Scotland is far more developed than most of the geo political zones clamouring for independence in Nigeria and still, they voted to remain part of the United Kingdom. If we put our acts together as a country, we are far better off as one big united country. Nigeria must remain a big, united and indivisible union. All we need to make it work is to vote for good leaders based on merit and not tribal/ religious sentiment.

ihedinobi2: I actually find this somewhat believable. I'm pretty sure that buying arms from Russia could severely strain our relationship with America. It may be less severe with China but there is a question of China's own self-interest.

America can block arms trade with another party by threatening either some interest of Nigeria's or some interest of the selling country. It's not like they lack the ability to do so. Some countries can call their bluff but how many really can? And of those who can, what else besides hard currency would it cost Nigeria to buy from them? If the sellers are few, Nigeria's bargaining power drops significantly.

Also, the human rights claim is not unbelievable. We ourselves complain a lot about how the armed forces from the police force all the way up to the intelligence operatives disregard human life and simply use their martial training to mete out any treatment that suits them to people they feel threatened by or simply find intolerable somehow.

Altogether, this is a believable story, I think. Not saying it's absolutely true. That's just what I think.

Second scenario is that you want to buy wares that the International community are not willing to sell. In that case you go through private negotiators to get d arms through the backdoor. Nigeria is in war! You defend your territory first before u start talking about due process . Another reason for the transaction maybe to beat d Mole! It is obvious that book haram has infiltrated the military so much they will know what Fg is buying and when it will arrive if you use normal channels. With cash nobody knows what you are buying and when. I can bet my life the deal was done because of one or all d above reasons but FG can never come to say so cos such information require maximum classification. Be informed Nigerians. The international community will not defend Nigeria..... Only FG will and in War all is fair. 1). Whatever fraternity Wole Soyinka created, started off as a fraternity, and has remained a fraternity - without any record whatsoever of extremism associated with what cultism is about. However, Yusuf started his Boko Haram as a religious cult with extremism and, from the get-go sectarianism has been the objective, albeit it has moved to insurgency now.

2). Also, like someone posited on the first page: the ideals of what Wole Soyinka created were for: against ethnicity, humanistic ideals, and comradeship and chivarly. However, what Yusuf created, even based on its name "Boko Haram" was against everything western - and waging a jihad based on extremism against that. Hence after he died, the doctrine of the group today is based on the Yusufiyya doctrine - which is pure religious extremism.

Based on my own scholarship, the fraternity Wole Soyinka created has maintained the fraternity status...unlike the cultism in Nigeria which is more or less another form of extremism. Learn to separate the two. I guess it has more to do with the level of education of folks than anything else.

Calling whatever Wole Soyinka started is like saying because Huey Newton started the Black Panthers - and the bloods and crips were also modelled after the panthers when they started out - Huey Newton and Black Panthers are responsible for the gangsterism of the bloods and crips.
