Don't go into property investment if you don't have a business to generate you more funds, that 8m can barely complete a 2bedroom bungalow and cost of land inclusive. Building construction is way to expensive and the 8m will lead him to an abandoned project in which he will regret.

Don't let anyone deceive you that 5m can give you a decent home, ìŕò ńĺà
You just spoke the simple truth.... many people here with no even half plot of land be advising OP on venturing into real estate and using it for rent.... I mean, how the hell are you expecting 8m to buy land and build house in a rentable area unless you are talking of bokoharam infested area grin

8 million. I advise you assist those with small businesses that needs just like 200k or 300k to be fine. Spend 10% of your money on them, and you will really be happy in yourself. Happiness is in helping others.

Then you can do whatever you see as the best for yourself

Then immediately after that he can change his name to Father Christmas.
After all that is how Dangote started.

allow your brother do what he wills with his , you can guide him though. I won't want you to play with his own inheritance , the outcome maybe bad then what it will cause between you two is be very bad.

Think of what you will do with your own First - first things First

Hello Nairalanders,

So straight to the point. Please I need your advice about two things.

1. I just got my inheritance and I got cash of 8M and there's this popular belief of people squandering their inheritance,I don't want that to be my portion so which business can I invest it into. For context, I currently have a job and I'm not ready to quit so please put that into consideration.

2. My younger brother is still a student so he has asked me to save his portion of 6M in bank until he graduates but I don't think that's a good idea. I would rather he put it in some form of secure investment that will be yielding something. Kindly give us suggestions.

May the soul of my beloved Father continue to rest in peace. Amen
the only safe investment in Nigeria is land. Go and verify the land to make sure it’s authentic then buy. Buy in different places. Everything else is a risk including business and shares.
Don’t be tempted to build; your money may not be enough and you’ll end up with abandoned property.
You can also change the money to dollars and leave it in a bank. But it won’t appreciate in value, it is subject to diminishing returns

I will be fast and sharp with my comments.
First don’t ever consider reaching out to anyone here on this forum, anyone willing to advice you should be limited to comments and mails. Don’t be surprise one fool is somewhere drawing your plan now, pls be guided.

Five months ago, I was in your shoe, had about 7.5m in my account, waited for like 1month bro believe me honestly it was all squandered but not totally tho.

My advice
Don’t start a building plan yet, 8m won’t complete a standard 3bedeoom, don’t be deceived, I’ve been struggling to complete a 3bed room project even after spending over 10m in total, not in. Lagos but In south west region tho, it will still require additional 5m to be completed, now I had to abandon it to save my life imagine !

Don’t do any bussine you can’t handle yourself, I invested over 800k on a barbing shop, it was all a waste, cos workers are too bitter to work for a younger fellow, believe me or not people will frustrate you.

I ventured into transport, bought a mazda tokunbo car at 1.2m for transport, car no reach 6months before drivers begin Dey frustrate me, car resold for 600k.

Purchase a plot of land for 400k, in a year it yet to appreciate to get a buyer for 600k.

Purchased crypto recently with over 400k now it worth 230k…..lol

Did dog business, the cost of feeding rosed suddenly and made me quite after two years into it.

My advice for you, either you invest in yourself or start planning to Jet out of this doomed country, that was my only mistake, I never plan to make it out, I was trying to make it here in the country, never knew what this government touches is doomed for failure.

Those telling you to buy dollar at Nigerian bank and keep, won’t be there when government will come up with their useless policies and make you lose it all.

Invest in yourself or run out of this country, is better to be broke away than here, I can show you my account balance now is less than 17k in naira, over 8m wasted while trying to develop a property it can’t complete.

To have a solid business in Nigeria now requires a solid capital btw 25m upward, or else you will still end up been a slave one way or the other.

Btw land and crypto is the only valid comments here but don’t spend more than %30 of the funds on it.
Pls don’t do anything with your brother fund, adhere strictly to the directives he gives you, you can only advice him afterwards, earn your respect with that.

Right now any money that comes my way, na to Japa I swear, I was doing better even when I was in my 20s before this current regime took over.

Warning! Warning !! Warning !!!
Don’t contact anyone here, no help here but many good advices is sure here.

Don't ever make the mistake to invest your money with anybody.

You can start blogs in different EVER GREEN niches targeting audience from the tier 1 countries. With your money, you can hire good writers from Nigeria and also run social media campaigns to promote your blog. In 2 years time, you will be glad you did.

There is a big relationship between age and migration.

At the point of getting a visa, a consulates officer is likely to turn down someone in their early twenties while granting someone in his fifties.

On reaching the destination, how quickly someone In their twenties will get a job is quicker than someone in their fifties.

Whether is their to consider too.

With these few points of mine, I hope I have been.able to convince you.......

Don't be in a hurry. Consider all options wisely. Money gone is gone forever.

My advise
1. If you are a graduate, why not study abroad like in UK or Germany or Finlqnd?

2. Don't go into business with all your money. In case of business, may be like N3m

3. If you must buy shares. Only with half of the money or part of it. Don't buy on speculation of rising of prices. But on based on worth of a company. Like First Bank, Zenith, GTB, etc.

Do not buy XYZ insurance or ABC insurance. Here today, gone tomorrow.

4. You can buy one plot of land in a town that you know well. Like N1.5 to N2m. But beware of land grabbers
You think 8m ($13,793) is enough to school abroad.... grin

I have cheap property for sale in Lagos here. House on half plot..you can buy for your brother. He will be renting it out till he graduates and decides to sell..or retain it..my quarter plot I bought in 2014 for 2.5m was priced for 12million recently even with all the rents I have collected. I am available to guide you.

For you, there's a CBN approved financial institution that gives 1m+ per year for every 8m you invest.

Can you create a thread to share more information about these properties you have for sale?

For your younger brother, please just open a mutual fund account and put his own for him.

For you, you are talking of business when you already have something doing that occupy you. You should be looking out for investment instead. Doing any business where you can devote your time to monitor it properly is more like opening the business for the benefit of another person.

You too can also open a mutual fund account and put the money there first while contemplating on what to do. Mutual funds are done with Asset Management Arms of various investment houses. United Capital, Stanbic IBTC, Investment One, Arms, Afrinvest, Chapel Hill Denham etc...

As for your younger brother's money, don't save it in naira account. Save it in Dollars account. That way, it will not depreciate. Or let him buy a property with it. A kind of asset
dollar is 588 as at now, you mean it will not depreciate ? cheesy

Invest in mutual funds it will yield good dividends every month. Make enquiry about it and you'll be glad you did. Ask banks about the stuff. You can also withdraw your money at any time. It will be a good investment for your Broda too.

Take this advise and have peace.

You have a job and are not ready to delve into the business world yet and believe me, the business terrain is full of murky waters.

So place you and your brothers funds into mutual funds and you will be glad you did

THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE

1. I dont need your money. I would not be asking you anything.

2. Having gone through the thread, I have not seen adequate advice in line with 2022 socio-economic realities hence my reply to your thread

3. CRYPTO is the future. WHATEVER ANYBODY says about it does not matter. Make your research (Google & YouTube). The market is currently in a dip so open a Binance account and buy as much ETHEREUM and SOLANA as you are comfortable with.

4. Don't buy Bitcoin. You can no longer make exponential profits with it. Buy the aforementioned tokens.

5. You said you're a working class man so you probably have the pedigree to apply for a Canadian Express Entry. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO CONSIDER.

6. Do not for once think N14m is a lot of money. Once you commit to acquiring liabilities, you would understand this statement.

7. Commit to using your Father's legacy to leave one for your children unborn.

Success.

Ps, Et al., I am NOT a Crypto or financial expert so I may not reply all questions in this regard. Google is your friend.
