Hello beloved nairaland, I am here to seek advice from smart people in the house.

I met this girl at a market square in my village, last year December from then till now we have been dating and about to get married end of this year ( not official).
She is a university fresh graduate, she came from good and okay family, and ready to settle down. For now she is not working.

She asked me to open a shop for her as soon as we get married, I am not living in Nigeria, opening a shop won’t be problem to open for her.
The question is, can I open the shop with my name or I should open it with her name, because I don’t want to hear the story that touching the heart.

Smart people of nairaland pls advise me on what to do hear, before I can make a final decision.

Thank you guys in advance.
Open the shop in her name ONLY when she has legally become your wife.
Do this so that we no go insult you too much if she decides to opt for divorce tomorrow.

Open the shop for her but on some conditions.
First, you must get married to her first and secondly the shop's name MUST bear your surname ( that's your name) which shows that she is under you and you have the full right to close it anytime you want if she misbehave.
It's a good idea to open shop for her as she suggested, it will keep her busy and she will be a bit independent.
@Op carry go you're on a right track.
Adhere to the above advice and you're good to go

answer my question
I will clear ur doubt ooo.....I can't open a shop for my so called Nigerian wife when am not based in the country with her.
I can't marry a Nigerian lady when am based outside...
I can't take my Nigerian wife out of the country to live with me except on vacations and visits
I can't open a shop for her in her name except my name
Like Oga Good said watch her for some years and affirm her loyalty and submission before opening any shop and moreover me personally will open it with my name and make sure I am aware of all happenings and spendings in the so called shop..
I will apply the brokenness pattern also to find out her stance and reactions..

Mind you embrace The Red Pill and be liberated..

With these few point of mine I hope I ve been able to convince you and not to confuse you grin...

You came here for advice but you have been arguing against the mainstream advice been giving to you.
Staying abroad and marrying a Nigerian girl living in Nigeria is a very bad decision, with almost certainty of ending in disaster. Besides that opening a shop for her is another foolish decision, more so in her name.

Can't she open the shop for herself? undecided...
She's asking you to open a shop for her immediately you guys get married ba, what effort is she putting towards that? Abi does she think it is only husbands that should build their wives in marriage and not vice versa? Sounds to me like this girl has a mentality of "my husband must do everything for me, while I do little or nothing" undecided...

I have two beliefs that as regards this issue.... 1. if it's important to you, you'd find a way to make it work 2. What you don't work to get, you won't have the capacity to sustain....

If that shop is important to her, it will show in her attitude: she will huzzle to bring part of the money, she will study in-depth as regards the kind of business she wants to do, she will do her research properly as regards where to get cheaper goods, the market system et Al...

If she isn't doing all the above and more, I bet you, if you open that shop for her, she will mismanage it!! Because she didn't go through the process of starting it, she definitely won't have what it takes to sustain it undecided...

I hope you get the point sir?

And please sir...
Don't ever consider getting married to a lady who isn't working for her money!! It's foolishness!!!!

How would someone who has never worked for 20k in her life, be able to manage that same amount, when given to her?

Give a girl who works for her own money legitimately 20k, I assure you, it will be put to far better use in her hands than a girl who has never worked for money in her life undecided....

While the former can plan that money well and it'll last her 2weeks or more, the later will most definitely spend it all in one salon undecided....

May God give you wisdom sir...

Why should you be married to a lady who you don’t get to see everyday? Naija girl for that matter wey their morality is next to nothing?
It’s not as if you guys can’t get married but I believe there should be a concrete plan of making sure she goes over to ur side by six months max after the wedding. Ladies of these days are no longer loyal my broda so pls think it well o and for the shop matter, my question is why can’t she try and hustle it for herself cos am sensing “my man must provide everything for me” mentality here and also investing in a lady you are in a relationship with is not a bad idea, in fact it shows you care about her but pls don’t be the only person to fund the biz o. Know that as you are far away from her, any money u spend on her is hers and not yours again.

You should know what to do, but investing in someone you haven't married is risky these days who knows yours might be different.

The fact that you don't stay in Nigerian increases the risk.
