need A Visa by Pittbaby(f): 11:22am On Apr 08, 2010
not sure how your registered company factors into getting a visa. Do you have business in any of the countries you have listed? I will advise that you expend your efforts on growing your company and not waste too much time on visa issues. besides unless the amount you have stated is in dollars or pounds and not naira , it is not a sizebale amount to show in a bank account for a business.

Go and apply for a visiting visa like everyone else and follow the instructions on the consular website .

Travel / Re: Advice Needed? Modeling Abroad And Visa Question? by Pittbaby(f): 10:06pm On Apr 07, 2010
Oga for una , anyway to clarify my point

As an international student you can only work 20 hours a week on campus and it is illegal to work off campus . You can declare economic hardship to work off campus , but that needs to be approved by the INS . Good luck with that .

The other legal options for working off campus are CPT and OPT which is essentially practical training in your area of study ,
CPT needs to be endorsed by International student advisor for only your course of study , so unless she is getting a degree in modelling not going to happen. She can model with OPT but note that you only get 12 months for your entire stay in the US . it will be a great waste of that oppurtunity , unless she is doing it part time after graduation , or can not secure any other gainful means of emplyment during her 12 month OPT.

for the sake of argument all things are possible illegally , but then there is a reason it is illegal smiley

See link below for supporting evidence of my claims , PEACE

Computers / Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by Pittbaby(f): 2:37pm On Apr 02, 2010
just wondering what the market for Ipads will be in naija . since there is no USB drive only an adaptor thru the docking station for a camera kit and the 3G sim card for the the 3G version is a micro sim and not a regular sim which will have allowed jail breaking . All this translates to no internet connectivity in places like Naija where wireless connectivity is primarily through USB devices.

Travel / Re: How To Cut Your Living Expenses In The Usa. by Pittbaby(f): 6:25pm On Mar 29, 2010
hmm,  not sure there is anyway to significantly  cut expenses beyond living within your means in the first place . The idea is to budget , understand your income  and expenses and the rule of thumb I use is that all my expenses must fit into one pay check ( I get two a month) so that the second paycheck is more or less discretionary spending,  saving , tithing (  church and my parents and siblings share) and investing.

Also do your best to do away with non essentials some small things that add up are -

1. Paying for more than one phone ( I.e cell phone and land line, if you need a land line and have internet explore a service like Magic jack).

2. Eating out - if your workplace does not offer a subsidized cafeteria   bring your lunch from home ( Mine does so its actually cheaper and healthier for me to eat the food provided i pay like $1.50 per meal)

3. Cable bill - if you can not do with out TV like me - at least get the basic cable package ( Websites now provide for free a lot of the TV shows provided by HBO & co.)

4. Pay attention to local taxes , property taxes when choosing an apartment / house to buy . I saved   $1300  this year by choosing to live in the same city I work

5. Pay attention to what you are being charged by your bank and every expense in your account _ This one i got from Suze Ormaun . You may be surprised to find that some random service is charging you $20 a month for something you are not using .

if your paycheck is small then I dont subscribe to cutting your neck to send something home . Just make sure you are doing your sincere best after allocating a reasonable amount to your comfort and savings ( very important you must have at least a six month emergency fund)  . if you lose your job it will be like making a mountain move to get the money from naija,  if you have no savings to survive on . So pay yourself first , cos those same relatives will tell you are silly if you tell them you are broke in bad times.

(Please note that this advise is coming from someone who has no mortgage , car note , student loans and walks to work , thereby having hardly any gas expenses , and no children or dependents in the US to feed)

Overall this is a very good thread , I look forward to posts from others that may help me cut expenses

Romance / Re: 10 Things Men And Women Do That Destroy Relationships by Pittbaby(f): 3:18pm On Mar 27, 2010
1. Not Answering the Phone:

When a man doesn't answer the phone, especially at certain times of the day, it causes suspicion in a woman’s mind.

what if the man doesn't answer some calls when you are with him?

the question is do you trust him ? cos if you dont you can spin anything to make it look bad .

Travel / Re: Out Of Status In Us On F1 Visa by Pittbaby(f): 4:22am On Mar 26, 2010
go to the international student advisor of the school that issued you your I-20 and stop seeking advice from non-professionals .

The only way that you are out od status is if you are past the validity on your f-1 status or you did not maintain the required credits and the sevis system has been updated to show that.

The international student advisor maybe able to get you re -enrolled , i have seen it happen .

why not try the UK first , since you want to see the world . You should be granted a visa , but try easier ones ,,,,(UK , Dubai) first if it makes you feel better

Romance / Re: What Is So Wrong About Not Having A Boyfriend? by Pittbaby(f): 1:58pm On Mar 20, 2010
At 20 you do not NEED a boyfriend . If you HAVE one nothing wrong with it , just be careful about the intimacy commitments you make , you still have several years on this earth and you dont want to start accumulating numbers wink

No matter how much you guys think you love each other , chances are you will not marry each other
Travel / Re: Visiting Us As A Grandmom. by Pittbaby(f): 1:53pm On Mar 20, 2010
no your green card does not affect her coming . But i will consult an experienced Immi lawyer before you file for her because , once you do, you want to understand her ability to visit untill it gets done ( under current law years and years)

For the visiting visa

You can not book the appointment for her from here until she has paid the application fee at the closest UBA  branch office see steps to booking an appointment in link below . Some people use booking agents , but I will let others comment on that I have no experience with that system

i registered mine with the organization in the states . I believe it costs $170 and the books i bought fromamazon.com.

If you are in naija , the British council will be the best starting point, they should know where to get the books as well. The sooner the better , cos the exam dates fill up fast.

if you are not ready for marriage , why are you in a relationship with someone that is ripe for marriage? Did this not occur to you before you entered the relationship? Please ask her about her marriage plans now and discuss yours with her. You guys need to have an adult conversation.

I love you does not translate into I want to marry you now , it just means i could possibly consider spending the rest of my life with you. Please state your stance before you guys waste anymore time.
Travel / Re: Visiting Us As A Grandmom. by Pittbaby(f): 7:17pm On Mar 19, 2010
You can sponsor your mom for a visit visa.
She doesn't really need bank balance, property, and all that. What is your own status in the US?
If you're a citizen and settled in the U.S., she only needs evidence that she plans to return to Naija, plus evidence of your status. Those guys don't really look at all those documents, they look and your form and make up their mind. You only have like 2 minutes to convince them anyway.

Is she over 55? It'll be much easier if she was.
May 11 is not so bad, so better grab that date

if she is a US citizen , she has the recourse to file for a green card for her mum , if she does that her mum will find it quite difficult to get a visiting visa until the process is completed has the visiting visa does not allow immigrant intent . Very stupid system but trust me does of us that are processing our green cards or have in the past know it is a very long thing , unless you are from a visa waiver country you have a long period of seperation from the filer ( unless of course you are a spouse or child to a US citizen which takes a shorter period)

Since the matter at hand is a visiting visa , the status of her child makes no difference as long as he/ she is not illegal. Please she needs to take all she can legally tender ( it is clearly stated on the website strong ties to home country) anything you can do to establish ties is not a waste. If they dont ask at least you know you were prepared.

better he seats for the IELTS and not try and go through any other complicated thing to prove he speaks english.

The exam is very easy . i read the books i bought for about 30 mins before the exam and got all perfect scores. ( never used the thing in the end)

if he has published a book this should be no problem.
