PoliticsRe: Appointment Of Military Service-Chiefs Declared Illegal by pokur: 11:43am On Jul 02, 2013
thelastPope: What is the right thing? a federal high court made a ruling. Who told you they are right? It will definitely continue up to the supreme court to get a clear interpretation of the law.

On another note, I havent heard of a country that sends their service chiefs nominees to the legislators to approve. There are things that a president should have total control of. Things like military. Have you ever seen Obama sending his military service chiefs nominees to the senate? A president must put is own loyal men in key military positions else he could be easily assasinated, even in America. Some of you need to read a few books on governance.
Stop exhibiting ur ignorance here. All appointments to the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and Joint Forces Commands must be approved by the US Senate, even appointments to political posts that carry National Security passes excepting that of National Security Advisor.
I'll give u an example, when Marine General Mike Allen was appointed to replace Gen Petraus as commander of US n multinational forces in Afghanistan,he had to go thru Senate screening.
Do get urself rightly informed ere u spout such stite here.
'Sides, the Armed Forces Act 2004 as duly interpreted by the judge says such appointment must undergo Senate approval so it matters not what any other country does,we must respect n enforce our own laws.

1MCN: I can only direct you to the clause that supports my opinion only if you'd pay for the knowledge. Just post the charge thru my email and wait for the answer in not more than 12hrs. Yes, am Igbo! If knowledge is power, we know power costs a thing.
Nwanne ndo o.
There's no such clause (section) in the constitution, quit displaying ur ignorance now. There's no prize for it.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Can't Dictate To Us! 6yrs Tenure Must Start In 2015 ––senate Dares Pres by pokur:
1MCN: First of all, this source (OluFamous.com) is something less than a reliable authority.
I personally listened to a live interview granted by Ike Ekweremadu on Thursday on Raypower's Political Platform radio programme and this question about targeted individual(s) and date of kick off was asked and he responded by saying the committee never made any recommendations about date of kick off or mentioned who benefits.
It was Jonathan that made this proposal of single tenure 1st, so if it would exclude him and he's interested he'll simply thwart it. How can he do that? When all is said and done at NASS and he couldnt have his way, he'll wait for them to submit it to his table for assenting. By the 1999 constitution he must do this not later than 30 working days from the day of submission otherwise the Assembly automatically overrides it. But if he makes just one single suggestion or correction they start all over again from 1st reading.
So what does he need to do? He'll wait till the 29th day and then send them an amendment or objection. Hopefully by this time it's already mid-2014. With the old constitution already functional. Then you know what that means.
But mind you, this noise about when the clause takes effect and who benefits from it is just been beaten by desperate opposition seeking every possible means to oust Jonathan from office. Most members of this Review Committee are PDP members so am not sure a sane man will be so highly hopeful that they would want to take that RISK of putting themselves at mercy.
I repeat, the recommendation as presented has no suggestion on take off date or who benefits.
Dude, which constitution have u been reading?.Cos it definitely is not the CFRN 1999,as amended..
Suggesting likely areas of amendment to a bill does not preclude the NASS from overriding a presidential veto.Be well informed ere u prate such stite on a public forum as this.

porka: Your innuendo not withstanding.

We have laws in Nigeria currently against Sodomy.

There are stiff penalties for infractions.

It is the death penalty in Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa, Kebbi, Yobe, Kaduna, Niger and Gombe States.

These states are using the Islamic legal code, Sharia.

For the rest of the country, it is 14 years maximum.

Be guided.
Nope,it's 7years not 14.That is,if u were referring to the appropriate sections of the criminal code. The new bill is yet to be conferenced and signed into law.
@Op,my take is we should let them be so far they are not too obnoxious about their lifestyle.
'Sides,I used to think marriage laws are supposed to be the preserve of states.Didn't realize it's now within the purview of the federal legislature

Symphony007: go study the constitution, a 2/3 majority of the national assembly can overule a presidential veto; even in the united states.
Comprehension, dude.Read my post again, this time slowly.Better still,go read the relevant sections of the CFRN.My beef was with the reporter's n the Op's use of the word veto. The National Assembly do not veto bills, they override Presidential vetoes by passing same bill with 2/3rd majority. The President vetoes a bill by withholding assent 30 days or more after such bill has duly been passed.
Comprende?

PoliticsRe: Anenih Is Elected PDP BoT Chairman by pokur: 6:26pm On Feb 26, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: @Gbawe..,is clearly acting like a drowning man on this thread. How can anyone reconcile the irreconcilable post below:

"People need to ask why GEJ's candidate , for PDP BOT chairman, was cast aside easily by a last minute entrant who is effectively the choice of the Governors and the Northerners in the Party who feel GEJ is a cheat and user who fails to keep to an agreement.
Has it not been enough time to resolve the "deadlock" and reconvene a BOT vote or is it that the President is afraid he will be disgraced again by a Party vehemently resistive to hishighly unpopular and scantily supported ambition? Put to the vote, it is obvious GEJ's candidate will lose if the BOT election is repeated 50 times"....By Gbawe (Feb 9)

"It shows your lack of character you are will to support all this dictatorial actions that is the only way the failed power-drunk dictator in Aso Rock could achieve his vehemently resisted agenda. From now on, I expect GEJ will not put a single thing to the democratic vote".....By Gbawe making reference to the fact that Aneni was elected by consensus as PDP BOT chairman today.

Who can reconcile the above shameless contradictions? Only Gbawe.

This thread opened by stating: "exclusively reported by LEADERSHIP on Sunday, Chief Tony Anenih in the early hours of today was unanimously elected Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a meeting of the party held at the Banquet hall of the presidential villa, Abuja"

The fact in the report was that the PDP BOT chairman was "unanimously elected"(the same thing as consensus), meaning everyone qualified to vote consented to his election. May be Gbawe was expecting INEC or Tinubu to conduct the election? What is dictatorial about a unanimous election in PDP internal affairs?

@Gbawe..,my sincere advice, if you have any iota of shame, admit you mis-fired and apologise.

@Gbawe..,recall I told you I'll bookmark the post above and reproduce it an appropriate time? I kept my promise.

Unfortunately, the moderators blocked other post I reproduced on this thread
To further impress on you what Gbawe's epistle is all about,I quote from the Gambler's Advice to wit:'.....You never count your money, while still seating at the table. There be time enough for counting when the deal is done'.
What just ended is Act 1,Scene 2.You don't yet know how the drama will end so don't exult yet ere you find yourself eating crow at the end.

jennifer74: Cardinal Arinze is eighty years old, and just like other cardinals age eighty and above, is ineligible to vote in the conclave or be voted for. Only cardinals who are under eighty on the day the Holy See becomes vacant would be entitled to vote even if they turned eighty by the time the conclave start.
Ineligibility to vote doesn't stop one from being voted for.Gees, get ur facts right.
Theoretically, all baptised male Catholics are eligible to be Pope. The Cardinals, however go for such a person whose views or philosophies is known, mostly one of their own.

I've voted for Buhari three times in a row,my family too the first two occasions(2003 & 2007).We are comfortable here, generally well educated n ENLIGHTENED,so ur innuendo holds no water.
All APC or Buhari need do to get a chunk of SE votes is to pair with an economically sound, politically known Igbo from the SE or SS and u'll see igbos in their numbers kiss GEJ goodbye.I'm not the naive type like u lot,so I acknowledge GEJ still have a lot of support from igbos, not because he has achieved anything, but for Old Eastern solidarity.Offer us a better deal n its sayonara.

naptu2: Anthony Cardinal Okogie retired last year, so he can't become pope, neither will he vote in the election
Okogie retired as Metropolitan,a serving bishop, not as a Cardinal. There's no age limit to being a Cardinal, only age limit on who can vote.
Theoretically, all baptised Catholic males qualify to be Pope. The College of Cardinals in practice, however,go for someone they know or know of,most likely one of their own.
BTW,the age limit on voting Cardinals is 80years.Not sure Cardinal Okogie is 80 yet, could be wrong about his age tho
PoliticsRe: 2015 Primaries: PDP Considers Right Of First Refusal For Jonathan, Govs by pokur:
There's no such thing as right of first refusal in the United States political scene as stated in the article.Nomination for political posts is open to all eligible party men regardless whether the incumbent is interested in contesting or not.Chrissakes,Ronald Reagan primaried Gerald Ford tho he lost.Same for Edward M.Kennedy who gave James Earl Carter a run for his money.Funny thing tho, both primaried incumbents went on to lose at the general election.
Candidates are affirmed in conventions/general or special elections, only if there's no one else interested in contesting those post either at the primary level or the election itself. An example is Senator Pryor of Arkansas who got nearly a 100% vote return cos no one challenged him for the party ticket or at the general election of 2008.
Even if there's only one candidate contesting unopposed, the electorate still have the liberty of writing in a candidate of their choice,if state electoral law allows it,and if the write-in candidate get most of the votes he/she wins.Example is Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who was re-elected via write-in votes at the 2010 mid-term election after she lost the Republican party primary n ticket to a Tea party backed candidate.

I am aware there was a canker named Chekwas Okorie (who has now formed n registered his own party),I am aware that all the various court rulings have affirmed Victor Umeh as the APGA chairman. This your Mshellia,I know not.Ifedi Okwenna,if am not mistaken,is the renegade who left Obi's govt to join forces with the PDP prior to the 2010 elections.Like I wrote earlier, the voice even the arm is that of the PDP.You can even see for yourself how they've gone into a frenzy here on nairaland since the merger came thru. The PDP n it's minions were blindsided, they didn't believe it possible, now they are scrambling.

Prof Corruption: If you can see it, what is there to highlight again?

He was called to listen to and appreciate a supposedly "detribalised" Nigerian personal history of Biafra. A brief article was written on what supposed to be truly authentic and factual but a factual rebuttal demonstrated that Iloh's actually chose to remember selectively and in substantial terms falsely. Iloh demonstrated a convenient volitional case of amnesia. The so called "detribalised" Nigerian ended up being a fraud and the prospect of exploring a memoir from his story is no longer exciting. Simple

In any case, there could not have been a "detribalised" Nigerian because the word itself does not exist.
Did u actually read the same article I read?.Where is the rebuttal to Iloh's account?.Highlight the paragraph. n line please cos I can't see it.Agbakoba only situated the part as concern his father in it proper context.Aside that wth are u talking about?

ROSSIKE: @poster, this stuff is all in your head.

What makes Hillary Clinton more qualified than any other person to be US secretary of state? All she was was Bill Clinton's wife. I think she had a legal background or something, but she hardly set the world alight with her litigation skills. So why is she secretary of state? What qualifications exactly does she have? She used her money and connections to govern New York earlier on. How did she manage that, and what qualified her for that role?

Obama himself, how exactly is he qualified more than his peers to be US president? Name me his credentials. I can name hundreds of Americans more qualified than him to be in that position. So everyone uses connections to get ahead in this world, not just in Nigeria.

The problem is you already have it in your head that Nigeria is worthless, so you will use every situation you observe, to validate that belief, whether or not it makes sense. Change your belief then you may come to see some worth in your country.
.......uhm dude,Hillary never governed New York. She was the junior senator from New York,a seat she won by large margins her two elections.

No one is saying Igbos shouldnt be promoted but due process must surely be followed even if it wasnt being followed before
You also have to take into consideration the fact that all senior Army promotions and retirements are done by the Army Council chaired by the President, with the Minister of Defence as Vice Chairman. The COAS does not the powers to promote or retire.
Not saying there might not be some underhand business going on at the nomination level,as we don't know and none has cried foul so far,but to accuse the COAS of denying promotions/advancing his ethnic interests via promotion and retirement of others thusly is stretching credulity too far.If you believe the contents of this missive, then I have a crock of blue butter to sell you.
