GoodIsGod:
Give women small power and they become beasts.
These so called gender wants to become governor's and head of state.
Shior.

Several years back. I was given cheque from Lagos by a client to cash in my state of residence. I was having only my international passport as a means of identification. It was a Friday and once I can't cash it, I would have to wait till Monday. There was nothing at home for my family. I went to bank to cash it and got to the cashier who is a female. She checked by he cheque front and back and asked for my ID. I gave her my passport and she looked at me.

"Mr GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago. I was startled I collected it and checked and it was true.
"I am sorry I didn't know until now" I said.
"Any other ID?" She asked.
I said I don't have another
"I can't pay you " she said and called the next on the queue.
"Sister please help me. It's just two days of expiration. I need this money" I pleaded.
" I am sorry I can't pay you" she repeated.
I hurriedly left for another bank before the closing hour. And it was a lady at the counter again. She looked at the passport and said same thing.

"I am sorry it is wrong for me to pay you with expired ID"

I left the bank for another and the thought of my family going hungry through the weekend was bothering me.
This time around I promised myself I won't go before a female cashier no matter what.

I entered the bank and it was my turn in front of a gentleman.
I gave him the cheque and he asked for my ID. I gave him the ID. Then he looked me in the face.

"Mr. GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago" he said.
"Yes I replied. Im sorry I have no other and I need the cash for the weekend" I replied.
"Go and renew it or get another form of ID. When next you come with this I won't pay you" the guy said and he started counting the money. grin

I breathed a breath of relief.
And since that day, I prefer a male cashier to the females. Even when all my documents are on point.

Ladies change your attitudes. You are made beautiful, so your behavior should be beautiful likewise. grin
someone acted based on professional rules, and another acted based on pity and you're quick to say females have issues. If it was going to cause her,her job nkor?

When someone leaves infective materials that will cause a life threatening infection lying around and tells your relative to go and pick it up, call a lawyer for your relative for refusal to do so.
phineas:
I will repeat so everyone is clear on their rights. If anyone restricts you from going anywhere against your Will, and especially locks a person up against his or her will.It is kidnapping. Document that they know what they are doing and get a lawyer.

If its a coporate firm they will pay you big money to settle out of court. If its a stupid person he or she wil spend some time behind bars

Nurses keep leaving Nigeria too bruv.

Don't feel that all nurses were once Doctor wannabe. No! I never wanted to be a doctor. The ego you all have is amusing, yet a whole lot of you google during consultation.
In UK and USA they give you free WiFi and Emdex to browse through while consultation. So you can be liable to face the law in any slightest mistake especially if you don't use Emdex at your disposal . In top European countries, computer make their diagnosis for them. Johesu sent Doctors packing from Nigerian hospitals. It did not take 6months the nurse too escaped from the same Nigerian hospitals to the UK.

Sadly the nurses got to Uk and lost their voice. They are not asking for the same salary as Doctors, but are happy to do band 5 or 6 pay.

The anyhowness in Naija is a different scale.

Doctors too get their big wahala, someone should carry pen for you, bring stethoscope for you. They get to UK and push trolley for them self, and even push patients on wheelchair grin grin

Make everybody from Johesu to resident Doctors getat, no levels!

I'm very sure the doctor got what she deserved. Doctors too dey like oppress nurses for this country, if you investigate this story deeper the truth will come out. And they are very good in defending their colleagues irrespective of whatever may have happened

You don’t even know the half of it. Doc will blind a child during Vaginal Examination and collectively tell the parent that the child was malformed. You don’t know how many errors docs collectively conceal and there’s one thing a have unity. They will have their backs outside and lambast themselves within. Some of those people are hardened criminals.
Or should I talk about misdiagnosis
Or talk about helping a doctor on what to do when a patient is seeing them and they don’t have clue what to do but spill mumbo jumbo to cover up the lapses

The same patient will run to them to help them for some faults they created. Lol

Exactly...sometimes this year, a sharp managed to get its way into the orange bad and pricked a domestic staff while she was packing. Well it was a huge incident here, it was cascaded to hospital governance team and see mails flying everywhere.

Majority want to enjoy abroadlike care in naija but we don't want to put in the commitments and humility that makes it happen.

Do they think it's not the same thing that's practiced outside the country

It's because they see Nigerian nurses as maids, because they are allowed to trained quacks in their private hospital thinking all are the same

I didn't mention your nursing profession bro. My wife is also a nurse and I know what am talking about. Many of the health practitioners fighting against doctors in Nigeria are those who couldn't end up becoming doctors and you know that to be true.

Is it not better to google through consultation and give your patient the best care than assume everything from your head? This is the difference between medical practice abroad and in Nigeria. Even health workers still believe the man who does everything from his head is the super man, that is the real ego bro.
No, it's not true. Is that what your wife has been telling you? She should get her facts right biko.

So, then there would be no point seeing a doctor if I can also Google my symptoms and get the medication I want. Seems you don't get this googling of a thing. If they were well knowledgeable, then they won't have to use Google. Geez!

Until when our Govt stops worshipping certificate. Until when the system respect and recognize each profession as an entity without undue preference to some. Until when the system recognize that each profession is unique and can not be independent of others especially in the hospital settings. Then, their will be peace in the entire public service.

This is bad!

How will they expect a doctor after performing stressful surgery to still empty the waste?

Are there no domestic staff around? Well, it's possible that they don't have enough domestic staff for them to attach to all theatre.

Well, Doctors attitude in the hospital can make aggrieved Nurse misbehave sha. I work in a teaching hospital too as Engineer and I know how doctors behave, thinking their profession is superior to every other professions around.

For the entire ARD to strike they know what happened is bad. Now back to the life long nurse doctor discord. Whether this nurse like it or not, hierarchy exists in medicine. With the doctor even if that doctor has only spent one day in the profession as head. It is like the military. This hierarchy exists because there needs to be a clear line of command obedience to save lives. Now to the question of who cleans up after a surgery. Theatre nurses are called scrub nurse for a reason. They are in charge of basic set up before the surgery, assisting in handing instruments and cleaning afterwards. Simple and plain. The matron needs to be sanctioned and anywhere in the world the same will follow. And charges can even be pressed against her for imprisonment in sane environments.

Especially towards nurses.
All these ego driven doctors should just do mistake and leave Naija to u.k.
Woh! Y'all will have withdrawal syndrome ontop ego, because y'all can't pull all those God forsaken and annoying stunts you pull in Naija. You will push your trolley yourself, even discard everything yourself.

For a nurse to do that to a doctor means she's sleeping with the CMD or a high ranking medical director in the hospital and the doctor has zero authority over her.

This I have seen.
A doctor is not meant to have authority over a Nurse. They are colleagues, not boss and employee. And a Doctor is meant to clean up after him or herself after a procedure, not to wait for a Nurse to that for him. Cleaning up after a procedure is not a Nurses procedure. Hollywood movies have made the public believe that Nurses are surbodinates to doctors. This isn't so

Brother, medical practice all over the world has advanced past all this thinking everything from your head we do in Nigeria because we wanna show we know everything even when we are ages behind, it is simply ego. Medical practice is now tech driven to keep you abreast with the latest care option that keeps changing every minute.

It is only in Nigeria where many of the patients you attend to are ignorant of even the slightest information about their ailments that you do that thinking everything from your head thing. Even in Nigerian hospitals, there are reference guides, treatment protocols and all that, most of which are either pasted on the wall or placed on the health workers desk, what do you think all that is for? If not to guide the health worker do his or her job better. In civilised countries, all that has been automated so that you can just click a button and get the information required. It is better you give your patient better care making reference than think everything from your head because of ego and get it wrong.

Which memo? Is it Doctor that clean the ward?

I take it that you are a doctor?
I'm a nurse, practicing in UK. The rule is universal from WHO. The person who generates waste is responsible for disposing it.

If a doctor comes to my ward to pass a central, and generates waste, it is his duty to discard the waste. If we have blood or body fluid spill on the floor, we have a cleaner for that. But it is his job to discard all wastes, including used instruments, sharps, used swabs etc. It is also his job to return unused materials.

If I return to find waste not disposed, it is my job to fill in an incident report, and name him. He will definitely be summoned by infection control.
Locking up and verbally abusing the doctor is wrong, and probably criminal. Refusing to dispose waste you generated is equally an offense. I hope the hospital management can thrash this issue amicably

I think many people don't know the way things run in a normal hospital,a nurse is not suppose to dispose a sharp, infectious material used for an invasive procedure for a doctor. Even by WHO standard and international practice ,a nurse or doctor is meant to discard those things themselves . Also, maids are not responsible for that either ,they can clean up the environment but never the used sharps . Moreso, did you ever consider what would have made the nurse lock the doctor up,this is not Nollywood where nurses are portrayed as quacks or Doctor's maid, there are different job description for each profession.
And for some to think ,it is because she sleeps with a CMD before she can speak up,it's totally wrong ,and issues like this have been happening.

The hierarchy that exists in Medicine should be amongst doctors. Doctors are not bosses to Nurses. It's better you get that right now. They are colleagues. What a doctor can do , a nurse may not be able to do, and what a Nurse can do, a doctor cannot do. A Nurse cannot spend five years in the university plus one year internship and expect her to be an errand girl for one doctor. If a procedure is not a Nurses procedure, it is not part of one's duty. There are clear cut duties for every medical professional, and cleaning up after doctors is not a part of Nurses procedure.
