BTW, I sent you a PM request to connect. I will like to be linked the person you mentioned if they don't mind. Thanks.

Alright thanks. It’s on the old portal. Or is it because it’s an application from inside Canada? He entered yesterday 18th

Thanks, @Akannitommy

Actually visit visa has a higher degree of approval than SOWP. I had SOWP since August and no nothing up till now. However, I applied for visiting visa and before we open eyes it was approved.

Hi,

I think you should try the visitor visa under the new portal.

The same person who claimed they entered recently on visit visa without written authorization also had a pending SOWP. It was taking too long so they applied for visitor visa and got approved in 10 days. But they didn't withdraw their SOWP application.

Best of luck

From IRCC website, if you qualify as fully vaccinated then you won’t need any authorization if you are uniting with family member in Canada.

From my understanding of written authorization, it's possible the reason you're being asked is because you have an unvaccinated member of your family. Maybe your child? Double vaccinated individuals are exempt from the need for authorization.

My understanding might be wrong sha.

You are absolutely correct about that aspect. My kids aren't vaccinated since Nigeria does vaccinate under 18's. So I have 3 un-vaccinated members of my family (all minors) traveling with my wife. She is fully vaccinated though. So your theory is not implausible.

Hi everyone,

Thanks you for the support through responses and all. We just received the written authorization for my son who has a visitor visa so he can be able to travel with the family - Mum has OWP and older siblings have study visa.

Good afternoon all pls i need your suggestions and advice,i got my student visa in November and i i just finished first semester (did online here in naija) and i havent travelled...i am planning to apply for sowp for my spouse and visit for my 3yrs old,now my wife is pregnant (found out recently) and i am planning to state it in the loe as one of the reasons why i want her to be close by as i initially use spouse and child as hometies,do you think that is a problem? Plus should i apply for them while in nigeria or i shd travel and get my permit?
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Akannitommy: 4:03pm On Dec 20, 2021
Hi,

Either option is okay. You can apply from Nigeria - OWP for wife and study visa for your child could be okay too depending on his/her DOB because by the time they land the child could be closer to 4. Put the pregnancy matter in a convincing LOE/SOP - it is a strong point for you. The fact that you stayed home for one semester is also a good point to argue you are not desperate (don't use those exact words).

When you land then you can send your SIN, Study permit and even local bank account statement if you want. Make sure you cover the POF part very strongly and remember that your POF from within Canada is more reliable and easily verifiable than from back home regardless of the millions of Naira.

A second (or even additional) option is to apply for visiting visas for your family through the new portal when you land without withdrawing the SOWP or apply.

It shall end in praises.

Hello guys,
I just wanted to share my experience on here.
I applied for a SOWP for my husband in september 2021. While waiting, i decided to apply for a visitor visa on the new portal- i did this on the 8th of December, we were denied today on the 20th of December- we were refused based on family ties to Canada and home country and travel history. I am still reeling because we showed his land documents, his current employment, his pay stubs and bank statements with 14,000 USD.

For the travel history, i dont really know how to tackle that because he has never traveled out of the country before and i dont know if they are expecting us to start traveling for the sake of traveling.
I wanted to ask how this refusal would affect the SOWP application that is still in progress. Since this visitor visa was applied for after the SOWP, do i have to send a webform to IRCC letting them know of this refusal? Is travel history a big thing that is a reason for refusal?

I also want to ask if you think its a good idea to pay for the services of an immigration lawyer if the SOWP gets refused to redo the application again, i have started looking at it costs like 3000 to 5000 CAD and we want to start saving up for this if we need to do so.
Also, should i consider applying for the GCMS notes considering that its taking like 2 to 3 months to get them and we don't intend on applying for another visitor visa unless there is no progress on the SOWP by end of February 2022.

Background on me- i am a fully funded phd student in Canada and i also showed documents of my funding which is guaranteed for 5 years.

Would really appreciate any insights you might give.

Thank you guys.

From what you highlighted the reasons are generic but you can get a full picture of what the VO is saying by applying for GCMS notes that will help tackle all the mentioned concerns. With that said dont worry ur self about travel history its always added as a norm sometimes in cases of refusal. I was also refused study permit at first with that included as one of the three reasons but i tackled the other two and wrote in my LOE reasons why i needed to travel now. From your funding and the Proof of Funds it seems the rejection isnt as a result of finances but mainly as a result of home ties so I will suggest you think about bigger things that your spouse is attached to in Nigeria that is strong reason to bring him/she back. Employment bond, aged parents and probably siblings, more propertises etc.
In the main time since the documents submitted for both applications (Sowp and visit) are the same i think sending in an LOE via email or webform to address that part wont be out of place.
NB: I am not a guru also my spouse Open work permit has not been approved too since July so please wait for the advise of other senior members. It is well.

Thank you for replying. I was wondering if I needed to write a letter of explanation since this visitor visa refusal is after I submitted the SOWP. I don’t want to use my hand to harm myself by explaining what I was not asked to explain you know?
I just wish they would atleast tell us their decision on the SOWP so everyone can make plans for their life you know.

Also do you have any suggestions on what else can be used as home ties- we already used his farmland, his job, his payment stubs, his parents and siblings I’m Nigeria.

The only thing I’m thinking is maybe to talk about some projects he has carried out as a consulting engineer on some projects but those were freelance stuff. Would appreciate any other thing that can prove strong home ties. Thank you.

You might not to add more but you might just need to proof how the ties you have can actually bring him back. Just logically come up with an LOE to prove that.
Also sometimes the VO that access each application are different with different perspective and psychological reasoning. You might still submit the same application and still get approved i mean without changing anything. Try and writing a convincing LOE of things that can bring him back and of course for every point add a document to show proof.

If I were in your shoes I won't send any webform for the SOWP. Information as at when you applied was accurate. There's a list of things you should be informing about and visa denial is not on that list.

I see what you mean. I was going to more just send a document saying proof of home ties and include some things like him being a director in a register family business and stuff like that. So that it looks like I’m just providing supporting document and not giving explanation for the visitor visa refusal.

Thank you for reply. I really appreciate it.

Yeah I ordered GCMS notes for our spousal work permit but I know I probably won’t receive it till like February that’s why I don’t know if it is worth it to order GCMS notes for the visitor visa knowing that it probably won’t reach me till like March

Hello all, please I am in urgent need of your kind guidance. My husband recently got his study visa approved, but he wants to defer his resumtion till September while he apply for study visa for our two kids and I and my last child as an accompanying parent and sibling, and also apply for sowp while still in Nigeria, hoping to inform the ircc of his deferment due to him not being able to stay without his family. And we hope to use his aged mother and siblings and my own family too has home tie, we have a house in Nigeria, and a business project in the developmental stage, we also wish to use his land and my building documents too. Now my question is, since he won't be traveling which shows his sincerity of purpose and his regret for not applying with us initially, what is our chances of success. Thanks in anticipation

i will be honest with you and i may be wrong, but please dont defer anything. study visa is not easy to get, you may have got it on the first try but its a struggle for most even with all the assets, covid is another issue, dont give IRCC opportunity to play with your applications. please let him go or do online classes collect SIN, STUDY PERMIT gan gan and apply for all of you. one leg in is better than both legs out. your SOWP application will not waste time as it is being accompanied with study visas.
