Vintagepipes: This your post tallies 100% with the post on the first page(I hope you checked it out). Just go and read that thread. Igbanni is an igbo dialect, unfortunately ijaws are claiming igbos were mere slaves and not the natives. However, I noticed that the book was more like an academic material making references as it was littered with many modern words like Nigeria. Let me post this for the benefit of ijaws claiming the coast up to ibeno. 4 Likes

Ekealterego:Bringing facts here on Nairaland is a right step in the right direction, but more needs to be done. Such as. 1. Inviting Bonny/Opobo people to Igbo the cultural gathering as was the case with the forgotten Ahajioku festival held in Owerri. King Jaja Jeki V used to be a guest. 2. Informing Ohaneze or any Igbo group to open up Igbo associations in Bonny. Getting King Pepple of Bonny and King Jaja of Opobo to endorse these pro-Igbo Ubani unions. 3. Sending an Igbo delegation to visit with Bonny/Opobo. 4. Sponsorship of Igbo language competitions in Bonny/Opobo. 5. Opening of Facebook groups where Igbophilic Bonny/Opobo indigenes are admin. This will help to counter the guerrilla warfare being financed and sponsored by INC/IYC. 6. Supporting Pro-Igbo Bonny/Opobo sons like Dakuku Peterside for Governorship. 7. Sponsoring historians to write the true Bonny Igbo origin history of her Kings and people that will give Alagoa’s fraudulent revision the death knell. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

9Pluto:I think they are trying to eliminate the identity of everybody in around the Niger Delta. Any small independent group with oil and water are not safe. Except in areas with strong identity, that they do not venture into. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Ekealterego: Wow...this is impressive. At least most of them agree they do not need to discard the igbo identity. The main task now is to let them understand, why and how come they are speaking igbo. Their ancestors were not slaves in bonny as claimed, neither was the igbo language the language for trading. they are bona fide pro genies of proud igbo Bonny and Opobo progenitors. The acclaimed Ebane too is actually the igbo dialect of Bonny as proven by recorded history. The name bonny is because they referred to themselves as Ebane, other igbos called them obani/ubani while kalabari called them Ibani. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

9Pluto:Exactly. Only that the Ijaws decided to use the Ibani Kalabari called the people as their name. They also went ahead to elevate Kalabari dialect spoken by migrants in Finima as the fraudulent Ibani language that was lost to the real Ubani dialect (Igbo) . 6 Likes |

SlayerForever:You seem to have a comprehension problem. If anything, this news piece seem to affirm that Igbos are not indigenous to Bonny. The report said "Igbo community in Bonny",just as there are Igbo communities in a lot of states in Nigeria.Moreso, the report went on to say Ogbonna admonished the "Igbo community in Bonny" to be of good behaviour during the burial. Is comprehension such a big deal? 1 Like |

Mind you everything cannot be said here, that is why we are asking both parties to go and do their research then come to a live debate. Someone should open an Igbophilic Facebook. I don't understand, are the indigenous Bonny and Opobo Igbos not using the internet? Why do they allow these Ijaw people speak for them, even delineating their true born language and calling it nonexistent? Bonny and Opobo men and women you have a proud history, your forefathers would have rather died than let their language go. That is why they lived in that propserous conclave with the Ijaws at the west and Ibibio at the east. But none of these tribes could influence them, other than that, they influenced them. You can see how your Igbo language or Igbanni language is powerful. You need to speak for yourself, and the 45 million Igbos would stand for you and you earn your respect as the true born of your lands. You are not alone dear Bonny and Opobo Igbos, the Igbos would stand and fight for you, you know Igbos, we don't cower from a fight no matter the century wait, we would stand with you till the end. Love you all. Chukwu gozie gi umunna 9 Likes 1 Share |

JANK23H: Sweetheart, we do see some of them, but you people have taken them as minority at the coast. Most of the people shouting "I am Opobo and a proud Ijaw" are actually from Bayelsa or Delta Ijaw. My dear, we aren't that dumb. Stop decieving yourself. You shout you're an Ijaw here and you go to the village and they speak Igbo. There are videos online about Bonny and Opobo and even Nembe and the normal people or elders speaks pure, unadulterated Igbo. Please, you can't tell me those tales of the moonlight. PS: I have heard what your general Boro did to these people. But he couldn't wipe them out completely. How sad don't you think? 5 Likes |
