thelastPope: What is the right thing? a federal high court made a ruling. Who told you they are right? It will definitely continue up to the supreme court to get a clear interpretation of the law.Stop exhibiting ur ignorance here. All appointments to the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and Joint Forces Commands must be approved by the US Senate, even appointments to political posts that carry National Security passes excepting that of National Security Advisor. I'll give u an example, when Marine General Mike Allen was appointed to replace Gen Petraus as commander of US n multinational forces in Afghanistan,he had to go thru Senate screening. Do get urself rightly informed ere u spout such stite here. 'Sides, the Armed Forces Act 2004 as duly interpreted by the judge says such appointment must undergo Senate approval so it matters not what any other country does,we must respect n enforce our own laws. |
emk4lif: Seasoned Lawyer my foot, Amaechi never sudied Law, graduated wit a third class in english Studies from Uniport , spent the bulk of his time as a student union leader...compare with GEJ who graduated with a high 2.1 from the same schoolGEJ graduated with a 2.1?.Jesus wept |
1MCN: I can only direct you to the clause that supports my opinion only if you'd pay for the knowledge. Just post the charge thru my email and wait for the answer in not more than 12hrs. Yes, am Igbo! If knowledge is power, we know power costs a thing.Nwanne ndo o. There's no such clause (section) in the constitution, quit displaying ur ignorance now. There's no prize for it. |
1MCN: First of all, this source (OluFamous.com) is something less than a reliable authority.Dude, which constitution have u been reading?.Cos it definitely is not the CFRN 1999,as amended.. Suggesting likely areas of amendment to a bill does not preclude the NASS from overriding a presidential veto.Be well informed ere u prate such stite on a public forum as this. |
porka: Your innuendo not withstanding.Nope,it's 7years not 14.That is,if u were referring to the appropriate sections of the criminal code. The new bill is yet to be conferenced and signed into law. @Op,my take is we should let them be so far they are not too obnoxious about their lifestyle. 'Sides,I used to think marriage laws are supposed to be the preserve of states.Didn't realize it's now within the purview of the federal legislature |
Symphony007: go study the constitution, a 2/3 majority of the national assembly can overule a presidential veto; even in the united states.Comprehension,dude.Read my post again, this time slowly.Better still,go read the relevant sections of the CFRN.My beef was with the reporter's n the Op's use of the word veto. The National Assembly do not veto bills, they override Presidential vetoes by passing same bill with 2/3rd majority. The President vetoes a bill by withholding assent 30 days or more after such bill has duly been passed. Comprende? |
Does the National Assembly veto bills or override Presidential vetoes?.What manner of people we call journalists these days. |
julioralph: cardinal Arinze is ineligible cause he's above the maximum age.You got it wrong. He's not eligible to vote, but can be voted for.All baptised male Catholics can be voted as Pope, even twelve-year olds |
Those who bring in ant-infested firewood, should expect visits from lizards.Nuff said. |
nwabobo: She is Igbo. In fact she is from Anambra but "God delivered her from the hands of Igbo men"Wrong. She is from Abia,Arochukwu.Married to an Imo guy,but grew up in Anambra.Maybe that qualifies her to have a say,but not to the extent she went with that post |
nwabobo: What has Ifeanyi Ubah's declaration of interest got to do with the state? He is free to declare his interest as well as contest. We will respond to his declaration at the polls. Hope he doesn't borrow more money to finance the project else that would add to his debt profile.Bless u,nwannem |
Sincere 9gerian: @Gbawe..,is clearly acting like a drowning man on this thread. How can anyone reconcile the irreconcilable post below:To further impress on you what Gbawe's epistle is all about,I quote from the Gambler's Advice to wit:'.....You never count your money, while still seating at the table. There be time enough for counting when the deal is done'. What just ended is Act 1,Scene 2.You don't yet know how the drama will end so don't exult yet ere you find yourself eating crow at the end. I hope you have wits enough to grasp what I've been saying. |
The Pope the richest man when every Catholic diocese is administratively autonomous or semi-autonomous and financially independent?.This is as stewpid as stewpid gets. @Op,educate yourself if you don't know anything about the Catholic church before you think to post such drivel again. |
Evil Brain: Not every state recognizes the Vatican's statehood. It's not recognized by the UN for one, so his diplomatic immunity is suspect.Idjit, the Vatican is a sovereign state with an observer status at the UN.Observer cos it CHOSE to be,didn't want to get involved in day-to-day UN politics. You are entitled to self-service to any conspiracy folly of ur choosing, but u can't go about twisting facts |
Tales By Moonlight,as brought to you by the Tribune courtesy of the PDP. If any of you truly believe this tale, then I got a crock of blue butter to sell you. |
jennifer74: Cardinal Arinze is eighty years old, and just like other cardinals age eighty and above, is ineligible to vote in the conclave or be voted for. Only cardinals who are under eighty on the day the Holy See becomes vacant would be entitled to vote even if they turned eighty by the time the conclave start.Ineligibility to vote doesn't stop one from being voted for.Gees, get ur facts right. Theoretically, all baptised male Catholics are eligible to be Pope. The Cardinals, however go for such a person whose views or philosophies is known, mostly one of their own. |
iykak47: So what, stop making noise you have only one vote.Same as u. Not making any noise, just putting things in their proper perspective. It gets my groat when peeps now equate the SE with the PDP on here, when in reality PDP is hated with passion especially in my state,Anambra. Did u read where Tukur lied about the PDP controlling the state house of assembly, when in reality APGA has a slim majority followed by PDP n ACN?.Enough of the lies |
Before any of u lackwits start questioning my origins,I'm a full-blooded Nnewi man,from Uruagu quarters.If u wish to know my village,inbox me. That's for u @losthope |
thelastPope: You are funny. Which south east? lol! Which south easterner will vote for Buhari? Maybe those money induced Igbo muslims!I've voted for Buhari three times in a row,my family too the first two occasions(2003 & 2007).We are comfortable here, generally well educated n ENLIGHTENED,so ur innuendo holds no water. All APC or Buhari need do to get a chunk of SE votes is to pair with an economically sound, politically known Igbo from the SE or SS and u'll see igbos in their numbers kiss GEJ goodbye.I'm not the naive type like u lot,so I acknowledge GEJ still have a lot of support from igbos, not because he has achieved anything, but for Old Eastern solidarity.Offer us a better deal n its sayonara. All now lies with the APC n the kind of manifesto/characters they put up for public office. That itself depends on their own calculations n permutations |
take dat: PDP will win in the SW? You've got a snowballs chance in hell!Dude,I am from the SE,Nnewi to be precise.GEJ is not getting up to 60% were the elections to hold today.I just laughed when I read this wishlist of an article. This is what we call 'okwu nkasiobi' my side.PDP was seriously blindsided by the merger, they didn't expect it to come true. Now they are scrambling, trying to play some psychological game on the opposition. |
naptu2: Anthony Cardinal Okogie retired last year, so he can't become pope, neither will he vote in the electionOkogie retired as Metropolitan,a serving bishop, not as a Cardinal. There's no age limit to being a Cardinal, only age limit on who can vote. Theoretically, all baptised Catholic males qualify to be Pope. The College of Cardinals in practice, however,go for someone they know or know of,most likely one of their own. BTW,the age limit on voting Cardinals is 80years.Not sure Cardinal Okogie is 80 yet, could be wrong about his age tho |
There's no such thing as right of first refusal in the United States political scene as stated in the article.Nomination for political posts is open to all eligible party men regardless whether the incumbent is interested in contesting or not.Chrissakes,Ronald Reagan primaried Gerald Ford tho he lost.Same for Edward M.Kennedy who gave James Earl Carter a run for his money.Funny thing tho, both primaried incumbents went on to lose at the general election. Candidates are affirmed in conventions/general or special elections, only if there's no one else interested in contesting those post either at the primary level or the election itself. An example is Senator Pryor of Arkansas who got nearly a 100% vote return cos no one challenged him for the party ticket or at the general election of 2008. Even if there's only one candidate contesting unopposed, the electorate still have the liberty of writing in a candidate of their choice,if state electoral law allows it,and if the write-in candidate get most of the votes he/she wins.Example is Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who was re-elected via write-in votes at the 2010 mid-term election after she lost the Republican party primary n ticket to a Tea party backed candidate. |
naijaswag: FYI: Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze ISN'T ELIGIBLE to become pope. He turned 80 in Nov, which disqualifies him from voting/being named. He isn't disqualified from being elected, just from voting. All Cardinals aged 80 n above cannot vote, but they can observe the proceedings n provide some guidance when necessary, but they are not barred from being voted for |
Dudu_Negro: i told una yanmiri should be shipped to congo to live among his pygymy kith and kin. which one be maseilla masalla?Ijjit!.That's a Middle-beltan name.Must u post when u have nothing worthwhile to contribute?. Ma r'ori k'o to type now. |
gratiaeo: I am aware there was a canker named Chekwas Okorie (who has now formed n registered his own party),I am aware that all the various court rulings have affirmed Victor Umeh as the APGA chairman. This your Mshellia,I know not.Ifedi Okwenna,if am not mistaken,is the renegade who left Obi's govt to join forces with the PDP prior to the 2010 elections.Like I wrote earlier, the voice even the arm is that of the PDP.You can even see for yourself how they've gone into a frenzy here on nairaland since the merger came thru. The PDP n it's minions were blindsided, they didn't believe it possible, now they are scrambling. |
take dat: To hell with the irrelevant Mseilla Masalla faction of APGA. Victor Umeh is the duly recognised Chairman of APGA, any other is a counterfeit.Nna,I tire o.This is the first time am hearing such name and am a lapsed member of APGA. For those posters throwing insults about,I would advise u take with a large dose of salt any release u read from the so-called faction. That is PDP at work.I believe they are stunned the merger came thru and are afraid, very afraid. |
The guy really disappoints.smh |
Prof Corruption: If you can see it, what is there to highlight again?Did u actually read the same article I read?.Where is the rebuttal to Iloh's account?.Highlight the paragraph. n line please cos I can't see it.Agbakoba only situated the part as concern his father in it proper context.Aside that wth are u talking about? |
ROSSIKE: ^^After you charge your battery, tell us what Ronald Reagan (a Hollywood actor) achieved prior to taking up the presidency.Reagan was governor of California.Schwarzeneggar helped run California's economy aground before Brown took over n is now turning things around. Dude,u are making Afam's argument for him.Give it up |
ROSSIKE: @poster, this stuff is all in your head........uhm dude,Hillary never governed New York. She was the junior senator from New York,a seat she won by large margins her two elections. |
Demdem: whatever ills or evils that may have happened in the past, does that justifies the present ills. remember that we are in an era of transformation which u all support? what does transformation suggest to u?You also have to take into consideration the fact that all senior Army promotions and retirements are done by the Army Council chaired by the President, with the Minister of Defence as Vice Chairman. The COAS does not the powers to promote or retire. Not saying there might not be some underhand business going on at the nomination level,as we don't know and none has cried foul so far,but to accuse the COAS of denying promotions/advancing his ethnic interests via promotion and retirement of others thusly is stretching credulity too far.If you believe the contents of this missive, then I have a crock of blue butter to sell you. |
Malawian: is it me, or does rivers state border anambra state in that map? a fukwa mu otu.Actually,Anambra does border Rivers state. The border is minute,I admit but I didn't actually believe it until an Ekiti friend supplied some maps from the NBC showing that.Used to think that area was all Imo |
what language is that?
