Just collect half give am like #250k, the country hard. At least he's hustling and even the debt he got into He's still servicing it. So make he leave hustle and be disturbing u for money for upkeep. He's your Dad and he's done all he could to see you successful and even at it they still duped him. My candid advice is you should see to how He's running his business maybe you can even give him tips. At least if he can feed himself he wouldn't be a burden to you anymore in future.

Take a 100k loan. at least you can conviniently pay back in case he defaults. Just test him with that first and see how it goes. Don't just turn him down outrightly.

That's all.

Good day Niralanders,

I need your sincere advice on my present situation.
Please ignore any grammatical error or punctuation. I’m the first son of my family, my father is an average Nigerian trader, he single handedly sponsored my schooling from nursery to higher institution.

After my service year, one of his friends scammed him of 300k in the name of they will get me a job in NUPENG before he paid that money I told him my pastor’s revelation about the NUPENG job, which my pastor said She does not like the job and shared ill references associated to the job with me and I told my dad when I got home, he countered and rebuked the revelation, he doesn’t take any of our advice, he finally fell for the scam.

To cut the long story short, I’m now working class that earn 75k monthly, however I’m still squatting with a friend and I’m still struggling to survive.

Recently I received a call from my dad, he told me he needs 500k for trading, that he wants me to take loan on his behalf he will be paying the debt once it’s due, since he is yet to complete the outstanding loan he took from the same bank, which is remaining 3 months to complete. I later discovered he had another debt he’s still servicing (Paying ) of a different bank that is remaining 6 months to complete.
After pondering over it i asked him; what if he defaults what will happen ? he shunned me and said why will I be negative and I politely told him my mind that I cannot help the current issue. Since then he started reporting me to my mum relatives to talk to in order to accept and collect the loan of 500k on his behalf.

Please your advise on this will be helpful.
Thank you.

If you take that loan on his behalf, zero your mind that you will service that loan because your dad deliberately want to get his entitlement from you by force for singlehandedly seeing to your education.

How long before he asks for another loan? He earns 75k. He shouldn't be taking unnecessary loans.

You are right.. those parents shouldn't have sent him to school after secondary school because that's what they owe him... After all 18 years is seen as adult.. he should have trained himself as a young adult... Borrow money from one of Nigerian bank as a student loan and promise to payback after graduation...

And the parents would have used the money they spent on seeing him through school to look after themselves..is that not fair enough?

Don't born if you can't cater for your kids..
They certainly didn't beg you to give birth to them..
And that you caterd for them does not mean that you are entitled to exhort them, because this is what this scenario is about..
How is the young man supposed to pay off a loan of about 35K per month,on a 75k salary in this current economy?

Why can't the relatives he is reporting you to...... Either take out the loan too or raise the money for him?

Tell him you already applied and the bank declined......... cheesy

Hmmm....this is a dicey situation.

Op...since your dad have not finished paying some previous loans he took.

Just assume that you're the person that will end up repaying any loan that you take for him... because he may not have money to pay when the time comes.

If you take 500k loan from any Nigerian bank you will end up paying 800k or more including interest... probably for a period of 2 years or more.

And they will be deducting nothing less than 30k from your salary every month... it's likely going to be more than this amount.

The question is...can you survive on 40k or less every month?

If you're taking loan better take an amount that you can repay easily...

Don't go and put yourself in a situation that would make you resent or hate your father, especially if he's unable to keep his word.

And for those saying that your Father suffered for you. Well, it's his DUTY as a parent to train you & your siblings either in school or to acquire a handiwork... otherwise he shouldn't have given birth to you.

The father and mother did not ask for kids to come..They were simply having fun when they came ... They saw them as a gift... Since they are here they have no choice but to take care of them....
I admire the Whites, It only most of them that understands the selfishness of some of the kids... They love them but don't train them in universities... They ask them to be responsible by sending them to go and borrow money at the bank and pay back on their own when they graduate...

If Nigerian parents should be doing that, u will realise the sacrifice they have been making...
U think @ 18, when the law sees u as an adult, a parent still owe u the so called right to education u were claiming? Dear, Your right simply stopped when U graduated from secondary school... Training u in the university is just a special privilege not a right..

This advice is not only a bad one, it's very terrible. Op, ignore the number of likes, don't take this loan.

Rather, tell him to give you some time to save up some money, like 200k and give to him. He can source for the balance elsewhere.

No parent, except they were selfish and expect high returns from you for raising you, would ask for such a favor, knowing fully well your monthly income. This is absurd.

Don't you dear try it

Loans at your age is bad, your money is too small for you to take a loan. The only reason you should take a loan is for business

If your Father wants the money and believes in it, let him raise 300k, then you raise 200k, if you can't raise that in 3months, then taking the loan means you ate living above your expense

I earn close to 200k, but loans have left me scrapping

I repeat don't go near loans, live within your limit

Can you repay the N500 k plus interest from your N75k salary ?

Remember that repayment will be drawn from your salary account.

Make I laugh first. It's like your dad doesn't know that business has scatterered in Nigeria.

That is why he is owing up and down.

Were you raised by a father at all?

What's the difference between taking the loan and saving up 200k? Isn't it the same thing to use that savings to be paying back the loan? Or what exactly are you merry-go-rounding about for?

what if he needs the money urgently? he has to wait till op saves it for how long and if something bad happens to him, you go come collect the money na??

Just close that your mouth there if you don't know what to say.

From your explanation here that man love you do it for him, if am in your position, i dont mind taking a loan of even 1 million naira for him, just know that he is your father if he default then you pay off the loan, then it will be on record that you did this for him and there absolutely no way he will ask you to take a loan for him again or ask you for any money again because you'll tell him that you are still trying to pay of the money you borrowed to serviced and pay off the loan you took on his behalf while you both still maintain a good cordial relationship
