This news reminds me of the no-nonsense VC in our era, Prof Oba Abdulraheem. Unilorin never went on strike as he stopped the school from joining the ASUU strike back then. I don't think I know this one. May his soul RIP, amin!
Yeah! Oba was the VC while I was there. How could I forget? He was a radical! He came midway though. Can't remember his predecessor.

EducationRe: My Take On Parents Confronting Their Kid's Teachers As A Former Teacher by placeofallure(f): 9:51am On Jun 08
HacheNoire:
You killed it in the paragraphs below

You would have observed that kids don’t repeat classes again and everybody kids suddenly became brilliant. I am sure you will have kids who got double promotion in that class and still can’t read.

Parents have become the root cause of the decay in education as they have corrupted and threatened the educational system. There is practically nothing they cannot buy for their kids, from double promotion to admission.

Majority are just wannabe’s who are trying hard to be like their slave masters and why they detest discipline even when it’s glaring to their face that it was worth it.

Can’t you see the quality of graduates we churning out now? They are mostly products of bad and weak parenting, and not never the fault of teachers or schools trying to make profit at the detriment of discipline and delivery.

Anyway, kudos! It’s a beautiful write up!
Kudos to OP for a job well done. Teachers are seeing premium ṣege from parents cause I'm in the system. I don't know from what lens parents are viewing from; but why would a teacher single out a pupil with the intent of meting out hatred to them? It doesn't make sense!

You see this rot has been in existence for long. I served in the year 2001. We, some Corp members, and I were in the Zonal Inspector's office, and one of us asked me if I could help her with a write-up on culture, a task assigned to her by her boss, who was serving with one of the state commissioners. I don't know why she asked me, but I collected the paper and in a few minutes, I was done. (Those were not AI days). I didn't know the ZI was eavesdropping on me. He asked to see the article afterwards and he nodded appreciatively. He went on to scold my friend wondering why she couldn't write a line by herself.

I became the ZI's unofficial PA, he moved me from my PPA to some place close to his office. I did a lot of stuff for him. I became his friend such that I got away with many things, even going AWOL. He said there's nothing he couldn't do for me. He was stunned that many graduates couldn't even respond to a query. So that rot has been in existence for a long time, and dare I say it's getting worse now. There is practically no part of Nigeria that is untouched by the corruption that we now wear as a tag. Everybody needs to do better.
RomanceRe: The Danger Of Assuming A Man Won't Fight Back: A Market Scene Yesterday by placeofallure(f): 12:25am On May 31
Dpsychologist:
Synopsis: She Slapped Him In Public and Everybody Defended Her. But What Happened Next Changed The Mood Instantly.

One thing I've noticed about human beings is that many people love consequences in theory until consequences actually arrive.

There was an argument in a market earlier yesterday between a lady and a man. Voices were raised, tempers flared, and before anyone could properly intervene, the lady suddenly slapped the man. This is not a playful tap o, it is mot the kind of slap people dismiss as harmless. It was a loud, angry slap that immediately drew attention from everyone around.

Predictably, the crowd reacted the way crowds usually do.

People rushed to the man's side, not to ask what happened, but to restrain him. Some told him to calm down. Others reminded him that she was a lady. A few even looked at him as though he had already committed an offence simply because he was the man in the situation.

Unsurprisingly, he didn't react.

He adjusted his clothes, sat down quietly and said nothing. The tension gradually disappeared. People returned to their businesses. The lady looked victorious. The spectators concluded the matter had ended exactly the way they wanted it to end.

Then came the twist.

A few minutes later, when nobody was paying much attention anymore and the atmosphere had completely relaxed, the man stood up, walked over and delivered series of slaps of his own that reconfigured the lady's brain.

The shock was not even the slap itself.

The shock was how quickly public opinion changed.

The same people who had watched the first slap without much outrage on why the lady slapped him suddenly became defenders of morality. The same voices that were silent when the man was hit became very loud when the woman was hit. People began shouting. Some tried to hold the man. Others demanded explanations.

What made the whole scene remarkable was not the violence. Violence is ugly regardless of who starts it.

What stood out was the inconsistency.

Nobody had physically restrained the woman when she struck first. Nobody had gathered around to lecture her about keeping her hands to herself. Nobody seemed particularly concerned about violence until the recipient of the violence changed.

This is where many people get themselves into trouble.

Some individuals genuinely believe that being a woman automatically shields them from physical consequences, even when they initiate physical aggression. They mistake restraint for inability. They assume every man, regardless of temperament, upbringing or self control, will simply absorb the humiliation and walk away.

Most men will.

Some won't.

That is why the smartest rule remains the oldest one: keep your hands to yourself.

Once an argument becomes physical, you lose the ability to control how it ends. The moment you decide to hit someone, you are gambling on their reaction. Sometimes you win that gamble. Sometimes you discover too late that the other person was willing to return the favour.

The real lesson here is not that retaliation is right. It is that people should stop treating physical aggression as acceptable when it comes from one gender and unacceptable when it comes from the other.

If hitting someone is wrong, then it should be wrong before and after the comeback. Not only when the score becomes level.
Aarrgh! Well, I once slapped a man in the market o. In fact, it's happened about 3 or 4 times now. Each time, I think the men were at fault. I could be aggressive I know it, especially when I sense someone wants to take advantage of me.

The first instance, a man I don't know from anywhere just came and hugged me, tight embrace, I wasn't expecting anyone would be that crazy. The attraction was my chest area. No indecent dressing but it's still attractive. I dealt him a heavy slap and people restrained him from a reprisal. I left the place quickly, it was embarrassing.

The second was a conductor that I gave a mint, crispy, straight from CBN #1000 note only for him to give me as change notes you'd think escaped from Sambisa and Kalahari together. It was tattered, softer than tissue paper, and torn. The grouse is that he had better notes but he chose to give me the worn-out ones. I asked him to change it, but he didn't mind me. His mistake was he didn't know that even weyrey titi dey wear suit, I'm coming from work, me wey be street! I was planning my assault. I put all my extra hand luggage into one place and stylishly removed my earrings and wrist watch. As I stepped down, I just dragged him along from the bus and used his cloth to strangle him. People were begging me. I told them I would only leave him if he's dead. After they separated us. I showed them my #1000 naira note that he was still holding and the weyrey note he gave me, total contrast. In fact, everybody blamed him, especially when you have other notes. He changed it and I left in peace.

One, after I used my bag to hit him severally, I still dragged him to the police at the check point. I left him with them. His offence, he nearly hit me by driving his keke recklessly.

Men can find trouble many times, and me, I don't suffer fools gladly.

I should share your optimism, but dude, how can you be proud of a nation that celebrates and elects criminals, who rise to power as leaders, not based on meritorious performance but on tribal and religious extremism.

If the guy was a drug dealer, ritualist, smuggler, will they claim him to be Nigerian? Immediately, they will tell you he is IGBO, but same people stereotyping IGBOs, elected and supported TINUBU that was mentioned in drug cases in USA.

That country needs a very brutal reset or it divides totally, so each unit/region develops at their own pace.

Nigeria is seriously shaking
cool...
I like to be objective. Nobody stereotyped anybody. The truth is bitter for many people to swallow. My Yoruba people will say: Ootọ ọrọ, ọmọ ìyá isọkusọ ni. I won't be economical with the truth. Are Ibos not more into drugs than any other tribe? Are Yorubas not ritualistic more than any other tribe? Are Hausas not the bandits and terrorists killing people up and down? When dey give you your own, just collect am take rub body. My own too dey my body.

As for Tinubu, can you swear say your kinsmen no vote for am? Nigerians, all tribes inclusive voted for Tinubu. In my heart of hearts, if you ask me, Obi can't do better with Nigeria than Tinubu Is doing.

Lastly, there are bad Nigerians, especially in governance. Now, does that change your nationality to Canada, England or even Ghana? Are there still not good people in Nigeria? I have some Ibo friends that I don't ever joke with no matter what. For the sake of those ones, and the good people of Nigeria that I've never crossed paths with, but are doing their little bits to make the world a better place, I will always be proud of Nigeria. Until Nigeria divides or a major change happens to her, I remain a proud Nigerian.

Mods, you could ban me, I care less. Truth must be told without mincing words. I won't be that person.

Why would the police of a state concern itself with whether the citizens own a vibrator or not? Since when did owning or possessing a vibrator become a crime? This is purely a harassment episode. The ladies should sue the police if they have the means. This is an encroachment into their personal space.

Exactly! I support the initiative. The police and Amotekun are there, The army too, but it's obvious their efforts, for one reason or the other, are not enough; so this is a welcome development. How does it sound that children, teachers are not able to go to school because of boko bandits? A school is a civilian space, not military. The sights of armed guards, much more the sight of armed kidnappers or bandits, is very very unsettling. Teaching and Learning can never thrive in that ambience. Iru Ẹkùn should carry on provided they operate within the tenets of the law and not allow the outfit to be politicised!

Moreso, many of you are already doing sho sho sho all over the place...Now that the bandits are in SW, cowardly Yorubas are not doing anything about it. This is a move showing we're not cowards. We're Omoluabis who believe in being civil. I will carry arms and protect what I cherish.

Namaster:
Saying a First Class in Sociology is SUPERIOR to a 2.1 in Law is DELUSIONAL.

The courses listed by the OP are some of the MOST USELESS courses anybody can study in Nigeria TODAY.
Regardless of what they graduate with.

IF you have kids, mentees or siblings looking for admission; this is a perfect list of courses to AVOID.

Unless their main target is POVERTY and UNEMPLOYMENT.

Also, getting a First Class Degree in English is almost IMPOSSIBLE.

I attended a School that's nearly 40 years old and they'd NEVER had a First Class Graduate in their English Department.
I always tell my mentees that English is a very stubborn discipline to pass. All the JAMB excellent scorers that you see, when they get 80 or 90 in Mathematics and the core sciences, English will be 60 or 70 something. That's the nature of English.
But I tell you for free, English is not a useless course to study.

Honestly, I really would not like to join the rest of today's generation to criticize marriage as a sweet union of people. Judging from what you wrote, everyone wants a similar story but the kind of broken people that are in the dating pool is seriously alarming.
All of you have slept with yourselves and filled yourselves, now it is hard to choose for matrimony, real sad world we live in today
See I have two male friends who are young and married like me. Sometimes, we drive to work together. We were talking generally that morning and I don't know when one of them said that he pitied young men who are bachelors in this age that we are, that to get a good woman to marry will be like a camel wanting to pass through the eye of the needle.

Honestly, I agree with him. I see young people around, men and women, and the future looks bland, looks bleak. I think parenting is to blame. No matter what the society chunks out, parents have a responsibility to nurture their own, societal vices regardless. You have no control over the society, but you can exert your energy over your own. May God help us.

We never marry
She organise my life.
When i met her, i was dating 2 other girls.
The first was just looking for a guy that was ready for marriage and she stayed because she hasn't seen😂
The second one was after what she can get from me
But when this one came, she was opposite of the first 2 in everything.
After dating/observing the 3 for 5 to 6months, i ended everything with the first 2 and focussed on only her and its been a year and 8months now. and no regret
Why does this story look like my husband's story?
He was dating two ladies before we met, they were older than me. The first one was agitating for marriage, the other one was too, but she was more subtle in her approach, then I remember our boss complaining about her 'other room' inadequacies. Men and bedroom things grin

When I came in, I was little, and was less concerned about marriage. I married an older man. In my husband's voice - I brought peace, no nagging or bickering or disrespect of friends and family. I got along well with everyone. I think the initial two lacked in those departments. Then, I don't ask for money or things too. He just gave me willingly. I didn't pressure him for anything, me wey I dey 'too proud' to ask for help. I always see it as demeaning up till tomorrow. That's as far as my hubby goes.

On my own part, I knew he was the one because we were friends first, and we carried that into the relationship. He lavished attention on me. We'd gist endlessly, he never gets tired of me. Then he can pamper for Africa! I don't ask but he always gives. He never plays the Alpha male game around me. My parents love him!

We've been married for over a decade and it's still like we just met. We still gist till late in the night, we still hold hands while we stroll, we still don't get tired of each other's company, we eat from one plate and the people who know us - family, friends, colleagues, neighbours- call us The Siamese twins.

It's a fairy tale when you marry the one.
