Why will somebody leaves the entire south that contributes nearly 80% of the country's GDP and wants to move north? Life na per head sha.

I lived in Plataeu for one year. I moved from Jos to Magu to Panshin to Shendam etc. Plateau is as barren a land as Somalia. Most bank staff were employed from south and transfered there. The commonest job is school teacher. Insecurity has made farming unattractive. Jos always experience major crisis that takes tens, sometimes hundreds of lives at least once in five years. Jos South and Jos north are natural enemy. Berom people (the owner of Jos) are always slaughtered by Fulanis. Shendam is not exempted from violence. There was major carnage in Yelwa some years ago (that is the place Pantamj was recorded saying he would send jihadists to to slaughter people) . It is still brewing.

Magu, Panshin, Jos, the cold in these places could take your life if you have health problems or are not used to extreme weather change.

Cost of living is relatively low. I saw a 2-bedroom flat in Shendam for 50k. Goats, yams are very cheap. You can buy and come and sell down south. THERE IS NO FROZEN FOOD THE ENTIRE SHENDAM LG. likewise many other LG. you could look into such business. No difference between indigenous Plataeu and Southerners. They love flexing like us.

Note: indigenes Plateau people are peaceful and reasonable people.

If you like flexing, don't relocate to core north. There Sharia is a problem. Your neighbor might be spying on you, the day trouble starts, you will be first he would come for. I went to Kano, as relatively "civilized" as Kano is, I had problem. To enter keke with the opposite sex na wahala. Imagine for a moment places like Zamfara.
Hahahh your last statement makes me laugh seriously I'm from north

I have been to and spend some time in both States.
If you can secure a good job there, move. But do not start a family there, at least not now. It will be hard not to start a family in Plateau State... Because, if a Jos girl holds you, my brother, forget about it.
The security situation is fragile in both States. Find the safest place and live there.
Live a very low-key life. Have few friends.
No risks, no rewards that is my kind of life, hence I cannot tell you not to move there smiley

I thought rain fall more in Lagos then this two state you mentioned, Abi you want to carry trailer of water as you going to your beloved G/P? Why look for greener pasture in a dry land where there are less opportunities. I was born in plateau but relocate to Abuja after my NYSC because my hustle will pay more in Abuja then plateau, though cost of living in plateau is relatively low.

I came to Jos Plateau in 2003. Been here ever since. The city is nice and the people are friendly but the town is now shadow of itself.

Lucky for me, I'm more than comfortable with my agency job which comes directly from Lagos. In other words,I live in Jos & work in Lagos.

If you wish to stay in Jos, setup a business. The best you can do is to bring items from Lagos & sell in Jos. Pick from Jos & supply to Lagos. Consider multiple streams of income and you'd do just fine.

Accommodation is relatively cheap. Lucky for me, I pay N150,000 for a 3 bedroom apartment in city center. Which gives me enough chance to save a lot and invest in other businesses.

There are beautiful, homely girls here and the weather is fantastic. Food is affordable, roads are not congested,

You'd love it in plateau but I'd advice you to dream higher.

The comments I am seeing on this thread now helps me to make sense of what a top civil servant said to me recently.

Southerners keep looking for money when they are young and thus hardly find the civil service attractive. Then they now cry later when the Northerners, who mostly go into the civil service, now start taking leadership positions in future.

Southern youths' love for money, independence and disregard for hierarchical authority is why they lag behind the North in leadership....shikena

Yet Northern Nigeria has more poor people than Chad and Niger combined. If care isn't taken, she would surpass Liberia.

So much for being subservient grin

Bro, I must commend your foresight. The thing is this: you can only make it big in these places if you go into business. For a fact, Gombe is a "civil servant" state and most of the jobs there are government related. Not being an indigene, the honest truth is that you don't stand a good chance of fetching them. However, if you go into business like computer repair/training, etc. you may quickly make it asap.

On security, Gombe town is relatively safe. I acknowledge that Jos has been subject to violence in the past. However, it has been relatively safe in recent times. So its a good choice. Again, I will advice you go to a place with a little "support system". That is, places where you know one or two people as they may always be there for you.

I can bet my life that in any choice you pick, you will love the people. The Hausa - Fulani are once of the most accommodating peoples in Nigeria and you will enjoy your stay. I wish you success in your future endeavors bro

Yet more deaths have been recorded in predominantly Hausa-Fulani areas than anywhere else in Nigeria. Same Hausa-Fulanis are behind Islamic terrorism, banditry and herdsmen crises.

So much for accommodating.

There is plenty money In plateau if he is ready to roll up his sleeves.

A Harvard graduate started her tomato farming and processing in Jos. Another, a berry farm. Do you know how much he can make if he goes into supply of agriculture produce to abuja? Carrots, cabbage, green peas and most of all tomatoes. There is plenty money in jos I tell you. Cost of living will also be cheap for him too.

You didn't include that same lady got lots of funding (in dollars) from institutional investors as a result of her Harvard background.

I read all pages and like I have always stated: nothing good can ever come out from Northern Nigeria. not yesterday, today or tomorrow. It is a doomsland. Hell hole!!!!!!!!!!!

However, the issue about jobs resonates across the entire country: there are very few jobs in Nigeria. Have you people not checked the unemployment rate (and also poverty rate) in the country? People mentioned transporting goods (mostly food items which are perishable), have y'all not factored the bad roads and worsening insecurity? How effective is the transport of food items from Jos to the East/West with Islamic terrorists waylaying people along highways?

It is a big pity that a Christian dominated state as Plateau (with all the positives stated here) has to suffer by being domiciled near Islamic terrorists' hotbeds. Tells a thing or two when one lives near Muslims with Arabian mentality.

But hey, let's not forget the excruciating poverty in Northern Nigeria! Hell hole! Doomsland!

I'm a graduate from one of the south west university in Nigeria, and i spend all my life in Lagos state , and also a yoruba guy from Lagos State.

But due to the rising and unavailability of good jobs around, i have been thinking of moving over to the North for greener pasture, i want to leave my comfort zone.

So, two states are on my mind, plateau state or gombe.

I really want input of individuals on this issues:

Cost of living

Availability of jobs

Security

Acceptability of strangers, and many more.

Which state do you guys think is ok, I'm really in need of a good job.

Op let me start by asking, what kind of business do you do?
If you're looking for a secured and peaceful environment, then Gombe is the answer.
If you're looking for a place with a bubbling night life and a lot of social activities, the Plateau is the answer.
But however there are lots of opportunities in Gombe state, the state is peaceful, people friendly and new markets are just springing up.
