What pisses me of about threads like this is that there's always a reference to the Op's current earning power: in this case 600k.

Last I checked, 1 dollar = 600 naira, so the Op is currently earning 1k dollars monthly which in itself is not bad but to put things in context :at this same time last year, it was about 1200 dollars.

Common sense dictates that there's a reason to be worried and so many other variables should be looked into apart from earning power.

If you have never been to a place, u won't understand how the place works. That money he is earning in Nigeria can sustain him for more than 3 months. Over here, change that money to dollars or pounds and multiply it by two, u won't have anything left at the end of the month after u have paid so many things.

Make your research bro

I'm in the UK working as a dependent and is full time getting up to 700pds every week....as a student u have a specific hrs u can work....my brother japa is the best if u have a sure way.

Tell.me how you earn 700GBP per week... Is it before tax or after-tax?

Bills are there to collect some of your resources away....

It is better you tell someone the truth....50 percent of naija abroad are doing jobs they can't do here in Nigeria....tell them the truth....

The truth there is that you can't compare Abroad with Naija..the difference is clear....Naija Nah shit hole...but, to be truthful, ... be ready to put all that you have learned over the years to work. So as ... to earn money and be legit. ...

People should quit speaking ill about ‘nominal jobs’ outside of Nigeria like it’s a dirty subject. I don’t do manual labor however I fail to understand how people feel that they’re above honest work.
Garbage men in New York averaged $150,000-$175,000 during the pandemic and $75,000-$90,000 in ordinary years and garbage collection is definitely a ‘nominal job’.

One definite thing about nominal jobs in the US, Canada, and Europe: you will get paid on time every payday like clockwork or else your employer will face legal trouble. Can the same be said about their jobs back in Nigeria? Is there a guarantee that you’ll be paid on time?

These so called nominal jobs may come with a nice pay, but there's just one snag about it that am not quite comfortable with. In the dating arena for example, it's sort of a challenge when introducing yourself and what you do to a lady. It's just doesn't sound appealing/attractive to them. Then, one has to go out of his usual way to lie about his job.

Better watch it. #2million is just a little above USD $3,000. Somebody earning #600k in Nigeria is better than somebody earning USD $3,000 abroad. House rent and other utility bills will take more than ⅔ of your earning abroad. With what you currently earn, you may double or triple it in about a year and your children bills will not come easy abroad
The issue is that MOST PEOPLE in Nigeria are just interested in salary.
Someone earning #600k abroad after deductions is still better than someone earning same #600k in Nigeria after deductions.
The reasons are too many;

1. Less disturbances from ur people.
U can disconnect from ur kinsmen and plan.
2. General Envy & hatred by neighbors in Naija.
3. Where is the security in Nigeria?
4. What will the future of ur kids be like?
They may not be that lucky as u are in that kind of country where someone can be sacked in a dream.
5. Where are the Good Roads?
6. Where is Power(electricity)
7. Crises everywhere..
8. Air & Noise pollution.
9. Insanity & Insults.
10. Police brutality and criminality.
11. Where are the equipped hospitals?
12. Any health insurance for ur kids?
13. Currency nosediving like a skydiver.
14. What part of Nigeria can u take ur kids for vacation now? I can go on and on..

So, with #600k per month in Nigeria, you may not add weight and look healthy.
No peace of Mind. U feel threatened whenever your doors are knocked bcoz u may be the next!

I PREFER PEACE OF MIND to everything in the world. I can't live in a place in with so much palpable fear of existence.
My opinion!

Honestly I won't advice you to leave ur Job ,, I believe they are ways you can apply for jobs online in those countries you wish to go,, apply and pray ,, you might get picked and get a visa sponsorship... Instead of leaving your Job to where you don't know...

Bro ,, 600k no be beans for Nigeria ooo... Make we no lie . Lol . grin

But if he lost the job, which is likely, being a salesman, where will he get another well paying job like that in Nigeria?

But there if you lose one, you get another.

Hello Folks,

A lot of things will determine if you should consider it or not:

1. How old are your children? If they are under 4, then you will need to have childcare for them (except your wife will stay at home taking care of 4 kids). If they are older, then they will be entitled to going to a free school.

2. 600k is small money. If you come to the UK and utilise the IT skills you have, you could potentially get a £50,000 - £60,000 job. But you won't get that in the first year you arrive. You will need time to settle down, update yourself, get into the system.

3. Coming via the student route is not a sure way of staying in the UK. Question - is your wife willing to work in the care industry? If yes, then you can get a work permit through this for five years as there is shortage in the market and from that you apply for indefinite leave (what you Nigerians call Green Card).

4. It's usually very tough to start with, but if you can weather the storm, you will become successful beyond your widest imagination. This is an open forum and I can't start sharing what I earn, but trust me, I have never regretted moving abroad.

5. All those saying "Abroad is not all that" are those who either don't have the means to relocate, have comma with their document or outrightly don't want to make changes and they are looking for every reason to discourage you from going. Also people who want to continue to live a life that you can do anything you want without being questions prefer Nigeria.

that is my opinion. I'll share more info if you want though.

US is still the best forget the UK which is just a Lagos extension. 600k is just $1k a month, even doing hustling jobs like Amazon and Uber
together you can make $8k a month in the US but you will work hard like a slave. Since you are self employed and the US tax system is geared towards people who are self employed, so you will pay minimal tax and save majority of your $96 k annual salary.

see brother. Abroad is fun and good. You live a quality life. Your children go to good school everything is okay. Yes you pay bills to get that quality life. You work long hours too. No problem in that. However I will warn you that you end up having nothing to show if you dont plan. You might enjoy it now but when getting old and you see your colleagues with big houses and cars or even with higher position you will now start regretting why you left naija. But if you are not bothered and you just want to live an ordinary life then go ahead. You said you have no skill, my brother na above poverty line you wan dey so. If you no get IT skill especially javascript, python, java or you are not a nurse or doctor, you will end up after several years having not to show. Probably you might manage a 3 bedroom bungalow in naija and thats all. If i were you, if I will leave for england, I will get a senior manager role in london with visa sponsorship but if you want to go as a student, you just want to start from beginnning to labour over again.

student route to Germany is the best if you can secure PhD scholarship ( German universities can give you direct PhD with just bsc if you have cgpa above 4.4) PhD route is 4 years on a net salary of 1700 euros monthly....if you can learn the German language and make at least A2 ...job pathway becomes easier...and once you can secure a job you are at most 2 years to securing permanent residency

Omo - What majority of people have said is no cap. It is not easy.
But if you can cross from New York to Quebec , Canada via Roxham road. ( Illegal immigration) and then move on to Ontario. You can find work as a nurse aid.( PSW- Personal Support Workers ) they have an aging population and need people who can assist people. It might be demeaning to you at first but the money is good.
Issues :- Will you be granted asylum based on your story.
How old are you .. Retirement age is 65. so if you are 40 you only have 25 years to legally work. How much money do you have in savings to help you live a comfortable life. In Nigeria, we do not pay taxes. You take home almost 95% of your pay. Abroad everything is taxed . So take home pay is about 65% of that then comes deductions ( Mortgage or rent, insurance, car payments, bus payments , food, clothing, savings etc)

My advise is this - Stay where you are but get the kids out. Push 2 if possible, so they can keep each other honest and accountable, then have them send for the younger ones. And when they are settled they can begin to thank you for the sacrifices you made for them.

I am also in your shoes. I have a thriving car business although sales dull this period and also in employment.

However, trigger for Japa for me are;

1. Nigeria's Security Situation: Imagine God forbid, a family member is kidnapped and you cough N5m ransom or Nigeria happens to you like it has done to most people....bad roads, healthcare etc.

2. Nigeria's economic situation: The truth is there is no light in the end of the tunnel. Lets think this through, has there ever been improvement in Leadership? if the next President enters in 2023, he will do another 8 years. Imagine going through these uncertainties for another eight years

And personally am ready to do care giver job with stable security and economic situation than continue with the uncertainties around this cou try.
Hopefully things improve in 9ja sha......but this hope don dey since dem born me.

In a friend words " No big man in Nigeria". The Only big men in Nigeria are people that have not experienced Nigeria.
if you are not going to cry when you see your friend building mansion and you are just a 70 year old man, then you can go ahead and japa.

This was my situation last month or so.I and my husband analysed this issue well and decided it wasn't for us.We will hustle here so we can afford to send our kids abroad to school there.

Personally,I decided i will remain here in Naija.Nigeria is sweet if you know how to make good money legitimately.Forget am!That japa thing is good for people without anything reasonable here or People who just love to live abroad.

I am a Boss here in Nigeria, living a very comfy life without stressing myself to dress up and go anywhere in the name of work before i make money.Ask yourself why Dangote,Adenuga and Otedola haven't relocated permanently. All they do is visit and come back to Naija. They know they can't make the money they get in Naija anywhere else in the world.

I stay home 24 hrs and make over 1m monthly
in profit from my business, business coaching and Dropshipping system.Where i wan see this kind soft stressfree life abroad?

if i leave Naija to japa,i will definitely regret it!I am not up for starting from scratch. My take is that if you are comfortable here, chill o...You can go for vacation to relax.Abroad hustle isn't for everyone..

Make person no come go use im hand subscribe to modern day slavery!I can't live my sure bird in hand to look for 10 million in the bush..The grass isn't always greener!

I have relatives abroad so i know how it goes there..Many there don't have 10 million naira cash in the bank. They are living from paycheck to paycheck.Wheras People in Nigeria can afford to save 50m or more to pay in full for a house or car.Just think it through sha.

In my opinion, only those earning upwards of 1.5M should ever have a second thought when an opportunity to relocate to a 1st world country arises.

@ charles009:
This should be an easy decision given that you earn less than $1K in a month.
Anyone earning in Naira gets poorer everyday with the unabating slump in the local currency.
In a few months' time, PMS will be selling for nothing less than N400/liter and the domino effect of it will reflect in the prices of every other item out there. So, technically you'll be earning less than your current salary as the naira keeps weakening relative to the USD.

What kind of life do you think 600k will give you in Nigeria as a married man with 4 kids. I earn more than that as a single person and I am just managing. That money isn't worth shit in today's Nigeria especially if you live in the big cities and 4 kids.
if you live in big citiies like abuja, lagos with huge rent and cost of living. 600k in imo you are a big boy.

If you go to the UK because you want to hustle, you are fvcked!

You will labour till you drop amd have very little to show for it.

If you dont have or will not get a good paying job, forget it.

Maybe Canada or the US might be better options for you.
