Although it took some time principally because of the recesses declared by the Senate (President Jonathan respects the doctrine of Separation of Powers) Mr. President came up with a stellar cabinet. The cabinet includes tested hands like: Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, immediate past Managing Director of the World Bank and former Finance Minister who superintended Nigeria's exit from the Paris and London Club of debtors. Dr. Olusegun Aganga, a former Managing Director at Goldman Sachs International. Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, a former Vice President at the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (established by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with the goal of bringing a green revolution to Africa). Prof. Bart Nnaji, a former World Bank consultant and professor of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Robotics amongst others. Dr. Mohammed Ali Pate, former Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA); and Mrs. Omobola Johnson, Former Chair Person and Country Director Accenture Nigeria. In the history of Nigerian cabinets from pre-independence to date, no cabinet has had the quantum of stellar appointments as President Jonathan has in his first cabinet post election. Conclusion Great team! Their ability to deliver will be measured by the support given to them by Nigerians, It is also reassuring to have the person of Okonjo Iweala (Co-ordinating minister) whose antecedent precedes her. Corruption in the Finance Ministry (and other ministries) will be reduced drastically under her eagle-like eyes. I see hope in the horizon. The next three years will be very eventful in a positive way for Nigerians who are hungry for the elusive dividend of democracy! A new daw has come! |

Your attempt to wrap this thread around yourself is childish, attention seeking, self serving, and downright silly (and that's putting it mildly).
This thread is not about you and your intellectual ability (or lack of it). It is about GEJ sacking his counter terrorism adviser, and whether it has an effect or not on the boko haram menace. Kobojunkie: I don't sit supposing I am the president. I don't engage in such.
Plus, why should I propose meaningful action when someone, who pretended to have the answers, got the job. So why ask me? Why not ask the person whom you hired what he intends to do about SOLVING THE PROBLEM? You should have asked him that last year since this whole debacle started about this time last two years, and we had all of last year to work aggressively to stop this from escalating to the point it has gotten today. Ask him what he has really done to develop the country security-wise, since his first year in office. It is clear to any person out there that our police force remains a gang for incompetent agbero's with badges. Why hasn't any of that changed? Ask him What was done to UPROOT this menace, among others, back during his first year. What failed? What is being done now to make sure this does not go any further?
These are some of the questions we ought to direct at the right authorities, not some random individual on the web, who expressed his solid view and opinion on what we have all witnessed, over the past couple of years, in that country. In other words, you are clueless? |

gists: All of these if done correctly will work. But the problem is; for how long? These in my view are short term solutions. Remember the BH leader was killed during Ya'rdua administration. But what do we have now? A bigger and even more deadly BH. Your item 7 looks desirable, but we will be sending a very wrong message across to the other regions of the country. Why should it be just able bodied individuals of the group? Does that not mean for you to get attention in Naija, you have to be a militant or BH or other maniac? I'll rather have a working policy that enable people get jobs or can be enterprenues so as to reduce poverty. The points I itemized are not short term fixes; they are however long term complementary strategies used to combat terrorism. You deploy the military immediately to draw targets, and distract the terrorist, and give you a semblance of security while you tackle the root cause. Without step one, you cannot achieve anything. On the issue of employing able bodied men, dont get me wrong. I am not proposing a reward system for terrorist. However, I am of the opinion that if you can engage as many honest people as possible, you draw potential terrorist away from Boko Haram influence. Still, there is no silver bullet to the problem, tenacity and ability of the security agencies and policy makers to adapt (and quick) will help in a lot of way though. |
Politics › Re: Jonathan Fires Adviser On Counterterrorism by PointB(op): 4:18pm On Sep 05, 2011 |
Kobojunkie: I will!Boko Haram was practically an unknown group this time last year. However, due to the security vacuum in the country, which still prevails to this day, the group has been allowed to develop to the menace it is today, and I dare to say it is too late to expect this problem will go away anytime soon. I even expect more terrorist groups to rise if the current situation continues.
When it comes to Nigeria, I think symbolic gestures counts for zilch. I prefer full meaningful action. Fair enough. We can agree to disagree. Now what do you propose? How will you carry on supposing you were the president? What meaningful action will you deploy? How will you prevent another loss of live, and rid the country of Boko Haram. In what timeline? |
Politics › Re: Jonathan Fires Adviser On Counterterrorism by PointB(op): 3:52pm On Sep 05, 2011 |
Kobojunkie: I saw that but his explanation of what that potentially meant, especially in this case, is sort of apt. Too many lives have been lost due to obvious incompetence on the part of our security personnel, in this.
I am not shouting 'hooray!' either. This is only an adviser that got fired and not much else since they have no power to change much of what is going on. I wont be quick to blame the lost of lives solely on incompetence on part of the FG. The security challenge posed by Boko Haram is quiet complex, that no silver bullet can fix it. The problem need to be clearly understood before being tackled. While the loss of live is very sad, condemnable, and even abominable, no one can really claim they are preventable. That said, firing the Adviser on Counter terrorism in my opinion is symbolic; I doubt if it will stop the menace, Fight against terrorism is a battle for hearts and minds as much as it is physical. |
Politics › Re: Jonathan Orders Ministers To Submit Four-year Plans by PointB: 3:41pm On Sep 05, 2011 |
Kobojunkie: I believe that already happens. Only this news pretends to show that not to be the case, which is not true. The Communication minister, I believe, already showcased her plans to the nation, back sometime last month. I remember reading the Former Minister of Transports plan on the ministry website, same with Education. A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The President actually demanded for measurable and achievable plans from all the ministers. “Their targets will also include timelines within which they will implement those programmes. “Jonathan said he will not accept the usual flat proposals which successive ministers had indulged in. He felt that having been in charge of their respective ministries in the last two months, the ministers should be able to come up with concrete and realisable plans. The bolded shows the difference between the old and the new ways of drafting the proposal. It's a markedly different from what according the GEJ, what they were used to doing before. Cut the the guy some slack! |

There is no silver-bullet solution to the Boko Haram menace. However, the steps taken by government so far in view of limited capacity is in order. Here is what I would have done. 1. Militarize the Boko Haram Zone (already done) 2. Infiltrate their ranks (eliminated top leaders, and create internal strifes) 3. Re-organise Security chiefs (partially done or in progress) 4. Solicit help from influential northerners (they seem not to be co-operating, or weighing their position) 5. Promise handsome rewards for tangible and actionable information on leadership of the group (not sure if this has been done and to what extent) 6. Massive radio, TV, print media, propaganda against Boko haram 7. Massive training and employment of jobless able bodied individuals in government sponsored project (more like done for MEND) (Not amnesty though) 8. Building of schools (Western Education styled schools) and encouragement of free and compulsory education in the North. 9. Of course deportation of suspicious illegal aliens (In progress) 10. Targeted and discriminate arrest, interrogation, and monitoring of suspects (in progress) 11. Declaration of curfew, and state of emergency, etc, (partially) None of these is guaranteed to work in isolation, but over time, they are bound to yield result, working together. Unfortunately, patience seems to be what distinguishes GEJ from Nigerians generally, and Nairalanders specifically. |

the passengers are clear, you see if u think well i am sure it is very clear
In southern Nigeria, you have 3 commerical capital, 1 hoilday resuiirt
lagos, warri, port harcount, cross river/calabar
Now, Yorubas are flocking in to port harcount everyday so it works well for yorubas in lagos ogun, ondo
trade point in port harcount and warri , calabar would be used by the people over there
Now here is the thinking the SS used.
by doing so it makes this cities in the SS more commericial and act as trade point. I don't care if they are igbo or not as i am not tribalist and don't intenetd to turn this to anther triabal ranting
all i know is SE is not in this so call scheme. which is good. also no igbo in SS. ecpecially port harcount , i don't know about anioma some are still fighting
i guess that is igbo buisness not mine. all i know is that it gives SS more power. and very soon the NC are doing theres from kwara to benue straight through oyo to lagos.
NW would join soon as well. Now it is up to the SE to build their's as well. unless the governors don't want to do it which is OK Fatherless son, and his paralogism! |

South-South To Build Regional Rail Line To Connect Lagos
Written by Bolaji Ogundele, Port Harcourt I t has been disclosedthat the regional effortsat structural and economic development in the South-South region or in any other part of Nigeria does not threaten the nation's federalism, rather it deepens it.
Director General of the Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta (BRACED) Commission, Ambassador Joe Keshi, made this statement during a media parley in Port Harcourt at the weekend. He also disclosed plans by the region to work with the Federal Government on making its trans-regional rail project a success.
Keshi further said that the stakeholders of the region feel the time to develop the region is now that they still have the resources to do so, noting that the BRACED Commission, though not a "contract awarding organisation," would provide the direction to realise the development dream.
"Federalism is not dead; what we and other regions are trying to do here is strengthen the fabrics of our national existence.
"There is no way the states of this zone can work together to industrialise and develop its economy, that it will not overflow to other regions, particularly to its neighbours. So, it is strengthening the fabrics of our existence," he said. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/4/610.html |

Imo State Recovers 100 Vehicles 'Stolen' By Former Public OfficersFrom Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri IMO State government has recovered more than 100 vehicles allegedly carted away by public office holders of the immediate past regime in the state.
State Recovers 100 Vehicles 'Stolen' By Former Public Officers

Chairman of the task force on recovery of public properties, Dr. Placid Ekwueme, disclosed this to journalists in Owerri at the weekend.
Ekwueme, who briefed reporters alongside the secretary of the committee, Larry Ajaero, however exonerated the immediate past governor, Ikedi Ohakim, of carting away government vehicles.
Instead, he accused him of allegedly approving the use of public funds for the purchase of several Toyota Camry cars, which were distributed as gifts to politicians.
Ekwueme vowed that his committee would recover all such vehicles, promising also that the source of purchase of any vehicle seized would be ascertained.
According to him, a debt of about N100 million hangs on the neck of the present administration, while the dealer who sold the cars has begun to make demands for payment.
The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief Blyden Amajiruowu, last week, alerted the public that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), led by Chief Rochas Okorocha, is using the task force to hunt PDP officials, including the Organising Secretary of the party in the state, Chief Linus Iroha.
He disclosed that the task force also recovered some vehicles from the a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, adding that a past Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, allegedly carted away seven government vehicles, of which three have been recovered.
According to him, the matter is in court, and the committee will not do anybody any harm, but "we will take government cars any where they are parked." The task force chairman disclosed that at inauguration, his committee had a list of about 34 former office holders who took away government properties.
He regretted that after a two-week grace period and failure to cooperate, the task force had no option but to enforce its mandate. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/4/21.html |
