"So welcome to my humble abode", I said as soon as we entered my apartment.

"Please, I've been here already", she said rolling her eyes and crashed on the cushion in seating room.

"Oh God", she sighed tired. " A hot bath and a massage would be very much welcomed now", she said and I bit back a laugh.

" Well, the former can be arranged. Don't know about the massage though, that would be a you problem", I said getting up from the chair. I moved to my kitchen to see what could be arranged for food.

"Damn", I muttered when I discovered how low on foodstuff I was and my account wasn't exactly overflowing too. Good thing I still had a carton of noodles and some other ingredients. I'd just whip up some noodles  for us with the chicken Chef Chioma gave me earlier. Then I set a reminder on my phone to remind me to take( it's not stealing when it's from leftovers) elite food ingredients from the restaurant tomorrow. I'd sell some to some local food vendors and keep some for myself.

"Hey, you hungry?", I called out from the kitchen.

"Uhmm...not quite", she replied as she joined me in the kitchen but just the words left her mouth, her tummy rumbled and she looked away in embarrassment.

"Not quite sure your tummy agrees with you though ", I said smiling.

"Oh shut up", she scoffed.

"You know, for someone I'm housing now and practically feeding, you're kinda rude", I said loosing my shirt, getting ready to start cooking.

"Oh please, you should feel honoured having me here", she said going through my fridge without even asking for permission.

"Ofcourse, just make yourself feel at home", I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes. Don't what gives her this boldness to just do whatever she wants like she's the one paying for my accommodation here.

"How is it possible that one's fridge can be this empty.....", she was saying as she took out a half finished bowl of ice cream from my fridge before she turned to me shocked and shouted.

" Oh my God...why did you take off your shirt?"

The shock from her sudden outburst almost made cut myself as I was cutting some onions.

"What is wrong with you?", I shot at her horrified self, trying to control the anger bubbling inside me.

"Do you know I almost cut myself because of your ridiculous shout", I went on.

"But..but why did you take your shirt off?..don't you know you've got a guest and should be decent at all times. Especially if the said guest is a lady", she said in her usual defiant manner after regaining herself. " A lady like myself", she finished and dramatically flicked her hair, looking away from me.

"I just can't with you", I said frustrated as I went back to cutting the stupid onions but I was still pissed and I turned back to her.

"And so what if I take my shirt off huh...is it not in my house? Na me force you come here?", I switched to pidgin when I felt english couldn't express just how angry I was.

She just shrugged nonchalantly and went for a spoon to lick my damn ice cream. No remorse at all.

"I'm done with the food. Yours is in the kitchen", I said flatly as I joined her in the parlour. It might seem petty but I was still pissed at her. When someone just ignores that they did something wrong and unremorsely goes about their business after, expecting the person they wronged to just get over it and move on, I just get really pissed. No matter how small the offense might be, people need to own up to it and apologise. That's how I was raised.

"Some host you are", Mia said sarcastically and went to the kitchen to get hers.

"Let's see what atrocity you've committed all in the name of cooking", she said as she settled to eat. I just ignored her all through and enjoyed my food in silence.

"Mmmmmm", she moaned as her taste buds were blessed by my food at just the first intake.

"Wow, this is actually really good. I mean like pro level good. Wow!", she said as she took another.

"Wow, I never knew noodles could be this good. This is like the best I've ever had. Damn, you didn't tell me you were a chef", she said as she nudged me a little with her fist.
I just continued with the silent treatment and even turned from her. As I turned, my face broke into a wide grin at all the compliments she'd given me. No matter how angry I was, the vain part of me would always dance and jubilate when I'm being complimented. In this case though, I wasn't going to show it.

"Ah ah, are you still mad at me for earlier? Oya sorry now", she apologised in a childlike manner.

" Its fine", I replied in the most manly voice I could muster, my back still turned to her.

"Ok, thank you", she replied and that's how we ate in silence all through our meal.
 
After the meal, I ran a bath for Mia so she could clean up. As she entered the bathroom, I changed my bedspread and pillow cases with new ones. I didn't want any more complaints from her. It was bad enough already that I was going to be sleeping on the couch instead of my comfy bed.

"Shit", I muttered when I saw that it was past 12 already. I wasn't sure I'd be able to read again later cause I had a 9 o' clock class later in the day and  I really needed to sleep. I quickly got out one of my barca jerseys for Mia to change to when she got out and made to the parlour to arrange the couch for sleep.

I woke up to sounds coming from my bedroom. It sounded stifled and like a rat was squeaking. I sat up and took my phone to check the time which indicated that it was a few minutes past 3 in the morning. It felt like I'd slept for ages when it was just barely 3 hours. I stood to go find out what was making the noise and I was got to the door, I realised it was Mia. She was crying again.
  For a moment, I actually forgot she had just lost her mum. Now my childish malice towards her last night dawned on me at how foolish and insensitive I'd been.
I stood by the door, trying to figure out how I would console her. Losing a parent, especially a mum isn't easy at all. I can tell.

"Can't sleep?", I asked softly as I stepped into the room. She kept quiet and stopped crying. I guess she didn't want me to know she was crying.

"I know you can hear me", I said softly as I gently sat by the edge of the bed.

"Go away!", she said, her voices  filled with painful sobs. "Please go".

"Its your mum, right? I'm really sorry about your loss. I've been a d*ck all night being insensitive to how down and devastated you'd feeling. I'm really sorry", I apologised and I don't know what entered me and made me reach out to hold her hand.
Surprisingly, she didn't flinch or push my hand away. Rather, she squeezed it firmly.

"It just hurts. It hurts so bad to know I'd never get to see her again. I want to feel mad at her for not fighting to stay alive for me but I can't because I know she tried but...but...", she cried as the words couldn't come out any longer.

"Its ok...its ok", I consoled. "It can't say I understand how you feel exactly but I know how bad it hurts. But one thing I'm sure of is that you'd be okay. You're a strong girl Mia. You've got this".

" But that's the thing. I'm not strong, my mum's the strong one. She's my strength, my everything and now she's gone forever. Tell me, how am I supposed to go on? What am I to do now? I have no one..nobody at all", she cried.

"Hey hey sssshhh ", I said as I gently got her to seat and facing me, still holding hands.

"Look, you are strong. Yes your mum is gone but I know it's to a better place. Now wouldn't you want that for her?", I asked and she nodded like a child, the tears still dripping from her eyes.

" She's in a better place now and I bet you she's watching over you. I know my mum watches over me too. She'd not like seeing you crying like this. I'm sure she'd want to be strong and continue to rule life you've always done. She want to go far in life and chase your dreams without giving up. She'd want you to live and enjoy life to the fullest. She want to be just as happy as you were when you ate my masterpiece last night", I said the last part with a smile and she chuckled while wiping her off tears.

"You know how I know you're strong?", I asked smiling and she shook her head.

" A weak person couldn't have screamed the way you did earlier. Damn girl, you can shout". She laughed at that and I smiled.

"Thanks alot K. I really appreciate all you've done for me. I know I'm a royal mess and a handful so, gracias", she said as we smiled at each other.

" You're welcome. I better get back to bed now. I've got school later in the day", I said getting up. The way we were looking at each other in silence had begun to get awkward and awkward wasn't my thing.

"Ohhhh!", she groaned as she fell back on the bed. "Let's skip , let's skip pleaaseee", she whined.

"Nah I can't. Not all of us are smarty pants that can afford to skip classes and still get a 5.0 CGPA. Besides I've missed quite a lot of classes this semester".

"Okay. Guess I'll just continue crying then since there's no one I can talk to", she said in dejected manner.

"Oh, that's so not fair", I said as I sat back down.

"Okay see, you can miss today's lectures. Just one more day wouldn't hurt and in return, I'd help you catch up".

I thought about her tempting offer for a while and agreed.

" Okay, but on one condition. You'd help me write the notes I'm behind on too and we have a deal".

"Uhmm....just how many notes are we talking about here?", she asked cautiously.

"Not much. Just about 6 notes".

"6?...okay done", she agreed quickly and that got me scared a bit.

"Okay..just like that? It doesn't faze you at all?", I asked surprised.

" I'd have it done before the tomorrow. You see when you're me, people tend to walk over themselves just to please you so it's no big deal, really", she said with a wave of the hand.

"Okay. So what would you like to talk about now?", I asked and she smiled.

"You! Tell me about you".

"Well, there's not much to know. In fact you're know just about everything about me", I replied and her smile fell.

"Just that? Surely even you can't be that boring ", she said and then her eyes lit up.

"Ok tell me, what was that with Rex? You guys seem to know each other ", she asked and I sighed.

"Its a long story. We're cousins", I replied dryly and she opened her mouth in surprise.

"What!"

"Yeah"

"But..but...how come he's rich and you're...well you are you?", she asked curiously and insensitively too. The girl had no filter in her mouth at all for considering people's feelings.

"That's the long story", I replied dryly.

"Well, we've got all morning and all day so shoot". And I told her everything about my family from how my mum fell in love with my father and was disowned by her father to how my dad just up and left with the money meant for my mum's treatment and my future to how I began living with my paternal grandparents. Even to how my mum's dad had everyone of his household have nothing to do with me.

"Wow, that's rough K. You've had it bad. I'm sorry", she said and I don't know but I could just feel the sincerity in her words.

"Yeah. That's that sha. I wanna hit the bed now. I think we've had enough of talking. Sleep well Mia ", I stood to go back to the couch.

"Yeah you too. Thanks for keeping me company".

Immediately I hit the couch, sleep came calling and I answered. I don't think I'd slept for up to two hours when  I awoke to incessant ringing of my phone and doorbell simultaneously. I rolled off the couch sleepily and picked my phone to see who was calling only to see the name NONYE boldly displayed on the screen.

' She must be the one at the door', I thought as I dragged my sleepily frame to open the door.

" Geez I'm coming", I shouted as I opened the door to see Nonye and Dayo.

"Damn guys..this early in the morning. What's up?", I murmured as I allowed them in.

" Early? Its 11am sleepy head", Nonye said and I stared at her in disbelief. I thought I'd just slept for two hours.

" What's with all the noises?", someone said coming out from my room in my Jersey and for a moment I was scared but then I remembered. Mia spent the night here. And she's still here with Noney and Dayo also here.
I looked to Nonye and Dayo and as  I thought, their mouths hung open in shock.
The worst part was how everything appeared to look. I was just on my shorts, shirtless while Mia was on my barca jersey.

"Shit", I muttered as I just sank into the couch, completely clueless about what to say or do.....TBC


Finally....shit took me hours to come up with.
