God save us from the mischievious, the ignorant & things that go thump in the dark. edicolove, section 28 of the constitution is cast in stone.A natural-born citizen cannot lose it under any circumstance except voluntary renounciation.Section 29 makes voluntary renounciation the most difficult exercise you can ever embark upon poltically. Again, section 25 recognises dual-citizenship by confering nigerian citizenship on anyone born anywhere in the world who has a nigerian parent,or anyone born in nigeria who has a grandparent who is a nigerian. Akala is being had by his lawyers who are out to make quick buck since it is expected there won't be much petitions to pick n choose from this year. |
@Alxmyr: Nothing affects the right of a natural-born nigerian to contest for any post except voluntary renounciation of citizenship.Section 28 is very clear and is not subject to any other section.Akala is being played for the fool he is by his counsels. |
PS:All sections dealing with qualification for executive offices are subject to the provisions of section 28 which is already settled. As i said,a very silly case. |
A very silly case.Section 28(1) of the constitution makes it clear that a nigerian citizen by birth cannot lose it even if he/she takes up another country's nationality.Only citizens by naturalization or registration loses their nigerian citizenship if they take on another country's citizenship other than their country of birth. Section 29 even makes it difficult to voluntarily relinquish a natural-born citizenship.I'll advise PDP's lawyers & the numerous ignorant posters here to grab a copy of the constitution & read it,unless they are being mischievious. The Supreme court even settled this in the case of AC vs Maurice Iwu in 2009. |
Beware of the Greeks and the gifts they bear. That sums up my reaction to that story and i believe Buhari got it. |
