TroGunn: What was key was his death. His birth was basically transfer of life since he had existed before in heaven.

Only at his death did he provide the redemption from sin. His birth would have not amounted to much had he fallen into temptation from the Devil like Adam did.

Eccl 7:1 - "A good name is better than fine perfume,  and the day of death better than the day of birth".
Good point!

Todaynatoday: Abegi, Christmas is not a celebration of Christ's birth, it is just another public holiday when you remember:
* christmas tree
* satan claus a.k.a father christmas
* elves and the north pole
* snowman
* to throw fire crackers and disturb my peace
* that chicken & rice is suddenly so important
* to go to beach and have fun (woo hoo, Jesus would be so pleased)
* to go clubbing (praise the lord somebody)
Although I have no qualms with christmas, I just hate it when people try to paint it as something that is so important. Maybe it used to be about the birth of Christ but now, christmas has lost its' essence. Pagans have reclaimed their celebration (maybe the pope should change it to the celebration of Jesus' baptism)
If He does, it will still work for Him, people who do not care what the scripture says, but follow men traditions will accept whatever is put to them:
Matthew 15:9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"

ijawkid: Smh!!!!!...........the angels and shepherds celebrated xmas??......are you dreaming??....oya please tell me date the angels and shepherd celebrated christs birth and if they commemorated it.........did they commemorate it like you are doing??...did they run around with xmas trees in heaven and firing knockouts??.............oh now you see that the customs of christmas are an exact replica of pagan celebration.....
______________________________

And as regards Jesus' birth you err......Jesus' birth could not have meant much as his death, because he had existed before descending to the earth.........it is death that Jesus had to taste before we can gain salvation that is why he said it with his mouth that the last supper be commemorated exactly the way he did it.....you see how Jesus set the pace in the way Christians should observe the last supper??.......nothing about xmas is in the scriptures......nothing!!!!!
Thank you very much for your sincere contributions, Christian Christmas celebrants have absolutely no scripture to back thier claim.
The pagans on the other hand will never forsake thier feast for Christians. They are the original celebrants.
Those who keep adding to Gods word should know the complications of doing so.

Zikkyy: Sister plappville, you are still on this matter. I can see alexleo is doing a good job here.

I think you should do away with this idea of "if it's not expressly stated in the bible, then it not right". You sound like a robot when you do that. It gives the impression you are just regurgitating other people views.

When Christ gave his commandment, he did not say this is exactly what you must do and these are the list of activities you must abstain from. We have a freedom to operate within the commandments as long as we don't act in a manner that does not align with them. Society evolves, so does activities. Jesus could not have instructed that we should not watch certain programs on television because there was no t.v at the Time. The scriptures covers event up to some years after the crucifixion, and will not expressly address behaviours or activities not vogue at the time. Man will always look at New ways of doing already established behaviors or activities or even new things to do, but we must be guided by the scriptures to ensure we don't go wrong.

2. You cannot say Christmas has pagan origin and therefore it is wrong, afterall the idea of sacrifice and worship performed by pagans has its root on Cain & Abel, but that does not make it right. Agreed that Christmas is now a global feast and people celebrate it for different reasons. People will rob or kidnap to raise fund for christmas celebration, to them Christmas is all about making merry. The beauty of it all is that God looks at the heart and not your actions.

Take alexleo's advice and focus on the fact that Christmas is not done right. You make more sense if you critic the manner in which some peeps celebrate Xmas. Also considers the possibility that these peeps might not be Christians.
Broda Zikkyy, yes oo, why do you want me to give it up? Scripture encourages exposing unscriptural practice in the body of Christ. grin grin grin

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

Zikkyy:
"what if I decided to celebrate the birth of Christ by a dedicating a day once a year for it, a day I chose, and I spend the day giving praises. Do you consider my action a sin? If yes kindly state why"
My broda, believe it or not, when you came into this world, u came with an instruction manual (the Bible)! God’s expressed will and purpose is written througout its pages.
Just like when you purchesed a new phone, it has a guide manuel which you follow to operate ur telephone so you don't end up spoiling it.
Every word of scripture is God’s message to u who you are, what you are, why He created you, and how He expects you to conduct your life.
Everything you need to know about the true purpose of life is written in God’s Word:

(John 17: 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.)( Matt. 4:4; II Tim. 3:16-17)

When u read the Scripture, God is talking to you! He shows u how to live a happy, fulfilling, abundant life without borrowing from men traditions.
Now i invite you to pick up your “instruction manual” and examine what God says about birthdays.

Birthdays in the Bible

Birthday celebrations are mentioned in the Bible on two or three separate occasions and, in each case, something terrible occurred. I'm sure you did skiped this, i will recontruct it for you to see it clearly. These three accounts bear brief examination.
First ACC is in Genesis. The Egyptian king Pharaoh, celebrated his birthday by executing his chief baker (Gen. 40:1-23).
Note: This was during his birthday party, according to the interpretation God gave to Joseph. As the dream had foretold, the baker was hung at the party.

Second ACC is from the NT, Herod the tetrarch reluctantly ordered the beheading of John the Baptist (Matt. 14:3-11) make sure you notice verse 6: “But when Herod’s birthday was kept…” During the dancing and merry making at his "birthday party", Herod got carried away and eventualy made a promise that he did not want to keep.
As a result, a great servant of God lost his life. (John the Baptist).

I think there is a similar account in the book of Job, these parties were obviously not centered around any kind of celebration related to God, or Job would not have worried that his children may ve sinned during these celebration feasts. He was not exactly sure what was going on in their minds, but the very celebration of their birthdays triggered great concern in him (see verse:5). Apparently, during the birthday party, God allowed Satan to kill all 10 of Job’s childre through what appears to be a tornado (vs. 6-13, 18-19).

Job 1:4 The Bible says that Job’s seven sons “went and feasted in their houses, "every one his day"; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them”

If you read forther in Job chapter 3 you will see a proof that these birthday celebrations displeased God. Because Job spend time cursing every aspect of the day of his birth.
Job words make plain and clear that there is nothing good about the day of a man’s birth.

Conclusion to your Question above, You cannot invent what is not writen in the bible to be a pratcise for God, Scripture has enough for us to follow.

It is true that the above scriptures do not contain a direct condemnation of birthdays stating: “Thou shalt not…” or something similar.
But consider for a moment the central lesson of each of these ACCs.
They represent the only three birthday parties described in the entire Bible. "Absolute disaster" occurred on each occasion!

Now my question for you, if God felt birthday celebrations were something positive and good, why wouldn’t God record one other account where something either good or positive happened? I bet you, there is no such account in the entire Scripture.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians, Can You Trace The History Of Your Feastival......? by plappville(op): 11:34pm On Dec 24, 2012
alexleo: Whichever way they choose to celebrate whatever, is their business. For us we are celebrating Jesus and there is nothing unbiblical about celebrating Jesus. I ve given out verses where the birth of Jesus was celebrated. Wether pagans are celebrating anything on that day doesnt make any meaning to us. Pagans and evil men also celebrate or worship one thing or the other on sundays and we couldnt be bothered anyway.
The verse you presented did not say Christ birthday was celebrated...See my last post for more about what the bible teaches on birthday.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians, Can You Trace The History Of Your Feastival......? by plappville(op): 11:32pm On Dec 24, 2012
alexleo: My dear sister, i see nothing wrong in remembering and celebrating the birth of Jesus. The angels celebrated it in luke 2:9 - 15 and the shepherd celebrated it in luke 2:20. We can condemn the manner which it is celebrated but not the entire idea. 25th december is just a day brought out to celebrate his birth and we are not saying its exactly the date he was born.
If it was not wrong, the examples will be spread over scripture. There are only 2 birthday occasions recorded in the bible, One king HEROD, two king PHEROAH. BOTH ARE PAGANS.

These two evens were well penned as birthday, why is Christ own not? be informed that these events have similarities in that they're both marked by celebrations and executions, one was the death of Pharaoh's chief baker and the beheading of John the Baptist by Herod)(Genesis 40:18-22; 41:13); (Matthew 14:6-11; Mark 6:21-28).

What is the good example of birthday? which of the Rigteous figures can you point out celebrated yearly birthday apart from these two pagans? This is where the problem is.

It doesn't matter, or there is nothing wrong, traditions are multiplying, growing in the church every blessed day. This is no doubt Prophecy in fulfillment.

alexleo: However the madness that some people display in the name of christmas celebration is what am against.
They are not mad, it has been the way it was celebrated, it was even worse than this before Christianity was revealed to them.

So, on a normal situation, they feast is feltish, nothing Biblical in it. The truth may be bitter but i believe it is sweet to the heart of those who fear God.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians, Can You Trace The History Of Your Feastival......? by plappville(op): 10:58pm On Dec 24, 2012
alexleo: Well, God knows our heart that we are not celebrating any pagan rubbish. The truth is that Jesus was born and if he was born it means he has a birthday. We do not know the exact date but i see december 25th as a day set out to remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus. In the bible the birth of Jesus was celebrated by the angels, the shepherds, the wise men etc so there's nothing wrong in celebrating the birth of Jesus wether on 25th of december or anyday that anybody or church chooses. However the madness that some people display in the name of christmas celebration is what am against.
2 peter 1: 20 knowing this first of all, that ""no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation"". 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Who was this Prophet God spoke to, aside the Scripture to set aside this date? just if we are to follow this scripture above undecided

Origins of the Christmas Wreath

The circle of the Yule or Christmas wreath represents the pagan “Wheel of the Year” or “Circle of Life” that marks the annual changes in the seasons at the Festivals celebrated at the solstices and equinoxes.

An ancient belief concerning the Pagan festival of Yule is that the wheel of the year stops briefly at this time of the winter solstice. It was taboo to turn a wheel, or even a butter churn, on the shortest day. Traditionally, a Yule wreath is made with holly and ivy, two plants that work in magical harmony to provide protection to any household with a Christmas wreath on the door.

Ancient Pagan traditions have been seamlessly adopted into the modern Christian Festival, and no doubt boughs of ever green plants and the light of a flame bring hope and warmth to modern man in the depths of winter just as they did to the ancients.

The Christmas wreath, like many other Christmas Traditions, has ancient Pagan origins in the festival of Yule.

The winter is here again, here comes the historical festival in display by ignorant Christians.

Celtic Fire Festival of Yule

The Winter Solstice occurs on December 21 in the Northern hemisphere, June 21 in the Southern Hemisphere. Known as the Festival of Yule to pagans, the winter solstice is the shortest day, and the longest night of the year. The Celtic fire festival of Yule was a time of renewal and rebirth, celebrated by lighting fires to welcome back the lengthening days. The remnants of this practice may be found in the charming tradition of the Yule log, still enjoyed by many people at Christmas even today.

The lighting of candles and modern Christmas lights is also a relic of this ancient need to bring light to the darkest time of the year, and even in this era of electric lights that dispel the gloom all year round, many people still enjoy the warming feeling of seeing a beautifully lit tree or an array of lighted candles.

The Pagan Origins of Christmas Decorations Traditions at Christmas from the Celtic Festival of Yule by JOANNE E. BRANNAN:

Many people enjoy Pagan Christmas traditions without knowing of their origins. From the Yule wreath to candles and lights, ancient practices abound at Christmas

Fairy lights and evergreen decorations are essential decorations in many households at Christmas. Wonderfully evocative in the darkest period of the year, they are remnants of very old pre-Christian beliefs about the return of the sun and the stillness of the midwinter.

Significance of Holly at Christmas:

Pagans celebrate the rebirth of the sun at midwinter, rather than the birth of the Son of God celebrated by Christians at this time. The renewed ascent of the sun in the sky beginning at the winter solstice was symbolically reenacted as a battle between the oak tree of the summer and the holly tree of the winter.

The bright red berries of the holly bush represented fertility in the depths of the dormant winter, a promise of the return of light, warmth and light.

If you claim not to know what you celebrate, here is the trace of it....They have liad to you.

No where will you find where The Apostles instructed us to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Apostles expected us to follow thier example, this means, One has to let go this pagan FEASTIVAL called CHRISTMAS (YULE)

This is men invention, if it was possible they could have inserted it in the scripture, but they couldn't because God has alway promised to preserved his word.

ISAIAH 40:8 -- “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Psalm 33:11,PSALM 111:7-8, ISAIAH 59:21

Are Christians today following example? Did Paul and others Celebrated Christ birth NO....

Todaynatoday: Okay, by the power so vested in me, I hereby declare this thread suspended indefinitely. Everybody should go for a 7-day fasting & prayer session asking for revelation on the true nature of God. Frankly, this argument is not going to help anybody. This trininity issue has been overflogged several times on this site and I want it to finally come to an end. We must either agree or forever hold our peace. Now, I suggest that we all pray & ask God (don't ask me which God oo, if na trinity God u wan pray to make u pray and if na one God u wan pray, make u pray. My own be say we must agree and end this issue) to reveal Himself to us so that we can get a better understanding of who He truly is. I'm serious ooo, nobody must post anything here again if God has not revealed anything to him or her. Let us begin to pray for a revelation!!!!!!!
The Apostles could have made it plain if be it. But no, they didn't because God is ONE, this has not changed and cannot change.

Trinity has a strong force that, it keeps blind eyes to all plain Scripture. They have no the Apostles practice this doctrine.

truthislight: Jesus is not the alpha and Omega, that is Yahweh.

Now, let me show you what the jews belied about Jesus and who they were expecting.

Also, who Jesus accepted he is publicly:

Finally two came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God
and rebuild it in three days.’” 62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this
testimony that these men are bringing against
you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under
oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the
Messiah, the Son of God.” 64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
“But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man
sitting at the right hand of God and coming in the clouds of heaven.”[a] (matthew 26:60-63)

"Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. " (John 4:22).

Salvation originate with the Jews, stop twisting scriptures and take what they believe else you are on your own.
This is where He proved trinity doctrine completely wrong....He could not have denied if He was God, after all, He knew He will be killed!

He never was refering to Himself as you can see, He is His father's spokes man.

For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.

John 8:26 "I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is reliable, and what I have heard from him I tell the world."

The Father speaking through Jesus:

John 14:10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
