C&I hasn't released any good result since they splitted their shares.I am having the feelings mansard will like to take the lead again in the insurance sector.Just a mere saying.

Ive been following these stock thread for a while,I just need a few assistance on navigating this market,I decided to venture into the stock market and I bought some stocks, sundial towers stock, anyways I decided to check my portfolio and discovered that the stock has depreciated over the last days. I carried out some research on the company,it is a premium cannabis manufacturing company. However I need to know from experienced investors, what do you look out for when investing in stocks because I know this is not guess work nor is it entirely luck. How do you source information? What statistics do you look out for and where? Thanks in advance

Oga meet meet me at US stock investment forum.
You posted your question in the wrong platform.

Sundial problems plenty oooo but the current cannabis bill before the US legislature will help the company if passed.

I think you have asked a very very salient question here... The truth is that the same principles govern the investing universe despite varying geographies... There may be a few peculiarities but its generally the same.

I'll recommend you read books on fundamental analysis and seek to join groups where like minded investors who are better than you are on. This would help you improve.

In the interim, if you listen to the podcast below, it answers all your questions but not in too much detail. I'll see it as an induction into the world of stock picking. You can get further books and build on the foundation you get there.

All the best...

Download the free pdf version of this book: How to make money in stocks by William J O'Neil.

Someone recommended this book on this thread some years ago and working closely with the knowledge I gained from this book and my personal experience on the nigeria stock market over the years have actually helped me to understand how our local stock market works. I am still learning though.

When sourcing for information on any stock on the nigeria stock market, I use investing.com, proshare, easykobo, nairametrics, nigeria stock market website etc.
Seem u're investing in foreign stocks ( sundial towers)... those websites deal mainly on our local stock market except investing.com

I will advice you to properly digest the information from that book I recommended. All the best!

I know we have a lot of newbies joining the forum now to trade in US stock market and it cannot be overemphasized, the need to always go extra mile before investing in any stocks. Same goes for the useless reddit stock alert disguised under fighting HFs (hedge funds) in shorting under performing stocks. People should not blindly follow alerts or stock picks or copy trading thinking they could make fast money from it because more often than not it always end in premium tears! The truth is, 99% of the time, the person/analyst giving the alert has already taken position in the stock and needs to push the price up.

So that people don't get me wrong and those who have taken it upon themselves as a service to this forum by posting stock alerts don't get discouraged, their selfless spirit is appreciated but there is need for users of such information to carry out due diligence on their own before committing your hard earned funds.

Where you are deficient in skill and knowledge to carryout such exercise, follow the steps below;

1. Is the stock trending or consolidating?
2. What is causing the stock to behave or move in such manner?
3. Look for news catalysts; launching of new products, FDA approval, strategic alliances (GSAT and Qualcomm) etc
4. Find out the nature and performance of the company's product?
5. Is it a single or multiple product company?
6. Does the product give the company competitive edge over its competitors?
7. Is the company growing demand for its product or shrinking.
8. Is there any government policy which may likely impact or boost revenue performance of the company
9. Is revenue growing or declining? If declining, ask why?
10. Is operating income (profit before tax) growing at expected rate?
11. If the company is at development stage (most bio-tech companies fall under this category), what is their cash burn rate?
12. Check the liquidity condition. What is the size of cash at bank? Is receivable decreasing or increasing viz-a-viz short term payable. How is operating cashflow utilized.
13. Does the company have debt in their capital structure or solely equity financed? Note that too much debt exposes shareholders to huge financial risk?
14. Is the debt performing or not.
15. Look out for any going concern threat e.g hertz cab, AMC, etc
16. Insider trading
17. Resignation or employment of key management staff e.g. managing director, chief finance officer etc
18... Any other relevant information.

My one cent.

All of them except Zenith reported a fat book value loss in "Net change in fair value of other financial assets FVOCI". Hence Zenith should be at the top. FBN is fairly ranked in my opinion. GTCO is more respected by investors for integrity of numbers. So cannot be at the bottom.

What financial assets valuation pulled the comprehensive income of these four banks down
