Nairaland / General / AMORAN Clears Air On Alleged Extortion Of Okada Riders In Ogun by Ponmile001: 11:15am On Jun 21, 2020
Following the recent protest in Abeokuta south local government area of Ogun state by commercial motorcyclists over alleged undue extortion by the government, the Articulated Motorcycle and Riders Association of Nigeria, (AMORAN) states categorically that there are no plans to increase ticketing fees and enforce same on its members.

The union notes that it has become imperative to douse fears of members over further increase in the daily ticket rates, so as to keep the peace and progress of the Union's activities in the gateway State.

AMORAN Chairman, Otunba
Nurudeen Aina Alowonle says the Union has not approved or in anyway supported any upward review in the ticket rates for commercial motorcyclists in Abeokuta south and indeed other parts of the state.

In the meantime, while acknowledging Governor Dapo Abiodun's efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the transport union boss reassures the state government of a renewed commitment to the Covid-19 regulations in the state.

He says AMORAN would galvanize the support of other transport unions in the state to ensure strict compliance with he Covid-19 guidelines.

Alowonle warns that stiffer measures await members caught flouting any of the protocols designed by the state government.

“As a responsible union, we have to ensure that we assist government in curbing the dreaded coronavirus pandemic by obeying its protocols and guidelines as it affects Okada riders "

"The message is simple, we are expected to take one passenger only. We are also expected to use our face masks religiously. Anyone caught flouting this simple order would be dealt with." he says.

Nairaland / General / I Do Not Need Your Blessing To Join APC, Akinyemi Replies Kashamu by Ponmile001: 9:49pm On Jan 12, 2020
My attention has been drawn to an article with the above title which surfaced on various social media and news platforms yesterday, 11th of Jan. 2020 which was credited to one Austin Oniyokor - the Media Adviser to Ex-Senator, Buruji Kashamu. Ordinarily, the article and its contents would have been allowed to remain in the deepest pit of forgetfulness due to its lack of substance but for the calls, texts and WhatsApp messages I have received in respect of same mainly because the pallid article have my names repeatedly mentioned to gain undue attention, I wish to state unequivocally that I, Otunba Kolawole Akinyemi (Tonight) have been in the mainstream of Ogun State politics since 1977/78. As such, my names have remained a strong, popular and relevant brand in politics which does not require Senator Buruji Kashamu's name as a brand to be known in the corridors of Ogun State's politics. It may interest you : Austin Oniyokor to know that Senator Buruji Kashamu only joined Ogun State and by extension, Nigeria politics in 2010 with the introduction of his Omo- Ilu Foundation. The different years between 1977/78 to 2010 are long years of political existence and relevance for anyone to be wished away overnight.

My decision to change my political affiliation from PDP to APC is one of my fundamental human rights provided me by Section 40 of the Constitution of FRN, 1999 and as amended in 2011. Therefore I seek no or require no "permission or blessing" of and from any person to enjoy such right. My declaration for and "DEFECTION" to APC should not be of concern to anyone, or is APC not a recognised political party in Nigeria by INEC ? My declaration and defection to APC was not done in the closet and it was done in my full names without any attachment of anybody's names. Therefore, "DROPPING" of somebody's names name and/or "dropping" of Senator Buruji Kashamu's name does not exist anywhere in my journey to APC. As such, Senator Kashamu's name should not be used as an excuse of taking Ogun State's citizens for a ride for too long. The good people of our dear State are well informed and highly educated to be taken for granted for this so long.

It may be true that since March 2019, there have been no direct communication between Senator Buruji Kashamu and my very self but channels of communications between us are not completely broken down. Communication links have continued to exist between us through proxies to which Austin Oniyokor himself is one. Let your conscience bear you out if actually you have one.

The public acceptance of our association is quite a huge one in the present circumstance; that our association lasted Eleven (11) solid years unbroken in which Senator Buruji Kashamu provided leadership and direction in what is now termed "BREAD AND BUTTER POLITICS" by Austin Oniyokor through his watery article. It cannot be an offence to any sensible person, should I decide to have my politics played in a different playing ground devoid of bread and butter politics. After all, "now is the time for governance and delivery of the dividends of democracy" as stated by Senator Kashamu himself through his media Adviser in the article. Let those who have ears and eyes hear and see what kind of politics that is therein played and preached. I only hope sincerely that the dividends of democracy in Ogun State will not be allowed to continue to be at crisp and craps of some few self appointed leaders of themselves alone.

Finally, if joining APC as a political party in Ogun State and Nigeria in this 21st century is a blackmail to some group of individuals, then I have no apology but to say that let my joining APC remain a blackmail to all those who felt blackmailed for life ! Austin Oniyokor, I hope you will always remember that those who live in a glass house should not throw (play with throwing) stones. Itan tan lenu sugbon o ku sikun.

Politics / Re : Adebutu Set To Dump PDP For APC Over Failed Agreements With Amosun by Ponmile001: 8:01pm On Dec 24, 2019
The attention of Ladi Adebutu Development Organisation (LADO) has been drawn to an unfounded story been spread across social media platforms by some bloggers that lack pedigree saying Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, a National Leader of the Peoples Democratic party in Ogun State is set to join the APC.

The said report which lacks merit in its entirety does not worth any reaction but for the purpose of putting records straight and to assure the general public who have reposed so much trust in Hon. Adebutu that there's no iota of truth in the report.

We therefore advise the peddlers of these lies to desist from actions that can easily heat up the polity in Ogun State for no reason. They should use their time judiciously by opening their minds to learning and aspire to become trusted professionals.

We state unequivocally that Hon. Ladi Adebutu is committed to the development and continued growth of the new PDP in Ogun State that is enjoying peace and unity after series of genuine reconciliation and return of members of the party that left for other parties before the last general elections but are now back home to join in rebuilding the PDP in Ogun State.

Adebutu while reacting to the unpleasant development through a statement issued by his Media Consultant, Afolabi Orekoya on Wednesday, Hon. Adebutu unequivocally condemned the xenophobic attack against African migrants, especially Nigerians by the South Africans.

"I received with great displeasure, the killings and maiming of our brothers and sisters in South Africa perpetrated by South Africans, including the destruction of their businesses and properties. This is highly condemnable. As Africans, this would not in anyway tighten our rope of unity and I believe the South African government would reprimand those involved in this absurd act.

Nigerians do not deserve this, not even in the hands of South Africa - a country we have offered so much help to during the fight against apartheid", he said.

Hon. Adebutu further urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to proffer a lasting solution to this menace, noting that a proactive measure would be needed to resist a recurrence in the future

"The Federal government of Nigeria should prioritise the safety of her citizens against all forms of bigotry and discrimination. Everyone has the right to a world where their rights and freedoms are respected. It is not new that people leave their father's land to seek greener pastures in countries of their choice. There are South Africans in Nigeria who run their businesses here. Never have I heard that such war is waged against them. The South African government should do the needful by restoring sanity into the sense of those responsible for this attack", he said.

Finally, the reputable politician commiserated with the families of those who had lost their lives in the struggle and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.

This is a period of sacrifice and a reflection on the significance of the spiritual act. I therefore, enjoin Muslims to eschew bitterness, hatred and be steadfast in promoting the tenets of Islam, among which are peaceful coexistence, love, accommodation and understanding".

Nairaland / General / Ogun PDP Mourns As Ex-governorship Aspirant Dies At 79 by Ponmile001: 7:55pm On Jul 29, 2019
ABEOKUTA - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has lamented the death of its one time governorship aspirant and former deputy governor of Ogun State, Alh. Rafiu Ogunleye

In his message of condolence issued in Abeokuta yesterday, Ogun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sikirulahi Ogundele described the death of Ogunleye as a great loss of a fine gentleman and politician, noting that he was one of the few politicians in the State who played politics without bitterness. According to him, the death of Ogunleye has further depleted the tribe of principled politicians in Ogun State.

The message reads in part, "The sudden passage of Alh. Ogunleye is indeed a very painful loss to Ogun State. The former deputy governor and one time governorship aspirant on the platform of our Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a genuine patriot, an outstanding statesman whose total fixity was predicated on the growth and development of Ogun State.

He was a gentleman, a thoroughbred, civil, humble but yet radiated a powerful intellect and a scholarly presence, stripped of arrogance", he said.

He added, " His death is undoubtedly the end of an era, a sad departure of one of the very significant symbol of those who dedicated their lives to the service of our nation".

Ogundele further said that even though "We owe God the gratitude for giving the late Ogunleye a long and prosperous life, yet, it is unfortunate that Ogun State would no longer be able to tap from his wealth of political wisdom. However, from Almighty Allah we all came and to Him we shall return. On behalf of the PDP family in Ogun State, I join the Ogunleyes in mourning the passing of this indisputably illustrious son of Ogun State. May Almighty Allah rest his soul in perfect peace".

Alh. Rafiu Ogunleye died at the early hours of Monday, 29th of July, 2019 at Babcock Hospital, Ilisan Remo after a brief illness. He was a deputy governor to Chief Olusegun Osoba in the 1992/93 political dispensation which saw the annulled famous June 12 election in the Babangida era. In 2014, he was honoured by the then First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan for his immense role towards the development of women in Nigeria. The Ijebu Itele-born politician passed on at the age of 79. He will be interred according to Muslim rites on Tuesday, 30th of July 2019 at the Itele Central Mosque in Ijebu East local government area of Ogun State.

Politics / Supreme Court Did Not Struck Out Pdp's Case - Sikirulahi Ogundele by Ponmile001: 8:50pm On Jul 10, 2019
The State Chairman of Ogun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sikirukahi Ogundele has dismissed a news report making the rounds that the supreme court had struck out a case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Engr. Bayo Dayo and co.

Hon. Ogundele while reacting to the report on Wednesday, explained in clear terms that the Supreme court could not have pronounced the Bayo Dayo - led exco as the authentic since the case before it did not bother on who controls the soul of the Party in Ogun.

"I have read with dismay the reports of some cyber serpents which gladly misinterprets the position of the Supreme court as having validate the dissident group led by Bayo Dayo as the authentic. Nothing could be farther from the truth. As we all know that this is not the case before the court and it was not even one of the prayers sought by the PDP and as such, can not be granted especially in favour of the defendant. What was decided by the Supreme court is the refusal of the court of appeal to relist the appeal against Buba's judgement which was delivered in 2016. Some people have misconstrued this to mean that the apex court declared Bayo Dayo led exco as the authentic, it is a lie from the pit of hell. The court merely urged the PDP and its counsels to amend and represent the case, it did not struck it out".

"Elections have come and gone. INEC had done the bidding of its controllers and we are only focused on putting the Party together to regain its balance. It is shameful and very absurd that the largest Party in West Africa can now only boast of two positions, out of forty in Ogun State", Ogundele said.

He further submitted that the Party, can only be guided by law but can not be ruled by court judgements, noting that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) both at the national and state level have commenced proper plans to solve the lingering crisis in the Party by instilling discipline and commencing heavy mobilization exercise which also includes bringing back home those who have deserted the party for one reason or the other".

"We are not bothered by the antics of some mischievous elements to keep hold of the Party's structure for merchant purpose. Everyone in the State had seen the true picture of their real person in the last election and in order to avoid a recurrence in 2023, we'll put in our mental and strategic effort. We won't allow our Party to be used as a negotiation platform for the victory of another political Party in Ogun State. Almighty Allah has given us Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu who is willing to use everything he has to reposition the Party for victory ahead of the 2023 election. Very soon, God will deliver Ogun PDP from the shackles of merchandisers who have subverted the will of genuine Party members in exchange for juicy offers from the ruling Party", he concluded.

On a final note, the Chairman urged Party members in the State to remain calm as all issues will be resolved soon and the race to reclaim Ogun from the "clueless" APC government.

Nairaland / General / Scores Of Adp's Footsoldiers Dump Party For The PDP In Ogun State by Ponmile001: 5:52pm On Jul 02, 2019
The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received a massive boost when scores of notable leaders of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) dumped their party for the umbrella Party on Sunday, 30th of June, 2019. The decampes were received by Former Minister and highly respected PDP Chieftain, Chief Jubril Martins Kuye (JMK) at his expansive Ago Iwoye countryhome.

In his address, the State Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, Hon. Wale Egunleti described the move as a "return back home", having gone on exile for a while. He explained that the loads of crisis which plagued Ogun PDP in the past few years was the principal reason for their decision to trade their political business on another platform.

" First and foremost, I wish to commend our distinguished leader and father, Chief Martins Kuye for facilitating this meeting. May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant you long life to help resuscitate Ogun PDP.

For a long time, we had been on exile due to the situation of things in the Party. We were against the idea of handing over the fate of thousand members of the Party to just an individual. The norms and values of the Party was bastardized and polarized. As peace loving individuals which we are, we decided to look elsewhere in order to avoid being part of the rancour. As a matter of fact, a lot of members, leaders and stakeholders pulled out of the Party then, leaving the PDP in a shadow of itself.

After the general election, we made underground consultations which birthed our decision to go back to our root which is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). On the other hand, we admired the persistence and commitment of our leader, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu before, during and after the general election. Any other individual could have given up and look for another viable platform to nurse his ambition but contrary to this, he firmly maintained his stand, stayed through to the course of upholding the leading opposition Party in the State and displayed his massive love for the members by carrying on with the normal activities even after the election. This and other numerous reasons inspired us to have a rethink and decide to be part of this moving train. We are back and back for good. We believe that we'll be warmly welcomed back home alongside our teeming members across the State", Hon. Ogunbanjo explained.

While responding, the South West PDP Zonal Chairman, Eddy Olafeso commended the move. He advised that the returnees work hand in hand with the Party's leadership in order to achieve the common goal of reclaiming the State from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2023.

He said, "Let me start by thanking our leader, one of the founding fathers of the PDP, Chief Jubril Martins Kuye for his efforts in ensuring the resurgence of the Party in Ogun State. May you live long Sir. I sincerely appreciate this new development because it falls in line with our decision at the last NWC meeting where an instruction was given to all Zonal Chairmen to go back home and build a formidable home. No stone would be left unturned. We will make sure that all necessary persons are keyed back into this system because a tree does not make a forest."

The country is presently in a pitiable condition and faced by many troubles, ranging from Boko Haram killings, banditry, kidnapping to Fulani herdsmen crisis and the ilks. We have concluded that Nigeria needs to be rescued from the clueless government of the APC which does not have the welfare of people at heart. On behalf of our National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, I welcome you to the Party and I can assure you that this will be part of my report to the NWC at the next NEC meeting."

The House of Reps candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ijebu central federal constituency in the 2019 National Assembly election, Hon. Wale Ogunbanjo emphasized the need to work as one family. He explained that it is only in unity that progress can be achieved. Finally, he maintained maximum belief that the PDP would bounce back for victory in Ogun State.

In his remark, Hon. Ladi Adebutu thanked the ADP leaders for making the right decision. He maintained that the PDP was open to all and would do everything to bring back aggrieved members and leaders who had left the party. Hon. Adebutu advised all members to work with sincerity of purpose, honesty and determination, noting that these are the core values of a dedicated, tutored and well nurtured politician. He explained that the Party belonged to the people and assured that it would be rescued and handed over to people at the grassroot level.

Notable leaders at the meeting include, Chief Jubril Martins Kuye, Chief Eddy Olafeso (South West Zonal PDP Chairman), Hon. Ladi Adebutu,Dr. Doyin Okupe, Hon. Daisi Akintan, Hon. Ayodele Mujidat Balogun (Oriyomi). Below is the list of ADP leaders present at the meeting today :

Nairaland / General / Ogun East Senatorial Candidate Petitions Inec...seeks Rerun by Ponmile001: 5:06pm On Feb 26, 2019
The Ogun East Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Engr. Adeola Sosanwo has written a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alleging attempts "by the some unscrupulous elements within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, not to subvert the will of the people and the Rule of Law but to also occasion a miscarriage of justice with its attendant consequences on law and public order."

Sosanwo contested the election with Senator Lekan Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC). While Mustapha garnered 84, 924 votes to be in the lead, Sosanwo got 82,457 votes, trailing with 2,472 votes.

In a letter dated 25th February, 2019, and addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun State and copied to the Commission's Chairman, the Commissioner of Police and Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Sosanwo said since the Returning Officer for the Senatorial election held on the 23rd of February, 2019 had declared the election inconclusive, the proper thing to do is to hold election in the disputed polling booths and ward.

The petition reads in part, "As you are well aware, on Saturday, the 23rd of February, 2019, the Presidential and National Assembly elections were held across the country. I contested in the election as the PDP candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District. The senatorial district is made up of nine (9) local government area; among which is Ijebu East Local Government Area.

"As the election got underway, issues arose in one out of the eleven (11) wards that make up Ijebu East Local Government Area. The ward is known as Ajebandele Ward. The said ward has ten (10) polling booths; out of which seven (7) polling booths returned over-voting. This eventually led to altering and mutilation of the result sheets.

"Following the protestations of the agents and representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the results of seven (7) out of ten (10) polling booths in the ward had been mutilated, upon getting to the Local Government Collation Centre in Ogbere, the Electoral Officer (EO) in the local government, one Mrs Osifeso announced that the results of the entire ward would be cancelled and consequently declared them cancelled.

"At the Federal Constituency Collation Centre, St. Mary Primary School, Ijebu-Mushin, Dr. Dairo of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) said since the PDP House of Representatives candidate led the first runner up who is APC’s candidate with 6,994 votes as opposed to the 13,000 registered voters in the Ajebandele ward where the election results were cancelled, the PDP candidate could not be declared the winner of the election.

"From there, Dr. Dairo took his report and the results to the Ogun East Senatorial District Collation Centre at Itoro, Ijebu-Ode and submitted them to the Returning Officer for the Senatorial District, Prof. Chris Nwoka, who, also publicly declared the election in Ogun East Senatorial District inconclusive because of the same reason before the media and the whole world.

"In the extant case of Ogun East Senatorial District, the margin between me and the candidate of the APC is 2,472 votes whereas the number of registered voters in the cancelled Ajebandele ward is in excess of 13,000!
Since the Electoral Officer and Returning Officers at the Federal Constituency Collation and Senatorial District Collation Centres have declared the election inconclusive, the only option left for the Commission is to fix a date for a rerun in the affected ward and hold same.

"Neither the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) nor any other official of INEC has the powers to declare the results of cancelled or inconclusive elections and return a candidate as winner.

" I say this without any equivocation because in the build-up to the 2019 General Elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued regulations and guidelines set to guide the conduct of elections into the various elective offices pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended)and the Electoral Act 2010(as amended)."

The candidate contended that the Returning Officer for the Senatorial District was the only one vested with the powers to declare return of an election or declare same inconclusive.

"In the instant scenario, the INEC guidelines makes clear provisions in respect of the collation and declaration of Senatorial District Election Result at State Level and also on when such an Election will be declared inconclusive.

"The guideline clearly vests the power to return a candidate as the winner of a Senatorial District Election Result in the Senatorial District Collation/Returning Officer for the Senatorial District Election. Of relevance is the provisions of paragraph 37(b) which provides as follows;
'(b) Where the margin of lead between the two leading candidates is not in excess of the total number of registered voters of the Polling Unit(s) where election was cancelled or not held in line with section26 and 53 of the Electoral Act, the returning officer shall decline to make a return until polls have taken place in the affected Polling Unit(s)and the results incorporated into a new form EC 8D(I)and subsequently recorded into form EC8E(I)for Declaration and Return'.

"In the case of the Ogun East Senatorial District, the margin of lead between the two leading candidate is under 1,500 while elections were cancelled in Ajebandele ward with over 13,000 registered voters!"

Sosanwo urged the Commission to follow its own guidelines and the law in its handling of the situation, "no matter the pressure or whose ox is gored".

"It is in the light of the foregoing that I wish to respectfully urge you to use your good offices to ensure that nothing untoward and illegal is done by the Commission or any of its officials 'until polls have taken place in the affected Polling Unit(s) and the results incorporated into a new form EC 8D (I) and subsequently recorded into form EC8E (I) for Declaration and Return' as stipulated in your own guidelines.

"Kindly fix a date to hold election in Ajebandele ward and communicate same to all the parties. It is only then that the results from the affected ward can be added to the existing results and a winner can be rightly and legally declared," he said.
Nairaland / General / Purported Suspension Of Ogun Pdp's Lawful Candidates Is Inconsequential by Ponmile001: 6:38pm On Feb 21, 2019
The attention of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the news of the purported suspension of the candidates and leaders of the Party in the state.

That this laughable and cowardly action was orchestrated by supposed members of the Party less than 48 hours to the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections speaks to their invidious motive.

It is doubtful if these elements are truly members of the Party. For one, they having been running from one court to the order seeking validation and legal imprimatur for their illegal actions that have collapsed before their very eyes like a pack of cards. Clearly, these are fifth columnists working in cahoots with some elements outside the PDP. Already, we have heard reports of nocturnal meetings and alliances between them and the powers-that-be in Ogun State. But, we are not pertubed by their antics. They have not availed them in the past and they would not at this time.

It is a matter of public knowledge and record that the Supreme Court had on the 11th of February, 2019 struck out the only appeal that they had against the Dayo-led Exco. So, how can an illegal body not know to law claim to have suspended authentic leaders, candidates and members of the party on the 18th of February, 2018? That is one clear week after they lost their appeal against us at the Supreme Court.

What is more, Article 57 (6) of our great party’s Constitution 2017 (as amended) states that “Any decision taken against a member who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity of defending himself shall be null and void.”

It should also be noted that the purported suspension/ expulsion of our Party's Governorship Candidate, Senator Buruji Kashamu and the State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo had been nullified by the FCT High Court since the 10th of October, 2018.

In the light of the above, we wish to members of the public, particularly members of our great Party to disregard this latest trick by political desperadoes and wheeler- dealers who have failed to come to terms with the present realities. The Ogun State PDP train has moved on and it is poised to deliver the State to the Party with or without these elements.

"On the 9th of March, go out en masse to vote Senator Buruji Kashamu as Ogun State governor alongside our State Assembly candidates. Kindly make use of the index finger when casting your vote in order to make your vote count", Mrs. Abati said.
Nairaland / General / Good Interpersonal Relationship Key To Harmonious Industrial Relations - Abati by Ponmile001: 10:37pm On Feb 09, 2019
The Deputy Governorship Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Dr. Reuben Abati has said good interpersonal relationship was key to a smooth industrial relations with the labour unions.

Abati, who spoke at the weekend in Abeokuta during the governorship debate organised by the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said in order to maintain a harmonious relationship between labour and government, justice and honesty must be the underpinning principles.

He said since the welfare of the people is the foundation of all labour and government activities, they must do all within their powers to avoid unnecessary rancour.

Abati began the session by reading out the covenant of the Kashamu-Abati ticket with Ogun State Civil/Public Officers.

The document reads, "Sequel to the general undertaking I took regarding my commitment to complete and full remittance of local governments'allocation, I wish to further state as follows:

"Since Transparency is one of the cardinal principles that shall guide the policies of my Administration; I am irrevocably committed to the prompt payment/remittance of cooperative deductions.

"All appointments in the service shall be on merit, and promotions shall be as and when due.

"For career progression, Civil/Public Officers will be encouraged to get to the peak of their careers in line with statutory guidelines.

"Our Administration will ensure compliance with statutory provisions in the discipline of workers and where any perceived injustice exists, it will be reviewed.

"Our Administration will review the Contributory Pension Scheme with a view to making it more workers-friendly."

Shedding more light on the document, Abati said government must be concerned with workers' welfare to guarantee productivity.

Abati noted that Ogun State needs a skilled and successful entrepreneur such as Senator Buruji Kashamu to tap into the immense opportunities and resources of the state to create massive job opportunities for the highly productive yet unemployed youths.

According to him, Ogun State is one of the most richly endowed states in both human and material resources, adding:"All that is needed is a good administrator who will tap into the potentials of the state to unlock the doors of employment."

While answering a question on the alleged dismissal or forced retirement of some labour leaders in the state, Abati said it was wrong to punish labour leaders for fighting for workers' welfare.

He assured that if PDP is voted into office in the state, it will review perceived cases of injustice and do what is right, fair and just.

The former Presidential aide urged labour to support the Kashamu-Abati ticket in taking Ogun State to greater heights.

Candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) also attended the debate.

Nairaland / General / Ogun 2019 : You Are On Your Own, INEC Tells Adebutu by Ponmile001: 12:13pm On Jan 24, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said any Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in Ogun State campaigning for elective position without being on the candidates’ list released by the electoral umpire "is on his or her own" as the body has nothing to do with such.

Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner for Information, Media and Voter Education, said this while featuring on Citizens’ Forum, a programme aired by the Rock City 101.9 FM, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu, a member of the House of Representatives and some of his supporters have been campaigning for various offices despite not making the list of candidates released by INEC.

Adebutu has been at loggerheads with Senator Buruji Kashamu, PDP’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, over the governorship ticket.

According to Okoye, only members of the PDP whose names were on the list released by INEC were the genuine candidates of the party, adding that others were mere pretenders.

Okoye said, “Our position is that the INEC received judgments of properly constituted courts of law and we have given effect to the judgments that we have. The judgments that we have asked the INEC to recognize the list of candidates submitted by a particular faction of the PDP in Ogun State. We have recognized the candidates submitted by that particular political party and we have published the names of those candidates recognized by the court. So, it is the names of those candidates that have been published. Any other individual, outside that particular list, who is campaigning for any position whatsoever, is on his or her own. The INEC has nothing to do with that. We have obeyed the law. We have published the list of candidates that we were asked to publish based on court order and we have done what the law requires us to do.”

Okoye also said that INEC was doing all within its powers to prevent vote buying during the elections.

According to him, “The INEC has intelligence that as we are working assiduously to prevent the phenomenon of vote buying, politicians and political parties are working assiduously at devising new mechanisms on how to corrupt the electoral system and subvert the will of the people. We are going to put up new measures to address this issue.

“My advice is that those who want to violate the law and those who want to change the will of the Nigerian people can continue with what they are doing. But on election day, the INEC will work with security agencies to make sure that anybody who tries to corrupt the electoral process or who attempts to violate the will of the people is apprehended and prosecuted. My advice to political parties and candidates that want to subvert the will of the people is that they should be very careful because INEC and all the security agencies will be on the watch out for anyone who wants to violate the law.”

The INEC National Commissioner said the general election would witness a larger voter turnout than the 2015 elections.

He said, “We expect a larger voter turnout based on various variables.

“One, we have registered over 80 million voters for this particular election. Second, the simultaneous accreditation and voting will afford Nigerian people the opportunity of voting without any disruption or delay. Third, we expect the political parties to mobilize electorate for them to come out to cast their votes. We expect a higher voter turnout in this election than we had in the previous election.”
Nairaland / General / Kashamu Picks Hospital Bill Of 6-year-old Brain Tumour Patient by Ponmile001: 7:17pm On Jan 23, 2019
The joy of a peasant farmer, Mr. Yinka Adekoya of 10, Ajilaran Cele Ejinrin Road, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, knew no bounds on Wednesday (23rd January 2019) when the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Buruji Kashamu presented to him a cheque of N500, 000 ( Five Hundred Thousand Naira)

The money is meant to offset the hospital bill of Adekoya's six-year-old son, Aderibigbe, who has been diagnosed of suffering from brain tumour.

Aderibigbe is scheduled to undergo surgery at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State.

The gesture, which came under the healthcare programme of the Senator Buruji Kashamu-led Omoilu Foundation, is part of the series of programmes lined up by the foundation to uplift the people.

Presenting the cheque to Mr. Adekoya, the Ogun State Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr. Leke Shittu, said the gesture was part of Senator Kashamu’s humanitarian efforts to bring succour to those in need.

“For decades, it has become the tradition of Senator Kashamu to reach out to the sick and the needy under the auspices of Omoilu Foundation. This is just one out of the many who have benefitted from his philanthropic gestures.

"That is Senator Kashamu for you. He is such a cheerful giver who believes in giving back to the society,” Shittu said.

An elated Adekoya expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for the kind gesture.

"I sincerely thank Senator Kashamu for saving the life of my little boy. I still can't believe what is happening. Someone from Lagos directed me to his office. I only met him once. Indeed, he is a rare breed. A cheerful giver and friend of the masses. We need more of his type in Nigeria. I cannot thank him enough. God will spare his life and bless him more; so that he can help many more people," Adekoya said.

Nairaland / General / The Obasanjo Bombshell By Reuben Abati by Ponmile001: 9:08am On Jan 22, 2019
“Former President Obasanjo is a courageous patriot and statesman who tells truth to power when he is convinced leaders are doing wrong” – Muhammadu Buhari, March 4, 2015.

“Buhari is sick in the spirit, body and soul. Let’s beg him to go and rest…Let’s give chance to another person” – Olusegun Obasanjo, January 21, 2019.

On Sunday, President Olusegun Obasanjo addressed a press conference at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta where he gave the equivalent of a state of the nation address which was essentially a testimonial on the performance of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, an assessment of the integrity and credibility of the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) vis-a-vis the upcoming 2019 general elections, and a general commentary on recent developments in the country and the tactics and methods of the incumbent administration. This is the second time in the last one year that President Obasanjo would be taking on the Buhari administration in an extensive and provocative expose. In his 2018 intervention, Obasanjo had advised President Buhari not to bother to run for a second term in office because his performance was disappointing and even more importantly, he would need more time to go and attend to his failing health.

He accused Buhari of cronyism, nepotism, incompetence and failure to bring about the change that he promised Nigerians. The former President’s advice was ignored at the time. Professor Itse Sagay, the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption who hijacked the job of the President’s spokesmen launched an attack on Obasanjo. He told Nigerians that Obasanjo is “irrelevant” and he needs to show President Buhari ‘some respect.” Titled “The Way Out: A Clarion call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement” (January 23, 2018), the Obasanjo letter then generated ripples within the polity and energized those seeking a third force as an alternative to the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

We should all take special notice of the fact that this was all in the month of January 2018, precisely in the third week. On the anniversary of that very episode, almost exactly to the day, President Obasanjo has intervened again. If his January 2018 letter to Buhari was hot, this one of 2019 is explosive. The 2018 letter was 13 pages long; the 2019 contribution titled “Points for Concern and Action” runs into 16 pages. But the key difference is not in the additional three pages; it can be found in the fact that Obasanjo’s tone in this latest one is not advisory at all. This is a brutal, dismissive, utterly condemnatory commentary which seeks to consign the Buhari administration to the ugly chapters of Nigerian history. The style of writing is lucid, frank, assertive, no one is left in doubt that Obasanjo considers the Buhari administration a mockery of sorts, some of its programmes such as TraderMoni “idiotic”, and its management of the country’s security situation, utterly laughable.

Having once declared that this government does not deserve a second term in office, and having shown his preference for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obasanjo, without an obvious hint of partisanship, tells us that the Buhari administration is adopting desperate tactics to rig the 2019 general polls. He takes on the Independent National Electoral Commission and accuses it of crossing the “redline” with “blatant partiality, duplicity, and imbecility”. Imbecility! Now, that is a very strong word. According to Obasanjo, INEC can only convince us otherwise if it redeploys Ms. Amina Zakari, the INEC commissioner in charge of the collation of results who happens to be related to President Buhari by marriage, and by conducting free, fair and credible elections.

The big take-away from the 16-page commentary is Obasanjo’s concern about how the Buhari administration seems to have compromised all institutions of state, and how in recent times, it has also taken on the task of humiliating and denigrating the Nigerian judiciary. The unkindest cut is the comparison of President Buhari to General Sani Abacha. This comparison is not helped by the fact that President Buhari himself once described Abacha as a “hero”. Many Nigerians consider Abacha a villain. He presided over a period in Nigerian history, 1993 – 1998, regarded as the “years that the locust ate”. When he died, there was ‘dancing in the streets”. The people jubilated and said: “Never Again”. When President Obasanjo says we are back to the Abacha era, he is clearly saying that Nigerians are currently under a military dictatorship. He notes quite instructively, that “criticism, choice and being different” have become near-impossible under President Buhari. These are very carefully chosen phrases. They constitute the very essence of democracy and fundamental human rights - to deny citizens the right to speak, the right to choose, and the right to be different is an assault on everything that makes us human or a nation. Why for example should an Igbo person not be good enough for the position of Inspector General of Police or any other security chief position? Why must everyone who criticizes the government consistently suddenly have a problem? Why should the membership of the ruling party become a form of life insurance? Obasanjo makes a strong case for democratic principles, and the urgent need to protect those principles from being violated by those who are committed to self and selfish interests.

Obasanjo is so impressively quotable, virtually every line from his pen drips with venom and journalistic topicality, his words sound like stones, hitting their targets with devastating force, drawing “blood” and pain. He does the job of the opposition in this January 2019 piece, barely 28 days to Nigeria’s general election, better than the opposition itself. Obasanjo may not always be right, and he has had cause to revise his assessment of people and circumstances when confronted with a different set of facts and variables, but his timing is always carefully chosen, his courage to speak up is unmistakable, and he is probably the only Nigerian statesman alive today who speaks, whenever he does on public issues, with a startling combination of poignancy, histrionics and a ricocheting effect. For this reason, he manages to capture the attention and imagination of both local and international audiences.

His blistering, bleaching, blinding attack on President Buhari is the last thing a sitting President seeking a second term in office, wants or needs at this time. Obasanjo has just told the whole world that Buhari is planning an “electoral coup” against the people of Nigeria: their right to choose, their right to differ, their right to be different. In addition, he says: “It is clear from all indications that Buhari is putting into practice the lessons he learned from Abacha. Buhari has intimidated and harassed the private sector, attacked the National Assembly and now unconstitutionally and recklessly attacked and intimidated the judiciary to cow them to submission.” So, who is left? Perhaps, the media, wrongly omitted by President Obasanjo.

Whatever happens, Obasanjo has achieved his objectives. One, he has managed to put down the Buhari administration. The last time he did that to a sitting President, the opposition quickly rushed to him and made him the arrow-head of the “anybody-but-Goodluck Jonathan” coalition. Their conspiracy succeeded and Jonathan lost the Presidency. The myth that Obasanjo can make and unmake any Nigerian President became part of the national folklore, and it continues to flourish. The flip side of that however, is that if Obasanjo fails this time around and Buhari for any reason whatsoever wins the 2019 Presidency, and the myth thus evaporates, he, Obasanjo and others who are staking everything on Buhari leaving Aso Rock, may be the ones who may have to leave town. This is what their characterization of the Buhari administration tells us.

Two, whatever happens, Obasanjo and others who share his views have already raised very serious legitimacy questions about President Buhari and his party. Less than a month to Nigeria’s 2019 Presidential election, they are already hacking down any claims to legitimacy in the event of an APC victory. The APC can claim all the votes, but the election will be dismissed as fraudulent. Ahead of the elections, the APC has been set up for a post-election legitimacy crisis, the implications of which no one can fully imagine. But if the APC loses, that may well not be an issue. The result will be praised as a true reflection of the people’s wish. You may not like Obasanjo, but he is not just another voter with a PVC, the way many of his critics respond to him simplistically. He has a voice, a voice that resonates across continents. He has international credibility, the kind of credibility that transcends local bickering. The relationship between him and President Buhari has been a stuff of classical romanticism. With his latest commentary, that has ended in a bitter, feuding divorce.

Three, his statement is couched in the language of statesmanship. He is raising “concerns” and calling for “action.” It is not a crime under any jurisprudence for a former Head of State and a former President who is also a global eminent person to raise such concerns about his country. The world will listen. And Obasanjo knows.

However, the standard response from government spokespersons is to dismiss every piece of criticism as sour grapes and to impugn the integrity of the critic. This is a default position in the government-public communication process. It is so, I must explain, because what is called criticism in Nigeria can be sometimes biased, uninformed, partisan, sponsored or downright malicious. This in itself is a reflection of the level of our development. In Third World politics, the stomach rules the head, emotions suppress reason, idiots become kings, imbeciles pose as wise men. In practical politics, every political leader believes his own vision of reality. In his mind, he wants to do his best for his people. He wants them to love him. From the little that I have seen, there is no political leader who wants to be disliked. Power is like an injection: people react to it differently.

It is something about the DNA. It is also something about the level of exposure, belief-system, competence, knowledge, strength of character and the quality of the environment in which the leader finds himself. Nonetheless, when someone comes along and sticks a pin into that balloon, and bursts the bubble, those who protect the leader, and the leader himself are bound to fight back, oftentimes viciously. To that extent I can understand the viciousness with which President Buhari’s handlers have gone after President Obasanjo in the last 72 hours. I have been through that route before. When President Obasanjo attacked President Goodluck Jonathan under similar circumstances a few years ago, it was my duty to put out a quick rebuttal. I dismissed the attack on President Jonathan as “mischievous and reckless”. The President himself later took on the battle and responded to every point raised by President Obasanjo in what became a famous epistolary war in Nigerian politics. That war produced at least three books!

Both Presidents have since reconciled, and have been visiting each other, but there are persons in Abeokuta who have not forgiven me till today for responding to Baba because as far as they are concerned, it was wrong of me to support a man they regard as a “kobo-kobo” against a man they consider an icon. The Jonathan administration’s crisis with President Obasanjo had its long-term effect, but when the fire burned, it was Mrs. Patience Jonathan who stepped in to stop further responses from our end. The only witness to that story is Senator Andy Uba. I will tell that story some other day.

Despite that experience, I must confess that I am shocked beyond words by the official responses to President Olusegun Obasanjo’s January 2019 state of the nation statement. The counter-attack is pointless, for it is exactly the kind of tonic Obasanjo needs. It will be difficult to convince anybody locally or internationally that Obasanjo is uninformed or that he has some ulterior motives, or that he is sponsored. The man has earned a global reputation that grants him the privilege to pronounce on world matters with the credibility of an oracle. The totality of his public career has brought him to that place of security, and that is why his almost life-long spat with his arch-rival, Professor Wole Soyinka has not had any effect on either of the two well-placed gladiators’ reputation. INEC promised to study Obasanjo’s submissions and has offered a polite, reassuring re-affirmation of its resolve to be independent and run a free and fair election. In comparison, the Presidency has embarked on a name-calling offensive as various officials and party chieftains raise questions about Obasanjo’s moral integrity – his record as military Head of State, and later as President – the usual things – Third Term, Odi massacre, and anything else that can be thrown into the net. They forget that Obasanjo is not running for President. By calling him names, they merely reinforce his claims and the more they abuse him, the more they give further credence to his declaration that the Buhari administration does not tolerate “criticism, choice and being different.” Obasanjo set a trap for them. They have walked into it, so unwisely.

In a strange twist, Garba Shehu, the alternate Presidential spokesman, in a written response even suggests that President Obasanjo is sick, and he should “please get well soon”. He refers to him as a “coward” and a “90-year old liar.” Garba Shehu was a Presidential Assistant during the Obasanjo years (1999- 2007). Obasanjo was his boss and benefactor even if he worked directly with Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Now, the same Garba Shehu says Obasanjo is sick! Does he have a medical report to confirm that? Who really should get well soon? Garba Shehu’s current boss or Obasanjo?
Nairaland / General / Court Of Appeal Didn't Declare Adebutu As Ogun Pdp Governorship Candidate by Ponmile001: 6:03pm On Dec 18, 2018
We have received the news of the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital that set aside the orders of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta.

We wish to clarify that contrary to the false news being spread by our opponents, the Court of Appeal did not declare Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu or anyone for that matter as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State. That was not the prayers of PDP who are the appellants in the matter and so such a prayer could not have been granted.

The Court specifically held that it was not a pre-election matter where the nomination of candidates is in issue since the matter was filed by the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP and not aspirants.

Having held that it was not a pre-election matter, the Court of Appeal could not have made a pronouncement on the validity or otherwise of the nomination of candidates for the 2019 general election.

What is more, the 25th of October, 2018 letter written by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) emphatically stated that its decision to accept the list of candidates submitted by the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Exco was predicated on three court suits, namely FHC/L/CS/636/2016, FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 and FHC/AB/CS/114/2018. It is only the interlocutory orders in FHC/AB/CS/114/2018 that were set aside.

The full and final judgments in FHC/L/CS/636/2016 and FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco which are yet to be set aside and do not have any subsisting appeals against them still remain.

It should also be pointed out that based on the judgments in FHC/L/CS/636/2016 and FHC/L/CS/1556/2017 in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Exco, INEC had in an earlier letter dated 12th April, 2018, informed the PDP of the commission's compliance with the two judgments of the Federal High Court.

The extant judgment of the Court of Appeal in this appeal does not finally determine the matter. That is why it ordered that the case file should be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment of the case to another judge who will hear and determine the originating summons.

Flowing from the above, we wish to reassure our teeming supporters, party leaders and elders, friends and associates that nothing has changed. The nomination of Senator Buruji Kashamu and all other candidates of the Ogun State PDP based on the valid and subsisting judgments mentioned above has not changed.

Finally, our lawyers have taken steps to immediately appeal the judgment of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.

Nairaland / General / Kashamu To Pdp: Don’t Present Party’s Flag Through The Backdoor by Ponmile001: 10:16pm On Dec 06, 2018
KASHAMU TO PDP: DON’T PRESENT PARTY’S FLAG THROUGH THE BACKDOOR

· URGES ATIKU, SARAKI, OTHERS TO INTERVENE

The attention of the Kashamu/Abati Campaign Organisation has been drawn to the surreptitious moves being made by some lawless members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to present the flag for the Ogun State PDP governorship ticket to an impostor through the backdoor.

It should be noted that following the insistence of the genuine national leaders of PDP, such as the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, among others, to make the Party to abide by valid and subsisting court judgments in respect of the Ogun State PDP matter, the desperate elements within the NWC and their collaborators on Thursday stalled the presentation of the party’s flags to the governorship candidates from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states at the Ibadan venue of the South-West zonal rally, as it is usually the practice at such rallies.

Immediately after the rally, the retrogressive elements within the PDP met at the Ibadan Airport and hatched a fresh plot to present the Party’s flag to the governorship candidates from Lagos and Oyo states in Abuja tomorrow (Friday, 7th December, 2018), including an impostor from Ogun State known as Ladi Adebutu.

Although we reckon that the presentation of flag is merely ceremonial and of no consequence whatsoever, we were only hoping that those who criticize others for their actions and inactions will live by higher standards and best global practices where the Rule of Law prevails. The presentation of flag will not reverse the valid and subsisting court judgments and pronouncements in our candidates’ favour – from the High Court to the Supreme Court. It will also not make the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept, process and publish the impostors’ names.

Since some elements within the PDP are hell-bent on further denting the image of our Party, the Kashamu/Abati Campaign Organisation wishes to appeal to all well-meaning leaders of our Party, including the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to, once again, rise to the occasion and rein in these elements before they wreak more havoc to the Party and set Ogun State on fire.

The legitimate candidates of the PDP who have been affirmed by the Courts and accepted by INEC will not fold their hands and allow some persons in Abuja and elsewhere, no matter how powerful, to steal their mandates through the backdoor. Party leaders should learn to obey court judgments instead of resorting to strong-arm tactics that will further portray our party in bad light to Nigerians and the rest of the world.
