kodewrita:Well, that appears the case here, so if you dont like the way the president is running his government forward march to Aso Rock and tell him; you can only win sympathizers from the Buhari apologists, and I tell you they are very few (of course loudest). But those who have actually being in position to run things, manage people and project, know how difficult and challenging it can be meeting with timelines, objectives, and deliverables. And were are not even talking about a corporate project, we are talking about a bastardized, tribalized country, with extensive problems stemming from geo-political and economic challenges, and now serious security problem bring the country to a brink. In fact in another world and age, the president will actually spend more time trying to keep the country one, for what it is worth, leaving to so-called development at the mercy of the elements. fortunately that is not the case. On that note, only naive, foolish and extremely ignorant people will expect a miracle in 18 months. Fortunately I am not one of those, I understand the complexities of politics, governance, and challenges the president faces. So I rather laugh or pity those unfortunate souls who run their temperature high, and swear and curse the president at every chance and turn. I sometimes suggest in extreme cases that they can actually do themselves a favour viz they should either summon courage and march to Aso rock like the Save Nigeria Group, or go hug a high tension wet transformer at one of the power stations. |

Question is, why are the worker on strike if indeed he has paid? Anyone one with an answer? |
Beaf:I agree. Ileke-IdI:Seconded! okada_man:Without wasting any seconds. Let the probes and investigations begin! |
blacksta:No plans! Some are saying there are too many plans and no action, now you are saying no plans? Na wa oo. I tire for Nairalanders. Did you really mean to say that or you rather just want to add your name to this debate, by saying the first thing on your mind? |
kodewrita:Those are seeds he was talking about. He who fails to plan, plans to fail. “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six hours sharpening my ax”. Abraham Lincoln |
Pukkah:True. But not those who also fail to see the truth in his effort; the perpetual and profession pessimism mongers! ![]() |

Nigerians have no iota of doubt on the integrity of Mrs. Okonjo Iweala. We believe her efforts to tackle corruption in high places will be successfully. The challenges she is facing now is usual - when you fight corruption, it fights back according to Ribadu. |

@topic @Topic, They should start like their counterpart from the south: Send children to school, to acquire functional education. Islamic schools have its benefits, and certainly more disadvantages in a secular county like Nigeria. Northern leaders, nay, discerning parents from Core North, need no rockets scientists to tell them so. Take a look around. Most Core Northerners cannot rub shoulders with the peers from the South, in education, intellect, and quality of live. This is not disparaging, and besides I am quoting their leaders. The SE/SS has long closed the educational gap, that existed after the war, with the SW to the benefit of Nigeria. NC is catching up fast! Where are you oh NE, NW, where are your children? What are you waiting for, another Presidency? To do what exactly? You cannot have political power forever, in fact you dont need it, it is distraction! Besides, your continually seeking for political power is creating unease with other part of the country. SE/SS at the peek of marginalization embraced education, as the choices where limited. This is your chance to do something for the next generation, focus on the next 25 years, not on 2015! Northern governors and leaders should start pushing for free and compulsory education of western up to secondary levels for their next generation. The Almajiri system has exploded literally in their face, it is not beneficial in 21st century modern Nigeria, and world. Dantata, Dangote, etc should start scholarship schemes like Rochas (even if it means helping only northerners); as a matter of fact, they should sponsor train the trainer (Teacher's Education) for willing and dedicated people. In the South, people send money for our siblings school fees and that - so Dangote's assistance may not be directly needed. Political power has not benefit the North, rather, it has disenfranchised and pauperized them . To continue to do the same thing the same way and expect a different result is the beginning of insanity. North must change strategy! Insistence on political and religious power as an end by itself is their greatest undoing. The SE has over the years built capacity - intellectually and economically (and are still building). SW has been on top of their game many years ahead of their peers; aided by the fact that unlike the SE/SS and North, they didn't lose hundreds of thousand of their sons, let alone millions, during the civil war as their sons and daughters were getting educated while the country smoldered in the bitter war! If the North fails to hearken to the need to upgrade the gray matter of their children with functional education, and continue to use the game of numbers - politics- as a tool for relevance and dominance, it is only a matter of time before the worse happen. And when it does, they could find the rest of Nigeria unforgiving and unfaltering. They would then have to play their last card, and hope that it be a Joker! And on a lighter note, I am tired of the Southern (SE, SS, SW) intellectual war on Nairaland, when are we going to square off with droves of (core) Northern intellectuals? Hopefully they will be around to confront our children in intellectual banter. Hopefully. . . ![]() |

^^- There are four or thereabout. MTN, AirTel, OneTouch, Tigo (all GSM), Kasapa (CDMA), and Glomobile (Work in progress since 2006) |
ACN are incapable of corruption, they are mainly a crop of saintly people, not from the usual Nigerian politicians. I wont be surprised if that Ikuforiji guy is from PDP. ![]() |
pinkrex:lol. I am not pessimistic either. They are discussing with other interested party, but keeping glo on their radar. My suggestions have been made earlier, but let me reiterate. 1. They should consider the other firms [s]The decision to give it to Globacom despite the fact that[/s] some other firms like Brymedia, the third place bid winner of the terminated bid and other firms were offering double what Globacom is offerings[s] was because it will turn the ailing entity around for the benefit of Nigerians.[/s]There is no guarantee that glo will deliver. They have not delivered in Ghana after 5 years of incursion. 2. If they finally, sell Nitel to Glo, then they need to correct the imbalance (monopoly) by awarding the Second National Carrier license to another operator. That's what I said. |
greateros:Fighting corruption is the collective portfolio of all government officials, nay, all Nigerians. Since corruption mostly involved money, who better spearhead the fight other than the fellow who holds the purse, and co-ordinate other officials? I think the Finance Minister know what she is about. |
Another hatchet job, by Buhari apologist, and sore losers. ![]() |
^^^ Word! |
pinkrex:The crux of my point is that, the advantages of being designated as National Carriers should not be left in the hands of same man, same management, in the name of different company. It is called monopoly. Monopolies do not favour consumers! |
pinkrex:The term - National Carrier is pregnant with a lot of meaning. And that is where the monopoly lies. If Glo were to buy Nitel, then another company - Airtel or MTN should be given National Carrier (whatever that entails) status. Otherwise, Government will be creating unneeded monopoly. |
^^^^ That is the |
pinkrex:Why does Government need to intervene to curtail the excesses of a monopoly, when it shldn't be creating any at all. The reason Glo was given a Second National Carrier status was to break Nitel's monopoly., hence there is no need creating another. Between government intervention and market forces, I choose market forces. From the news The decision to give it to Globacom despite the fact that some other firms like Brymedia, the third place bid winner of the terminated bid and other firms were offering double what Globacom is offerings was because it will turn the ailing entity around for the benefit of Nigerians. Now if these other companies show evidence of technical competence why not concentrate on them rather than glo. By the way, Glo has been in Ghana for over 5 years without rolling out a single line. Are they not overrated, even though that is beside the point? |
efisher:Another GEJ/PDP apologists, by all knowing, infallible Gbawe's opinion is born! Welcome to the club brother. ![]() |
