Video like this mislead people . Few individual experiences does not represent the whole of immigrant story in the UK.

Some people lived for years in the UK, made money then went back to Africa to start shouting UK is bla bla bla...ask them to return home empty handed then work and build those good houses they will run back to the UK

You are absolutely right. She is speaking gibberish.

If your friend really works for Mobil in Canada then the tough life he tells you about must be due to the weather otherwise, he is telling lies.
I often laugh because those in the diaspora never start sharing ‘truth and experiences’ until things go sour for them or they feel threatened by too many Nigerians wishing to move abroad and have a comfortable lifestyle like theirs.
read that post again
I am not sure his friend works in Mobil canada

Long and short. E no easy anywhere . Na god dey bless. Also anyone can fail or make it anywhere.

What differentiates abroad from Nigeria is the orderliness and system.

The same orderliness and system is what restricts people abroad and the lack thereof in Nigeria is what allows people to make it big in naija.

All in , you will enjoy life better in Nigeria if you get money, and enjoy better abroad if you're average or poor.
Thank you!

Hello Folks,

I need una inputs, I tried scanning through nairaland threads and I am getting more of technicalities and rules lol. I need real experiences. As everybody around me dey japa so I decided to give it a thought. I work with a fintech company and net a little over =N=600k monthly. I am considering relocating to either UK,Germany,New Zealand, Australia or Canada. I am married with four kids. They said study route is the best .

A few of my colleagues that travelled just dey dull my ginger. My Oga who nets over 750k, we spoke today and he is considering a security man job, and claims net pay is over 2M monthly. Biko I cannot come and kill myself.

My friend, we spoke this evening and he responded oboy make I no lie you, na shit i dey pack for here, the good news is they say it will always get better with time. What if person no come eventually become citizen, is it a must you go become citizen.

I don talk to over 10 persons today and they all saying everything is though. Me I don't like stress, where me and wify go dey overwork just dey pay bills. Ofcourse I no get strength for menial jobs, make one oyibo use me take dey shine lol....

I no get any exceptional skill, I be sales man ooo.

Would you advise I still gamble and go with family abi make I hold my job oooo.

Please, I would welcome suggestions and advise.

Thanks Guys
Keep your Nigerian job intact. 600k is a huge earning esp in this hard times. You can always be traveling out for tourism and vacations. Travel to more countries to boost your family's travel history. Raise your lovely children in this country until they mature to 18 years above. Then you could train at least two abroad at PR likely countries like Canada, NZ etc.

Any option you choose has its consequences. Our parents decided to stay back and build their lives in Nigeria. Fast forward to the present and they are selling their properties so we can leave.
Every single place has its challenges. You just pick the one you think is better for you.

A lot of things will determine if you should consider it or not:

1. How old are your children? If they are under 4, then you will need to have childcare for them (except your wife will stay at home taking care of 4 kids). If they are older, then they will be entitled to going to a free school.

2. 600k is small money. If you come to the UK and utilise the IT skills you have, you could potentially get a £50,000 - £60,000 job. But you won't get that in the first year you arrive. You will need time to settle down, update yourself, get into the system.

3. Coming via the student route is not a sure way of staying in the UK. Question - is your wife willing to work in the care industry? If yes, then you can get a work permit through this for five years as there is shortage in the market and from that you apply for indefinite leave (what you Nigerians call Green Card).

4. It's usually very tough to start with, but if you can weather the storm, you will become successful beyond your widest imagination. This is an open forum and I can't start sharing what I earn, but trust me, I have never regretted moving abroad.

5. All those saying "Abroad is not all that" are those who either don't have the means to relocate, have comma with their document or outrightly don't want to make changes and they are looking for every reason to discourage you from going. Also people who want to continue to live a life that you can do anything you want without being questions prefer Nigeria.

that is my opinion. I'll share more info if you want though.

Op you are about to make the biggest mistake of your life and I will tell you why:

1. If you relocate via Visitor;s visa to the UK, you will suffer. The UK govt has tightened the rule to allow illegal immigrant to work. Even to rent a house, you must be a legal resident. There is a website where landlords will run a check on you. If the govt finds out that a landlord rents out a house to you or you work in a company as an illegal alien, the govt will heavily sanction the landord or the company.
So, illegal aliens are always at the mercy of legal resident to work or to rent a house. No matter what the legal resident does to you , you must endure it because he might withdraw all he is doing to support you. This is the website to check tenant's legal status before an apartment could be rented - https://www.gov.uk/check-tenant-right-to-rent-documents

2. If you go through student route, another big headache. Student route does not automatically lead to you being given resident permit. When you finish your course (after spending MILLIONS of naira before you get your visa), you will apply for a graduate route which is non extensible 2 years. Within this 2 years, you must get a job from companies who are licensed to hire foreign individuals. The job must be in certain professions on their shortage list which is heavily dominated by IT, Medicals and a bit of social science. And you must be paid certain minimum salary. This is the list of professions on shortage list as at today (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/skilled-worker-visa-shortage-occupations/skilled-worker-visa-shortage-occupations). Failure to secure jobs in any of these, you will be asked to leave with your dependants, if any. Do not forget that, the companies are looking for EXPERTS who can hit the ground running, and they are not limited to hiring from students in the UK . You are competing with everybody in that profession globally.

Lot of people want to circumvent the process by working as social worker. But be aware that not all social worker companies are licensed to bring in people. Moreso, Indians really dominate this industry, and you are competing with 80% of students that are coming in for a very limited space.

POINTS TO NOTE
1. Being a citizen does not guarantee good life in any country. Citizenship is different from making it in life. The values you can add anywhere you travel to will determine if you will realise your dream. People tend to mix possessing citizenship of a country to making it in life. Hell no. There are homeless among their own citizens

2. You are earning well in Nigeria. Try and invest on learning a transferrable skills and apply for jobs from Nigeria. While you are doing that, you can always visit any of these countries to see if you can even live there. Dont follow the crowd. A bird at hands is worth thousands in the bush. Some people over there will be happy to switch places with you based on what you earn.

3. Migration is never a bad thing, but plan well. Think well. A life can be ruined if done anyhow.

4. Stop converting money in Pounds sterling to Naira. If you earn in Pounds, you will still spend it in that expensive environment. Go and ask how much a room goes for in a month. Same amount can pay for a 3-bedroom flat in Nigeria for a year in most places in Nigeria.

5. It is only in Nigeria you can hire a driver, cook etc. The cost of baby minder alone will choke you over you!. Thats why a lot of people bring in their mothers to mind their kids for you. Mama is not going for holidaying but to work as a baby minder. Think if you have to leave and strategise.

My two cents.
*Pls Pardon my typo, if any*

otedola stays in the uk and france regularly, dangote is in the process of moving his assets to the usa. Before you compare yourself to these people know that all their kids are citizens abroad lol and their assets are in tax havens too. If you have opportunity to japa and get citizenship please do. Some refused to travel in the 80s and 90s and today their kids are still home at 30 or doing one 50k job. As for me and many people I know that moved to Canada as permanent resident. They are doing better than they were in Nigeria. Their kids are easily dusting every one in their classes, other aspects of life like arts and sports are also being developed. In Nigeria one illness or govt policy can render you broke. Me i will hold my foreign passport in peace in future i can decide to come back home or go to usa for more money.
Egbon mi, God bless you for this input, my father told me he got a scholarship to study in the US in the 80's, but he didn't go, now he's regretting that decision, and it affects us his children.

Trust me, most who go back to Nigeria complaining didn’t move back by choice.
You and Justwise present strong points and I advise anyone to be suspicious of people who complain about the developed countries they moved to.
If you visit any Nigerians here in the US (my paternal side included) you hear them complaining to family in Naija about bills and how hard things are then the moment they disconnect the call, they jump right back to loving and enjoying their new life.
The majority of people who complain aren’t legal and don’t have papers, are lazy, don’t want family back in Naija to ask for help migrating, or ask for money.

Real question: why do these monikers act like bills and taxes are curses and everyone abroad works around the clock, living a hard life of struggle? A nice, comfortable lifestyle costs and we enjoy the amenities funded with our taxes. Savings and investments are priorities to me but what good does having large amounts of money saved serve in an unsanitary, uncomfortable, and dangerous environment where one encounter can wipe savings dry? Serves no good at all.
Facts... Some diaspora Nigerians are very selfish and heartless to care about others or their kinsmen. Very terrible reality, and you just mentioned some salient points. To add, when people relocate outside Nigeria and Africa, some completely forget their brothers and sisters in Africa and d current reality of agony and suffering they face back home. So they even act high and mighty with their newfound livelihood abroad. Some feel superior in possession of asset and want to be adored for the little they share.

sadly, many people woud look at the SALARY, not understanding that, earning Naira 3m monthly in the UK is much worse than earning 600k in Nigeria, simply because life in the UK is MUCH MORE expensive than life in Nigeria...

the challenge is most nigerians dont have the right info when they arrive and learn by trial and error. The indians and chinese tend to support each other way better. I have been a victim of Nigerians keeping away from each other and leaving everyone to fend for themselves with new immigrants having to struggle to learn the ropes

Even basic things like interview ethics that apply here, I have had to learn by trial and error.

The main work is not done my you but the employer. Once the paper work has been approved from usa you only need your passport and biometrics to complete it
He wants to hire a lawyer, but I asked him to hold on for a few weeks so I can be sure everything needed on my end is ready.

I earned more than the number you specified back in Nigeria but I thank God I made that decision. Believe me, it won't be easy for a certain time as settling down in another sphere which you are completely new to is not easy but over time things will fall into places. I will advise you to have a deep thought over it. Will you be getting this salary for life ? what would be the fate of your kids 10, 15 years to come. weight the pro and cons and take your decision. To be candid, I was super comfortable in Nigeria but the spate of insecurity, our education system, infrastructure decadence pushed me out. Imagine yourself in a place water never run dried, electricity never blink, you can conveniently work day and night without the fear of somebody will collect your laptop or money, you sleep with your door half closed, your forget your phone in a public bus and you get it within 24 hours and all your things were intact. Many people lost ATM cards and they got it back without an issue. get me right, there is crime everywhere but the percentage in these developed world is close to zero. If you are fortunate to earn N600,000 per month, can you kids be that fortunate. those were my thought for leaving a job that gave above what you quoted and moved.
Nevertheless, ensure you move legally if you will. I wish you all the best.
