Sorry your hope was dashed. You were disappointed because you expected much from them. First, you need to learn to conduct independent research on things that interest you. Take responsibility for your success or otherwise, and you won't be too disappointed or expectant in life. You probably used internet to reach out to them and also type this. All of those time could be have been directed into researching authentic inform on migrating to the country of your choice. Even Nairaland here can be of help. There are a handful of threads addressing relocations. Second, I am worried about the set of people you have in your circle. They are either beaten or scared of others' successes. However, you shouldn't generalise based on your few personal experiences. Third, in defense of those people, most Africans that were helped to relocate abroad previously have turned around to become a burden or bad blood to their helpers. You know most of our barely keep long lasting relationships. They think relationships are simply about give or take. Many see life, career, living well, relocating as competition or they're better off than others. In my almost three months in the UK, I've heard stories of people that were helped in who afterwards turn back to become wahala for their benefactor. Despite those stories and understanding that it's a sad reality of our world, I haven't decided nor stop to share migration advise or resources to people. The Nigerian/African community in the UK isn't as vibrant or dominant as the India's, largely, because most Africans avoid themselves here due to wahala and competition, and do not help themselves move or settle in. It's the reverse for Indians and Asians, who are everywhere. I hope you're not embittered at your friends and encourage you to do your research yourself. All the best. krissconnect: 6 Likes |

casualobserver:I wish I could like your post more than once or make everyone listen to/read this but sadly they will never understand until they come here and see the life for themselves. I personally made the decision that I won't live all my life in this UK, with tier2 visa I hope we get a British passport sooner than later, once I get that with my kids, we're homebound. The passport is just so we can travel as we like cos of the somewhat volatile nature of Nigeria otherwise, NO PLACE LIKE HOME. 4 Likes |

There are 2 sides to this. Some don't want you to come, that's the truth. Not because they care for you and do not want you to come and suffer. They are just plain wicked. The "keep looking up to me as the abroad guy" kind of mentality. In a way I feel you aren't talking to the right set of people. See them as just acquaintances. Good friends want the best for their friends. And they are sincere about it. I have a friend in Sweden, guy is on my neck to come, I am even the one telling him to calm down till I am done with my project in Nigeria, it's a massive project. At least I would know I have something to fall back on and I wont be under pressure to be sending money for any project pretty soon. The other one in UK, a female has been encouraging me to come. Gave me the few tips she can. Another angle: Now to the cruise of the matter, it is not all rosy abroad. Know this and know peace. If you must travel, please don't go with loan on your neck oh, else you will collapse under the pressure of repayment. This my UK friend, just told me yesterday that she was kind of depressed . I asked her why, she said her dad requested for a shoe. And after doing her calculations based on the monthly household expenses, she would have just £10 (N7800) left. Hence buying that shoe is out of the play book for now. Imagine just shoe ooh. What if there is an emergency that requires huge sum to resolve. This is someone living in UK ooh, when me in Nigeria is saving 400k monthly. So before leaving this country, think it through well. Some of us do not plan to japa. It might happen though, but we do not see it as a priority. If I must japa,I will just go for flexing. I would have raised enough cash to keep me afloat for at least 2 years while my visa is valid. I won't step out with the do or die mentality. Truth is, I know I have this Grace, I am never idle for a month. So I know I will succeed anywhere I go. Still,I am taking it easy on the japa thingy. Money dey this kontiri. Biko, this life no hard,na we dey make am hard for ourselves. -----------_-----------_-------------_------------_------------ Jesus is Lord. Accept Him today and know peace. 13 Likes |

You say they pay bills. Let me ask you. Don't we pays bills here in Nigeria with our meagre salary that is not enough to take home? Or do we pay bills with our saliva? You say they pay taxes. Don't we Civil Servants and even some workers in private institutions also pay taxes? The people who shout taxes...taxes abroad are people who when they were in Nigeria were probably into business and have never known or experienced what paying taxes look like. So going abroad and working for the first time while living in a system that operates give unto Caesar's what's Caesar's, taxation has become a foreign subject they are forced to live with and it has become a big problem to them. If u know how much Civil servants in Nigeria pay as taxes, u won't complain. You say they pay rent bla bla bla...Don't we also pay rent, pay for electricity, buy gas for cooking, buy gas for car, buy gas for generator, pay for water, (yes...we pay for water in Nigeria too Incase u don't know) pay for waste disposal (PSP), pay for security, pay for food, pay for Cable subscription (Nothing shows on normal TV again Incase u don't know), Pay for Phone Airtime, Pay For Internet Subscription all with our meagre salaries coupled with the harsh economic state of Nigeria Some people are talking minimum wage yet some people monthly salary are far below the minimum wage. In Nigeria where some graduates are collecting just N30K per month as salary. No wonder Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro, Abeokuta is filled up with lots of young people as patients. Abeg, make everybody for abroad shift pack well jare. 11 Likes 2 Shares |
